Movies, games, and the occasional editorial.
From A-Z list films, video games, and other overlooked goodness.
I have to hand it too Holzman, its not everyone that can stand their ground against a producer like Corman. And he did come out on the other side from it with a career intact.
I have to hand it to my wife, otherwise she'd never touch it anymore. ..
"I never do re-shoots. Make it work." - Roger Corman.
Me: Unsurprised.
Lawrence of Arabia: cool
Space: cool
Lawrence of Arabia in Space: Just make an Alien ripoff, I guess.
Dolla bills yall!
Roger Corman: Will there be titties?
Isn't that Dune?
@@Madbandit77 Yes that's Dune. Which was also Game of Thrones long before Game of Thrones
Apart from the sand and the slow pace of the movies - Lawrence o A and Dune literally are worlds apart and have absolutely nothing in common.
corman" I don't like mixing genres"
but, Roger, have you considered that by combining genres its like making 2 movies for the price of one? its at least $30 savings!
But its still releasing 1 movie, pribably why he doesnt like to combine, why combine when you can split.
Roger "I want naked chicks getting railed by mutant fishmen, do it now" Corman
I would have _sworn_ every Corman movie I've seen was partly a comedy. :)
He used $25 of that $30 to fund a 4 hour ancient Greek period piece
Quite funny some of the Directors that where under his wing did some Genre Busting Movies once they decided to do their own thing.
Thank you, Cecil. I've discovered so many films because of your channel.
true. I just watched *blood diner* the other day =D
I'm with you, Mr. Smith. I've definitely found more than a few flicks that I'd previously overlooked.
He has introduced me to some films for sure but what I have enjoyed more is the spotlight he puts on films most people have never seen or have been forgotten. I feel that gives films that should have been recognized upon release, at least a new life and builds a cult following. So glad he was also featured in the documentary IN SERACH OF DARKNESS.
I've watched so many b movies. Full moon is my favorite. That's how i got addicted to good bad flicks.
Dude, thank you for this, it’s another godawful Monday with the worst coworkers ever. Your vids always cheer me up and brighten my day. You’re a mega rad dude and I really appreciate it.
do people still say "rad"? lol
@@sheenlantern7312 They do on awful Mondays, with the worst coworkers ever. When describing a Roger Corman ALIEN ripoff with hot naked babes taking showers together.

You know, I have seen lots of reviews on this movie but yours is the most "behind the scenes" of the lot.
Great effort
I like these videos, but honestly he just listened to the bluray commentary and repeated it all here.
@@grimmbilly9263 There's a lot of stuff he talks about not on any Blue ray commentary.
@@dsandoval9396 Not in this video. I just listened to the Shout Factory director's commentary this weekend. All of the info in this video is in that commentary.
@@grimmbilly9263 Sorry, I misspoke. I was referring to his videos _in general._
For example, Claudia Christian was insufferable on-set of a movie I forgot the name of, she was supposed to do some stunt that was dangerous, ended up miscarriaging, when she came back the other star Davi-something-or-other said "Maybe you'll stop being a bitch." Stuff like that I'm pretty sure wasn't on a commentary track. But yes, I wasn't talking about this movie (in the video) specifically.
Thank you Cecil, brilliant as always...
Just one point, nobody is asking about, why there is a company renting dead animals, free horror story right there...
Robert Clouse, the director of Enter the Dragon, was actually deaf, so having a stutter probably isn't the biggest impairment for a director.
The robot in this looks like a refurbished stormtrooper and I love it.
Quite many people who saw SW for the first time, thought the Storm troopers were robots...
This low-budget sleazefest had some immensely talented and creative people working on it. Thank you, Cecil. Your videos make me love movies even more!
Fun fact: Dawn Dunlap now raises alpaca in central Texas, apparently very close to where I grew up.
New World Pictures was my third parent as a kid. We all owe Roger Corman for the endless entertainment he gave us.
His movies never loss $$$👍
@@frankgesuele6298 there was Roger Corman’s Fantastic Four, that movie was so bad Roger Corman paid not to have it released.
@@sawtooth808 I saw it. Damn thing did have a lot of heart, it was better than I expected
@@Briaaanzi agree, honestly really sad it never got released
I love this channel. It reminds me of when I used to go to movies rentals, before internet was commonplace and all you had was the dvd or VHS covers. I remember when I sat the Ice Cream man box art. I was on holiday and I couldn’t eat for a week !
Thank you! Glad to bring back childhood memories :)
new Good Bad Flicks and Movie Timelines videos on the same day is a GOOD day.
I went to watch this one night on tubi and accidentally put on The Forbidden Zone, the weird Oingo Boingo movie. I was confused at first.
3:05 why should we hire you? - I have a robot costume - congratulations, you're hired!
I'll take Forbidden World, Creature or Galaxy of Terror over watching Alien Covenant again.
Agreed. I actually really like Prometheus but Covenant was an abomination!! It was like an Alien burst out of Jason Voorhees mixed with pure pretentiousness.
@@bo2720 I liked Covenant much more than Prometheus, but still didn't think it was good. A decent time waster.
Replace Alien Covenant with Alien Resurrection and I agree your statement.
It's so cool how movies can work on so low of a budget and still make them work. We need more filmmakers to try this instead of making everything CGI all the time.
Imagine thinking that a McDonald's commercial role is going to be surperior compared to a movie role....
Actually not so crazy. A big national commercial, like a McDonalds commercial, can pay a ton, and is the stepping stone for a lot of young actors. Meanwhile, a low budget movie can sometimes hurt a career because it quite likely the script and direction wont be great which means youll end up looking bad in it. It can also be especially harmful for a young actress if shes going to be nude and in particularly sleazy sex scenes as then she can get typecast as basically a b movie bimbo.
Now, im not sure the boyfriend was right to talk her out of this one, but there def is some merit and national commercials are much bigger than you think for an actors career.
@@darthizzle I can see your point, though wouldn't a fastfood ad role also cement one in a typecast situation just as much?
@@Mate397 doesn't work like that. I've done a little acting and while I never got far in it, I learned a bit how things work. A national commercial gets your face out there and it's also suuuuppper competitive. So if you got it, it's likely you have a decent agent and it also means casting directors may have actually seem your face. But if you did some random low budget horror movie where you spent most of the movie naked, that isn't as good a recommendation. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Many actressesses have made good careers out getting naked in shlocky movies
@@Mate397 Keanu Reeves won a bicycle race in a Coke ad.
Dustin Hoffman sold VWs.
Anthony Stewart Head sold coffee.
Tom Selleck sold Pepsi.
John Travolta sold deodorant.
A television ad might not only go national, it might go international and if it does you're paid for that, too.
@@aaronleverton4221 Yeah, and Anniston, Depp, Bacon, McConaughey, Zellweger, DiCaprio, Hanks, Connelly, Theron, and many others took early roles in little horror movies.
Even actors that don't go onto huge success can still ride the wave of a small cult horror movie for their whole career, and make money off of Con appearances. Horror movies, even bad ones, have ridiculously devoted fanbases, as channels like this one prove. That's more than you can say for VW adds.
Except maybe those old Peter Stormare ones ;)
"Alien ripoff, eh? Well I just have one question - what kind of sleazy ripoff of Alien uses real roadkill and glues fast food containers to the walls of the set?"
"...um...da...the...the best sleazy ripoff of Alien ever made!"
YEAH!🍺
Wow, those gears really hurt!
i watched this as a kid ...it didnt disappoint... my friend had a copy...we both watched in awe...and im not talking about the storyline..
Ah yes, sort of like the first time I saw Embrace Of The Vampire, I think it was called, the one with Alisa Milano.
For 1½ hours I only ever saw 10 minutes of the actual film.
Now I have to explain to my wife why we own another Roger Corman movie
I love these vids with tons of fascinating behind-the-scenes stories. I really want to see the OG cut of this. It sounds like a ton of fun!
Thanks! If you get the Shout Factory Bluray, it comes with a copy of the original cut. The only downside is, its a full frame copy in standard def, so it doesn't look as nice. Still, at least they were able to include it.
You had me at sleazy.
Have you ever seen the 1980 film the Ninth Configuration? I came across it on Prime recently and was intrigued by the title and description...and man, was it good. Scott Wilson was phenominal, and it was one of the best blind watches I've seen in ages. Highly recommended.
It's my favourite movie of all time!
That bar scene...wow...
@@Kmo76 I can see why.
Your channel brings back memories of my theos, cousins, and family watching sci fi and horror movies from the video store. Thank you.
You are welcome!
They could rent dead animal carcasses for two hours, then they'd be collected back again?
Who the fuck *rents out* dead animals?!
Also great work as always. Love these Exploring vids.
I would like to see the full, uncut director's cut of this
Thanks for another great episode, Cecil. I remember seeing this film a long time ago on VHS rental and, being a Corman film, I was not surprised to see the sets and visual effects lifted from other films. The poster art really sold the film too. I didn't know it was leftover art from Galaxy Of Terror. It's great to learn not only how these Corman classics got made, but to learn that James Cameron and the visual effects team took what they learned and brought it to "Aliens". The biggest Alien rip-offs would give the crew the experience to make the best Alien sequel.
Thank you for this video. Forbidden World is so fun and memorable. It's my favorite of the Corman/Cameron space films.
This channel is awesome I love how you explain the movies
The corman exploring videos are my favorite of yours. Can't wait to see you cover stuff like piranha, Humanoids from the Deep & Battle beyond the Stars.
Thanks! More to come :)
@@GoodBadFlicks Wow, Didn't expect you to respond, Then I can't Wait.
This is the only one I’ve never seen of the “trilogy”.
Never would have known the original cut was available if not for you.
Just ordered my copy from Shout.
Thank you!
This is such a fun film. You come into it thinking "Oh, okay, low-budget bad Alien ripoff, I'll probably see lots of boobs." And you certainly won't be disappointed in that regard. But it's a surprisingly effective film for its budget, telling its story well and with surprisingly engaging characters. Even June, who in another film of this mold would be completely self-serving, stupid, evil, or all three, is understandable and even noble in her own way. . . wanting to attempt to communicate with and understand the creature, and then maybe it won't be our enemy (too bad she doesn't know she's in an Alien ripoff, not a Star Trek ripoff).
You can enjoy it purely on the level of boobs and blood, but this is one of those films that really exemplifies Corman's mission statement: They're not B movies, they're A movies on B budgets.
Just so you know, I literally watched this movie because you released this episode. Movie is a mixed bag and insanely sleazy/yikes, but full of surprisingly great stuff. The cancer ripping scheme, the gruesome special effects, the very grimy and raw cinematography etc. It's definitely more inspired and thought out than I was expecting from this kind of flick. Cheers.
Glad you enjoyed it!
How the absoludicrous f**k did the director of Little Shop of Horrors decide he hated mixing horror with comedy??
I dunno guess he changed his mind, and more than once it seems, since a fair few of his movies after this also mixed in comedy with both Sci fi and horror
I was at a convention panel with Roger Corman. An audience member asked what sort of movie he would make if someone gave him 7 million dollars. He said "I would find a way to make 7 movies with it". That pretty much sums him up.
Only 7 movies? He got lazy in his old age.
Great analysis and review as always.
Tiny correction on the cameras (09:04) in Aliens they hand shoulder lamps over their left shoulder and helmet cameras on their right side.
Great video. Excellent work as always!!!
I remember watching this in a drive in movie theater .When I was really small. And eating popcorn and everyone telling me to shut up 😢, 😂 memories?!!
Groovy! Thanks for info I would have NEVER have heard of otherwise! :)
love your videos dude
Actually in Aliens the cameras are clearly on the side of the helmets. The one indicated in the video is the bracketed flashlight connected to the body armor.
Really great Cecil. Gonna put this next on the watch list.
Really underrated flick. There's actually some really creative editing, some good writing, and a cool soundtrack. Just a cool, sleazy, vibe. And Dunlap is stunning.
As always Cecil, stellar work!
I’ve been a huge fan of this movie for about 9 years now, and yet I never knew the Mutant was made from a remodeled design of the giant maggot from Galaxy of Terror 😳.
I really question why Roger Corman is so beloved. Yes, if shlocky B movies are your thing then he has an endless supply of them. But I see no evidence that he truly loves cinema. It seems much more like it is a pure business venture to him. Crank out anything as cheaply as possible to maximize profits. To hell with creativity or originality. Most of the interesting things in his movies seem to be in spite of him not because of him. I do appreciate all the great people that worked for him, but everyone in every industry has the story of the crappy place they got their first job. They took it to get their foot in the door then move onto something better.
Annnd you explained it.
Are you going to give a first time director a multi-million dollar budget to invoke their vision? Or something to cut their teeth without going broke yourself?
For any art, someone needs to mind the books or there is no art.
Corman my have his foibles, but there is a reason so many greats came from his tutelage (he managed to get them paid)..
Making films isn't easy or cheap. Do you really think Corman would have done it if he didn't have a love for cinema?
Thanks for another great entertaining and informative vid, sir! Hope all is well! Take care, man! :)
I'm eager to see a video from you focused on how Corman's approach to film making changed cinema. Like how his lack of budget stimulated the special effect departement creativity.
I understand that Producers provide the funding, but I don’t understand why they don’t let the directors do their job as creatives. I can understand making directors change their visions due to budget constraints and deadlines, but I just don’t understand the micromanaging outside of that scope.
im a sucker for these B movies and Forbidden world with Galaxy of terror are 2 of my favorite of all time
After RLM this is the second best movie channel on all of UA-cam. Love both of you guys!
So many evenings I spent roaming the isles at Blockbuster picking up boxes, reading the synopsis on the back and putting it back down. So many films Im glad I never brought home.
That Mylar bit on the shoulder box is small back up mirror for a car that is still made to this day.
Another great review, and I'm amazed how they made the props out of things like egg cartons, milk cartons, etc. Speaking of well done low budget films, Is there any chance you could do a review on waxwork 2?
LOL , and Forbidden World had June Chadwick , while its remake Deadspace had Marc Singer - both from V
I don't want to meet the people who started the dead animal rental business.
Hey cecil was just watching you on in search of darkness 2 which was bloody brilliant
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Starring a pre-V (Lydia) June Chadwick.
Corman didn't like mixing genres? Has he even seen his own Battle Beyond the Stars? It's sprinkled with comedy. John Sayles' script is amazingly good.
Thank you. This flick has been of my favourites since I first saw it on VHS in the summer of 1989.
Love this friggin channel
Thank you!
God's this makes me kind of hate Rodger Corbin, why did he have to seemingly treat all his staff so badly?
Just noticed that Fox Harris is in it!
"Eyes pop! Skin explodes! Everybody's dead!"
I love it when a Plan 9 From Outer Space comes together.
I got this film on blu ray; and I chuckled at alot of parts in it. 😂😂😂 I guess Corman doesn't have a sense of humor. 🤔🤔
At this point I am sure you are truly incapable of making a bad video. Thank you so much for all the hard work you do and all the massively interesting things you tell us.
Those TV show ones were trash.
@@evilthecat13 I enjoyed them. His content is something I like, I respect him a lot for what he does. We get this content for free, even then nobody deserves to have their hard work called trash. Please don't reply to this message, I don't want to hear from you
Great review Cecil! I always really liked this one. For a Roger Corman Alien ripoff, it's really fun little sci-fi horror, and the fact that even the theatrical cut has some obvious winks to the audience only makes it better, and funnier. Too bad Corman had a stick up his ass about the humor in the film.
“The guy dumped soda on Roger Corman.”
Me: OOOOHHHH! FACED!
Wow, just here to say I've been watching your videos and subbed for a while but today is the first time in ~6 months I got your video in recommended. Hopefully this little info helps you work out the algorithm ; ;
Was very surprised to see you still upload frequently but at least I have a lot of videos to catch up on!
That crazy doctor/scientist character is Fox Harris aka J. Frank Parnell from "Repo Man". I almost didn't even recognize him.
EDIT: Also, the dude spinning the yo-yo is definitely the "So is it fair to say...?" defense attorney from "The Accused".
LITTLE KNOWN FACT: Sam was the inspiration for Samus in Metroid, and this movie was inspiration for the game itself as well. So I'm glad he paid for the voice over.
This isn't true at all. She's based on Sigourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley and Kim Basinger from 9½ Weeks and My Stepmother Is an Alien. I really doubt the developers based her on anyone from this piece of shlock.
She's actually based on a character called Sabaneeba from an obscure novel that takes place on a world like earth, but populated by avian-humanoids, and she helps the birds fight them.
Do you have a single fact to back that up?
@@studhouser6969 Me? I just make shit up, Bro.
This is the internet!!
corman was an absolute savage in his prime
Another excellent video! Thank you.

I think Roger Corman seems like a really jerk 😡❗️
Vasques: Lets Rock!!!
I didn't know mutant was on the bluray! Sold and thanks!
GUILTY PLEASURE, especially that soundtrack (and that space "saxophone")
I love these videos
I Loved this movie ever since I first seen it on Showtime circa 1986. My Dad had recorded on Vhs for whatever reason. He must've thought it was gonna be like Star Wars, but it ended up being an ALIEN Ripoff. Since I first seen it, I remember the Co-exist/ tentacle impalement scene, & Monster being fed "Cancerous Tumor" or something which afterwards it starts vomiting pink stuff. It was quite the Movie Scene to behold , and the most grossest thing I've ever seen next to John Carpenter's The Thing 1982. Forbidden World aka Mutant reminded me of Alien 1979, & The Thing 1982. I've been a fan of this Forbidden World movie and Roger Corman ever since. It's because of Alien, The Thing, & Forbidden World that I'm such the Sci-Fi/Horror movie fan that I am, a true Horror Film Afficianado!!!! Those were my favorite things, Sci-Fi/Horror movies, Ninja Turtles cartoon, Nintendo Video Games, and WWF Wrestling.
Yes Forbidden World! One of my favorite B-cult horror/sci-fi “Alien” rip-offs”. It’s not bad...Descent FX, story & acting. Pure Roger Corman Schlock! I love it! Personally I think it’s the best of the Corman space quadrilogy.
The fact that you haven't covered Battle Beyond the Stars yet is a damn shame. You should address this.
Thanks Cecil this made my day
You had me from "Lawrence of Arabia in Space". That sounds AWESOME.
Cecil: Have you done *Humanoids from the Deep* yet?
Considering the extra cut footage included on the Shout! Blu-ray, I can wonder at the extra BTS stuff you could dig up.
I used to live near Fort Bragg, CA where it was filmed. We joked in some of the bars how there should be a bunch of Humanoid suits and memorabilia to pull tourists lol
I can imagine 'creative teams' get all excited while watching this: "Lawrence of Arabia in Space? Hasnt been made? Hmmmm."
Man the Cormanverse lore sure is vast and articulated
God, now I want a robot costume
Man, Corman is....something else.
Great work again.
Another great cheese movie I watched on cable growing up. I always remembered the " penetration" and cancer scenes but it took me about 10 years to remember the name of the movie itself. Now I need to get a copy of mutant for my collection
Man I was always on the fence with Corman but this confirms he was just a sleazeball.
Galaxy of Terror is still my personally favorite out of all of them! But for all the wrong reasons lol
I’m glad to see the maggot from GOT was still getting work...
He went into porn after this flick though
Corman: Ehh... "Forbidden World" sounds better...
Germany: *M U T A N T*
