- With the South Dakota Symphony Live 2002. What a fabulous rendition of a fabulous song by a fabulous singer! Even though he doesn't hit the high notes like in the seventies anymore, this is still outstanding.
To quote Merle Haggard: "If there was anyone born with too much talent, it was Glen Campbell."
I am 66 years old .Glen was playing in my back ground of life. Heard his music but did not realise what amazing singer in the emotional way ,guitarist in the most quality way. As age grows on, you understand words and feelings . RIP Glen.
What a powerful comment
Tim, you sure got that right !! We are of same peer group, the 70’s heyday. I was wondering if when Glen did this song he already knew it was his beginning road trip of Alzheimer’s…. He has been gone nearly 6 years already, boy, how time slips away. I just watched Glen and Willie do “Ain’t it funny, how time slips away”. Glen’s adios tour, their duet is beautiful.
Me too. 66
You realize the old school guys were master craftsman..
I’m 78, Literally background, so multi talented. One of my favorite guitar players, amazing journey the road he
traveled to fame from the farm. Such a
like able fellow down to earth. I’m a fan.
😘🎸🎸🎸🎸🎸😎
He deserved a standing ovation for that performance.
Hi Mary💐💐
who the hell would downvote this masterpiece?
People with no class or taste
Some idiot.
I have never posted a public comment about anything or anyone until now. This guy is a Class Act and the younger musicians need to study HIStory..his demeanor, his work ethic and his manners. He is the most accomplished guitarist that has ever lived, in my opinion. He was always in a suit or dressed very nicely. He has dined with queens and kings and remained humble throughput his amazing, successful career. He also helped a lot of musicians to be recognized by the industry...(fickle lot as they are). God Speed Mr. Glen Travis Campbell!
When he reaches for another pick in his pocket you know greatness will follow
I agree. My heart starts beating faster in anticipation!
Must have been quite a night. The piano player had achieved lift off! I love to see real musicians performing live , the energy must have been transcendent. Thank you Glen, thank you Jimmy Webb and thank you to all those musicians.
I,m Mexican. For years this song was one of my favorites, for it's strengh melody, even though I din't understand the meaning of the words. Now that I understand them, it brings to me the sweet memories I have of that beautiful american girl I was in love with. For two years in México our incredible romace broke borders, languages and cultures, but she had to go back home in Alabama to follow with her career, and the distance is an unbeatable enemy of love. And after all the loves of my life......
This is a very hard song to perform without coming accross as corny. A great deal of the beauty of this song is it's orchestral complexity. This version is exquisitely arranged. I knew Glenn did a fair amount of studio work in this day for other artists before he got famous as a singer. That was quite a solo. This is an amazing rendition of the song!!!
I think God wanted him in heaven to sing and play for him.
After all the loves of my life... This line kills me
God was awakened when Glen Campbell died. Of this I am certain.
Glen sang this song many times live through the years of his career but here he perfected it his best in my opinion amazing!!
I agree wholeheartedly
Glen we will always love&admire you!
Agree 100 % great version. Unparalleled
If ever there was a reason for a standing ovation, this is it.
+William Schack I thought the exact same thing. Why wasn't everyone on their feet? I would have been.
I wondered what took the audience so long. I would have been on my feet at the last note!
Or as Norm Crosby would say" A standing ovulation!" Yes, audience was slow to respond.
Nicely said, copy that!!!😊
Great guitarist!
Oh wow! Musicians from all genres knew this man was the real deal and sought out to learn his skills on the guitar. He got a lot of respect from all over and remained humble. I got goose bumps when he got the standing ovation!
He was awesome, so talented, and Jimmy Webb was a great songwriter!
When he reaches in his pocket for guitar pick you know greatness is following.
Fook me he was good , don't think there was a song he couldn't nail , sadly missed , a true legend I grew up on him in my dad's car , miss em both .
Some things are good, and some things are great, but this is just pure brilliance. Thank you all
Glen is one of the greatest vocalists of all time and is singing one of the greatest songs of all time.
Song songwriter and singer
My beautiful Mother and I listened to this on the radio.
Bless you kid ... Many memories for my parents and step parents .. ❤️
It's a stunning thing when he breaks out on his Stratocaster against the background of the orchestra. He showcases the power of the instrument and the talent and energy of the very best guitarists in pop music.
ironpirites you said it all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a beast!
I always get excited when he pulls out his pick from his tux. I can't help it.
Every time I hear this song the tears flow down my face. Maybe it's because I lost my 49 year old son 3 years ago with melanoma and believe it or not he played the guitar like Glen Campbell. Yes, my son could play that guitar solo that Glen plays in the middle of this song. He also was humble just like Glen Campbell. What a talent, what a man of God during the last 25-30 years of his life. I'm waiting to get to hear you play again Glen in heaven with my son.
This is simply incredible. I agree with the comment below, " if there ever was a reason for a standing ovation, this is it."
I am a Brit but I genuinely loved this man for the joy he gave millions.
There are no words at all to even begin to describe this performance ...God Bless You Mr. Campbell !
The of the best pieces of music and songs ever performed to perfection.
Wow! What a performance! That’s what you call a professional at work. It’s so sad he had to leave us how he did.
Glen Campbell was so very very talented... Im sure that he is with Jesus and in the heavenly band!!
Agreed. Also every musician in that fine orchestra backing Glen. Agreed......he is surely missed.
Well ... He did know Jesus, before He was a superstar ... :-)
You are soooo right. Even though he was very popular, very talented and beloved, I still somehow think of him as underrated. That’s how good he was. I think it may have been because he was a crossover country/pop artist. Loved by everyone but claimed by no one. I loved him!
What does Jesus play?
@@robkcorbett cow bell
His guitar solo...knocks me out.
Outstanding. Glen Campbell was a National treasure. We are lucky to have the music he created and videos of him.
Hi Michele💐💐
That is probably the best performance of that song that I ever heard. I am a big Jimmy Webb fan and I love this song. Glen is a legend and a personal hero. In the 60's he was a much sought after guitar recording session guy. Whoever the A&R person was who put Glen and Jimmy together was a genius. They created one of the most prolific strings of hit songs ever. Glen shows his guitar skills are still there around 4:45. The orchestra was great.
I fully agree been a fan since 1961 ..... Glen Travis Campbell + Jimmy Layne
Webb --- PRICELESS TALENT.... I love them both .... Roger C.
yes
Agree 100%. His voice was never better.
@@rgwinslow I actually have to disagree. Listen to the video of Glen singing with the Boston Pops. I've listened to this many times, but tonight I noticed something different about his voice. He almost sounds like he is sick or something because I think he is singing it in a lower key just to hit some of those higher notes. In the video with the Pops, he goes up at about 6:40 and holds out one last "NOOOOOOO" and it is so much higher than here. He doesn't even attempt to do it falsetto here. However, I commented on that one that I'm guessing it was from the mid-late 70's because he looks so thin through the face, you can see his cheek bones, and his face has always been a little rounder, but back when he was doing drugs, it should have killed him, but thank God it didn't. I have speculations about it, but it doesn't change my love for him and his music-thanks to the great song writing skills of Jimmy Webb.
Is that Webb playing the piano, or just someone from the orchestra?
He died a happy man, full of love, family, friends children to carry on his legacy. Time to let him rest in peace
This is the most stirring and emotional version of this song..... It describes all the missed opportunities we've had in our lives and knowing we let them slip away, often unnoticed... R.I.P. dear Glen and I can hear you singing on the clouds and roads of gold in heaven.....
When Glenn Campbell walks through the Pearly Gates God's going to ask him to sing this song to Him. God creates using Music.
And God's gonna want to hear that guitar solo, too!
just might; e never knows what God has in store for us
JohnMichael Kessler that was so touching
A lovely thing to say about Mr. Campbell
so true & well said!!
Even with an entire rock band and symphony backing him up, I found myself wanting them all to stop playing so I could just hear Glenn Campbell sing and play his guitar. Simply beautiful.
Amen!
Who is listening to this in 2021? Richard Harris may have made this song big, but I think Glen Cambbell's version is far better. God bless you
Listening in 2021♥️
It's 2024...and I'm still listening. Been listening since I was 9 yrs. old. I'm 65 and I'm still here...
June 2024.
Thank you, Jimmy Webb, for writing this masterpiece!
The multitalented Glen Campbell… former studio musician for Wrecking Crew, great guitarist, Movie Star… still enjoy listening to his legacy of songs 😀
Never tire of this awesome glen
Goosebumps every time I watch this.
Who could down vote this? Perhaps you people should live a few more years before seeing this stunning performance...
Only brain dead people, no appreciation for great music, and talent!
They are trolls, just want a reaction!! Don't do it!
WHY??? do you bother commenting on the jerks???
This composition is truly tailor made for Glen . The Complicated chord progressions/ melodies etc only Glen can handle it . Soon I will be paying a Visit to Billstown , Arkansas to pay my respects to this hero of mine . He is truly the greatest of All American Country singers ! No doubts . Gogo Samy Iyer , Cochin, India
Mr. Campbell was pure talent. Outstanding. God bless him.
"There will be another song for me..." Glen you have delivered and we thank you for all the great performances. Love you now and always. (1936-2017)
Wow! Glen is like 66 yrs old here!! Amazing.. Bravo
he's now at least 80 years old!!
no, he is closer to 80!!
No, he was 81 now, and now he has passed away. May he rest in peace.
He's talking about 66 years old in the video.
I saw him on the farewell tour when he was 76...voice was still crystal clear...a true natural talent.
Absolutely amazing even in his middle sixties. He could outplay most other guitarists even here, and his styling is totally unique. His voice is still sensational here! He didn't sing the highest notes because he demanded perfection from himself!!! BRAVO!
One of the greatest songs by the master ever done.
Bravo.....I simply adore him.....there is no other like him......God bless him...❤️
to each his own this is america
blow me!...: )
It's just such fun to watch people perform beautiful stuff.
You know of anyone else who can sing and play like this at 66 years
of age ?
he truly is amazing!!
❤🙏 Glen Travis Campbell 1936-2017, rests in blissful eternal peace. ❤🙏
WOW! I came to this site just to hear Glen Campbell sing this song, only to be blown away by his guitarmanship (which is already generally acknowledged to be superb), the strong orchestral backing and Mr. Campbell's vocals, all which hammer this song out of the park! So much better than Richard Harris's original, IMHO..
Absolute stunning performance: “I will win the worship in your eyes and I will lose it”. What a powerful sentence lamenting love lost and sung with such emotion from Glen.
A great singer combined with a master songwriter to create magic.
Glen Campbell can sing any genre of music flawlessly. Fantastic.
I'm watching this with tears in my eyes. RIP, Mr. Campbell.
Who cares about a few high notes: he brought this song ALIVE
There was another singer born in the last 50 yrs. that sung this Masterpiece also, just as well. Her name is Donna Summer, one of the Greatest Voices of all time ! Glen is also the Man ! RIP Glen/ RIP Donna.
I get chills every time I hear him sing this song. Bless you Glen Campbell.
¹
Outstanding. I only watch this when I am alone since it brings me to tears sometimes.
He played that guitar like a boss
Pure Genius. There is nothing this man cannot do. Take care of yourself good buddy.
As Merle Haggard said, if God ever gave any one man too much talent, it was to Glen Campbell.
John Abrams he is THE BEST guitarist of all time....the other so-called "Guitar Gods" can't shine his shoes......and I am a musician...he leaves me speechless....God bless this great, talented man....
Man, can this guy sing, and play, and perform.
My favorite moment is around 4:00 when he reaches into his pocket and then starts poking through his hand to choose a new guitar pick. And he does this while he's singing without the slightest bother. It creates great drama... because you know he's going to start ripping it up soon. It's like "Here it comes!"
+cowsongs You're right on.......his command of the performance with his vocals and the tempo of the orchestration was building to a climax and I was thinking about his guitar....is he going to play or what?,... and then he reaches into his pocket and without the slightest hesitation he selects a pick and then I knew! The crowd's applause at the end shows that he is a master performer and showman. His talent, honed by years of performing is not likely to be matched in my lifetime.
wis yoo about Cummings
+Bill Johnson really?
+cowsongs And rip it up he does. I've often wondered what he'd have sounded like playing hard rock.
Amazing! I never knew he was this talented.
God Bless him now and thank God for all the years we did have him.
Brilliant, utterly brilliant.
This is my all-time favorite song. This is an amazing arrangement. I never realized Glen was so talented. He really shreds that guitar.
Seriously, right? I mean he's straight up shredding. That's fairly next level playing. Check out his solo from the 70s version, it's like... how have I slept on Glenn Campbell's guitar playing for this long?
Mine too. So beautiful in so many ways!
@@BenBenSings I didn't know anything about Glen until I saw the documentary about his final tour, "I'll Be Me". The music I heard there made me an instant fan, and his live performances like this are even better.
He did hit the High Note in this song,,and inspite of his illness ,,he has always hit the high note in his songs and guitar playing. Sad to see what has happened to this musical genius!
Such a clear voice, with a slight country twang, but a class act through and through. And he can sure pick a guitar. A lot of people don't know that about him. He has been on many albums as a session player, been part of the Beach Boys, had his own TV show...great singer, great guitarist and great performer. And I've never met him, but he seems to have such a great personality...such a class act this man is.
I was Glen Campbells FOH engineer for 2 tours in Australia in the early '90's.....loved every minute of every show. McArthur Park never made it on to the setlist though....disapointed
Having a deep personal connection with Alzheimer's, this touched me in a very special way... God bless you, Glen Campbell
Best version of this classic I have ever heard, he killed it!
God blessed him, all right. He gave the man Altzheimer's.
I am now battling this terrible disease ... still in it early stages but I know all to well what awaits me ... he will so deeply be missed.. one of a kind.
@@kdm222 may God be with you and your loved ones through this difficult journey.
I loved it when Glen Campbell was saying they were always wonderful songs and just done beautifully. I also think we should be thanking all the people that play the music behind him such as the orchestra in this particular video because without them, it just wouldn’t be a complete package. I think they were all wonderful, but thank you Glenn rest in peace.
I can't recall from start to finish a better performance. I can't recall.... ever. This is beyond anything I have seen.
I watched this video after the ACM Honors show that honored Jimmy Webb and Glen Campbell-I had heard the original version of this song on radio but had never heard Glen sing it-I was blown away and have played this video repeatedly since-still remember growing up my dad would listen to Glen constantly and I hated it-now I can appreciate his voice and emotion
he does a great job and I always loved Glenn but I wish you could listen to Justin Hayward sing this song. He hits those high notes you cannot believe
I have watched all of his 70's videos of this song, and this version I find much more soulful, when the orchestra gets quite and he stands at the microphone to sing the heart of the song, he sings it with much more feeling, than he did when he was younger.
You gotta live to understand life.
So awesome that this was recorded, to capture all that talent for all to see!
An absolute legend, thank god that his music will always be here for us and live on in UA-cam. RIP Glen..
Blistering guitar solo!!! the best interpreter of this song..... EVER
I have owned the DvD of this concert and watched it many times. I love it because it shows a time when Glen has made it all the way back from the depths and the demons that took him down in the 80's.
He is playing sold out shows and recording fantastic albums at this time, he has a happy family life and he is sharper than ever on the stage with his playing and his vocals.
Glen had a specific talent that shows here, in that he could take a somewhat sad and morose ballad and make it uplifting and still meaningful. That was his gift and he did it many times over his career with hits like "Gentle On My Mind", "Galveston" and many others.
A complete performer and a man who learned as he lived, he will always be remembered and appreciated.
I'd would always love to hear Glen's talents and music forever, now that would really be being in Heaven.
I have Been a fan of Glen Campbell for over forty years.
He is one of a kind and it is very sad to see him decline due to Alzheimer's disease. Peace to his family.
Beautiful and melancholy song of happy memories and sad parting… on par with the great Charles Aznavor and his ‘Yesterday, When I was young’🥲
Nice performance! Amazing guitar solo! RIP Mr Campbell.
I'm so happy to have his music to play over and over when he's just ha memory for those younger and disadvantaged. God bless this man who's struggled through addiction and now Alztheimer's which will ultimately take his mind and life. Yet, Glen Campbell's musical genius will live on through those of us who share it with others! My Dad left for Germany from Houston with my Mother crying and waving goodbye, so he holds a special place in my heart and in the heart's of countless Americans! Glen, what you can no longer remember, we'll never forget!
well said ann
What a wonderful comment!
this is the song that defines the MAN
Amen, brother.
"Amen"...wrote Norm G. unaware he was signed in under Stacy's account!
This song is one of the best ever,,I listen to it often in honor of my first wife who died of melanoma at the age of 24....No one ever played guitar like Glen,,sadly missed
Spectacular! I think this is a hard song to pull off live, and Glen nails it!
That is SOME guitar playing!!! He's a legend!!! Best version...dramatic and haunting at the same time!!
Yh. Me again. I keep listening to this in awe of Glens performance. What a guy. I wish I could have had half hour with him to chat.
Glen has no equal guitar or voice the best of the best!
This is the first time I,ve heard anyone else rather than Richard Harris sing this song. Brilliant! A real pro!
beatlenumber05 Andy Williams also did it with a full orchestra...it is great!!!! check it out...
Check out Donna Summer's, while you are at it...
beatlenumber05 Justin Hayward from The Moody Blues sang a nice version too!
The song was covered constantly in the years after it came out. Four Tops even did it.
Donna Summer had a good version!
This is so lovely. Love you, Glen!
The incomparable songwriting of Jimmy Webb, and Glen's soulful voice...mmm mmm good!
A wonderful singer, singing a wonderful song...and the man just happens to be a true GUITAR GOD!
Glen Campbell was a great musician. What a voice and he played a mean guitar.
wow, he was a lot more talented than I realized.
I sure miss this guy and his talent
This is the best performance of this I've seen. Glen Campbell, you are an absolute Legend!!!!!!
What a great artist and song,,,no one plays guitar better than this man did
wow, great performance.
+jbbnbsmith im 71 thanks to my wife caroline of 54 years in oct. i still worship her
Congratulations for 54 years, but I think you should use the term adore, because the only ones you should worship is our Heavenly Father and his son Jesus Christ. God bless brother, and may you have many more years with your wife.
+CashPresley32 you know thats true .
Roger Huff I have been a Christian my whole life of the denomination of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
What a talented and very smart man he was. And he was a fabulous guitarist and performer. It is a huge loss to the country music industry since he passed away. Every time I go to the Birmingham symphony hall I always remember him walking out onto that stage and performing. It's really tough for everyone who loved him and his music. RIP glen and thank you for your beautiful music and talent that I was able to listen to when my mother and father played it when I was a young boy. Your music will always be cherished I'm sure by many many people and you will never ever be forgotten 👤🎸🎤
When he sings "after all the loves of my life" around 3:04-3:09, he looks up and smiles at the audience, as if remembering all the fans and people he's played to throughout the years.
OH WOW. WHAT A performance.!! Glenn was a True Legend
Fantastic ! 👍🎙🎸🇺🇸
Glen is the best! What a great support system he has with his family.
I saw Glen three years ago in MS. I refuse to give up on him!
I have always loved this version from Glen Campbell the best . RIP . We sure do miss you . Fly high ever so high !
