This comment is for anyone who feels alone: I went on several long sobriety streaks as a subscriber of this channel in 2023. I recently relapsed and felt such immense shame, I avoided this content altogether for a while. I am now sober… again and don’t ever plan on going back. This community is amazing and the support is fantastic. You are not alone; we all stumble. Please don’t retreat into yourself when you feel like a failure (like I did). Rely on the people who build you up and lean into their support.
Thank you for that. Retreating inward is part of my shame pattern. Gotta learn to relate to a community again, even if it’s fully online. Hitting the sauna tonight to decompress and join my sweaty dude community down at the gym 😆
My 10 activities 1. Hiking with my husband and dog. 2.Doing art. 3. Watching your videos.4.biking 5. Cooking a special meal. 6. Talking with my Daughters. 7.Reading 8. Dancing. 9 going site seeing. 10 Hanging out with people who don't drink.
What helps and works for me is taking longer walks, exercising, walking the dogs, training them, playing more guitar, making more hot sauce, growing my own vegetables, learning more about what I am interested in, cooking, doing the dishes, cleaning, writing songs...little by little, find what you really wanna do and do it, and you will never get bored again...2,5 years sober, with all these activities in place, feel great and on the right track to happy and productive life...troubles will come, but will face them sober...focus on the goal, and it is to remain being clean and things should come together.peace
So, long story short, i'm from Croatia and when I traveled to the States for the first time to record an album with my band Voodoo Lizards back in 2010's, I fell in love with the hot sauces haha, so brought home a whole bag of them...And as my folks did gardening and such, i thought, well I can make better hot sauce, fresh and organic...So I did. Started growing chilies and fermenting sauces...People started asking for them...and little by little, i started to sell them...still a small business, but supply a couple of local restaurants and dedicated customers who return to my sauces, made naturally...I call my sauce Jucifer Hot Sauce, cause my name is Jura and they call me Juc...anyone can make great hot saus at home, I can share a couple of recipes for the community! Live long and prosper@@GettingSoberAgain
I was a heavy daily drinker for many many years I am 34 days sober, things are going pretty good. when I get cravings I like to take my dog for a long walk in nature, by the end of the walk I am no longer thinking about drinking
I was sober for 10 years. I moved back to my old neighborhood and was flooded with memories of "I used to drink there" basically every bar, bowling alley, park, lake, recreation area, motorcycle clubhouse, everywhere. I picked up the bottle, and it was okay until it wasn't. I was 4 days sober until my darling wife hit a deer last night, and that was my excuse to drink... again! So day one, and determined to stop. Watch videos like this, surround myself with people who don't drink, fly my drone, learn video editing, walk the dog, go for a motorcycle ride, talk to my wife (she is an amazing supportive woman) call my kids. Thanks for sharing your content.
@GettingSoberAgain fly your drone, and you see all your neighbors in their backyard smoking, vaping, drinking, that's all I use to hear, smell. Every recycling pick up day u hearing clink, clink, clink, clink, clink, of empty bottles go into the truck. I walk my pooch. Almost every house recycling can is full of empty beer, wine bottle, wrapped up empty boxes
My 10 activities that keep me sober: 1) working out 6 days a week minimum 2)healthy eating (no junk in the house) 3) journaling 4) art (painting/sketching) 5) Guitar practice 6) cycling 7)Looking at my old pictures of how sad I was when I was binge drinking 8) photography 9)watching/listening to positive podcasts/ UA-cam videos like this and 10) keeping busy with work!
@@kaylaperras7885 hi just seeing this! Honestly I listen to a mix of things Mel Robbins have some great things, IN HINDZSIGHT, Jay Shetty, Matthew Hussey, just to name a few.
My Activities To Help Stay Sober: 110 Days So Far. 1. Recite to myself the gifts Sobriety is giving me. 2. Ride and Race my bike on Zwift. 3. Document the improvement in my cycling fitness and plan workouts to help me improve. 4. Read business articles and research investment ideas. 5. Plan the Model Railroad I will build in my basement. 6. Learn new computer programs that I can use to help me plan my Model Railroad and use use at work for that matter. 7. Watch Videos that help re enforce my decision to get and remain Sober. 8. Enjoy a sweet treat. 9. Pick a small project to do around the house. Can take as little as 20 mins, Just something to re focus me. 10. Go to bed early if I simply can't shake cravings as any issues I have are in the evening.
Projects around the house works for me, I will tackle a cleaning job like washing the floors or walls, vacuuming, repairing something that's been driving me crazy (LOL) etc.
This might sound quite negative, but I've found that the most helpful thing for me has been literally just spending my time alone. Ive been sober for just over 1 month now and most times I even go out now with my friends and am sober, it costs just as much as if I were drinking. Moreover, I've found that most people don't want to be around me or even contact me given I'm no longer drinking. I've needed to cut out most people in my life and spend most of my time alone outside of work. I will likely be able to make some new friends a few years from now who are in different circles, but for the time being, cutting out the people who truly weren't good for me has been the most helpful thing.
Not negative at all. Setting personal boundaries and doing what's in YOUR best interest is absolutely adviseable! look for the video titles: "20 ways to set personal boundaries" in the playlist... My 10 activities: 1. Exercise 2. Music Production 3. Gaming (never was a big gamer and my ADD tends to prevent me from playing for more than 2 hours) 4. Journaling 5. Listening to music 6. Listening to Podcasts 7. Going to AA meetings 8. Watching ‘Sober Lifestyle’ content (like this) 9. Being more selfless and being of service to others (I.E making more effort to be a helping hand to my elderly parents) 10. Being more mindful of emotions. Big Tip that helps me: H.A.L.T - Notice and take action to prevent being too Hungry (H), Angry (A), Lonely (L) and Tired (T) - all states which push us towards a more primitive and impulsive state of mind; which is obviously very dangerous. Also mindful of whenever I have thoughts of taking a pill to curb anxiety or depression. Yes, some people need medications but, as an addict, especially in early recovery, I avoid any sort of ‘quick fix’. I want my brain to repair itself as naturally as possible.

You’re awesome! And I love the HALT insight! I just added a comment and hunger is the most consistently unpleasant emotional state in early sobriety for me. The meanest SOB I’ve ever met shows up in the mirror. I used to joke about being hangry (when I was a consistent drinker). It’s just not funny now though. It’s kinda terrifying what I start thinking about. A newly unstable brain gets chaotic REAL QUICK. High protein snacks and meals to the rescue! And yes, lots of melatonin at bed time :) Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the HALT explanation.. I've never heard that before - and I am someone who definitely get "hangry" Recently admitted that I am an alcoholic and I am getting sober for the first time. Will keep that in mind to not let my emotions overpower or control me.
Self-care is super important for me on this alcohol-free journey. I tend to "beat myself up" and be very critical of myself sometimes. Negative self-talk can be a killer! I have to catch myself and remember to be kind to myself, too, I know one popular technique to check my negative self-talk is to ask if I would talk to someone I care about (like a friend, lover, or family member) the way I am talking to myself. Most of the time I would never in a million years talk to someone else the way I talk to myself. So I have to "reset" and take a breath and start over LOL. Take care of yourself everybody, getting sober is freaking hard and we all deserve some love and self-care.
A good answer for people trying to get you to have a drink is to say ‘no, it’s started to make me ill, so I’ve knocked it off’ Would any sane person insist that you make yourself ill and have a drink? If they persist, challenge them with that ‘Why would you want me to be Ill?’ Thanks for being there for us Jae! 45 days 👍
@@GettingSoberAgainjust hanging out at home this weekend, got an old friend over for lunch on Sunday. My husband, as a consequence of me quitting, has massively cut down on his intake. As you were saying this can work both ways, we can inspire other people and get them to think about their own habits, I haven’t even suggested that he should he just decided he would. Now we are both feeling fitter and a little sleeker! Susie xx
1. Waking up thankful. 2. Writing a to-do list. 3. Shadowboxing/workout. 4. Basketball. 5. Hanging out with my GF. 6. Playing Pokemon Go. 7. Listening to horror stories. 8. Plan something cool for next month. 9. Do the things on my to-do list. 10. Make a meal in my crockpot that I'll wake up thankful for.
Dude you are killing it! I love to practice Muay Thai (I have a heavy bag on my patio) and that helps me get some of my frustrations out when I am feeling that way. And I love doing meal prep, I wish I had a crock pot, that sounds great! Stick with it man, you are killing it. Life is so much better without alcohol, please don't give up on yourself.
@@jeffreyjohnmann 🙏 Thank you. I appreciate the kind words from when I recently relapsed. I definitely need a Heavy Bag. I did Muay Thai for 3 months and I just don't have the pivoting down. Lol. The crock pot is a total game changer.
😊9 days being sober again! Very determined to keep going this time. Last year I did March to September which was 7 months. In the end triggers were work stress. Now I have retired I have no excuse. Wish me luck Jae and hope you are having a good relocation.❤
Cleaning my house, walking my dog, going to the gym. I also took Turmeric every day. I now drink ginger tea with honey, and i drink flavored sparkling water from a can.
I needed this. Here are some things i will do to enjoy sobriety again: Go for a run (even if its cold). Go for a bike ride (even if its cold). Do yoga. Learn spanish. Play chess. Crochet. Learn some more guitar. Read my book (lately, the alchemist) Journal out my thoughts. Cook a healthy meal. Call a friend i havent spoken to in a while. Ive just started again after relapsing over and over for a year now. I want to get back to those two years. And the idle hands issue is definitely a major factor in my slipping back into old patterns.
One month sober. Prayer, going to church more and frequent confession brought me this far and keep me moving forward. I really can’t see the reason to be sober without examining my soul. And it’s absolute Hell to be addicted.
Today I'm going to try to get sober again. I'm 55 and have had issues with alcohol on and off (mainly on) since I was 16. So glad I found this channel and community. You are all awesome!
You're always welcome here sober or otherwise! You will most likely have a few Sobriety detours, and a few days that you feel like you let yourself down. but the most important thing is that you don't give up and you keep marching forward! I am in the same boat, 57yrs old, started drinking as a teenager, been trying to stop drinking for over ten years now. These videos help me a lot, I get on here every morning to watch one... and I listen to them in the car too on the way to work, and on the way home. Lots of good ideas and help to be found here. Stick with it my friend, we can do this.
I'm at 5 months clean and sober , here is what works for me 1. Sober Living , I live with like minded friends / house mates that are like minded , we get tested every day. 2. I am of service , I like to cook for my housemates. 3. Attend 12 step program meetings , I get out of my head and listen to others. 4. I workout, I take classes and I bike . 5. I draw, I have strong emotions so I like to draw them out sometimes. 6. I talk to friends and family daily . 7. I pray when I have cravings, I admit that I have the cravings and admit my stress and put out that I don't want to use and drink. ❤
Craving stoppers: long walks, freewriting sessions, practicing something for the next show, the NYT Mini Crossword, stretching, planning dinner/meal-prepping, crocheting (that's how I quit smoking 22 years ago), painting my nails, any self-care-hygeine process like a bath, facial or hair treatment, meditation.
What has helped me stay sober for almost 6 months has been improved health, exercise, staying in the moment, Faith, family, picking up an old hobby again (beading), eating better, playing my violin, good supportive friends, finding alternative things to drink (mock tails), reading inspirational things, this channel and a few others for inspiration, improved thinking (memory and cognitive). Thanks Jay
Sobriety is definitely about change, beginning a new life if you will. You have to be willing to get rid of your old habits, what you did before obviously wasn't working if you've decided to quit alcohol. But you will feel much better! I'm 50 days sober now and legitimately happier than i ever was drinking.
I know what you’re saying is spot on. I’m personally terrified to get as far as you because I think I know what I’m going to realize: that I don’t actually like my comfy corporate job nor the city I live in and it’s been long enough that I don’t really know what hobbies speak to me (been getting high or drunk and listening to music with most of my free time the last 11 years). But this just ain’t a life worth living anymore (like Jae says in this video). Eeeeek….

I’m a month and three days sober today and really needed to hear this. Recently I opted to try speed dating which is hosted at a pub near me. Was thinking about just having a few drinks at the event to fit in and my friend was encouraging me to do so. Since watching this video I’ve decided not to give in and if people comment on it they can just eat a bag of dicks lol. Also I can’t thank you enough for this channel it’s really helped me out, I worked out a lot before I quit drinking but when I gave up this year I decided to do the 75 hard challenge along with it and I’m looking fitter and healthier than I ever have. Much love to everyone here and god bless you all :)
Every time you try an activity without booze and succeed you get stronger, and you teach your old boozy brain that you CAN have fun sober, you CAN do things without a beer in your hand, and you CAN have a good life without alcohol. Keep it going!
I'm always fascinated when people want to jump into new relationships so fast when it's our job to work on the most important relationship which is... The relationship that we have with ourselves 🫂
Your videos have helped me big time ... your drinking habits were very similar to mine, about 3-4 times a week while holding down a job and family. The amount of alchol ive drank over the past 10 years is more than other people's lifetimes, and then some ... I recently accepted the job of my dreams, and i immediately realized I needed to clean myself up ... heres to almost a month sober !!
They say that Luck is when preparation meets opportunity. You made your own luck, so now it's time to move onto maintaining what you've got and continuously protecting this gift!
1.) Spiritual alone time with the Lord 2.) clean diet 3.) exercises 4.) Bible studies 5.) jogging during the time I normally drank (evening) 6.) clean my house completely 7.) cook meals at home for family 8.) Bible studies/ prayers 9.) Reminding myself how my toxic ex had to leave forever and how bad it broke me down 10.) early bedtime - rinse and repeat
Every day is day 1. Every day we make a decision to take alcohol, or not.Stick to the present, decide each day if you will turn down alcohol, or not. Is a choice, every day.We can’t know the future, it’s impossible to know exactly what will happen, including with alcohol, and each day we have the freedom to turn it down. And the benefits of doing so make that A BIT easier but each day is a new day.
Day 51 today… the brain fog is horrible! My husband decided to start smoking again after about a week and a half… he never quit drinking… 😢 so on my own again…

Almost at a month i think now...dont know if i 10 things...but here is what i do Pray every day for god to help me break my drinking habit Keep sparkling mineral water in my fridge to replace beer. Focus on improving the house and gardens. Watch positive UA-cam channels Keep imagining the man i wish to be. Cooking food instead of takeaways. Talking openly about where it am at.
I'm at around 140 + days. What works for me is pretty much staying home. Not going to bars. And keeping alcohol out of my house. Not easy, but it is the beginning for me. Good luck everyone.
I decided to quit cold turkey which i did 7 month ago(best decision I've ever made in my life) I'm 42 now, o started when 18, for me giving up the drinking buddies were the ultimate support, i since replaced those friends with Jae(which I'm grateful for) thise aren't your friends, every now and then i used to go through my contact list on my phone and delete couple, also having stronger faith helped me big time, i now feel much better, making more sensible decisions, talk less, calmer for sure, more present in the house with my family of 2 children, making progress in every aspect really and not to mention the amount of money i have saved in just 7 months is unreal! Jae i just want to say you make so much sense thank you.
Inspiration: at 63 Im looking at the back half of my life. Stopped alcohol and decided I wanted to be a better me for me, so I: am going back to school for my AA degree, studying TaiChi, learning drumming, taking painting to non toxic oils, picking up my camera again, and gaming for my brain. I still crochet, sew, and want to figure out how to sell my art and creations. I have the time now. Can't really change the places where my husband wants to hang out, but I can be very creative with Mocktails. Kinda fun. Bloody Mary with all the trimmings sans Vodka, anyone?
10 would take a long time to come up with but here are my big 3: 1. Cleaning the house. There's always something to do, there's always a pile of unsorted mail, or a drawer, pantry, or closet in your own home that you know can be made tidy. You know which drawer I'm talking about. Get to it. ;) 2. Exercise/Bike riding. 3. Writing code.
Saying No, exercise, reading, talking care of my beautiful plants, drinking more water, focusing on improving myself, dancing, keeping a positive attitude, mind over matter, Feeling good and being proud of myself❤❤❤❤❤
I appreciate the support and recognition! Thank you for updating us on your three successful months, and I wish you continued success in all of yourself improvement endeavors!
❤❤❤ Hmmm...my 10 things: cleaning, cooking, taking walks, watching self improvement videos, playing board games, drawing/painting, reading the bible, watching my rabbis teachings, listening to music and I think Ill try meditation soon too
There is something to be said about making yourself feel even worse to appreciate what you're taking for granted. HOWEVER, know that you are loved, and we all care and I'm pinning your comment to show you how supportive this community is!
Depression is an insidious malady. This I know well. For me the inspiration I’m leaning on is a friend who has agreed to be my accountability partner. Stick with this, the journey is worth it. Oh yeah, I’m starting day 3 ….. Again.
i felt that way the other day and it’s only been a month sober for me. i did what you did…watched youtube channels about sobriety to inspire me. thankfully that worked
Wow 11 months! Way to go, I made it 2 months and some change and got blasted last Friday.. It’s not worth it, doesn’t feel good and won’t solve any problems. As Jae mentioned, we have to feel out the sadness so that we can grow, drinking it away only compounds our struggle and pain
Instead of drinking, go outside and walk. Find a walking stick in the woods. Then find a better one. Then go home and sand it and stain it. Then walk with it every day.
Hi Jae , No 3 was spot on for me , that’s the mistake I made last time , lol ! Seriously though, all 10 are things to be wary of . Thanks again for all the inspirational content , all the best ! My List 1 - Spend more time with my daughter 2- Creative writing 3- Walking 4 - Catching up with family 5- Cooking 6 -Learn a new language 7- Checkin out books I missed 8- teaching my daughter to swim 9 - Work out more 10- Get my coaching badges for Rugby ( I’m Scottish, lol) 🏴
Congrats on the 102 huge days!!! I'm really interested in what ELSE you are 😉 You are a multifaceted, unique and talented person. No need to stigmatize yourself with such harsh labels in this community 👊
Be kind to yourself buddy, this is a NO judgement sobriety zone! These videos are awesome, I love coming here in the morning when I am getting my coffee going and watching one of these videos. My current Go To's are 1) Video Games 2) Walking my 3 Pups more and playing Pokemon Go 3) Gym visits w/ family. Just completed my first Dry January in 6 years! I nearly failed, especially on Fridays. I haven't quit vaping or sugar yet, and I'm anxious about February, but 32 days is still 32 days clear! I wasnt even sure i could do that, but i did. Whatever happens next at least i know 1 month clear IS possible.
This is an awesome list! Maybe add journaling or blogging/online journaling about your sober journey? I find that writing down my worries, fears, victories and just blabbing about my efforts to get sober helps me so much. It gets it out of my head and down on paper and somehow that makes it all a lot easier to handle and put into some sort of perspective. Keep it going, 32 days is a huge accomplishment!
Well, I'm only 5 days in since last Friday and I think it was pre-Covid since I've had a dry weekend so a big few days coming up. Video paused for the 10 activities I feel may help: 1. Reading 2. Gardening Thanks for the great work on your channel.
Those are all great tactics for staying away from alcohol, I do several of them myself (I love writing in my sober journal- getting the anxious thoughts out of my head and down on paper makes my worries and fears seem more manageable somehow!). Pease don't give up on yourself!

1. Exercise. I bought a treadmill and walk for one hour and try to complete 4 miles every day. I also spin on my stationary bike. I ride my road bike when the weather allows. I bought a ski pass and ski several days each week. I swim laps and have lost 20lbs of beer gut. 2. Cancelled several "friends" who drink and drug and have made new sober friends. 3. Started focusing on my job again while laying the groundwork for post-retirement business ownership and travel plans. 4. Chanelling energy and attention into the people I love. 5. Journalling and creative writing. Photography and playing music. 6. Meditating about the trauma and attachments that led me to self-medicate with drugs and alcohol, and joining a sangha to practice the Dharma and to build a new community of sober and loving friends. 7. Watching videos like ... and reading really eye-opening books like "Hungry Ghosts" by Dr. Gabor Mate.
Today is 34 days for me no alcohol. I have increased anxiety and thinking about drinking so I came to the gym to run. I hope it gets better but I won’t find out if I don’t keep trying ❤️
Every inventer has to head back to the drawing board to figure out what's missing. You are in a period of reinvention! exercise is 100% part of a successful program. use that body! lower your stressing anxiety, and increase your longevity twofold!
Hi Jae…12 weeks yesterday 👍👍👍 My list of 10 1. Running 2. Cooking 3. Healthy eating, and drinking 4. Watching your videos 5. Getting plenty of sleep 6. Meditate on the reasons I’ve quit. 7. Driving without fear of being over the limit. 8. Cleaning 9. Treating myself with the money saved. 10. Visualise what I could achieve if sober long term. Another great video Jae👍
This list is awesome, I love that you are looking ahead to an alcohol-free future and all that you could accomplish! Keep it going, keep dreaming, shoot for the stars! Life is better without booze!
lol #7 When I was like 2 years sober I went to the bar to play pool and had a paranoia flashback.... I started scanning the parking lot for cops and had to remind myself that I'm sober lol
How many nights must we punch a hole in the drywall, throw all the liquor bottles over the fence into the neighbors driveway and yell “Tmorros gonna be day ONE!!!”
This sobriety journey has been one of the most humbling things I have ever experienced. For me, it has been so crucial to be open and honest with myself... and look closely at everything in my life with no filters or candy-coating at all. That is not always easy! I give so much love and admiration and credit to anyone who has the courage to try and get free from alcohol and improve their lives. If you are here and trying to get free from booze or drugs I think you are a badass! Please don't give up on yourself, I am 140+ days sober and I don't want to go back to living the way I used to. We can do this together!
The hardest part of this is my favorite hobby is making wine, beer, mead and cider and i think i have to give it up. So maybe fermenting other things will be helpful.
When i get sober (done this many times and relapse) )10 are Walking my dog Playing the xbox Bush walking Skateboarding (even tho im scared coz i havent done it in years and usually stack it 😂) Seeing my family more Keeping my house spot less Trying to dance more Learn guitar Gym Not really 10 but trying to find new hobbies
I have heard of the dreaded "pink cloud" a few days after quitting. You feel great both mentally and physically and this leads you to think you can have a few cold ones. It is a trap and do not fall for it!
1. 6:25 Walking the dogs (just wait until I get back from the walk to decide to have a beer or not). By that time, craving is gone. 2. Club soda or water first. 3. Tea/coffee before a beer. 4. Go surf. 5. Eat something, then see if I still want a beer. 6. Fake beer. 7. Anything with sugar, generally yoghurt, and see if I still crave the alcohol. 8. Watch one of these videos, then see if I still want a beer. 9. Call a sober friend, and 10. Reflect on all the past damage and ask if it’s really worth it! Bonus trick: look at my number of sober days, and realize that I don’t want to blow that streak . . .
22:45 day 3 of sobriety and 2 days before my 54th birthday. Been in bed for 3 days scared to come out as I don’t want to drink. 40 years of disaster and I hope this time I can do it. I have been blessed to find this channel. And my heartfelt gratitude to Jae.
I'm almost 4 months sober. I have 2 main problems.1. Eating sugary foods. When I drank (beer) I never wanted sugary foods. I ate fast food, chips and such. 2. Insomnia!!! I never had a problem going to sleep when I drank everyday. I know that was alcohol sleeping, but now I get maybe 1 to 2 hours of brief sleep most nights, but 1 day a week I finally get to sleep fairly well.I guess my body finally gives up and I get some😴
Things to be mindful of: 1. Use your body = daily exercise 2. Have good sleep Hygiene= no phone/tv at least 30 minutes before attempting to sleep 3. what you're eating before bed or too close to bed 4. some sleeping pills have adverse affects (example: melatonin ALWAYS wakes me up 3 hours after I fall asleep) 5. caffeine consumption= experiment with cutting cutting off caffeine 10+ hours before bed. 6 hours after consumption you still have about half of the amount in your body.
Melatonin works for most people but not for Jae as he said. Most of the time, in my experience, a small [ one gram ]. dose of melatonin works better than a larger dose.
I have actually gotten sober multiple times and I did well going to classes but now actually having a one on one with you is making me feel inspired again and so therefore I am taking that step back into healthy living away from alcohol period thank you jae
My pleasure! Maybe we will cross paths in real life someday. Where do you think it would be? I think maybe at the botanical gardens, or on a nature hike.
Ive started making kombucha, baking sourdough, crafting, painting, watching these videos, reading, meditating, journaling! 12 days sober! Thanks so much for making these fantastic videos!
On day 27 today, I'm about to get the first milestone of one month. I got this covered. Im done alcohol. I treat alcohol as my toxic ex. I must say it does come with triggers and challenges and cravings. I recently had a work stress challenge which ordinarily would have been relieved by alcohol which i resisted. I once a month have a meeting with my drinking friends for a good gesture money saving venture, so far not tempted to drink even though they do, i am an adult and can not be persisted by others to do what i don't want to. Ten things to keep me busy. 1. Clean my swimming pool. 2. Swim frequently. 3. Jogging 4. Cycling 5. Fix service inspection of my cars. 6. Handy work fix stuff and gadgets around the house 7. Cleaning housekeeping my garage. 8. Do projects repair work. 9. Spend time with wife and kids. 10. Play my soduku. 11. Register course in engineering Study and improve myself. Many more to keep me busy, away from alcohol 🤞
Yo bro, i have 60 days sober today sincenew years eve now and its been the worst 2 months fr. Lost my job and my business is failing so i went through 60 days without a job just living off my savings. But i stayed sober even though i wanted to drink and forget my problems most weekends haha. At least i have that going for me even though its been the toughest winter in years
Absolutely! Think of how much less money you'd have, if you would have wasted on alcohol, tipping the bartender, another alcohol related expenses, and bad decisions that you would have made while you're drinking. Life is going to challenge us and see if we have the grit and the determination to move up to the next level. You are proving that you have what it takes, it's just a matter of time before you break through and start living the life that you deserve! Way to stay strong, focused and determined. KEEP GOING!
Mine is journalling. I find that it helps in many ways. It pass the time, helps me process feelings and situations, helps me see any patterns of not so good behaviours and is really good to look back on once sober for a little bit to see how far I’ve come with my mental health and positivity 😊😊😊
Regarding #3... Last Friday was my day 16. I met 2 buds at a bar to celebrate their birthday. It was not a challenge whatsoever. Maybe I'm just different/lucky. I've found that being around alcohol is not really a trigger for me. Good thing, considering my roommate keeps alcohol around the house lol. My triggers are when the realities of my boredom, procrastination, anhedonia, depression and weak stress-management skills, etc., come crashing down on me. I.E., can no longer be ignored. The last time I was sober this long was 2009. And I've had many failed attempts at quitting in the past 15 years. However, not to sound overly confident, I firmly believe this time is different and I will be successful. Thanks to sobriety influencers like Jae, I learned the importance of having a solid game plan... A list of "whys" to keep in mind.... A toolbox of skills to cope with cravings/triggers. Thanks for all you do Jae! It's greatly appreciated by me and countless others. You're changing lives.
Keep it going, you are off to a good start! I have a lot of the same triggers for my cravings: boredom, feeling unwanted, putting shit off, and trying to control things I can't control... be careful hanging out in bars, I will tell you that it did not go well for me. I thought I had it all handled but old habits die hard. Stay clean buddy, keep coming here to see these videos, there are so many great ones that have helped so many of us here.
Self awareness is the key to achieving your goals. It sounds like you're ahead in that department. Now it's time to discover practical solutions for how to handle your time and stress! keep us updated on What you figure out that works for you!
Okay, sooooo... outside of the 56 months I spent deployed to war, I drank every day of the 30 years I spent in the military. My quit date is this Sunday, 4 Feb. 2024. I am towards the end of my 10 for 10, and to be honest, I don't even look forward to my daily drink, and am looking forward to the benefits of quitting. I have a brand new generation of American warriors to raise, and I want my children to know that chronic alcohol consumption doesn't have to be part of that equation.
Lord knows this country needs strength in our youth today! Thank you for your service. I thank God every day for never having seen war, or never having experienced an opposing army on our soil 🫡🫡🫡 btw I like that sober date 2-4-24! so easy to remember!!!
Hi guys, I knew I needed healthier habits, hobbies and people in my life. After a 30 year break I got back into Warhammer. It has a good supportive community and stops me getting bored wondering where the fun is at. Running clubs are great also, but you can only run an hour a day. Tabletop gaming literally goes on forever:)
@@GettingSoberAgain thanks:) a load of them. Old world, 40k, kill team, blood bowl. I played in punk and metal bands before and I really needed the brotherhood, creativity and community with out the endless pub scene. I'm still totally metal;)

I have been on a similar journey, going back & forth. Feeling like this time it is going to be for good, please keep trying buddy, life is better without alcohol.
Feeling invested in this channel. Who else is excited to see the new home/space?! 😅😂 Mahalo for the re-release of this episode in the meantime 😊 Some of my top: 1. Coffe/tea dates with friends 2. Working out 3. Going to the beach 4. Making a delicious new meal 5. Farmers markets for fresh ingredients 6. Phone calls to family & friends 7. Journaling 8. Reading 9. Practice hula 10. Practice Hawaiian & Spanish language
Oh my goodness, I miss the Poke!! I was stunned that even the 7/11 has Poke and Sushi out there lol. I'm getting anxiety over this new space. it's not as big as my house and I can't set it up the same way so I'm doing it all from scratch. HELP ME!!!! 😂
@@GettingSoberAgain In my humble opinion, the time has come for you, Jae, to give away some stuff that you are not using that has sentimental value. The sentiment can be captured in a photo of the stuff. You do not need to hold on to the touchable objects forever. You may want to hold on to all the old DJ equipment but that is not the best thing to do in my opinion. It's time to pass some unused things on to someone who does not have many things who will use them frequently and love them intensely like you once did.
@@GettingSoberAgain I just had some poke at the airport on my way to Oahu for the weekend. change is good! Try not to be too overwhelmed! @@jeffreyjohnmann Hey man I really appreciate it. I am really glad I discovered this community; it has really inspired me. I have been drinking around 30-40 drinks every night for the last 3 years and I am starting to realize this is not the life I want to live. Thank you again for the support
1. Get up at 6.30. 2. Walk the dog. 3. Drink a fair bit of water.4. Drink Soda Water and Lemon/ Lime.5. Eat soft Liquorice. 6. Cashews 7. Gym membership and force myself to attend. 8. Walk a lot. 9,. Be nice to my wife,. 10. Starting a men's support group, very helpful for me.
My 10 activities: Cycling Home workout Cooking healthy meals & trying new recipes. Mediation Watching videos here & elsewhere Listening to Podcasts Spending more time in nature.( long walks) Reading. Making new homemade electrolytes drinks. Swim, cold therapy & sauna.
Well. Here we go again. I'm told one day it will stick. Today 1 February so dry February. Yesterday I watched one of your shorts about preparation. Ok. I hear you. I've prepared before. Written No Thank You on my hand so friends know not to offer. Taken bottles of fizzy juice in my bag. Had NA wine at home just in case ... And still failed. That's ok. I'll do all those and more. Keep trying. Got pissed last night. I knew I would. Day off = yey. Day drink! FFS Is it ok to just hunker down the first 3 days. Eat sleep, heal. Then venture out. But I hear the feeling better bit. That's my pitfall. And I get to 3 days and think man! I take drink and drugs to feel this good! All I have to do to feel this good is nothing! Ha! So I drink again. Doofus. Sigh. Doofus. That's ok. Fresh start. It will stick. You can't unlearn what you're learning on the way darling. We will get there. Keep going (me to the other me)
And I notice I start thinking of wine later. I laugh and think it's not 2pm by any chance is it? Yep. 2.20pm bang on time. That's the time I give myself permission to drink later or not. But I know that. I've learnt say no. What happens in my body? My body says oh thank god for that but my mind says shaddap! Course you can. But I know that too. Rah. Come on girlie. Keep fighting. Sink or swim, what you gonna do?
Stick with it, if you don't stop trying you will get there eventually. It can take a few tries in the beginning! Please be kind to yourself, I see you calling yourself names and putting yourself down ("doofus"?) but you are doing a great thing and you deserve love and support! Negative thinking is a killer and makes this a lot harder.
I've been doing this 3 years!!! Practicing, preparing etc. But I've come to find the root.... Do I want to be a non drinker forever? Once I find the YES I will win.. Ps. I love myself. Forgiving myself too readily has kept me stuck.
For me I just keep my body and mind active but if I let anything drop I'm in trouble. This has been. 1- Going to meetings and making new connections. 2- Reading the big book and NA basic text. 3- Long distance running. 4- Working out at the gym. 5- Cycling. 6- Martial arts. 7- Meeting friends from recovery in kebab houses that don't serve alcohol. 8- Meditation. 9- Gratitude lists. 10- Working with a sponsor.

This comment is for anyone who feels alone:
I went on several long sobriety streaks as a subscriber of this channel in 2023.
Everyone is welcome sober or otherwise while you're all figuring it out 🫂
My story as well. This time I have an accountability partner.
We can do this.
@keithcampbell7820 We’ve got this, buddy! 💪🏻
Thank you for that. Retreating inward is part of my shame pattern. Gotta learn to relate to a community again, even if it’s fully online. Hitting the sauna tonight to decompress and join my sweaty dude community down at the gym 😆
Thank you for this comment. This is me as well. ❤

Tell us more about that hot sauce tho 🔥
That’s a great comment. Very inspirational as I am beginning the leg of sobriety. I almost do exactly what you do except for making hot sauce.
thank you, that is great!you got it man!@@LedByGrace
Thinking about all the stupid things I've said and done while drunk makes me want to stay sober.
I was a heavy daily drinker for many many years I am 34 days sober, things are going pretty good. when I get cravings I like to take my dog for a long walk in nature, by the end of the walk I am no longer thinking about drinking
Walk the dog > Hair of the dog

9. Pick a small project to do around the house. Can take as little as 20 mins, Just something to re focus me.
10. Go to bed early if I simply can't shake cravings as any issues I have are in the evening.

That #1 IS SO POWEFUL!!!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

2. Music Production
3. Gaming (never was a big gamer and my ADD tends to prevent me from playing for more than 2 hours)
4. Journaling
5. Listening to music
6. Listening to Podcasts
7. Going to AA meetings
8. Watching ‘Sober Lifestyle’ content (like this)
9. Being more selfless and being of service to others (I.E making more effort to be a helping hand to my elderly parents)
Great tips, great list!! What podcasts do you listen to???

You’re awesome! And I love the HALT insight! I just added a comment and hunger is the most consistently unpleasant emotional state in early sobriety for me. The meanest SOB I’ve ever met shows up in the mirror. I used to joke about being hangry (when I was a consistent drinker). It’s just not funny now though. It’s kinda terrifying what I start thinking about. A newly unstable brain gets chaotic REAL QUICK. High protein snacks and meals to the rescue! And yes, lots of melatonin at bed time :)
Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the HALT explanation.. I've never heard that before - and I am someone who definitely get "hangry"
Recently admitted that I am an alcoholic and I am getting sober for the first time.
If they persist, challenge them with that ‘Why would you want me to be Ill?’
Thanks for being there for us Jae! 45 days 👍
Thanks for this. Indeed “I am allergic to alcohol”.
Happy day 45!! what are you doing this weekend?
@@GettingSoberAgainjust hanging out at home this weekend, got an old friend over for lunch on Sunday. My husband, as a consequence of me quitting, has massively cut down on his intake.
1.) Spiritual alone time with the Lord
2.) clean diet
3.) exercises
4.) Bible studies
5.) jogging during the time I normally drank (evening)
6.) clean my house completely
7.) cook meals at home for family
8.) Bible studies/ prayers
9.) Reminding myself how my toxic ex had to leave forever and how bad it broke me down
10.) early bedtime - rinse and repeat
Well since you mentioned the bible twice, whats stuck with ya lately?
Tomorrow is my Day 1. What a perfectly timed video! Thank you, Jae! Anyone else start Day 1...again?!

@@GettingSoberAgain ❤️❤️
I’m just two days ahead of ya. We got this
Congrats on embracing sobriety. It gets easier day by day.
You ain’t alone! You got us all here. Inspire him with your sobriety. Best of luck!

10 Things to Keep Me Sober: (there’s many more but these came to the forefront)
1. Hiking 2. Reading 3.yoga/working out 4. Meditation 5. Thrift Shopping 6. Healthy Cooking 7. Declutter your home 8. Art Project 9. Journaling 10. Get In Nature
oOOOoOn what kind of art???
Almost at a month i think now...dont know if i 10 things...but here is what i do
Pray every day for god to help me break my drinking habit
Keep sparkling mineral water in my fridge to replace beer.
Focus on improving the house and gardens.
Watch positive UA-cam channels
Keep imagining the man i wish to be.
Cooking food instead of takeaways.
Talking openly about where it am at.
👏👏👏 Great start!
best channel. gym, artwork, writing, walks, calling friends, meetings, planning a good meal, cooking, seeing a good movie, reading.
Couldn't agree more! What are your favorite meals to make?
I'm at around 140 + days. What works for me is pretty much staying home. Not going to bars. And keeping alcohol out of my house. Not easy, but it is the beginning for me. Good luck everyone.
Great strategy! make your home your palace! 🏰
Make your private residence a safe, healthy place.
Still sober baby and I love it !!! Best thing I ever did. I joined a boxing gym and since I quit weed I can wake up at 4am with EASE.
It's great that you WANT to wake up that early, rather than going to bed that late! Major upgrade!
A proud and present parent is the best gift you can give the next generation 👏👏👏
Trimmings YES!
10 would take a long time to come up with but here are my big 3:
1. Cleaning the house. There's always something to do, there's always a pile of unsorted mail, or a drawer, pantry, or closet in your own home that you know can be made tidy. You know which drawer I'm talking about. Get to it. ;)
2. Exercise/Bike riding.
3. Writing code.
TIDY UP YOUR DRAWERS EVERYONE!! 🩲
When I get a craving I go out back and split wood. I have a lot of split wood ready for the wood stove...A LOT😂
That is a great idea! Exercise and work can help take my mind off drinking too. Stick with it!
lol proof of effort is better than proof of money spend at a bar
Winter is cold. Congrats on chopping so much wood.
Saying No, exercise, reading, talking care of my beautiful plants, drinking more water, focusing on improving myself, dancing, keeping a positive attitude, mind over matter, Feeling good and being proud of myself❤❤❤❤❤

I will read Quit Lit, exercise, write in my journal, hit the punching bag, walk the dogs, and watch sober UA-cam videos!

Now let's find out how far you can really make it!
Congrats! Keep that positive momentum going!
Well, I'm only 5 days in since last Friday and I think it was pre-Covid since I've had a dry weekend so a big few days coming up. Video paused for the 10 activities I feel may help:

7. Cooking
8. Playing musical instrumnet

For me, it has been so crucial to be open and honest with myself... and look closely at everything in my life with no filters or candy-coating at all. That is not always easy! I give so much love and admiration and credit to anyone who has the courage to try and get free from alcohol and improve their lives. I have heard of the dreaded "pink cloud" a few days after quitting. You feel great both mentally and physically and this leads you to think you can have a few cold ones. It is a trap and do not fall for it!
THE MORE YOU KNOW! 🌈 ✨
1. 6:25 Walking the dogs (just wait until I get back from the walk to decide to have a beer or not).

years of disaster and I hope this time I can do it.
I know that was alcohol sleeping, but now I get maybe 1 to 2 hours of brief sleep most nights, but 1 day a week I finally get to sleep fairly well.I guess my body finally gives up and I get some😴
Things to be mindful of:
1. Use your body = daily exercise
2. Have good sleep Hygiene= no phone/tv at least 30 minutes before attempting to sleep
3. what you're eating before bed or too close to bed
4. some sleeping pills have adverse affects (example: melatonin ALWAYS wakes me up 3 hours after I fall asleep)
5. caffeine consumption= experiment with cutting cutting off caffeine 10+ hours before bed. 6 hours after consumption you still have about half of the amount in your body.
Stick with it, things will get better. Booze screws up our bodies in so many ways, it takes time to get things sorted out sometimes.
Melatonin works for most people but not for Jae as he said. Most of the time, in my experience, a small [ one gram ]. dose of melatonin works better than a larger dose.
Thanks for the advice.@@GettingSoberAgain

3. Jogging
4. Cycling
5. Fix service inspection of my cars.
6. Handy work fix stuff and gadgets around the house
7. Cleaning housekeeping my garage.
8. Do projects repair work.
9. Spend time with wife and kids.
10. Play my soduku.
11. Register course in engineering Study and improve myself.
Many more to keep me busy, away from alcohol 🤞
This is a beautiful list my friend!! Way to be a great representation of sobriety!
Thank you so much!!! These are the best! Crush the week everyone, don’t worry about perfection just try to get a little better.

Day drink!
FFS
Is it ok to just hunker down the first 3 days.
✨ Preparation + Practice + Patience + Persistence ✨
I've been doing this 3 years!!! Practicing, preparing etc.
But I've come to find the root....
Do I want to be a non drinker forever?
Once I find the YES I will win..
Ps. I love myself. Forgiving myself too readily has kept me stuck.
Be kind!! Loving yourself is better for long term change than calling yourself bad names.
Somehow you know my story. Thank you for your videos. 🙂
Many if us are on the same path. Stick with it.
Keep studying and watching movies help me to stay at home. I also workout and started running. I love videogames, so It really helps me.
Watch anything good lately? I just started riding my bike again now that I'm living somewhere warm!
For me I just keep my body and mind active but if I let anything drop I'm in trouble. This has been.
