Fire Drills is such a powerful song. It makes me think and also makes me want to do better.
Ian Martin Allison - amazing guest! Thoroughly enjoyed that. Excellent work
😍 Cheers!!
So cool to see Ian here
That was a great show and so much info given and loved how you guys just listened and soaked in the info. Also my Star Wars pick would be chewie 😂
Another excellent podcast! Thank you. Keep up the great work ❤
Great guest, great podcast!
Great show! I love all the attention bass has been getting recently. I started on, and have been playing bass since 1993. It felt like back then there was the Flea VHS and few other "cool" bass books, but mostly boring scale books. No one talked about bass and it was usually an instrument the out of luck guitarist got stuck with. Thankfully it's finally becoming the superstar it should be. IMA is such a great guest. One of the best dudes ever. Never been a pedal guy, but I picked up an HX Stomp and I got his Presets. They are amazing. Inspired me to explore the HX so much more than I would have.
It’s such an exciting instrument that is sadly overlooked so much, still.
Thank-you! We ❤️ IMA
Fun fact... Duff was a drummer by trade, that played a bit of hobby guitar. He got an audition as GnR'S drummer,
but they had already chosen and "said do you play anything else"??? Answering with, bit of guitar!! Great we need a bass player..
So he went off a bought bass, and the rest is history🤘
Ian if you see this comment. I would 1000% sign up for a course on your process when building stomp patches
Enjoyed that one gents, another great guest, keep it up 👍🏻
Thanks so much!
It's about who is willing to put their own rep on the line by telling others that they know you that makes the whole difference. Make a good enough impression that they are secure enough that you won't screw it up and make their referrals & rep take a hit in the eyes of the others.
Chewbacca would be the bass player in the band. Big guy holding down the fort! Quiet spoken but loud when he needs to be!
Yeah! Jason Newsted! He would be great to have on your show! Such a great versatile player!! Underrated, though.
Or get Lee Sklar or Tony Levin: they’ve got many a story to tell...
Or Carol Kaye, Tina Weymouth or Michael Anthony!
Or Cliff Williams, Anthony Jackson or Will Lee!
Me’shell Ndegeocello! Guy Pratt (who should write more freekin’ books!)
About Guy, and he should read this: some young players think he’s the girl in Madonna’s Like a Prayer song or one of the girly backing singers with Pink Floyd in the late ‘80’s because he had that beautiful hair and a pink bass... or a beautiful bass and the pink hair?
Time to set things straight..., in a good way.
For a start: get Guy! Everybody needs some knowledge and a good laugh (Ian did a good job also, so more of that, please!!).
🖖
When Tony Levin joined King Crimson, he was not able to play all of John Wetton’s basslines (and John was singing those songs too...)! He still isn’t. Does that make him a bad bassist?
Guess not...
Imagine Queen (or even Van Halen, U2 or Radiohead) had to make it with Jaco on bass... That would’ve been a bad thing! Never would’ve worked! Uhhhh! They might’ve gone with Charles Mingus! Or Herbie Flowers, or Dee Murray (he certainly could do the Queen stuff..., 😉).
So, what is a good bassplayer than?
🖖
Great show as always! What was the HX Stomp housing that Ian was talking about @ 1:40:35?
Thank-you! Hmm I’ll try and find the link for you
