Also for some kinds of video, Resolve is great for editorial. For high end huge projects with complex workflows, AVID is by far the most capable, folllowed by Premiere. It is just more robust and the UI is much more robust. Just the fact that Resolve does not have a clip side mixer for audio in the edit page or the ability to individually adjust individual tracks in the inspector on the source side makes it not useful for a high end edit. If they fix this then yes maybe ..Also the fact that the bin structure is not able to be tabbed is extremely problematic as is the fact that every single sequence in the project is always live in the pulldown menu on the edit window makes it very difficult to manage projects with hundreds of sequences. You have to disable sequences to get rid of them being in the dropdown. It should be if a bin is closed the sequence does not show up in the dropdown.

When Adobe changed to subscription I remained on CS6 for ages until eventually finally switching to Resolve. The colour nodes way of working was perhaps one of the biggest initial challenges. I found in particular your channel as well as Cullen's regular grade school sessions incredibly helpful in really understanding the practice of colour grading. Thank you Darren and keep up the great work.

Thank you, I have been procrastinating for about 12 months but have been waiting for a lull in business to dedicate some time to transitioning. My issue is i am super fast in premiere and can deliver multiple projects a night. I need to get to that same level in DR. I have a few days off so i'm going to dedicate some time and crack on :) this video helped a lot with the mind set and also getting my shorcuts duplicated.
Next will be time ramps then whatever the replacement is for Mocha AE and 3dcam tracker for pinning stuff to stuff :) If i can nail all this i can then bin adobe as well :D

I noted below that I have completely replaced Photoshop with Affinity Photo- it is a rock solid software as well. And I had been paying for and using Photoshop since around 1993 or so. I taught Photoshop and was Adobe certified, and I thought that I still needed to pay Adobe but forced myself to learn Affinity and found myself never reaching for Photoshop and after about a year of that, I completely dumped Adobe. I only mention this because I see people saying that Photoshop ( which is a great program ) was the only reason they haven't left Adobe.

I'm actually trying to switch from FCP and there is one very simple feature that I use all the time that I can't find... Maybe you can help.. Is there a way to quickly see the duration of a clip, or a group of clips? In FCP, there is yellow time indicator above the timeline that indicates the duration of whatever you're selecting, might that be one single clip or multiple clips... I've been told to use the Command-D function to display the Change Clip Duration window, which is a nice but limited workaround as It doesn't seem to work with multiple clips selected... Also, it requires to hit some keys, instead of just having it displayed at all time. I know it's a small feature, but in case I just missed out because I'm still a newbie, let me know. Thanks for existing, your channel is one of the best out there.. It really helps me to persevere in my switch.. which I already attempted 2 times in the past but always abandoned because of my old habits and speed using FCP.

The only thing I'm missing from premiere is the feature to replace an existing clip in the timeline with alt drag. You simply hold the Alt key and drag a clip from the project panel or source monitor with an inpoint set and move it ontop of an existing clip in the timeline. Great feature if you already have an edit in place with the desired clip position and length and just want to swap the footage. Does anyone know if you can do this as well in resolve somehow?

    • @raybp7512

I love Resolve, it's fast, feel sturdy, it has features readily available (like Dynamic Zoom) but I only use it for straight editing and color correction.
