I have an 8700G that is overclocked to 5.5ghz all core and 7400mhz ddr5. It’s actually faster than my 7700x with PBO turned on and 6000 CL30 ddr5. These 8000 series CPUs have more potential than people think, and have better ram overclocking.
Plus when I have the CPU @ 5.5ghz with the Ram @7400 and 780m @ 3200mhz it gets over 100fps in Warzone 1080p without FSR. These things are WAY better than people even realize and I can’t wait for the Zen APUs

That's some solid performance right there. I might give the 8600G an OC in my gaming PC. See how it responds

@@ProYamYamPC It actually happened already in my country. Right now I can get the 8600G for 9 USD less than 7600. Would that change your conclusion, even if I plan to gat a GPU eventually?

Yeah I just reticently bought an 8600g for 141.00 before tax upgrading from an i7-9700f but now I’m worried that wasn’t much of an upgrade

I’m planning on buying an 8600G for my build. 1, I want to be feasibly efficient with space/electricity consumption. But most importantly; 2, I want to future-proof my soon-to-be-current build, while waiting for the new line of GPUs to come out next year. Currently it doesn’t make sense for me to buy a GPU if I could just use an iGPU as efficient and good as this one. Yes, I could wait longer but I could save more money buying parts during these holiday sales.

Yeah I would avoid 8000 series with a dedicated GPU, rather have a 7500F/7600

It makes sense for someone who does not want (or can't) buy a dedicated graphics card. Not great, but in many countries dedicated graphic cards can be too expensive for local currency.

    • @Bigsupreme2000

YES, that's the reason i am seeking this, and also to avoid high power bills.
GPUs here are so much ultra expensive due to tax / import / duty charges, but the CPUs are priced actually lesser as they are exempt due to local's partner dealership
Also GPU-less means less power supply need. Budget build with these CPUs to play modern games is a dream come true here.

So pretty much same as for 5600G VS 5600/5600x. Mostly a difference in esports titles where you have hundreds of frames per seconds anyway. Nice bonus with the G series is you have an extra GPU if your dedicated GPU fails, making you wait for a replacement or you sell your GPU and waiting to buy a new one.

    • @Greenalex89

The 5600G is basically a 5500 and has half the L3 cache of the 5600. In that case the difference would be noticable in demanding titles (I had a 5600G, safed my ass during the mining crysis).

    • @ProYamYamPC

Yes, exactly. That's why I put it in my gaming rig with my 3080. I never really play competitive games. And the 7600 makes more sense in my testing machine

Micro Center has the 8600G available new for $199.99. However, there are deals out there for used 7700x's. Currently, there is one in my local FB marketplace for $180 and at that price, the 8600G just doesnt make any sense.

These iGPUs are ultra efficient and play modern games very well on 1080p
Pair with 6000+ DDR5 and bang, these out perform frames / watt any GPU by a huge margin.
I wonder why dedicated GPUs are not getting efficient like this. market monopolies.

The x8 lanes is more of an issue for many of it's niche targets, like if you wanted to use it in an itx bulld like in a Jonsbo N3 and wanted to use a 4x nvme you will be limited to x4/x4 if you can find a way to bifurcate (or x2/x2/x2/x2 but ewwww). Just a weak decision imho.

I only play emulators (for rpcs3 it should be really good since it has avx512) and cs2 at 1024x768. Now there are technologies like RSR, frame generation, fsr 3.1 and so on. Combine that with a freesync monitor with lfc and it's just fine if you're a casual like me

Like the 5000G, they gonna slash the price again and make it an obvious choice that will beat that old generation i3+6600 combo in price range.
...in the case someone read this in the future, 8600G is the sweet spot. 30% cheaper than 8700G but only cut 10% performance and still have raytracing.
5000G formula will be repeated again. Simply because iGPU the target market AMD curently aiming. Its where the real money is.

With a dedicated GPU the 8600G is dreadfully bad. But on its own the iGPU is strong enough for many if not most games. So great if you just want a simple tiny system.

@@ProYamYamPC "It's not dreadfully bad, as seen from my data"
it consumes more power and often you are not even in a fully CPU-limited situation, yet it performs worse than CPUs costing >50$ less - that to me is dreadfully bad.
"The 8600G would make for a brilliantly effecient retro gaming machine though"
No. For retro-gaming the 7600 is also more than strong enough.

there is 0 reason to use a G processor if you have a graphics card they are good for built in graphics if you run dedicated just get eh non G varents If you building a system from scratch and have a choice and a graphic card don't buy this or any G (Stands for Graphics) the non G varents have more performance and most of the time are just flat cheaper AMD Ryzen 5 8400F (6core 12thread) for example is almost 50 bucks cheaper and its much faster for a dedicated card
