Noone really likes to admit it, but azula literally killed aang in that moment she struck him. He'd been dead for several minutes before katara used the spirit water. “Azula is scarier than the fire lord. I don’t even know who that is!”
I always love that narrative choice avatar makes. Not seeing the main antagonist of the whole show until the last season makes him so much more imposing and mysterious when he does show up. Also, because of the huge amount of lord we get about him and the fire nation before meeting him, it makes it so much easier to understand his character and the decisions he makes.

Zuko reverting back to his usual is not surprising when you remember he's broken in so many ways. He's indured years of physical and mental abuse. Being himself got him scarred and banished. Trying to win back his father's love and respect made him put on a mask to act more like Azula. He was more like himself when he wore the Blue Spirit mask. Then, Iroh shouted some sense into him. After that, he became more like Iroh.
The moment he got a chance to go to his nation and the rest of his family, he jumps to it like most abused people jump back into the fire.
    BTW, Aang was dead.
Medically there are two levels of dead:
Clinical death which is the loss of a heartbeat and/or respiration. The brain may still have 4-6 minutes of oxygen and nutrients. This is sometimes reversible. Special spirit water or CPR CPR CPR. ❤️ 🌊
Biological death: Brain death. This is not reversible.
Katara got the spirit water to Aang fast enough to halt his progression from clinical death to biological death.

Attachment, unto itself, isn't necessarily a bad thing. There are different types of attachment that can make it bad.
There is Anxious, Avoidant and Secure.
Anxious and Avoidant can be toxic. Secure is healthy. It can stand just as strong independently as it can with a selective and voluntary interdependence with an other.

About the metal bending, it was actually mentioned in The Drill episode for the first time when Aang marks "X" on top of the drill to deliver the final blow, he said "what I'd give to be a metalbender"

I'm really excited for the next season :) Personally I liked this season's finale more, because the characters had more inner conflict to deal with - Aang deciding to let go of Katara and Zuko deciding to side with Azula.
In my opinion, this season truly showed why Azula is such a good villain. She is not only a talented and powerful firebender, but she has the unwavering confidence of a ruler. She is highly intelligent and manipulative. When she failed to invade Ba Sing Se, she tried another approach and literally took down the empire from the inside like team Avatar did with the drill. And that was only possible because she used every single tool at her disposal, by swaying the Dai Li and Zuko to her side.
Also, I think we all felt disappointed with Zuko when he sided with Azula, but I believe for his character it's not that surprising. In the end, he is still a child yearning for his father's love and acknowledgement. I think in previous episodes he was just putting a band-aid on this gaping wound, when in fact, what he really needs to do is address this deep source of pain. One of which is having been exiled by his own father. It's the kind of suffering only a parent can inflict on their child, and the issue is that Zuko finds fault in himself, not his father. That's why he can't let this Avatar business go. Deep down, he still wants to feel worthy of his father's love. His entire life he has been struggling with that.

Hey Meesh and Dee. "Happy Monday." These last two episodes have been great. It was nice seeing Sokka reunite with his father. Toph learning "Metal Bending" was an awesome moment. Katara and Zuko having a moment about their mothers as they were captured was something I didn't expect to see.
I knew this season was gonna end bad because we haven't seen the Fire lord and once Azula, Mai and Ty Lee successfully infiltrated Bai Sing Sai and learn of the Firenation weakness is during a solar eclipse. Even tho I was somewhat happy for Zuko showing some happiness but knew it wasn't going to last long. Especially with the arrival of Azula.
I wasn't surprised that Zuko sided with Azula because his story was not completed. And with Team Avatar winning the battle in season 1. Season 2 needed to be something different. Throughout the entire series, Team Avatar has been racking up lots of win. So it was a matter of time before they suffered their greatest defeat. And that time came in the last episode. And now the Firenation has conquered Bai Sing Sai. And with this loss how Team Avatar will bounce back from this loss. If you remember in episode 1 of season 2. Roku explained to Aang in the Avatar state he's at his most powerful but as well most vulnerable. If he's killed in the Avatar state. The cycle would be broken. I'm looking forward to you two reactions for season 3. But anyway, I hope you two have a wonderful day. Stay safe, take care, and stay amazing.

Toph inventing metal bending wil always be one of the best moments in the ENTIRE franchise. 😤👏One of my favorite aspects of the power system of this world is the concept of “sub-bending” and how only exceptionally talented or rare benders are typically able to perform them so getting to actually SEE Toph just straight up invent one is so cool and visually just SLAPPED😭🙌 and considering the amount of metal machinery we’ve seen in the show up until now I think it’s pretty fair to say it’s a REVOLUTIONARY technique that’ll change the landscape FOREVER. GOAT stuff from toph yet again 🙏🏻🐐 gonna say it tho, F Zuko 😤🤷🏻‍♂️ like, there’s a difference between an EXPLANATION and a JUSTIFICATION and while I feel empathy for Zukos past and understand WHY there’s NO EXCUSE to betray uncle the way he did after EVERYTHING Irohs done for him. Not to mention helping MURDER Aang 🙄 he’s amazingly written but I’m gonna say it; his characters sucks so hard sometimes 🤦🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️💀

Great reaction 😊😊. A LOT of things tp unpack here.
Toph straight up inventing metalbending is one of the coolest things. Period.
The shows attention to detail is incredible. When aang lies that he mastered avatar state toph was in the air so she couldnt feel aangs hearts vibration so she couldn't tell.
As frustrating as Zukos betrayal is it makes sense. The guys been banished for 3 yrs struggling to find his path and when he finally did, he was offered everything he wanted on a silver platter. Of course he'd break.
"Don't flatter yourself, you were never even a player" - Azula
And "Just take the Bear" - Mai are both iconic lines.
Azula is the kind of villain thatd kick a power ranger in the balls in the middle of morphing just to be petty.
I love how everything that happens in this episode is foreshadowed in the very 1st Ep of Book 2:
•Lightning bending was displayed for the first time and its by Azula
•Roku explaining Avatar state to Aang and that if he dies in the Avatar state the cycle is broken
•Zuko turning against Iroh and being offered his "Honor"
•The Earth kingdom being incompetent and turning against the Gaang
•Aang going into the Avatar State for Kataras sake
"The Learn to let go" lesson is here.
Many people have interpreted it in many ways. The way I see it, it's not that Aang has to be distant from Katara or that he cant Love her. It's that at the end of the day, if he had to choose between saving Katara or Saving the World he has to choose the world. He is the Avatar and his duty to the world is of more importance than his lover.
Im pretty sure, when Katara held Zuko's cheek, it wasn't because she wanted to kiss him, but because she was examining the scar she was about to try healing. And when she looked back at him while leaving the prison chamber, she did it because she felt sorry for not using the water to heal him even though she was the one who told him that she could. (Which the creators recently confirmed that it wouldnt have healed him even if she did use the water on him. So yea if she used it, it would be wasted and Aang would be dead af)
Idk why so many people misunderstand that scene, cause I personally never saw it Romantically because of one reason: the Blush. In animation media the blush is always used to indicate that this said character has feelings for this character. So for me no blush means no like.
And Katara's kind of already learned her lesson about not falling for and trusting people she barely knows back with Jet.
Aang literally dying, katara using spirit water to revive him and Azula taking over Ba Sing Se is not an outcome anyone couldve predicted for the finale.
Also its ok Dee. Every reactor (some even thought that Zuko was 1 uping Azula which just shows how much they love him) and most people were frustrated at zuko in this finale. Im also a Kataang shipper so im kinda happy to see that u are a fellow shipper 🥺🥺.
I had a blast watching ATLA with u guys ❤❤. Looking forward to Book 3. And i hope u have a great day ahead.

Zuko's "change" was more finally accepting that he was never going back home, and starting to ease into his new life with his uncle. If given more time and experience, he might not have been so quick to side with Azula.

    • @AustinSamson1999
      @AustinSamson1999 5 місяців тому +3

I’ve seen this sentiment echoed a lot by other people in the fandom in comment sections and respectfully Hard disagree with this my guy, he’s been mostly alone with Iroh for YEARS and still betrayed him at the drop of hat. The entire point to me if that scene with Azula is that it didn’t matter how much time Zuko spent away from home and how much he seemed to have “changed” until he actually addressed the underlying CAUSE of him trauma, which is all the BS with his dad. Spending time outside of the fire nation was good for Zuko but never allowed him any actual opportunity to get closure, to confront the trauma directly and WHY it’s making him feel the way he does. To see going home DIDNT help make his anger better or his inner pain to go away. No matter how long he spent in the earth kingdom he wasn’t dealing with his truama in any way constructive he was just shoving it down and forcing himself to accept a new life. So even if he had been then for YEARS before the Gaang arrived that ALWAYS would have been the outcome. Azula came and offered him the ONE thing he desperately wanted deep in his core, something that triggered him in every emotional level he has cuz that’s what trauma DOES. He was ALWAYS going to make this choice until he saw for himself that going home didn’t mean shit 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m not sure about it but I thought the lead writers said the oasis water wouldn’t have healed Zuko’s scar anyway just like it didn’t with Aang’s scar.

Toph is crazy powerful but would you be surprised to hear that she might not even be like Top 3 earth benders of all time 👀. Not sure if you guys will ever read the comics but there are some serious benders out there.

Okay, as somebody who’s actually personally read every comic book, ALL the extended novels for Kyoshi and Yangchen and grew up as this and Korra originally aired having seen each episode about a BILLION times I can say unbiasedly and with 100% certainty that this is CAP 👏 Tophs the greatest earthbender who has EVER lived FULL STOP. That includes past avatars too. There has NEVER been an earthbender with such a powerful connection and understanding to the earth as Toph has and there hasn’t been since. Toph single-handily invented a REVOLUTIONARY new bending technique, stalemated Bumi a few days before black sun and was powerful enough to hold up the Spirit library which is equivalent to a GIANT castle. And these are all feats when she’s TWELVE 👏😤 not to mention her feats in LOK are insane PLANET level and nobody comes close to those. In her prime, which is DECADES after the series ends she’s undeniably the GOAT 🐐 👏😤 Yun from the kyoshi novels is tied with Bumi for second place imo 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@AustinSamson1999 I was going to write a long comment talking about Yun, Jianzhu, Tieguan the immortal and Avatar Kyoshi's feats. However, you are still right.
Toph gets beaten in some categories. Kyoshi was more powerful. Yun was way smarter and more dangerous. Tieguan knew the secret of immortality.
But all in all, she is the greatest because she lacks in nothing and excels at so much.

@@androkguz PREACH my guy, this is so well said. 🙌👏 The thing about Avatar that’s amazing is that in all these different eras they’ve made these individual benders so special and standout because they ALL have unique strengths and abilities that work in their favor against ANYBODY full stop. Styles make fights. Yuns liquid earth technique, which Kyoshi compared to be as fluid as waterbending could cause PROBLEMS for Toph. His brutality and eagerness to kill is a favor like you said but I disagree about being WAY smarter. I mean in like, book knowledge, world events and all other bending styles he studied under SURE but in pure fight IQ and understanding an opponent psychology I’d argue they were even, especially since Toph is shown to be an EXPERT people reader and manipulator in the comics with Yaling. It’s how she ends up the chief of police with her street smarts I think. So I’d just say they even out in that department. The thing that REALLY puts Toph over the edge for me is like you said bro, she lacks at nothings and excels in almost everything. Her specific version of seismic sense is one of the most OP abilities in the ENTIRE franchise able to see across the PLANET, Yuns sense is powerful too but it DOESNT compare to that. add in her metal bending and that most of her feats come from when she was TWELVE and she takes it for me. 🤷🏻‍♂️🙏🏻I’m SO EXCITED to see the Adult Gaang movie when it drops 😭🙌 imagine how good the choreography is gonna be after they already elevated and perfected it in LOK? I’m so hype 👏

@@AustinSamson1999 ahh, but the reason I say Yun is smarter is not just book smart. The guy only ever gets serious in two fights. On one, he defeats a *named* spirit. On another, he defeats the Avatar.
Toph, on the other hand, gets kidnapped twice in the series and gets taken by surprise by Yakone when she really should have seen his intent coming. All in all... And probably due to some plot needing to happen, toph gets surprised a lot.
Meanwhile, Yun was trained not just on books but on the arts of war. And he was a Pai Sho master because he was smart. Toph has good intuition, but has never read a book on her life, much less on the topic of war and tactics.

@@androkguz legit the same exact thing can be said about the fire nation and Azula having been trained and tactics in the art of war tho? And neither of the two scenarios you just described actually required Yun to outsmart ANY of those opponents. He beat Father Glowworm because he was durable AF and every time his earth struck the spirit it got smaller so he legit just outlasted it by avoiding any fatal blows until it was too small to continue. In fact, all the techniques he performed in that book to defeat the Spirit toph has also displayed before, like seismic sense and splitting the earth like Moses. And he beat Rangi and Kyoshi by again using his seismic sense and burrowing underground to catch them off guard, he did it legit everytime he and kyoshi faced offf and it ALWAYS worked. That wouldn’t work on Toph tho 🤷🏻‍♂️. You kinda exactly said what I said my guy, he’s book smart. He’s trained in tactics and multiple bending techniques as well as assassination but those are all things Toph has faced before in combustion man and Azula, etc. Also like, I get what ur saying about toph bejng caught off guard but that’s still her before her prime to be fair, also she was kidnapped once by surrendering so the earth king wasn’t moidled. Taking is NOT her fault because they were under the assumption bllodbendjng was impossible without a full moon, why should be able to see the future and that he can bend with his mind? And to be fair Are we forgetting Yun lost to Tagaka at the beginning of kyoshis first book? Or that kyoshi took him by surprise when she BODIED him? If he’s a super genius why would he let a person he having a fight to the DEATH with get close enough to touch him? Legit the only reason he got around the way he did was because he could burrow underground and also return to the spirit world whenever he wanted. The point I’m making is Toph in her PRIME as a full grown adult with all her skills and abilities would be equally as street smart and experienced being a chief of police who regularly deals with crime, also like not to mention having LIVED through a war with people equally as trained in assassination and the arts of war and tactics. Azula overthrew the ENTIRE earth kingdom at FOURTEEN 😳 no question overall strategically and with proper planing he’s smarter in a book smart sense. Like OVERALL clearly he’s so smart but in a 1 on 1 fight or battle perspective her own IQ and importantly Experience and a UNIQUE style of bending should be on par with his level of smarts 🤷🏻‍♂️🙏🏻 appreciate the discussion tho bro
