Great movie. 3 beautiful women here, Maureen O'Hara, Yvonne De Carlo and a young Stephanie Powers. You should see pictures of Yvonne De Carlo in the 1940's when she was young - absolutely beautiful. A good western. I'd highly recommend "Big Jake" - with O'Hara and Patrick Wayne again, and add in Richard Boone as an excellent bad guy.
This was a year before Yvonne took the role of Lily Munster. You can see what a beautiful woman she was without her shroud and ghoul makeup. She and Maureen were both in their forties when they did this film and are both stunning and sexy.
So far you haven't seen a non Cowboy John movie. I'll recommend Branagan, Sands of Iwo Jima, The Sea Chase, Trouble Along the Way, They Were Expendable, Hatri,

She was named the Most Beautiful Woman in a contest in the 50's, and she maintained her beauty for many years to come. And she even kept her beauty with green make-up in her TV role as Lily Munster on the show "The Munsters", in the mid-60's. "McLintock" was a favorite on TV during the 60's and 70's, so happy you gave it a "Best Movie Ever" rating.
Wayne's romantic comedies are often overlooked. This one and North to Alaska have always been two of my favorites. The Quiet Man is deserving of a watch as well.
She did THE QUIET MAN already. I suggested DONOVAN'S REEF (1963) - Patrick has a bit part in that, and it has great scenery being shot on Kauai. It's a South Seas Christmas rom/com. And let's not forget HATARI! (1962) - his other movie with an exclamation mark in the title - shot on location in the old Tanganyika, East Africa, and he did most all his own stunts with those wild animals.

Brooks' initial idea was that Sheriff Bart would be teamed up with a real cowboy icon. The story goes that John Wayne loved the script and even said he'd be first in line to see it, but felt it wouldn't be right for his image. Gene Wilder got the part after campaigning for it, and of course he changed the dynamic somewhat. Wayne did make some other comedies. The one that comes to mind first is North to Alaska, with Ernie Kovacs. It's a romantic mix-up and gold mining.
Whalebone corsets were a thing back in the day, and that’s why some used to faint when shocked, or otherwise, they couldn’t breathe properly. 😮. Why it was considered the way to be, I don’t know.
The "Little man with the glasses" is Strother Martin, a first-class character actor who appeared in many films, including some other Wayne vehicles such as The Horse Soldiers. Strother always played a very different character from any other he had played, and was very good at all of them.
I believe the "nincompoop" is played by Strother Martin, the same guy who played the ornery horse trader in Wayne's True Grit 6 years later in those funny scenes he had with the girl Mattie.

I love this movie, was one of the first movies I saw. My Grandfather was a huge John Wayne fan, and took me to see this when I was 7 years old, so this movie is a special movie to my heart to remember him.

I think Rio Bravo, The Cowboys, The Searchers and The Man Who Shot Liberty Vance would be my favorite Wayne movies at this point.

Love this movie. Haven't seen anyone else react to it. John Wayne was great, and Maureen was INCREDIBLE, her personality lifted this film to a different level. Cast with many of John Wayne's regular talent pool (a lot of the supporting cast you will find in many many of his films).
Another John Wayne western comedy is 'North to Alaska' featuring the beautiful French actress Capucine. I'm sure you'll enjoy the story line and the scenery... check it out.

Hi Dawn ... I'll try to clear up one thing you were confused about earlier in the movie. The reason young Dev took a swing at McClintock after McClintock offered him the job (after repeatedly refusing to hire him earlier) was because Dev misread the job offer as "charity" and he felt belittled and insulted as a man. He wanted to EARN his living and NOT be GIVEN a "HAND-OUT." McClintock understood and respected that stance (because it was his own philosophy as well) ... which is WHY McClintock didn't get mad at Dev for throwing the punch, and instead took the time to explain that Dev would EARN his wages because he'd deliver an honest, hard day's work in return for it. He made Dev feel good about himself by saying "I hire MEN." So from there, their mutual respect and affinity for one another grew ... and I'm CERTAIN McClintock was happy with Dev as a husband for his daughter instead of the vain, pathetic milquetoast.

John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara starred in 5 movies together...... Love this movie. Haven't seen anyone else react to it. John Wayne was great, and Maureen was INCREDIBLE, her personality lifted this film to a different level. Cast with many of John Wayne's regular talent pool (a lot of the supporting cast you will find in many many of his films).
Along with 'The Quiet Man' (also with Maureen O'Hara), one of my favorite John Wayne movies.
My wife and I have probably watched this film 15 or more times over the years. Pretty much whenever it comes on TCM, we watch it.
Another John Wayne western comedy is 'North to Alaska' featuring the beautiful French actress Capucine. I'm sure you'll enjoy the story line and the scenery... check it out.

Great as usual Dawn. You should react to a great movie where an “old man” is the hero as he discovers a town’s coverup of a terrible crime. Watch the great actor Spencer Tracy in the movie “Bad Day At Black Rock.” Your buddy Lee Marvin does a great job as another “bad guy” like in the “Man Who Shot Liberty Valance.” Great movie, give it a try.😃😎👍

Im 55. Watching these JW movies reminds me of days gone by watching these with my dad. Should of spent more time doin that. Last movie I remember watching with him was Hot Tub Time Machine.... Cancer sux. Miss ya pops.😢

At 25:15 the actor playing Puma also starred with JW in Hondo where he was portrayed as a warrior and honorable man.
Most action and stunts in John Wayne's movies were choreographed by him. He was also a great horse wrangler and armorer (handling guns).
Truly an awesome movie. Hopefully more are on the way like: The Searchers, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, The Sons of Katie Elder, Fort Apache, Rio Grande, Rio Lobo, The Comancheros, Red River, and Big Jake. Of course thats just off the top of my head since its refreshing to see someone reacting to fine Westerns. Keep up the great work 😊👍
One of my, if not the, favorite Western movies. Was not really a big fan growing up, but saw this and it changed my view. Watch it any time i see it on.

I'll try to clear up one thing you were confused about earlier in the movie. The reason young Dev took a swing at McClintock after McClintock offered him the job (after repeatedly refusing to hire him earlier) was because Dev misread the job offer as "charity" and he felt belittled and insulted as a man. He wanted to EARN his living and NOT be GIVEN a "HAND-OUT." McClintock understood and respected that stance (because it was his own philosophy as well) ... which is WHY McClintock didn't get mad at Dev for throwing the punch, and instead took the time to explain that Dev would EARN his wages because he'd deliver an honest, hard day's work in return for it. He made Dev feel good about himself by saying "I hire MEN." So from there, their mutual respect and affinity for one another grew ... and I'm CERTAIN McClintock was happy with Dev as a husband for his daughter instead of the vain, pathetic milquetoast.
