This "reviewer" is completely clueless. Once the plug-in battery is depleted, they run in regular hybrid mode. My 2 PHEV get 52 MPG, commuting and 89mpg mostly in town. With plenty of power to spare
I live in the middle east, here we get this car as a 1.6 L 4 cylinder full petrol with 215-225 hp as standard. Imo the strongest and most functional powertrain
For a 12kWh battery to only give 20-ish miles of range, that's equivalent to about 1.7 miles/kWh efficiency... I find that unbelievably low efficiency, even for a car of that size. Similar-sized, pure EVs would be around 3.0-3.5 miles/kWh, so basically DOUBLE the efficiency of that PHEV...! I simply don't get how it could be that low...???? 😵
I have just driven 900km with my car, only 1 time 150km and back 150km. You need to use your builtin navigation. It calculates the optimal performance. And like with an E car, the battery gives less range when it is cold. But the calculation about electric mileage also keeps track of your driving style. I generally only drive the kids to school, grocery shopping and 1 time a week around 50km. I can charge in my drive way, so this is the ideal car for me. If you need to do long trips each day, well an EV or hybrid just isn't the car for you. Unless you can charge. I am at 3.3l with 1 time putting in 38liter. I notice since it is getting warmer that another 4 tot 8km gets displayed. When I picked up the car it sayed 42km. It got colder, so it was around 24-32 listed. But the range can be quite more, depending on your driving style. Lowest I have seen was 22 km on a morning the front window was frozen. It is tad warmer now and it is listing 28 now. But in generally drive in hybrid mode, just not the trips to school. But when I am doing a "long" drive you can always use the e save option, which saves some energy. You also have a mode to regenerate while using fuel. But if you do long trips, best best is to find a charger. A Hybrid is meant to be charged when possible. I "only" have the 180hp, but that is more then plenty of power. No need to buy the 225. You better put that money in the sunroof if you have a GT. Your comment that you have no power when the battery is empty is completely not true. It still had plenty of power and doesn't drive any worse then my wife's car or my previous 308sw. Yes you do not have the extra boost when pressing down on the pedal. But I hardly notice it. Even on a long drive you regenerate batter power because you will be braking or slowing down. So you always have that little boost available when needed. For me this is an excellent car and the best car I have ever owned. But as with any hybrid it should be topped up often or when possible. I also have the quick charging option, and it can top up the battery in less then 2 hours. Also the car is quite unique, I haven't seen many driving around. Since launch I have seen 2 blue ones, 1 grey and 1 black. It is a complete car, compared to other brands where you get quite less. Interior is nice, the 360 camera is very good. I also have the night vision, which works amazingly. The focal system produces some nice sound. Can you say that I think it is a good car ?
If all goes well, I'll likely be picking up a 408 Hybrid next week.....and though I "only" have the 3,7kW Onboard Charger and in all likelihood have to rely mostly on public chargers (no home garage or owned parking spot right infront the house) I'm looking forward to driving this one. I drive around 50km one way every workday, so ~100 every day + a few more km for errands around my city every 2nd. day or so.

The display isn't correct in my eyes, because you can drive more then what actually is displayed. When I drive my kids to school it's 2,5km round trip and on friday I started with 28km left, and came back home and still had 28km left (and was left in electric mode). IN the evening I also picked them up, same thing. But apparently from what I"ve read from forums is, if you always drive electric first, then the meter value is more correct then when you always put it in hybrid mode like I do
I have a mk7 golf gte, the claimed range is 25 miles, in the morning it tells me between 21 and 24 miles. I only get 15 miles and my trip to work is very easy, 30/40/50mph roads with little traffic. It’s rubbish.
If you're not completely mad buy Honda or Toyota self charging hybrid. French plug in hybrid are you taking a laugh 😂 ...will deprecate rock bottom and nobody sane is going to buy it 5 year old.

Well, this tester's technical comments about range depending on this or that is so b***dy confusing I'll keep my Renault Megane GT Sport wagon & simply fill him up when needed & drive until the fuel gauge tells me to fill it up. Simple👍
I have one and I am very disappointed! It’s really stupid when the power battery runs down to zero, the car starts charging all the time based on fuel and this rises up the consumption extremely. It would be much cheaper if when the battery gets to zero, the recharge would occur only when suitable( better saying when we are not accelerating or the consumption it’s not rising up). When we have battery, the behavior of the car is correct. The car recharges based on fuel only when we are not accelerating but that changes completely when the battery gets to zero. Why don’t they change that???? I have claim to Peugeot but they simply don’t care…🤔 They say the recharge is based on the last 70km average. This is already out of the full capacity of the batteries so this means that if you dropdown the battery, the scenario I described rises the average to 8-10L/100km so this calculation average will never be good. Depending on the speed I get, running only on fuel I can get 3-5L/100km. It would be a better alternative… For those who don’t care about all this they always have the e-save mode ( that honestly doesn’t saves anything. This mode leads to a non sense fuel consumption because is recharging all the time. It’s the recharge that rises the consumption!!!). From my experience the secret is to never let the car drop down to zero. But this needs to be done by recharging manually only when you get a downhill and without acceleration. There should be a recharge power off button to be used when the car gets to zero on battery 😂. Any one knows how to do it?? 😅. I am interested to know how to😅
Maybe u can switch to sport mode if u dont like to charge it and u only use the fuel engine. I have the same problem, the consumption is waay to high. dissapointing.
Several motor magazines have recommended the PHEV 408 as a best buy after long term tests. Maybe it is how this reviewer drives the car. As he points out - all PHEV do what this car is doing.
I solded my 3008 1.5BlueHDI for this one and I do not charge it at all and i think in hybrid mode mix driving i get 9L/100km. It s a lot. On the motorway at 130km/h i get 7L/100km.
Why do you think the actual electric range differs so much from the specified figure? Does it have a heat pump and using the battery to run it? In that case the summer range should be a lot better hopefully.
In hybrid mode with charge, city fuel economy is between 100-200 mpg. Without it’s between 35-43mpg. On motorway it’s very dependent on how you drive. But we’ve seen about 60-70mpg with charge, 45-55mpg without.
It’s a different model year so the manufacturer can make tweaks to the car. Our car is previous model year so should still deliver the original claimed range, but it does make you question it somewhat!

We would recommend the 408, but just want to highlight the best use case for it.

What's the MPG like with no charge? City v motorway? Is the 225 PHEV any better, the same powertrain that's been in the 3008 and 508 for a while now?
