The overlay graphic at the 12 min mark incorrectly states 81.9 CU FT behind the 3rd row. Might want to fix that as that would appear to be total capacity with all seats folded.
Of course not. The telluride is actually attainable at $40 to $50k. I'm not sure how many can actually afford a $60 to $70k Kia. Of course they'll have no trouble selling out since they'll only be able to produce like 10 of these per year. Better hurry up and hop on that wait-list now.
The Telluride was a huge success due to the large 3rd row. People still need this IC car for the family trips where you can't have your kids next to each other or they will kill each other. You want space in between them. Having said that, the 2+ a year family vacation trips that will require long distance drives will be super painful if we have to stop every 3 hours. I can't see our family doing an EV for travel since the mileage will drop significantly especially after you put on the roof box and trailer hitch bike carrier. So that would make us, what, stop every 2 hours?
Wow wow wow. Talk about not being able to compete when you cant even compare! Ev9 is in a leauge of its own and i am so here for it. Hats off to Kia for yet another succesful EV launch.

Fantastic looking SUV that seats 6-7 passengers comfortably without ridiculous seating in the 3rd row, also heated and ventilated with lots of leg room 👍. If Kia can keep the top trim price below the Rivian or Model X or in the range of a Model Y dual motor this will be a HUGE hit. Only thing I wouldn't have minded was a 15"- 20" center display for streaming, games etc.. while charging on road trips.

My only criticism of the EV9? Range. Honestly. I own an EV6 and its awesome, i have no issues with the range and i get 275-300 miles easily. But the EV9 is a larger vehicle which is expected to do longer road trips --thats what you do with larger vehicles right? So while they did size up the battery to 100kwh-ish for the long range AWD spec, that only just accounts for the increase in size, and so the range is basically the same. I wish they sized up the long range battery even more, maybe 120kwh, for a solid 330-350 mi range, instead of 275. But at the same time, I'll probably still buy one, because i know that with E-GMP charging, it only takes 20 minutes.
EVs dont create nearly as much waste heat as ICE, but still need to cool the motors and battery when they are under high load. Ever notice how your phone or laptop heats up when it is doing a lot of processing? However, air intakes for cooling also generate a lot of drag. That is why even ICE cars have most of their grill blocked off. The active shutters can open to improve cooling when needed, and close to improve aerodynamics and range when not needed.

Rip to all the nonexistent Japanese competition. Kia is the real deal. Get used to it. This is reality. Kia is no longer junk. They’re the king and you people need to accept it
Kia hasn't been junk for a while now, our old 2010 forte koup was just fine for it's time&price range. As for king, the king of what exactly? Tesla outsells them in their own home market for evs. They just delayed the first U.S. ev plant to spring 2025 production. 😀
If Hyundai-Kia was junk with 10 year 100,000 mile warranty, Hyundai-Kia would have had been bankrupt from warranty repair costs. Instead they have thrived to become world's 3rd largest automaker. Quality has been proven. I am just wondering why Quality perceived automakers like Toyota are so afraid to match their junk warranty of only 5 years.
Kia needs to adopt the Tesla charger standard or this thing will be a nightmare to travel in. The highway range will a lot shorter if you go fast because Kia went for SUV looks and not Model Y aerodynamics. But it's a nice car, even though it's not very efficient.
@@miky702 A model y is .23 which is about 20% more efficient. Additionally, this is only half the equation for how a car moves through the air - frontal area is multiplied by the drag coefficient to get the total amount of drag. Simply put, the Kia is a gigantic barn door compared to something sleeker like a Model Y. You see the penalty for this in range. The Tesla has a 75kwh battery vs. a 100 kwh battery in the Kia, but the Kia has a similar to shorter range with RWD than the Tesla with AWD. Drive some distance at 80 mph on the highway and the difference will get even bigger as the aero plays a bigger role in efficiency. Kia is a fine car company and I like some of their cars very much. But I think what they have done here is make an EV that pretends it's a gasoline car, rather than making an EV that's well engineered. All the compromises it makes to look like a Telluride will make it more expensive to use and shorten its range.
@@davids1816odel Y is also a hatchback, not an SUV, and the 3rd row in the Y is a joke, and only suitable for small children. (If you don’t like your children, because the 3rd row is in the rear crush zone of the model y.
I hope Kia of America doesn't strip away a lot of the features. They, and Hydundai of America, like to whittle away all of the little quality-of-life features from what is offered in other world markets.
Everything you see in EV9 is available on Telluride for half the price! Yes, even that automatic foot rest, massage seats, etc. Moreover Telluride (and Palisade too) still has EV9 beat in 3rd row: both telluride and Palisade has more legroom and actually 3 seats! rather than just 2 seats in 3rd row in EV9. So that's one more seat and one more passenger for Telluride and Palisade! Did I mention that Telluride has max range of 488 miles on a single tank? EV9 can only offer 300 miles max. Now when you need to refuel, Telluride can do it full tank for 3 min! EV9 will require 10 times more to go from 10 to 80% and you can only do that on Level 3 800 volts chargers (try finding one). On Level 2 at home - it will require full 12 hour charge and it might still not be fully done. That's 240 times slower than 3 min for Telluride!!! And now final blow or nail to the coffin of EV9 - Telluride costs $40-50k depending on trim, EV9 will cost almost double that especially considering huge markups dealers going to abuse. So who is this 3 row family is for really? Who will be able to afford nearly $100k vehicle in this economy??? Certainly not families across USA and Canada. For sure no one in the world where economy is even worse. Only 1% of rich people will buy them. And that's the biggest irony of this "family" SUV. There's no families that will afford it for that price. Not normal families for sure. I'm done. Drops the mic. Shame on you society for forcing this crazy expensive EVs on families. Shame on you Kia for falling for it and producing a descent product for crazy amount of money no normal family can afford. Shame on you Edmunds for giving a blind eye for the biggest issue - "price" and unaffordability of such EVs, for mocking families, for normalizing $100k family vehicles. This is certainly not the future for families. 99% of families will buy a used Telluride or Palisade in mid trim for $30k - and even that will be financed under crazy high APR for 7-8 years - that's the reality of our country and world we live in.
300 miles of range for a three-row "family" suv doesn't seem like a lot. I can't imagine a lot of people will be ready to switch from a Telluride or Carnival to an EV9 as the primary family vehicle with minimal range and while being in what's still considered to be pitiful EV charging infrastructure.
There is no way this brick can go 300 miles on highway. Similar sized R1S has 135kwh battery and can only go 288 miles from 100 to literally zero (source: out of spec 70mph range test). There is no way 99kwh battery can go 300miles on highway. Expect around 200 miles range from 100%. Practically, you need fast charge every 150 miles for 20-30 minutes assuming you find a high voltage charger.
300 miles is usually after range testing a mix of both highway and city driving. City driving only will get more range, highway only will get you less. Probably around 220-240 if I had to guess

THERE IS PLENTY OF EVIDENCE OF CLIMATE CYCLES OVER THE LAST 1000 YEARS (BEFORE THE INDUSTRIAL REVOLUTION). ALSO, THE IMPACT ON THE EARTH’S ENVIRONMENT FROM THE MINING AND PROCESSING OF MATERIALS FOR BATTERIES IS BEING TOTALLY DISREGARDED BY THE ENVIRONMENTAL GEEKS. IF IT IS SO IMPORTANT TO CONVERT TO EV’S WHY DOESN’T THE USA ALLOW FOR THE MINING OF BATTERY MATERIALS IN THE USA? ALSO, THE TAX INCENTIVE OF $7000 TO BUY AN EV IS A SCAM ON ALL AMERICAN TAXPAYERS. THE MONEY FOR THE TAX INCENTIVE COMES FROM TAXPAYERS. THE GOV’T IS NOT CUTTING OTHER SPENDING TO MAKE UP THE TAX INCENTIVES GIVEN TO EV BUYERS, SO THAT JUST MEANS HIGHER TAXES FOR ALL TAX PAYERS. WHY SHOULD I PAY SOMEONE TO BUY AN EV? I THINK EV TECHNOLOGY HAS A LOT OF ADVANTAGES, BUT THEIR NEEDS TO BE SOME BIG ADVANCEMENT IN BATTERY TECHNOLOGY TO INCREASE THE KWH/POUND OF BATTERY. PLUS, THERE IS STILL NOT ENOUGH BATTERY CHARGING STATIONS AND THE COST TO RUN POWER TO THOSE STATIONS IS NOT CHEAP. I COULD GO ON, BUT I’LL STOP.
Can’t wait to test out 1 pedal driving
I bet this will top out at 85,000 dollars.
Yes, but then add dealer markups and addons - and you'll get $100k lol.
The faster version of a car is never the sales leader. It's getting magazines. it's good for reviews but it's never the sales leader. The least expensive option especially for a car that's going to start in the '50s will be the sales leader by far
My take is. The dealer with greed will make this fantastic car far reach for most buyers. I can see it with $5000 markup already at the kIA dealers.
You are naive. Markups for Telluride and Palisade were $15k. For EV9 I won't be surprised for $30k markups.
Only because Kia probably won’t build enough of them and demand will be higher than supply.
Kia needs to adopt the Tesla charger standard or this thing will be a nightmare to travel in. The highway range will a lot shorter if you go fast because Kia went for SUV looks and not Model Y aerodynamics. But it's a nice car, even though it's not very efficient.
EV9 has an aerodynamic drag coefficient of 0.28. That seems very good to me.
They also went with SUV space over Tesla Y aero.
Exactly! Those bastards strip away massage seats, swivel seats, folding mirrors, autopilots, and many more options and even color interior choices.
If I was “Price is Right” guessing that upper trim, I’d go with… $68,450
I'll say $68,451 😁
@@theMLBfan lol, Damnet! I’m changing mine to $1
@@Target135 More like $85-90k after dealer markups.
Kia is forcing gt line to 21" wheels. Why!
With its lower ground clearance, they really should have just given it sliding doors and called it a minivan. Then it would be perfect.
This car is for tree huggers like me that won't buy a Telluride BECAUSE it's gas.
I agree. The back style kinda looks like a Volvo.
Many Korean UA-camr are tested range already... Should run 300 miles in average condition....
300 miles is usually after range testing a mix of both highway and city driving. City driving only will get more range, highway only will get you less. Probably around 220-240 if I had to guess
Rivian tires are not good for range. It is off road capable unlike this..
