Nominate which arc we should do next or vote with a thumbs up if the one you want is already listed. Likely we will only be doing two more of these (to round out the top ten) so choose wisely!

The clone wars had 3 endings:
    The bittersweet ending: Ahsoka leaves.
The ominous ending: Yoda prepares for the future
The gray ending: Ahsoka and Rex survive.

This arc was fantastic for two reasons:
    1. We saw Yoda in a vulnerable position emotionally with the dark side manifesting itself trying to engage him.
    2. The Wills showing him how to become even more in tune with the force and realize he has more work to do even with the Council and the Republic falling apart.

Palpatine was great in this arc. Him using Sith magic, speaking in the Sith language and mocking Yoda. I like it when the Sith get explored more. And if you’re asking me the Sith are more interesting then the Jedi.

I don't know if this has been suggested before. But i would like to see a poll on the complete. Darth Mual arc, starting with Phantom Mence, through Clone Wars and Solo, in to Rebels. Clearly one of the most inclusive, detailed, and arguably saddest arcs.
A true show of a Dark Sider who embraced the Dark Side and the ultimate cost at the end of that twisted and tortured life.
An Arc that could actually rival that of Anakin's.

It was nice to hear Liam Neeson voicing Qui Gon Jinn in TCW. Yoda's dark side was so creepy. One of the best parts about this arc is that it foreshadows the Jedi purge and how it will eventually come true in a very scary way. Then one of the force priestess show's Yoda the future that there is another Skywalker and the screen turns white and you hear Luke and Leia crying as babies and Darth Vaders breathing sound in the background

Yoda realized that he had use the Jedi way and accept the outcome not try to impose his will to fix what he saw in the vision for short term "saving the people he cared about". That was what Anakin did with disastrous results.

    • @mr.safensound4238
      @mr.safensound4238 4 роки тому +2

Anakin's failure was down to his 'fear of loss'. If he was truly wise he would have 'fixed himself', not his 'visions'. Instead of trying to alter an uncertain course of events, to 'prevent the ones he loved from dying', he should have prepared himself mentally to 'let go of all that he feared to lose'.
In other words, to come to terms with the possibility of sudden death happening to each or any one of those lives he cares about, Padme, his unborn twins, Obi-Wan or even Yoda. It's ironic that they fought the Clone Wars together and were all in constant, ever present danger of death. So you'd think he'd have become extremely well prepared for it!
Yet despite all his Jedi training and powers Anakin still felt he would not at all cope if he lost his wife. And so he wrongly concluded the best way of addressing this major weakness was to stop it ever happening! (He became delusional) He chose to learn from a Sith Lord abilities some consider 'unnatural'. The 'Dark Side' of the Force...and we see the result.
Jean de la Fontaine said "A person often meets his destiny on the road he took to avoid it".

  • @marcharkness6101
    @marcharkness6101 4 роки тому +10

Why didn't Yoda stop 'Order 66'? That's the wrong question. The RIGHT question is HOW would he have gone about stopping it. Remember the words of an equally wise Ancient Green Master: "One often meets one's destiny on the road he takes to avoid it. Remember that some of the Council thought Yoda was starting to lose it anyway. I'm sure he was trying to do what he could to steer away from disaster but his options were limited. Especially since while he had been given a look at the future, it was hardly a complete picture with diagrams on who was doing what, why, and how In that situation, he can only do what he can as the person he is.
Of course, this is not to say that nothing changed as a result of his visions. Has anyone considered that this might have been partly why he was able to react in time to save his own life during Order 66? So many Jedi Masters walked right into the trap without any apparent inkling. And if Yoda dies during Order 66, then all is lost.

This has nothing to do with the Clone Wars series, but I am interested to learn who was behind the Bounty Hunters/Mercinaries, well they were essentially baby sitters that were supposed to be protecting the Child in the first episode of the Mandalorian series.
My thought is somehow Ahsoka found the child and she hired them to protect the child until he was ready to train or until he could talk anyway.

My favorite part of this arc is meeting the Whills. The concept of the force is so vast and the characters we have seen only understand so little. So seeing these beings that transcend conventional form/ability was an amazing window to see how much larger the force truly is. Qui gon even talked about how obi wan had much to learn in the ways of the living force, and this revelation of the Whills is the only canon expansion into that territory.

-Did Obi Wan leave Tatooine at some point to learn about it?
-Leia didn't even complete her Jedi trainings how she manage to do it?

This makes me wonder one thing: Do you think Anakin's dream about Padme dying in childbirth was due to manipulation of his Force visions by Palpatine, and, if so, does that affect the moral weight of the choices he faced on which his decision was influenced by that dream?

    • @mr.safensound4238
      @mr.safensound4238 4 роки тому +4

Thor puts it as a stark choice for Anakin; either save the one he loves (Padme), OR let her go and defeat the Sith. But Thor forgets one thing. This was never really the choice, since Palpatine could not save Padme. More cruicially, Anakin should not have been looking for the power to 'avoid death' in the first place. The Jedi are trained to accept 'death' as being natural and inevitable, as 'the way of the Force'.
Anakin's failure was in his 'fear of loss', essentially his inability to accept death. Hence he sought out the 'power to keep the ones he loved from dying'. He allowed his fear of 'Death' to dominate his destiny, with his new Master, Darth Sidious designed by Lucas to look exactly like 'Death' himself.
Accepting death as being 'natural' is a major theme in Star Wars. It has to happen at a set time, and it needs no other reasons, medical or otherwise. In the real world people often create 'reasons' to explain death, as a way of coming to terms with it. And yet two people suffering the exact same illness at the exact same age, can lead to one surviving it, and other one to die.
Sidious was not completely lying to Vader when he said 'in your anger you killed her'. We see the literal effect of Anakin's anger on Padme and how it 'breaks her heart'. Yet it was Palpatine's teachings that lead Anakin to that point. Lucas echoes Shakespeare, with the tragedies of Macbeth and Othello, both of whom were tricked into killing the ones that they loved.
Anakin's nightmares were due to his deep insecurities, he's on the brink of fatherhood, and of realising a true family, and a sense of real belonging. But he went about it entirely the wrong way, through secrecy and deceit. Hence he now worries that somehow, someone will try to take this all away. The way the Tuskens had taken his mother away. It was the same trap that had befallen Shakespeare's Macbeth. Having deceived everyone to become King, he was constantly plagued by the fear of being discovered and of losing it all.
It wasn't the choice to 'love' that let Anakin fail. The Jedi are encouraged to love. He had no real choice nor fault in that. But to then act on his worst 'fears', instead of learning to overcome them, this becomes Anakin's biggest mistake. When he chose the Dark Side, he was giving in completely to his worst fears.
So when Padme dies as a result of a broken heart, as Yoda puts it, this was 'the way of the Force'. Padme had no known 'medical' cause of death, but neither did Obi-Wan nor did Yoda before her. And accepting death is about understanding that death itself has a purpose. It is a process, a journey from one world into another. That there is something beyond the 'material' existence:
"Luminous beings are we, not this crude matter." Yoda -ESB.
"We are part of the Force because we generate the power that makes the Force live. When we die, we become part of that Force, so we never really die; we continue as part of the Force."
-George Lucas during a production meeting for The Empire Strikes Back

There's actually a theory that I like about the force priestesses telling Yoda about Order 66, the death of the Jedi, and the birth of Luke Skywalker.
The theory goes something like this: the force priestesses give Yoda visions of the death of the Jedi and the birth of Luke Skywalker, showing him that it is the will of the force that the Jedi will lose this battle in order to win the war.
This explains why didn't do more to prevent order 66.

@@bloodysimile4893 the 'will of the Force' is just another way of referring to the natural order and purpose of all things. Kreia is a 'nihilist' however.
"Nihilism is the belief that all values are baseless and that nothing can be known or communicated. It is often associated with extreme pessimism and a radical skepticism that condemns existence. A true nihilist would believe in nothing, have no loyalties, and no purpose other than, perhaps, an impulse to destroy."

      @@mr.safensound4238 Not necessarily true.
Keria reason on hating the force because the Force will influence people toward a certain destiny, a certain outcome on maintaining a "cycle" and certain order, despite on no many what an individual is choosing to do. Her goal is to let people be free from the influence of the force so individuals have true control over their own destiny.
During the prequel and OT era, individuals still have free will to make their own choice, and choice to serve the force if they wish. Ultimately, her ideal and beliefs are proven right because of the sequel era that the force was playing in the affair of the galaxy. And the cycle of war will continue between the dark and light, no matter how individuals try to change it.
Keria recognize were she stand and limited reach she has in the galaxy, restricted as a mentor but make people question their action.

    • @mr.safensound4238
      @mr.safensound4238 4 роки тому +1

@@bloodysimile4893 thanks I'm familiar with Kriea's philosophy. And you failed to prove that she's not a nihilist. Regardless of her so-called 'good intentions', the wish to destroy the Force that binds the whole galaxy and connects all living things is pure nihilism.
Besides she's not canon, she's from a 'Bioware' game, it's just fan-fiction. As for the Sequel Trilogy films, yes they are also nihilistic. They set about destroying and deconstructing everything achieved in the OT, including the three main legacy characters, Han, Luke and Leia. Then in TLJ Luke himself wants the 'Jedi to end', and Yoda reappeared after years of absence just to help him destroy the ancient 'Jedi Tree'.
And in Rise of Skywalker Ben dies by sacrificing himself to save Rey. It’s clear our original trilogy heroes believed in his capacity for good, since all three died in service of his redemption-at least from a story perspective. But Ben’s death feels like a strange way of paying tribute to Han, Luke, and Leia. They all die so Ben can do a good thing and die, too. Is death really the only path to betterment in Star Wars? A nihilistic ending for the Skywalker family.
Worth noting here that nihilism is usually reserved for big bad villains rather than the heroes. There's countless examples, Magneto from X-men, who wants to destroy all humans. Thanos, who destroyed all the superheroes and half the universe for the sake of ending future conflicts. There's Ra's Al Ghul, and Bane, and also The Joker, from Batman, who each think there's no right and wrong and are happy for everything to burn.

    • @bloodysimile4893
      @bloodysimile4893 4 роки тому +1

Wasn't try to disprove she nihilist, just discuss her POV of the force and its influence on the galaxy.
From what I gather of George Lucas's intention of the force, a symbiotic energy field that can guide people but also be controlled by force-users. Free will still belong to the individual and not being a guide to an ultimate endgame. That the Sith was cancer to the force to try controlling it rather than respecting it. That the force in balance is being the absence of those trying to control the force to their will. This outlook by Lucas disproof Keria's outlook on the force.
Of course, the force is more look as the concept of Yin and Yang/ light vs dark work to maintain a level of balance. KOTOR 2 and Clone Wars Mortis arc explores this but was solidified in the Disney era.
Ultimately the force and "canon" is whatever the writer makes it out to be. To each their own at this point for Star Wars lore.
In any care, had fun discussing this and share a different point of view since it is hard to know what the other thinking through the comment section.

Thanks for the perspectives. I now would quantify this arc in Yoda's short (but definitive) question to Anakin in the Jedi Temple garden, "What about what we know not hmm?"
The grandmaster over 10,000 Jedi, even though he had mislead them, was still open to the will of the force. That being said. The only way he could deal with what he learned was to accept it and allow it to happen. It was the will of the force that the Jedi should end. There are more thoughts to that but they all lead to this... Quigon, in Master and Apprentice, learned that the prophesies were true and THE KEY was to accept them and not try to change the outcome. Which is what Anakin tried to do regarding his (misinterpreted) dream about Padme. (And what led others who studied the prophesies to the dark side.
So why didn't Yoda try to stop Order 66? We don't truly know. But the ultimate explanation is he accepted the will of the force. (Also recognizing that one's perception of what they see does not mean it will turn out as perceived. (Anakin)
That's why Quigon's true reason for not being on the council was incredibly awesome, mature, and likely why he was chosen to maintain his personality after death. (Must reference Master and Apprentice)

Did Yoda actually learn the truth about Order 66 in this arc, or did he see only snippets of a possible future that he could not understand? Because if it's the first then I would rate this arc lower. I don't buy the "test" defence, because if it were a test then Yoda "passing" it by failing to take action and accepting the will of the Force seems a weak justification, or at least scant consolation to the trillions who would have died under the Empire.
I'm all for the theory that the Jedi had lost their way. Arcs like Ahsoka's walkabout, Ahsoka leaving the Jedi, Undercover Obi-Wan etc continue to confirm that they had got caught up in politics and in war (edit: and in forgetting their duty to the people, which is why the Walkabout arc is important even if it's not brilliant). I'm not so sure that I'd accept that the Jedi find their way again by allowing evil to dominate, for a while at least.
Edit: On the other hand, if it's a vision of a *possible* future: "there can be many outcomes", as Qui-Gon says, then it isn't that he has seen Order 66 per se, so much as one outcome that maybe he thought he had more time to avert. The vision of Jedi fighting clones reminds me a little of the Jedi charge at Geonosis, so maybe he interpreted it as a corruption of that, or some such.
All the same, I think it would have been strengthened if instead of specific visions of the future, he saw something much closer to, I don't know -- maybe Iron Man's "vision" in Age of Ultron? That turns out not to be of a specific future at all, but a "false vision" that may well echo would *could* happen, but never actually does. So show something like the Jedi falling around him, attacked by a never-seen foe. Not the Clones, not half of Palpatine's face -- just the death.
Edit 2: I'm warming to my theme, now. Also, I guess you could compare to Luke's vision in Empire, where he "sees" that Vader is himself, which I've always seen as a foreshadowing of Vader being his father (I'm sure this isn't an original thought). But the point is that he doesn't see some unknown face that happens to vaguely resemble his, and might make him think "wait, is Vader related to me?" -- but some half-truth, some metaphor. A vision of the *exact* truth, even snippets of it, goes against that, I feel. The audience knows what is coming anyway, so show those within the Universe something close enough to it and we could fill in the gaps. Dead Jedi would make the point better than seeing how they died.

The arc is interesting and mysterious and damn i am starting to be more and more confused about the fact that in many ways The Phantom Menace and The Clone Wars really are the actual soul of Star Wars, and like 80% or even more fans don't even know that.. I know i know, the point is that Star Wars is what everyone wants it to be, to someone it is Luke Han and Leia, someone thinks it's Rey, someone thinks it's Vader, Empire and so on. But if we just think the impact of those to the whole SW story, it's incredibly important. I wish someday people will get out from the Original Trilogy bubble, and give this ''new era'' SW (i don't mean the Sequels) at least a fair chance.

The way I see the vision of the dark side winning is that. Yoda knows that visions of the future are dangerous things. How does he know what causes it? If he tries to actively fight against what he saw coming could that be the cause or lead to something worse. So I don’t find that part to confusing or why Yoda didn’t do anything to stop it.

What do you mean it's not a great explanation? It's a brilliant explanation!
If Yoda did not have the patience to wait out a futile war, how could he ever have the patience to learn to become a force ghost?
If Yoda was shown the future, and then did something to alter it, truly, yoda would not be worthy of becoming a force ghost. The test will have failed.
    It's a brilliant explanation.

So ot was defiantly an arc that caused me some surprise even though i had heard of it prior to watching the series although i had avoided most spoilers.
To say i did not hate it would be understating how good the episode was i do still wonder if the clone wars was the right show to add that theme into but the way they did it as mentioned leaving more questions and bringing back qui gon was a great touch.
These themes might have been better fit for rebels with kanan teaching ezra in this kind of style about the force but i am happy the arc exists and how it was done.

I was incredibly disappointed a vision of plagueis never showed up in a star wars arc about immortality. I think that would hsve made for a more interesting meta physical battle than that last episode but thats just me, all and all this was very interesting look into how the force works and dark yoda always had some interesting implications!

@Darth Cameron there will never be a Sequel Trilogy though. Only the Disney Trilogy.
And if they do end up making a High Republic Trilogy we will likely call it the HRT or something along those lines. Even though it won't likely connect to the Skywalker story in anyway.

To be fair, qui gon told yoda to not tell anyone about this journey so I think that’s why yoda didn’t tell anyone about order 66 and even then, he didn’t know that it was because of the inhibitor chips and he didn’t know that sidious was palpatine.

I just wanted to explain why I, and probably many of us who watched the original movies, disliked the idea of midichlorians so much is it meant I couldn’t become a Jedi. Yes, I was in my twenties, and yes I knew I’d never actually become a Jedi. However, the kid in me that thought I could have this powerful connection to the universe now was just a regular, ordinary sack of meat. The force was a magic that Lucas, the one who gave it, ripped it from right under me feet. Bastard!

This arc is not only a pivotal moment for Yoda, but for ALL OF STAR WARS. Yoda learns so much about the force, but more importantly, he learns the nature of the Sith, and how futile their achievements are in the grand scheme of the galaxy and The Force. The Sith are so selfish that they only care about what they can conquer and achieve in this life. They are blinded by the now and thus cant never see the path into the after. But through the help of Qui Gon Jinn, Yoda has been shown this path, the path to live on forever in the force. The Sith can kill all the jedi and rule for 100, 1000, or even a million years. but in the end they will die and fade away into the force. like empires fade away into history, so will be forgotten all their achievements. But not the Jedi, and not Yoda. They will can live on, and continue the fight. They just beat the Sith forever.

Cool. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who had an issue with Yoda basically learning about Order 66 and doing nothing to stop. I still enjoyed this arc, although there are many others I like a lot more, but that was an issue I had, especially with how season 6 opened with an arc all about Fves learning the truth and trying to stop it to save the galaxy but failing, and then we end the season with an arc that has Yoda learn the truth but do nothing to stop it, which kind of feels like an insult to Fives after everything he went through.

When it comes to the Netflix "Final Season" of Clone Wars, I can't help but think of this bit from "The Warp Zone" (pay close attention to what 'Bob Netflix' says about their final season ^_^)
    ua-cam.com/video/pxqZbb6CdX0/v-deo.html
I agree with 'Bob', though. Back when I thought that we would get no more Clone Wars, this was a good 'thematic ending' to the series (although I really wanted to see the show deal with 'Order 66', which we finally got in a way with the true Final Season).

Something I miss from the old EU is Sith spirits. While it is continuing after death, it’s not the true immortality the Sith crave, and is more of a curse than anything else. It would’ve been a great addition to the story arc to have actual spirits of the Sith show what happens if Yoda doesn’t succeed fully.

@@goodmind4940 I actually liked Palpy's survival in Dark Empire. It made sense and again wasn't the immortality or even second chance at life Sidious wanted. If it's done well it really adds to the paradox of the Sith's goal, it just needs to be done really well

I'm not really surprised at where this falls in the ranking, though when all but one arc are ranked at A tier, does it really matter that much? And that one that's ranked B tier - the movie - should be ranked even lower, in my opinion. Oh, well.
Anyway, I really liked this arc, but it was one of those weird and confusing ones that you probably either love or hate. It does kind of go down a bit for me because, it may have when it came out, but it no longer quite feels like it jives with the future we got. And that's not really the fault of the episodes. It's the fault of things that came after, specifically the sequel trilogy. But, their ability to ruin things outside of themselves is far and wide and not to be underestimated.

I still don’t think that Ahsoka’s arc should’ve been summed up in just when she left. Her arc lasted the entire series and even afterwards in other shows and some to come. This brings me to the biggest problem that I had with the Clone Wars; Anakin and Obi-Wan had pretty much zero growth where Ahsoka seemed to be the main character that went through the most growth. However wasn’t the Clone Wars supposed to be about Anakin and Obi-Wan primarily, and Anakin’s journey to becoming a Sith? The series left me confused and really desiring some clarity. I know that a lot of people love this show, and while I have nothing against Ahsoka (actually I really enjoyed her arc), this series seems to have missed the target for me.

For me, Yoda was showed that the Jedi will fall, but he still tried to stop it. But when order 66 was actived, he felt all the jedi dying and Sidius won, the battle was over. He couldnt do anything but to follow the destiny and go to exile, he failed, but there´s still hope for the jedi. If he attacked again, the jedi will be over.........
......And then came the sequels to ruin this

  • @willford7499

Isn't it implied or at least suggested that we infer Yoda did not act upon something he saw in a vision because that would have been to act like a sith, trying to control the future to suit the way he would prefer it to be? So Yoda could not have done anything about order 66 without setting onto the path of becoming that red eyed version of himself he encountered?
