It's cool how Film Brain is integrated into your show now, sharing his own commentary through editing, and you guys talk to him like he's right there. It adds such a cool dynamic!
I actually still have this movie on VHS somewhere. My mom presumably got it for us for Christmas because my sister was obsessed with Casper Meets Wendy, to the point my mom bought it for her on VHS because she was tired of renting it every other week from Blockbuster. I think I remember liking it. We watched it a million and a half times, and I still remember large parts of it. Also, love Ziggy getting off into misadventures in the background. I also recently acquired a new kitten, and every other minute he eats something he's not supposed to or climbs inside the couch and accidentally loses one of his toys in there.
It's weird because the ghosts almost look on point with the 1995 movie. (Hell, most of the 1995 movie's promotions used the Haunted Christmas designs and not the original movie's.)
I really love the trend of you and Phelous publishing your reviews back to back or on the same day. It feels like a nice, chill double feature when ever it happens.
The dad kinda looks like Girthmore from The Littlest Light on the Christmas Tree. He must have changed his name to Jollimore after a lightbulb taught him the true meaning of Christmas.
Oh yeah, I think it was, man! I wish I could've gotten some of that, it looked so delicious, yum! And they made it to promote the movie's release on DVD exclusively! It was a crazy marketing campaign, bro! But it worked and I like it!
Spooky & Pearl are supposed to be like 1920s/1930s mobsters. Hence the way they talk. So in the original cartoons there was more than one occasion where Casper was threatened with banishment if he didn't scare someone and he would end up accidentally scare his uncles and that would count.
I only saw the earliest cartoons where Casper lived at a cemetery. Y'know in the first episode Casper was -so depressed_ over no one wanting to be his friend he tried _committing suicide_ by getting run over by a train and _cried_ when _it didn’t work._ (Sarcasm) _Clearly_ the best character for a _fun, heartwarming, Christmas_ movie. _Am I right?_
One of the shorts has Casper cursed after being exposed to the public as a city hero that the court agreed to punish Casper by taking away his powers until he intentionally scares someone. This causes his friendship with his friends in the city to backfire after screwing everything up. And eventually gets his powers back after he scares a bunch of ghosts by disguising himself as a human ghost exterminator. 😅
I’m glad the important parts of this are getting focused on, like the adorableness of Casper the Ghost meeting Casper the Voice Actor and Randy Travis getting his flowers
I remember watching this a ton as a kid because I loved Casper so much. Havent seen it in 15+ years but man watching this review brought back a lot of good memories. I never saw A Spirited Beginning but for some reason I played the computer game a lot. Loved this little nostalgia trip!
OK I know you didn't ask for it but here is the explanation of the British idea of "pudding". First of all pudding is often what folks refer to as the sweet course, though typically we tend to think of steamed stodgy ones like sticky toffee, chocolate and Polka Dotted Richard ( I'm not saying its actual name because yes we laugh at how rude it sounds too). Christmas pudding (aka figgy pudding) is the one with all the fruits and being set on fire (traditionally people would hide a coin it for good luck but don't think that happens so much now.) And yes jelly is our version of Jello (Jello coming from a brand name we don't really have here.) Oh and also awesome funny video, love that we got a Bushwhacked reference in there, it warmed me like Ready Brek (another obscure British food reference.)
Casper's Haunted Christmas was a movie that would air on YTV in my neck of the woods. I never watched it in full, but I do remember the last line being "have a Scary Christmas and a Happy BOO Year!" I had forgotten that the movie had pop-culture jokes... and well-executed ones at that as well.
Honestly, it's probably the second best Casper movie after the original 1995 film. I would even say the ghosts' designs and animation almost manage to replicate the original's.
Sometimes people are still sad Christmas is over. Leave it to Phelous & Lupa to fix that. Thank you guys, I might have been one of those people still sad so thnx lmao
I adored this movie as a child. I have a distinct memory of me and my sister watching it together and when Casper said "Hey! Why did you do that?!" my mom marched in and turned off the TV demanding to know what had happened because she assumed we were fighting. 😂
Christmas ends so fast. It nice to see a video of over a Christmas. Man, we need to get Casper better scary influences to look up to for example, Freddy Krueger, Pinhead, Barney. Man, chills went down my spine typing that one. :P Another lovely videos. I am looking forward what you guys are going to post on Valentine's Day.
I enjoyed Casper Meets Wendy too. I must have watched it a lot as a kid because I recently rewatched part of it and I remembered a lot of the lines lol
My household is traditional so Christmas isn't over (that mostly means the decorations and tree still remain) till the day after Candlemass Day (February 2nd), americans may more commonly know it as Groundhog day, I guess. Anyway I'm very happy about this late Christmas Special and find it extrordinary time appropriate. On that note I definitely wouldn't mind another Halloween Special next time, for it's really fun.
How to solve this movie in 5 minutes. "Casper, you need to scare at least one person." "Okie Dokie. I'll just scare a bad person. Maybe a burglar or a mugger."
I totally forgot about Casper: A Spiroted Beginning, I used to watch that all the time when I was about 5. I thought A Spirited Beginning was THE Casper movie. Many years later when I first saw the Christina Ricci movie I was very confused
Nah... They have "instant" custard (from powder) that is nearly indistinguishable from instant Jell-O pudding. To put it very mildly, the U.K.'s food sophistication level is, at best, about on par with ours. The rest of Europe looks down their collective nose at U.K. and U.S.A. about equally. (The fried candy bar was invented in Scotland. Their cuisine is markedly below ours.)
I remember this movie being one of the previews on a beloved vhs and how confused it made me (pretty sure the shower scene was part of it too). I’m pleased to see it’s somehow even more wild (and Jimmy neutron-looking) than the preview implied
I knew just enough about British English to realize your editor was confused when they said "jello-type pudding" is called "jelly" - that's what they call jello. I found this on the ELL Stack Exchange. "I'm a Brit that's spent a number of years in the US. There's no direct analogue. But, if you want to describe it, remember, context is everything. Just as dessert is the name of the 'sweet course of a meal' in the US, you can get things with the name dessert in them and not be confused. Likewise with pudding. Plus, in British English pudding isn't even a generic name for 'sweet things' in all contexts (because you'll be really surprised when you take a bite of steak+kidney pudding) but is actually a reference to a shape, specifically the 'pudding bowl' (and hence leading to the name 'pudding bowl haircut') Just call it what it is, 'chocolate pudding'. Anyone who knows what it is, will know, and anyone who doesn't, won't- whatever the name."
Phelous has a black & red Santa hat like I have! I've had mine many years & back when it was only available at Target in limited numbers. I used to get offered a lot of $ for it...but I never sold 😅
Frankly to me Christmas doesn't end til spring. I'm all for more stuff! Awww Ziggy! Cute baby! I feel like there's a Casper Iceberg somewhere and that this is still not going underneath the surface. I'm taking this episode as both a belated Christmas and belated birthday present.
I think you should do all of the low budget Casper movies. Honestly, I kind of wish you did The Spirited Beginning. This was also a good choice, though.
Speaking of A Christmas Carol in the Casper cartoon from the 90's in an episode titled A Christmas Peril the Ghostly Trio take on the duties of the Ghosts of Christmas themselves who just want a holiday on Christmas because they've been working overtime. The fate of the Scrooge in this episode is for Scrooge to become the fourth member of the trio and ironically enough the boss's toy factory employees don't believe his change of heart so he is carted off to jail or a padded cell cannot remember which exactly. Also Casper's verison of Dickens Ghost of Christmas Future in that episode is imagined as an alien which I think is neat
I once got made fun of by my classmates in the UK for calling a jelly donut... a... jelly donut. They thought I meant it was full of jello. So I asked all of them to raise their hands if their country had landed on the moon.
An old VHS I used to have had a trailer for this thing. I was mildly curious as a kid but never bothered going out of my way to find it. Hearing you guys talk about it and watching clips brings up vague memories of watching it on Cartoon Network once, but I can’t really be sure.

I'm so excited!
Thats called video editing. Its the thing UA-cam doesnt reward anymore.
In all these _Casper_ projects, I never understood why Casper never met the ghosts halfway and scared people like robbers, kidnappers and mob members.
I actually still have this movie on VHS somewhere. The human character designs in this special kinda give me Littlest Light on the Christmas Tree flashbacks.

Allison and Phelan gave us an early Christmas gift! And it isn't even Christmas in July
I'm gonna assume the Casper-themed Baskin Robbins ice cream was based on Fatso's "figgy pudding" until it is demonstrated otherwise.

The three of you are spoiling us with such great content this month alone.
It's a shame that Saban didn't think about creating an Avengers style film for his HARVEY CINEMATIC UNIVERSE.
Christmas isn't over until the eggnog runs out and I still have half a carton that's good till mid-Febuary. Let's go!

Since Christmas is over, Ziggy gets a free pass to be naughty without the consequence of ending up on the naughty list.
Or so she thinks.
This was one of those movies we'd leave on in the background while talking and stuff. One night I was paying attention to it and it was just bonkers.

I actually remember watching this, and all I remember from it are the parents being utterly coked out the whole film. I refuse not to believe that.
I watched this on TV as a child. All I remembered was Casper being mistaken as a snowman and wondering why ghosts needed to eat.
Wow I used to have the 3 Saban movies on VHS as a kid and totally remember Haunted Christmas being live action.
Man I haven’t thought about that movie in years I’m going to add it to my Christmas movie playlist for next year!
This review made me remember that I’ve seen this movie before!!!
This movie aired on cartoon network when I was a kid. I rewatched this Christmas and it's exactly as cheap as I remembered
