Very intuitive video: Can you please make a video for Program changes for example to an external synth. Is there any way to have a program patch list saved or would I have to save 100s presets for the 100s of patches on the HW synth?
your english is so good that i was surprised when you said "audio" and "midi" like the absolute german guy that you are :D nice, i'd love to be as accent-free as you are. also nice video
what a shame that Bitwig studio doesn't have a "midi step input note" mode as Ableton, the notes can be chosen through the keyboard and a simple push on the right arrow inserts note or chords into the piano roll...I use this all the time and it's the only thing that stopped me to move to Bitwig
What am I doing wrong? If I enable midi clock, I cannot start the song I'm working on, neither with any of my controllers (PreSonus, Arturia's built in MCU/HUI), the keyboard space bar or the mouse. It seems Bitwig is waiting on some start/stop message from a place I'm unaware of. If I stop sending midi clock, all controller functionality returns, but my the arpeggiator on my Arturia is not detecting any clock. I've not had any trouble sending sync messages from other DAWs, but I'm by no means a wiz at these things. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you soo much for making this great DAW available for Linux! Everything works so far (Mint, Jack, incl. wine plugins). It would be great if Bitwig had native a2jmidid support. Midi-out works for me only by loading snd-virmidi.
Bitwig is a great program and I finally bought it, but the midi editing is so behind the time and basic that it makes pro tools midi look advanced. I can't believe HOW much is missing. Yes there's real time plugins for some stuff, but a lot of us are old school and do midi destructively with visual feedback on the piano roll, not real time plugins. The way to manipulate length for example is so archaic vs something like Logic, that I can't see myself ever composing in Bitwig from scratch, but I'd certainly be into doing audio remixing with it, and have actually decided to buy it on Splice with the rent to own and am on my third payment. It's got a great UI and is very stable software. The performance on Windows is very very good also at low buffer but I haven't had a chance to test that on Mac yet, where Ableton suffers greatly, so hopefully Bitwig is better in that regard (Apple M2 Ultra, Live is useless under 128 buffer).
Does these assignments get saved globally for each project or do you need to set this up again and again? And does Bitwig check if you assigned the same knob to different Plug-ins and only use it while the plugin is in focus?
at around 5:35ish you showed the MidiFighter Twister controller. I contacted the Manufacterer to see before buying if this would work in Bitwig. They told me No, Bitwig is not supported so I did not buy it. Can you tell me if its not supported how are you using it in Bitwig as it looked perfect for what I wanted to do but as I said its not supported in Bitwig. Thank you.
just because they don't support it doesn't mean it's not supported the API that bitwig offers to the controller script developers is pretty complex, AND there's a lot of open source people who write a LOT of the scripts plus, bitwig's got MIDI learn and, like the guy in the video said, generic supports, so even if there's no SPECIFIC script, odds are the genetic will work fine
It's a generic MIDI controller and should work with any application that can receive MIDI data. I had no issues using it as a basic MIDI controller with Bitwig Studio.
great video, thx! One small thing, I noticed midi cc only works on your hardware device IF it's Inside the Note Effects slot on the HD Instrument Device. Probably obvious, but us newbz can spend an hour scratching our heads 😂
dude! This video is the bomb! And i love that you DON'T start the video with asking me to subscribe and like. My response to that: I will like and subscribe!!!😎
I have been having loads of fun with note FX midi cc'ing to my external gear however I am having troubles with more basic stuff. I map the CC devices to my controller no problem. But when I change tracks I have the mapping doesnt change. Its like everything is mapped globally... Is it not possible to map controllers on a per track basis... Ie using the same knobs on mutiple devices be in controlling internal or external devices??? I feel I must be missing something very basic here???
How to use all 16 midi channels from my Roland Integra 7 on Bitwig. Cant find how to set up - so every HW channel will play 1 midi channel from Integra. So far I can hear all channels in one track HW. In Cubase there is not a problem. Many thanks for help.
i love bitwig, however it is impossible to get a keyzone split device to send midi into a bw track on anything but midi channel 1???? for example i have a NI komplete kontrol s88 with 3 keyzones setup with 3 different midi channels........ just will not be seen by bitwig as different midi channels..any suggestions would be appreciated jb
You guys needed to make this video 3 years ago, Bitwigs potential to become one of the Best DAWs is hindered by not making more videos like this, look at what Akai mpc and software are doing, long time cubase, logic and protools user, Bitwig is the most innovative software, please make some updates to core issues in the software, which is being able to Mute External Midi Channels, and CV channesl, this is standard on every DAW from the main arrangement window, you can mute vst, audio but not all the things you are speaking about in this video. I know there is work around but this is basic stuff and we asked for this 2 years ago. Thank you for making Audio latency compensation a breeze, nightmare on most other DAWs. We want less clicks on the mouse, and more time to jam on the keyboards. Cheers.
@@ghost_in_the_robot I am using Cubase and Bitwig, as Bitwig is incredible for modular, but for final mixdown of all audio and processing of audio with external, still use Cubase, Cubase also have tutorial twice a week online live and you can learn lot there, that is what Bitwig needs to do. I stay clear of Abelton, the way it handles audio is just subpar.
So I got my portable Grand midi set up but when I record in the timeline, the notes show up but there's not a single sound when I play it back. Anyone know why?
got a big problem, how to do i make that midi is only read for the chanal that is open? i can´t learn the same knob on my controller for two(or more) of the same or different synt. everytime i learno same knob on the different synt it change also the other one. there is no way i can produce that way cause i mapped my midi controller. i came from cubase and there only the chanels you use interact with midi. i can´t go on at the moment with bitwig cause of that
how is bigwig performing compared to ableton when it comes to jitter? do I still need the ERM multiclock or is it stable? drives me nuts in ableton live.
Great features! The audio side of things would have been nice to add , how to record the audio of the external synth back into Bitwig :) This is where timing and compensation really come to life.
Just make an audio track below your "HW Instrument Instrument" Track and set the input of the audio track to the same return input you have on the "HW instrument" device. Then mute the audio track so you aren't duplicating the volume, arm the audio track and hit record.
i see you're using Erae Touch in the demo-a wonderful controller! How do you connect it? I use a Rise script for Midiin2 and a generic controller with the regular Erae touch input. I am experiencing difficulties mapping the xy pads as the device usually only recognizes one axis and there is no picker menu after i click on "map to controller or key". So i need to build another layout that has the same CC as the XY pad but as faders so i can map them, then switch to xy pad(s) to control the device. also, i'm experiencing hanging mpe glides-if i release a note during a glide, the next note i play starts with an annoying fast glide to the pitch i played from the distance of the previous glide. Haven't experienced that in my other daws.
I wish I could just turn a knob on my synth and Bitwig would record the automation. I dont what to be looking through manuals for the correct cc value to map, this kills creativity, and prevents me from using Bitwig as my primary daw.
I love Bitwig solar but I hate Computers. Bitwig could start developing their own stand alone hardware. Please; with a swappable SSD. Ill help you design the CAD files for manufacture.
There is a VERY annoying bug in Bitwig (at least on Windows), where all MIDI ports are suddenly unusable. I've reported it a long time ago and even included a video with the issue, but it looks like they don't care because years later the bug is still present. Very easy to replicate: when Bitwig is running, switch on anything that uses MIDI over USB and suddenly all other external gear can no longer be used (shows error that the MIDI port is already in use). Only way to fix it is to make sure every hardware device is already switched on before starting Bitwig.
@@vozh-kc And what would be better? Mac? No thanks, I don't want an OS that breaks compatibility with every update. I also don't want to buy a computer at more than double the price of the spare parts.
@@kris_lx good thing i never said anything about mac then huh (even though the only situation you'd be running into incompatibilities THIS often is if you're actually running a hackintosh or something but whatever) no, the reason i mentioned bitwig specifically is that running it on linux (natively!) is VASTLY superior to windows
@@vozh-kc No thanks, I like to use multiple DAWs and have a lot of plugins, most of them are not available for Linux. Anyway, it's NOT a Windows problem, it's a Bitwig problem. If it was Windows I would see it in all DAWs, but I only have it in Bitwig.
@@kris_lx whether they're "available" is irrelevant. The let down with bigwig is all the cryptic icons that mean nothing without this guy and how many shift commands are enough? It’s all engineers know how to do to make a daw work with a typewriter exclusively. Brilliant isn’t it? 😂
i keep falling in love with this daw. thank you for making all this so easy, i come from FL studio and never looked back once.
Great overview and one reason why I love Bitwig! Super easy to drive my rack of gear
