- Tons of innocent Discord users are getting banned for no reason at all. What gives?
Well believe or snot, Discord's 100% existing Trust and Safety team are at it again with their abysmal support. Randomly banning you for a message you sent probably months ago. But if you're a goodie two shoes, this shouldn't happen. BOOM CONTEXT BABY. Discord's T&S team are the best at avoiding any context and banning people for something as simple as saying 12. As long as the person reporting you is creative enough to twist your words into something that could be passed off as something breaking the TOS, you could be in trouble.
So listen up soldiers as I tell you what to do and then also listen while I proceed to explain T&S and bash on it.

SO uhh since people missed it, I'll put it here. Getting someone to say 12 on discord wont get them banned. However sleuthing through messages and using them out of context can and has gotten people banned. Make a joke that you are -7? Banned. Maybe a poor use of an fictional example to ease you into the topic, my bad.

Also apparently Discord support is outsourced, TnS is in-house. Still pathetic that people are being left out to dry (and yes, some people do deserved to be banned and are trying to say they are being ignored by TnS)
Amazon is also a mixed support system. Not fully outsourced, some in house Amazon support employees and some outsourced employees.

I have people with nude photos of their dicks as their profile and I've reported them multiple times and their accounts were never deleted here is an example copy this developer ID and look at his profile 459427292372926465 this guy has been reported multiple times over the last 6 months
kind of wondering, what stops people from using discord in chrome or any other device and use inspect element? Just screenshot that considering that they don't monitor your messages at all.
So Discord won't ban people that blatantly has "I am 12 years old" on their bios, but they'll ban people for this. Great platform, lovin' it.

This has been a thing since 2020, i've been doing it since way back then just to troll my friends, but in this YT video hes lying about not being able to appeal, you still can appeal without any problem.

I still stand by the fact that discord ban appeals are HORRIBLE. I got banned 2 years ago for "participating in a raid" while unknowingly joining a server in the same time period other people were "raiding" it. Literally had no involvement, but they didn't care and wouldn't even let me speak to a real person. I've never heard of discord appealing a perma-ban.
One time a gay guy got banned because homophobes raided a server he was in. And the actual homophobes got off with a warning about being in the server.
I was also banned just for being in a server for WatchRedditDie, along with everyone else in it.

Having to send a photo and ID is a terrible idea with how many people are old enough for Discord yet under the age of 18, like that's literally just asking minors to send pictures of themselves to this huge company that probably won't even do anything even with that.

the funniest part is that the last ban came from me reporting a server that hosted CP. when i did so, discord literally just sent a warning to the server owner, saying they have to stop letting children post naked pictures of themselves.
when i saw that did nothing, i thought about exposing them, and the person i was talking to about it reported me. which got me banned. i got banned for trying to expose a server owner condoning CP.
the worst thing is when they ask you for message IDs that are inside your DMs from the disabled account. wtf are you supposed to do???

I got banned today by discord for “being underage”, right after this video came out. Last time I remember saying anything related to “underage” is me saying I was 3 years old about 2 years ago
I have had an open ticket to Discord support for three months, and another ticket that’s been open for 19 days as of writing. I have received no response whatsoever. These tickets aren’t reporting minor issues either, these are reports of serious issues involving people using their platform for illicit activity and the potential harm of the people around them; Discords neglect here is abhorrent.

This feels like something that could have been something discord genuinely needs to combat the predators, but it’s such a poor way of handling it that it’s just going to be a problem.
As someone who has literally gone through this, just happened a couple days ago I admit; it sucks. But the whole stages of grief thing was spot on. I just accepted at the end and made a new account, because honestly I didn't care that much cause I had so much servers and random stuff all in it so starting fresh isn't that bad. I literally had to go on TWITTER to get a response out of them because at that point I swear they just ignore you lol, Discord had ZERO respect for their members and they show that greatly in support.

This is such a Discord Trust and Safety moment. Banning people who are literally innocent for made up reasons but then all those scammers and other people actually doing malicious stuff never get touched in any way.
About more than a year ago some people i know were joking about being like 1 year old and guess what? They got banned.
I accidentally disabled someone else's account while trying to report another. I don't know how but the mf checking the was so dense he banned the SIXTEEN year old account instead of the ELEVEN YEAR OLD who had snuck into the server.

Edit just to add: My first account was finally deleted a whopping *52 days* after it was disabled.
I feel so validated to see this kind of video. My experience was pretty traumatizing. They didn't *just* ghost me. This is impossible to make a TL;DR so I'm not gonna bother.
I burned through 50+ accounts over 3 months trying to stay on the platform because they banned my account without sending an email, and kept doing it. Sometimes in bursts over an hour, disabled within seconds to minutes. It got absurd seeing 4 accounts on the switcher with "Please login again". I tried every opsec measure in the book. Different identities, VPNs, valid mobile phone numbers (I took on two phone bills. My main phone number went to another carrier and I stuck with Verizon because they're the only US carrier that permits free unlimited phone number changes), a few normal residential IPs by forcing my ISP's DHCP since resetting my router wasn't enough, different devices, virtual machines, even a VM hosted on a VPS and using remote desktop. I got technical and started studying and hardening any potential fingerprint sources on my devices so they can't track me.
I suffer from depression severe enough that "go touch grass" is a depressing phrase. So, my social life is online, and almost exclusively on Discord as that is the only platform anyone involved in anything I care about is using. I am an aspiring software engineer and I work on a game engine, and ran a Discord for it, which is now ~400 members strong. I can't manage it anymore of course, and I'm basically cut off from half of my own community.
But there's more background context. That account before I went through 50 of them was actually my 4th. I was an early supporter and an active Nitro subscriber. My original account was made on October 1st 2015 and it was disabled on Jan 13 2022 for "Your account posted content that sexualized individuals under the age of 18..." or w/e. I never did this and I chalked it up to a rogue server, looking over my data package and seeing if I was unknowingly in anything suspicious. A few friends were disabled around the same time as me. One got his account back after making enough noise on Twitter, but it helped he was a moderator of a partnered server.
I made another account which was disabled a month later without any email sent. Third account, I tried to ask for an ownership transfer of that Discord I was operating and they disabled it the next morning leaving the reason in the email blank. I thought the coast was clear because by that point all of my prior accounts were deleted. The server was eventually transferred to the project lead at least.
Then 6 months later is when they started actively trying to keep me off the platform and never gave any reason for it, and just when I was thinking of moving on and subscribing to Nitro again. **My appeal tickets were manually marked solved by a human before anyone or anything (even Clyde) could respond. Every single one of them.**
I tried different combinations of the above opsec measures because my identity has a reputation in my community and it's important, which is funny because this is the foundation for one of the arguments against the username change. I was seeing how much of it I had to give up. I had to give up more than all of it, because somehow they ended up being able to find out when I used all measures at once. Then suddenly they just stopped and left me alone. It's been 6 months and I'm still paranoid when tabbing back in to see the fucking account switcher showing I'm suddenly logged out.
I lost friends, (semi-)professional contacts and opportunities, people distanced themselves from me because they think certainly I must have fucking done something serious for Discord to go so hard on me. The server I was hanging out in with most of my friends and acquaintances at the time had to ban me because Discord warned the server for "accommodating a ban evading user".
As you can imagine the entire experience was traumatizing. Panic attacks for days and other horrible shit. I would personally take joy in seeing this platform burn to the ground, and honestly I wish other things I can't say without running afoul of UA-cam Community Guidelines. I'm so happy you posted this and I'm so relieved to see other people sharing their stories too, knowing I'm not alone.

This is the only instance where I actually felt real ''Discord'' because I myself have been an admin of some community enabled servers in the past that weren't necessarily super strict with rules and whatnot, they still have rules still but they were never clearly defined or too strictly moderated, so the example in the video is sort of scaring me now and I literally have to warn everyone about it in the case that the members or staff some of them might risk getting banned (even if they aren't breaking any of the rules or ToS/Guidelines, since what I got from the video is that it can also be indirectly caused by other users reporting/other users message and activity and the server not being able to enforce those rules)

1 or 2 years ago me and my friends were constantly reporting a guy we know who harrasess/harrased really underaged girls. We had proof from everywhere, we even sent it to them, but instead of taking action and start investigating they just ignored us. They never answered, or never answered any usefull. Idk what's the guy is doing now, but it's really frustrating that he got away with it.

I had a horrible experience with discord. One time my account was disabled for some security reasons as they thought I violated TOS, and it took me around 5 months to get my account back... Although for the people scared of losing their account, im not sure if it was because my account was pretty old or had nitro, my account info wasn't deleted. They really need to fix their support. Tbh i feel like this video would promote people banning others but at the same time I hope this video reaches to discord and fixes their stupid system
My account was from 2016 and they didn't care, and deleted my account for being in a server that unknowingly raided other servers. It's too late to get it back now.

I filed a age update request the moment after I mailed them my documents which proves I'm 16 I had a server with 10k members I had 1 year nitro on it like i spent actual money on it if I won't get my acc back in a month or so I'm leaving discord forever this platform sucks and I ain't spending even a single penny on discord from now on I'll make a video abt this tommorow hopefully a discord staff will see this.
an easier way to get someone banned is to somehow get them on one of your servers and do something against tos like for example a channel called "racist memes" and then give them admin and transfer the server to an alt and report the server. The server gets deleted and all admins on it get banned and there is no support to appeal

This reminds me of an experience i have with their support team.
I reported a server owner because they were underage and sharing explicit images of themselves. A bit after i reported it i left the server. Its been almost 3 years since that happened, still no response.
To be clear i sent them tons of screenshots of the conversations about the situation but they didnt even respond.
For context the server was masked as an LGBT support type of server but was actually a match making platform with people sending nude pics of themselves on the daily.
Aka the only way to avoid being banned, discord thinks "guilty by association is valid" so you're forced to report the server and leave instantly afterwards or else you get banned on the spot, aka just let it happen and dont bother speaking up, cause their "trust and safety team sucks is not safety oriented at all.
I was ghosted by trust and safety for like 6 months about a group of people constantly raiding my server with child porn. Discord said if there is any issue they will take necessary action, I watched and watched, they did nothing to the accounts and some continue to this day. I paused all invites on my server once and for all to stop it.

This happened to me. Got my account disabled for being "under the age of 13." Long story short, I got ghosted by support for 16 days before they decided to reply and enable my account. I wish they wouldn't just randomly ban for no reason.
Let the servers ban, or the people block, and discord shouldn’t ban until they have investigated the report.

this literally happened to me about 5 years ago, i was still in highschool and my account got completely banned because some random dude didn't like a game which i had a community server for, it took me 3 months to make a new account since i was optimistic about getting the account reinstated but it never happened and it took an aditional year to get ownership of the discord back.
this has always been a thing and i hate discord for it, as soon as another platform shows up where i can easily share screen and have group chats as easily as discord i'm switching to it in a heartbeat
I got hacked a while ago and I obviously sent a ticket to discord support, they had the ticket opened but ignored me. It took them 3 WHOLE MONTHS to respond the tickets and to say: "your account is not available at the moment" because the hacker got termed with my account. ✨ Discord ✨

I got crossfire banned 5 years ago for "threatening to share a user's info". Basically what happened was a raid in a friend's server and they got revenge doxxed; I wasn't even on discord at that time so I only learnt about what happened on the server hours later, reports for the doxxers were sent, buuut instead of only the guys getting banned, ANYONE that just happened to be in the server (including me) got nuked by Discord. They didn't restore my account even though I had proof I did nothing, so that was an unnecessary L for my 2016 account, gotta love it
Suggestion:
Don't make it so the user only has 14 days to get their account back at all. Make it "You have 14 days to submit a ticket."
Puts some pressure off the user and staff.
Honestly, a really good suggestion. Those who don't care will just automatically get deleted after 2 weeks, and the ones who want to appeal get to (hopefully) be better investigated. And because there isn't a time sensitive pressure, the support team won't be spammed (as much) by people getting frustrated that discord is letting their personal account get deleted because they're too lazy to read the appeal within those 2 weeks. Of course there'll probably still be cases where discord will take a full month to reply to you, and well, idk if those workers who just check off a ticket without looking at it once would change.. But at least you'd have less people angry with you for unfair bans/deletions, and instead just people mildly annoyed with your time incompetence. Plus, what better motivation is there than having discord breathe up your neck because "if the tickets continues to be unsolved, there'll be too many usernames that become unavailable". Like imagine someone grabs a rare username, then gets reported, and suddenly no one can ever get it again because support won't solve the case? Hilarious
The thing is Discord's infrastructure has no legal hold capability. Deletions are traceless.

They should make it so that when you report someone they look at previous versions of that message including the one it is in response to to see if they are actually underage. If they don’t do that maybe send an email asking to prove if they are not underage.

i reported someone for posting illegal adult links and it took them 15 tickets and 9 months to ban them. for actual illegal content.
It's also unfair because a lot of times it will get the whole server banned instead of just that person, including you and everyone else in it. They say not to join servers that might get banned, but also that you have to in order to report them?

There were server-own rules that made it clear that such type of messages lead to a permanent exclusion.

Easiest way to deal with discord support is to PERSONALLY email a staff members personal email. And always have some stuff screenshotted or saved. Ive been warned ONCE just for being in a server i used for emotes and spoke there maybe twice. I saved that shit instantly. I have proof ive been on this platform since 2015. Why would i risk anything.

Can you tell me a few of the staff members email's I can message them at? My account was disabled a week ago for something I didn't do(Bs about broken TOS regarding illegal activity)

I also encountered such account disabling, but at the same time I do not recall writing something like that about age. It was an unpleasant birthday surprise, when i turned 22... Well, the support response... I had to wait 9 days. It was quite unpleasant. Therefore, it is necessary to solve this problem with false bans somehow.
Because losing an account because of such an error is very painful and unpleasant.
some insight for “why is support so bad” from someone containing direct experiencing with outsourcing: minimal training and obsolete info/assistance from discord staff. imagine a customer asks you a question so you refer to your resources but no luck. you ask your boss and they don’t know either. it’d be nice to keep asking up, but the hierarchy of communication stops when it comes to reaching out to the client (aka discord)

I got ignored for nearly a f**king MONTH straight at 24 days of being ignored. Not only that but my ticket was reporting someone who sent me a sped-up, uncensored and perfectly replayed gif of Ronnie Mcnutt's... Video... and a clip of the two ukrainian soldiers being shot in that ditch/foxhole
I submitted my ticket on April 15th. They got back to me on May 9th... After this user that sent me those gifs had used an auto-deletion script to fully delete every message she had sent me over the past year. Pathetic.

This is why you take receipts and send in screenshots + Message links to prove that the message existed, a;lso, I feel like once a message is deleted, Discord still has that data, at least for a little while, and SHOULD be able to confirm it. Hindsight tho.
@@Kyosumari nope. even if you have a screenshot and a message link, if the message it's self is deleted, it is not stored and thus discord does nothing. i have tried this before to get a pedophile TEACHER banned, screenshots and message links, but because he deleted all his dms discord didn't do anything.

When I was 14 I got banned like that at like 1 am, and had to send a selfie while holding an ID of some sort next to my wimpy ass face. Truly an amazing experience, at least I got unbanned tho

I had a stalker and impersonator on discord a few years ago, and Discord acted very fast on banning his account. My experience was positive, but that's a shame that it seems that the support isn't as great as it once was.
As a person who jokingly said that I was 7, I got banned for it and I can confirm this bs.
that is kindof on you though, do not joke about being underage because others cant magically know your'e joking, but yeah it was discord support's fault as well for banning (assuming you went through the appeal process)

I've been ignored by discord support for over four years on an issue I am having with their platform. They even went as far as DELETING my support portal account because I would constantly re-open the ticket I had submitted since they would close it with no response.

I would like an alternative method, and I know I'm NOT the only one with this problem because there are MANY support issues on their site and the feedback portal both asking for such a thing. i have a similar problem as well. i had another account before the one i have now that was linked to my phone number. but that account got deleted, and it's permanently gotten rid of the ability to use my phone on my new account. so i had to use someone else's phone number to verify because my actual phone won't work. i believe i opened a ticket at some point but i still couldn't link my phone.
As someone who has worked at amazon for years. The CS is not 100% outsourced. They do sometimes use 3rd party staffing to initially hire, but I would say the majority end up being full time blue badge (aka permanent) staff. This goes for both in the US and abroad.
The one time I contacted Discord support for an account related manner, it took 3 months, yes.. 3 MONTHS. Out of all the times I've contacted support at any company, I've never seen a response time this long, especially for compromised or banned accounts, usually the worst is a few days. Discord is really starting to lose a lot of it's integrity now, what a shame.
This whole trust and safety stuff is a huge portion of the reason I'm hoping every day for a IM platform to pop out of nowhere and overthrow Discord. I don't know why but every single IM platform always starts off fantastic then goes so downhill that the users start begging for a alternative.

And Discord is not heading there quite yet (we all are definitely still in the vocal minority) but they are getting close to heading there.
I mean Snapchats support is truly laughable and does even less than Discords somehow. I think Snapchat is just in that weird space because everyone that uses Snapchat has kinda just accepted that it's a completely unprotected app where you cant report people. So everyone just kinda knows that you should only add people you know and trust, you turn off the option of random people being able to get you recommended or send you messages, and you keep to yourself. But it works out because you're able to have an "enjoyable experience" by just keeping to yourself.
Discord just doesn't really work the same? Like it feels extremely bland if you keep to yourself, you're almost constantly reminded of what you're missing out on, and you're not allowed to just "watch" different servers without risk. So when things like support, that is supposed to help you when these risks eventually happen, slowly decline, you feel it even harder. Discord had the benefit at least that if you were wrongfully banned or whatnot, it wasnt too hard getting the same name and re-unite with friends, but uhhhhh.. yea. More complicated future usernames + less support + less server security + more unjustified auto-bans + barely acknowledging your users anymore definitely changes the direction downwards
Guilded is pretty good without any shitty subscriptions it just needs more people on it tbh

I remember when I needed to change my 2FA cause I traded my phone in without transferring my 2FA codes and the email reset wasn’t working, they made me wait like 2-3 weeks just to tell me “we can’t do anything, so better make a new account”. I literally told them the issue as clearly as possible. Then like a week or two later it just fixed itself.

Though they outsource support, they certainly aren't underpaying their employees. The salaries listed on their careers page roles are, very big let's say. Plus with a load of benefits, including extra payouts

This happened to me and the entire staff team on a server I moderate like 2 years ago lmao. We had to make alts and hide our mains until the false reporting stopped. Only half of us were able to get out accounts back but I ended up just using my alt as my main after using my alt account for 2-3 months at that point before the disabling stopped on our server
It’s a huge problem how unresponsive they are when you HAVE to get a response back within a month or your account is permanently deleted. Like maybe just don’t DELETE people’s account after one month when you have a shitty support team.

This might sound crazy, but I have an idea for Discord's moderation system: When an employee on the team opens a reported message, there should be a BIG RED FLAG on any message that has been edited. It should show them all previous versions of the message, as well as WHEN they were modified. All message timestamps should be super obvious and easy to read.
Perhaps they could even have a simulated message replay where it shows the messages show up in a log in the order they were posted, with all edited versions appearing at the timestamp they were modified.

I once was falsely accused of being underage on another social media site. They asked for a photo of me holding up a piece of paper, that old schtik, and I never got a response. Not everyone looks their age.

I actually said how many eggs are in a dozen in one of my servers and someone replied with the number, then their account actually got disabled and now they are trying to dox me and I am in a lot of drama right now because of it 💀
the worst part of all of this is that the bad actors don't have attachments to their accounts. they just create more.
This is what happened to me exactly a month ago but I was able to get my account back thankfully. God that was an absolutely traumatic experience, half a decade of my online existence could’ve possibly been wiped within 2 weeks..

How long did it take for them to respond? I'm going through this process right now. I sent them my ID and everything just currently waiting for a response. It's only been like 2 days but all these horror stories about support has me really worried I wont be able to get my account back.

This happened to me back in February. I sarcastically said I was 10 (I'm 20) and my account got suspended a week later. Based on some of the stuff said in this video, I guess I was lucky to get my account reinstated within 48 hours. Still took longer than it should have.
What's funny is Discord still let me use the alt account system, so I just switched to my secondary account like nothing ever happened

I've had my own fair share of troubles with discord - I used a school email to sign up, and then my school's IT system changed and discord's automated emails no longer worked with my school account (for some reason - still not sure why).
I've since graduated, and even though I have both a phone number linked and 2FA enabled I still can't use those for verification for changing my email - discord just says to "please contact your email provider to regain access" to your old account.
the reason they ask for message links is so they can get the message JSON. yes, you can get the JSON of an about me, but its harder to get if you dont know what you're doing (this is exactly the case with the Trust and Safety team)

What I don't get is how it's possible to get someone banned for out of context quotes. When reporting you add the message link so it would be possible for them to see the actual messages.
If it was really as easy as sending a screenshot in for a ban, then you could simply use html editing on chrome to make fake messages from a person look very real.

7:12 Just so you know, it's saying that the data associated with your account after being *deleted* will be removed after 14 days. You can have a disabled account for longer than that ( I'm 90% sure ). I remember my account being disabled, making a ticket, and getting my account back in around a month or so.

I don't get their idea of requiring an ID for proof of identity. Not only is it a compromise of your privacy and security, but it also does not work for users who do not have a federal ID unless school IDs work instead. But even then, having your face and name associated to your discord account, especially if youre 13-18 should be illegal to demand of.

A little additional note; Discord *still ignores your ticket* (appeal or report) even if you provide them with message link or evidences and no matter how strong they are. You will end up in an automated decline message at any time

i think its hilarious how in modern society we do not have a proper support regarding your issues on *any* platform. discord doesnt care who you are, microsoft support just doesnt care about you and your account being hacked at all because it happens like a gazillion times a day, hypixel (the biggest minecraft server) cant even *read* ban appeals for their server, they just auto deny them and so on. this is an absolutely massive issue *everywhere* and i feel like there has to be something we can do about this.

Yikes, massive oversight that could be easily fixed. Cache the data/text from the original message, check if message was edited and at what time, cross reference that with both the person responding and the message before editing and you can clearly tell that they don't deserve a ban. Simple.
You would think this is a thing. I tried to report something to discord a little while ago and they asked me for message IDs and channel / server IDs when I had obviously left the server it was happening in, even though I had already reported it by right clicking
Discord requiring photo id reminded me that when google+ was a thing, I couldn't report an account that was using a picture of me taken from my mothers facebook because it required photo id. I was in like 5th or 6th grade at the time so I just had to deal with it. It was so creepy. Im glad google+ is gone.

Like they did ban the user who hacked me, responded the day of, and all that. But I had to gather tons of message links, and they couldn't recover any deleted servers and shit.

Note: Theres this thing where if u do email replies for Discord Support it'll send you an email saying "we currently aren't supporting email responses! Please use our support portal" or smth like that. Not sure if it's true or not but yeh that's a thing.
Me and 3 of my friends got our main Discord accounts all banned simultaneously when we were in a call together, because we were apart of an unmoderated Discord server, which we used to get memes from.
Apparently people had spammed CP or something alike in there and every single person in the server got banned, it just all happened without anyone knowing, cause we never check those random servers.
It was a server we just had in a disposable folder that we randomly went into every like other month or so to check memes, and the ban was unappealable, they didn't even bother to check our message logs to see that we did nothing wrong.
Funny thing is my account was from early 2016, the alt I have to use as my main is from 2019, and I don't pay for nitro, so people would have a very easy time stealing my username if they so wanted to.
So I guess just don't be a part of random servers you don't check often which seem sort of chaotic.
As someone who's felt the wrath of scummy or at least somewhat questionable mods with TOO much power on TOO many servers, I sincerely hope the creators of Discord create an appeal page where we can report mods and owners and ask to be reinstated on their servers.
over the years I've had 2 main discord accounts disabled due to sending messages where i was clearly joking about this topic and was reported; Discord support was very unhelpful and the second time this happened, they didn't even reply to my actual appeal in the 30 days leading up to the account's deletion. very frustrating 😭
