Holy moly! I bought my 2011 4runner limited off of a small cash car lot at the end of February 2023. It has needed a few normal wear and tear items for a vehicle with almost 250k miles. My friend who has a limited trim Highlander has remote start and figured that my limited 4runner also had it, but we could not get it to work. I tried these instructions on this video one time and got it to work on the first time here at the end of July 2023! This absolutely does work! Thank you, Jeff!

so here's my question LOL I do too. Obviously the doors are locked when it starts. I then hit the unlock and the engine turns off. Is it the truck? or am I doing something wrong? or is it suppose to shut off? Thx

Holy smokes. THANK YOU!!! I tried this thinking, "C'mon, this isn't gonna work." The first time it didn't, i did the steps again and saw the extra flashing of the marker lights. I immediately jumped up to open the house door to hear the engine running! 100% worked on my 2022 sr5 limited with the basic key fobs they gave me. Do you accept cashapp to say thank you??

Hey my 2019 Camry flashes the lights like it wants to start and even makes a noice towards the back. The interior also turns on and everything like the cars on but it isn’t

I found out by accident two days ago that my 2020 tundra also has this feature. I’ll have to check the 2021 4 runner now

It makes absolutely no sense that Toyota would have spent the money on installing a remote start into the 2020 4Runners and not tell people about it. I just looked at the limited and it does not mention anything about having a remote start but the 4runner you had in the video obviously had it. I would assume that the remote start would be in the TRD line, limited as well as the SR5 Premium because they all have keyless entry and push button start.
Does this work on the 2020 TRD Premium too?

@@avakbagiryants823 it shuts off the engine but thats ok..im in canada and during winter i can turn on the feature to keep the suv warm . I'll just restart the suv again.

I try with my Trd off-road 😅 The only thing that it does is just start blinking. The lights but doesn't start so I think my doesn't have the remote start😢😢😢

Please don't get the oem remote start on 4runner. Go with after market one like viper. The oem turn off engine when you open the door.

It worked for a short time on my 2019 Avalon, then Toyota wanted me to pay a monthly fee for it.
funlovingJohn i bet it on was on the remote start application..? Cause if it’s built into the vehicle, likes these two then that’s for life and it’s already included on the purchase of the vehicle.
A remote start comes standard in most vehicles. This is not cutting edge technology.

How do I use the key fob through Remote Connect to start my Toyota?
1. Press the LOCK button on the remote.
2. Press the LOCK button a second time within 1 second.
3. Press the LOCK button again, this time holding it for 3 seconds. The engine will start.
Note: Key Fob Remote Start will not function if Connected Services are waived.

You dont have to hold it,you can push 3 times and it will start

Fazed and Amused My understanding is anything with a smart key. So that would include the SR5 Premium and the Off Road Premium as well.

SouloOnTheBeat Yep, I read online that the engine turning off is by design, I believe it’s a safety feature. I don’t remember the details but a quick search should find it.
@@mikemasonx sounds like a safety feature just incase someone jumps in your car who shouldn't be there

I'll never understand that. Especially with smart key tech. Just extra wear and tear on the starter. Kinda like that auto start/ stop crap some companies are fielding.
@@spacebear49 it's like some of the newer cars shut off if you are stopped in traffic. Try spending an hour in rush hour traffic on the highway and have the engine shutting off every minute. Looks like the companies that make starters had a deal with the manufactor. Fortunately the 2020 4Runner does not have that.
@@boboliver3054 been there! At least you can usually turn that function off. But remote starts have been this way for a while.
@@spacebear49 Cars with that auto start/stop have upgraded starters and sometimes a second battery or upgraded primary battery to deal with the extra wear and tear. The lifetime of the battery and starter is about the same as cars without that feature. But really, the technology results in longer lifetime for your engine, water pump, etc., better mileage, lower emissions and less pollution in your city/town. Also, idling for a long time, such as in stop and go traffic, can be worse for your engine and battery since the alternator isn't as efficient at low rpms, the water pump doesn't circulate as much coolant as at higher rpms, the radiator doesn't cool as efficiently and the oil doesn't circulate as quickly. So the start/stop feature, though annoying, is a pretty good piece of technology. And really, you can turn the feature off. So you don't really have anything to complain about.
My 2014 4Runner trail also remote starter...... nothing new here
in my city, there are a lot of Toyota's (many 2020's) being stolen by thieves using receivers picking up the signal (there's more to it than that, but that's the gist). Not good...
Mine works. Push lock 1 time then push fast on unlock button 2x. If you try to open with your hand it’s lock unless you unlock it with key fob

Yes, however if it does not work per the manual your dealer has to program it in. Don’t allow them to charge you either as it should already be enabled.

But I also found another form that said TRD ORP doesn’t have it. If I had known this I might have gotten a Pro.

Apparently only the ones with push button ignition. If the key goes into the steering column to start, i don't think this works.
