Thanks for watching my videos. You may be referring to the direction of tangents which are expressed in terms of azimuth. Directions of tangents may be expressed in different ways. Sometimes we use bearings and sometime you will find them in azimuth. And when directions are expressed in azimuth, normally, authors of books are referring to azimuth reckoned from the south.
