  • Vox own description of the VOX Copperhead Drive claims "The Copperhead valve distortion pedal recreates the classic full stack amp tone, used for the powerful sound of hard rock in the 80s. Use it for lightly overdriven tones or thick distortion."
    The colour, name, and description all betray what this is: a Marshall-in-a-box pedal. This isn't just another modeller - it's analog, driven by a NuTube valve, and it can cover a lot of ground, from edge of breakup to full roaring JCM distortion.
    It has 3 output modes: standard pedal, preamp, and DI with analog cabinet simulator. My favourite mode is the one I'm using here: Preamp, straight into an IR loader, courtesy of Two Notes. My choice of IR? Celestion Greenbacks, of course. ;)

    Great tones! Do you remember what microphones were you using here in Torpedo? I get lovely tones with Copperhead and Torpedo, but with various V30 cabs. Cannot get equally great tones with models with greenbacks. So, just curious.

      Great question! :) Thank you for the kind comment, while I can't remember exactly what I used in this video, looking at my CAB M+, it was probably one of 3 options:
      - a Celestion pre-baked IR;
      - the TwoNotes Brownyback with Dyn 57 + Rbn 121 mics;
      - the TwoNotes BoGreen with Dyn 7b + Dyn 57 mics.
      Hope this helps!

    👍 not overly sold on the oscilloscope: I'm thinking that it adds cost for no tangible benefit. But hey, it looks cool and if it floats yet boat, no worries.

      Yeah, it's mostly an eye-candy gimmick, but curiously it can also help visually troubleshoot signal problems in a busy pedalboard: if there's signal on the oscilloscope, you know your problem is most likely downstream. It also uses the screen to indicate which output mode the pedal is in (standard, preamp, or cab sim), so that's another function... we could most likely survive without the screen and use status LEDs, etc, but then it wouldn't look as cool 🤣

      I still love mine 😬 It wasn't cheap, but it's a lot of pedal for the money 😉

      The o-scope is a great troubleshooting tool. Noisy pedal? It will let you know. Bad patch cable? It’ll let you know as well. Wondering where to put the noise gate? Yep.

    I’ve been thinking about getting a preamp pedal for my cabM +. This one sounds good. Did you disable the cabm preamp and/or power amp for this demo?

    • @PedalPlatform
      @PedalPlatform  2 роки тому +2

      Yes, it's just the Copperhead in Preamp mode and the CAB M+ doing the speaker sim. 👍🏻

    I know this is an old video, but i am trying to make a direct pedalboard, with my own pedals and I wanted to know if you have an idea of how good this pedal would be in a live setting, just going direct with the two notes ir? Would it cut through? My gigs are not really that crowded, but I want good tone...

      Ive used the Silk Drive version with its own cab sim live twice and both sounded great (more natural than the other guys kemper imo) and cut through. Took all my drives and fuzz pedals like a champ.
      I have since then experimented pushing with seperately a compressor, eq pedal and also a Bbe sonic stomp mini which is what I've settled on lt just makes it sound like a real amp more through a monitor. You may find that the CAB M isn't needed, I gave up on IRs, they sounded harsh and like they were trying to pull out the tone so place for example an eq pedal in front to push freq and the nutube will smooth it out and clip exactly how you like. Go for it!!

    Parece que é uma distorção "arraçada" de fuzz. Não é bem o meu tipo de som mas boa review!

      it is actually more than a drive pedal, it is also a preamp.
