Yup the first time I saw Zuko turn into a sweet lil Tea shop helper, it felt so fake that i thought he's just trying his best to please his uncle. Like he was trying to suppress his conflicted feelings.
Even him getting severely ill after making the decision to free Appa isn't all that unrealistic; I've known abuse survivors who genuinely have extreme physical reactions to things that would have, in the past, gotten them punished. It's exaggerated for storytelling effect, but that's a real thing PTSD can do. Zuko had been conditioned from a very young age that betraying his father and his nation is the most unforgivable thing he could do; he was publicly maimed and humiliated and banished from his homeland just for disrespecting a general and questioning a military decision, imagine what would be done to him if they found out he had made a deliberate move to give the "enemy" the upper hand, especially when his direct orders and last chance at "redemption" was to bring down said enemy. I used to think it was weird that he got so sick after that moment, but it honestly makes a lot of sense as to why he relapsed as hard as he did. Things might have been different if he had more time to recover.
Zuko is a years long addict ( drug of choice- redeeming honour) and finally - FINALLY letting the one family member who loves him (his uncle), clear his head and show him how he isnt chasing his destiny or redeeming his honour, he is just being a foolish tool of his egomaniac dad and sister, throwing his life away for nothing. He's only been sober for a few weeks, when Azula just shows up and dumps a truckload of his drug of choice at his feet. he relapsed. As he should, like 99.999% people would.
One thing the show does really well (among others) is showing the dependency that victims of abuse have on their abuser. You see this play out in real life so many times too, and many times people will just be like "well why don't they leave", but it's a lot more complicated than that.
Yeah Zuko isn't quite ready to give up on his 'family' yet, which is understandable, given both his age and having so many unresolved issues not only with Sis and Dad but within himself.
wish we could actually see what a stable Zuko vs a stable Azula would actually look like since we never actually see that, we sort of kinda saw how that would go at the start of Southern Raiders
I think it's crazy that all this wouldn't have happened if the gang stuck around to see the Kyoshi Warriors before leaving instead of just confidently waving them through. Also, I believe "happy" Zuko was a mask. He came to the realization that he would in all likelyhood never have the destiny he wanted, his life ambition was cut short and not on his terms. Instead of wallowing, he just decided to make the most of the situation, smile and pretend to be happy for Iroh and himself until it becomes genuine happiness. But Azula dangled that carrot before he had a chance to fully close that chapter in his life.
I love how Iroh and Azula both represent Zuko’s shoulder angel and demon respectively. This was also symbolized in Zuko’s nightmare in the previous episode, where Iroh was the Red Dragon (good) and Azula being the Blue Dragon (bad)
11:44 zuko using water bending technique to attack azula instead of his aggressive firebending style shows how much he has changed. I think this is something a lot of people don't notice, the attention to detail is insane
Yup! As much as this show is inspired by Eastern art and culture, the writers admit to looking to Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings for inspiration as well.
Unpopular opinion, but I think the Guru meant everything he said. If the teaching is based on Buddha's path to enlightenment he literally did abandon his wife and child, so it stands to reason that as Aang's quest to attain enlightenment/complete mastery over the Avatar state he needs to do the same(at the very least in the Guru's mind). Spoiler: The same way a certain someone lost his attachment/tether to the world when he lost his beloved and thus obtaining enlightenment and access to the ultimate form of airbending
then how does it work for other avatars? we clearly see avatars that have mastered the avatar state for example, Roku, he mastered the avatar state and also has a wife and had a child spoilers for ATLA below a theme you see a lot in ATLA is that masters of their craft can have differing opinions even though their skill is exceptional a good example is the difference between Iroh and Jeong Jeong. When Jeong Jeong talks about firebending it almost sounds as if he hates it, he says that it only brings destruction, that is likely because he became a master in such an evil nation like the fire nation. His opinion of firebending is tainted because he grew up and trained under the premise of war. But Iroh does not have the same opinion of firebending, and that is because he went to see the sun warriors, when Aang and Zuko meet the sun warriors they explain that fire is life which is very different from Jeong Jeong's view of firebending. What I'm trying to say is that you can be an impressive and wise master and still be wrong about something. The Guru can be wrong in the same way Jeong Jeong is wrong. Because how can people like Kyoshi and Roku possibly have spouses if they had mastered the avatar state?
@@skull1161 that is why I put in brackets (at least that was what guru phatik thought) I'm not saying he's right or wrong. I'm just saying he meant what he said rather than the fandom saying he explained poorly. Second of, I always thought of the Avatar state, the way the other Avatars use it is equivalent to the Hulk, a goal/targeted outcome is set, but it's an automatic reaction where the past Avatars knowledge/strength is facilitated by R(iyjyk) and the Avatar just turns it off and on rather than the Avatars having full and complete control over the state. Of course this is just my interpretation of it and is in no way canon. However, I do believe the guru said what he meant to say, (as misguided as he possibly was), rather than the fandom saying oh he meant something else and Aang just didn't get it.
I think the phrasing is irrelevant,Aang dosnt want to be the avatar, thats a fact and its all that matters,so no matter how clear or suggarcoated the message is,he would rather avoid taking the final step to fullfill his role, ateast at this point,in comparison to _another_ avatar that would do *anything* to fullfill her role as an avatar.
Unpopular opinion: Buddhists can be scumbags too. "Enlightenment" at the expense of your loved ones is the ultimate betrayal. It's the peak of self-worship. Iroh was 100% correct when he said that perfection and power are overrated.
@@skull1161 Yangchen says "Many great and wise Air Nomads have detached themselves and achieved spiritual enlightenment, but the Avatar can never do it, because your sole duty is to the world. Here is my wisdom for you. Selfless duty calls you to sacrifice your own spiritual needs and do whatever it takes to protect the world." I think this is the great dilemma of the Avatar. As a SPIRIT, Raava can be detached and look down on humanity. But in merging with a human being, she no longer can be detached. The Avatar will NEVER be able to be fully impartial, because they're human. And human beings do not run on logic. But emotion. Avatar Szeto is a great showcase of this, as he only focused on the Fire Nation. Yangchen had to pick up his slack and balance the nations out, but neglected the spirits, which is ironic given that she's an Airbender. Kuruk had to pick up HER slack and battle many dark spirits, to the point of losing his wife to one, and getting himself killed in his 30s. Kyoshi's great regret was the dai li, and arguably, living as long as she did via using Earthbending to bend the molecules in bones to regenerate. If she had died sooner, or maybe even LATER, Roku wouldn't have had to deal with the dilemma of killing his best friend. Not killing Sozin, caused the Air Nomads to be wiped out. Aang had to take on the responsibility of ending a 100 year war. In perspective, Aang gave Korra a relatively peaceful world. She kind of caused a lot of her own problems, and solved those problems. However, Korra made one huge, grave error. Letting her uncle get too close, and take away her past lives. The next Avatar, will probably be focused on getting them back, as energy cannot be destroyed, only passed on. And it just doesn't make sense to get rid of all that knowledge the past lives have.
I think it would’ve been better if Xin Fu didn’t say even you can’t bend metal and just have the guru explain the elements within as the audience see Toph do it in real time
I disagree; him saying _"Even you_ can't..." was an absolutely pivotal challenge to making Toph actually try it. Her whole driving motivation is proving people wrong who say she can't do things. It couldn't have gone any other way.
Toph’s driving motivation was fear of being brought back to her parents and back to the sheltered life. The retort just goaded her a little and she does have that competitive edge.
Just a humble observation: People always say "good thing Katara didn't use the special-holy-water-from-north-pole on Zuko. This way, she could save Aang". Well, maybe, if she had used the water to heal Zuko's scar, that could have won him to their side. So, they all could easily defeat Azula, and Aang maybe would not have to die...
“Look into your heart and see what it is that you truly want” - this along with Zukos entire journey in Book 2 from episode 1 to the finale, should show you that it doesn’t matter if she healed his face, he would have STILL chosen team Azula. At the end of the day he wants his fathers love, acceptance, and for his dad to not think he was worthless. If Katara used the water to heal his scar the fire nation would have won the war and the avatar cycle would be over so hope for peace would forever be gone.
@@armancole2781 This is a thing that is kinda "dumb" (humanly dumb. But still dumb). Dude literally challenged Azula hours before. Recites "Azula always lies" when chilling at grass... And then teams with her. I think that MAYBE if he was healed, he just would have thought: "these people healed my face. Those other people burnt my face and NEVER helped me to find the Avatar, on contrary!". But yes, Zuko is not the smartest one in the show. It doesn't surprise me. It's just a "what if".
They really think Long Feng, with all of his spies and informants mind you, has no idea what Azula is capable of and backed down *solely* by her words 😂
i just noticed something, when zuko attacked azula, the movement he did was that of waterbenders, i think we saw katara use the same movement and aang too.
@8:47 you mentioned Yoda earlier, don't forget that Dave Filoni worked on this, and it's most apparent in this scene: it's almost beat-for-beat lifted from Empire Strikes Back where Luke is learning about the Force and sees a vision of Leia and Han in danger, then against Yoda's wishes, goes to help them... @11:08 that shared look... yall know what's UP!!
In “sozen’s comet” - part 1, when zuko attacks aang to teach him a lesson and when Aang swings himself into the house, if you look closely you can see a scar on his foot where the lightning exited Aang’s body.
I am nor really dissapointed in Zuko, I mean I am, but after seing how his arc ends I think that was the right move on writers part. It was not only the right move, it was the best move. His "happiness" always felt somewhat aritificial. He was happy all time, as in he had no frustations whatsoever. And when Azula hands everything he thinks he wants on silver platter it is like offering an achool to an achoolic that is sober for only a few days. And even after he betrays Iroh is still conflicted. Zuko's character arc is one the best in any show ever.
would like you all to watch the anime "Code Geass". The designs are unique and you may be confused at first, but you won't regret it after seeing it. The story is so complete that it's still one of my top three favorite animes. What's surprising is that it was made in 2006.
The scene with the Guru talking about the connection of the elements and transitioning to Toph learning to metal bend with the ringing music gave me absolute chills. Avatar is such a masterpiece....
Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished. That's why we called Toph instead. We're doing fine.
The guy on the end of the couch mentioned "the Ember Island Players" which is an excellent episode. It's close to maybe 1-2 months away though but I wanted to give a shout-out to that mention. By the way, love all the subtle side-eye action at certain comments. It's a perfect nod to people familiar with the show that are in the know without alerting the new viewers on the couch to anything. Every time you do it after a first-time viewer makes certain comments, I know we're thinking the same thing at that moment.
Everyone focuses so much on Azula breaking the “hero is allowed to power up” trope that they forgot she did it on purpose to end the Avatar. Killing them while in the avatar state means ending the cycle. She knew exactly what she was doing. Not just typical dirty tactics, she had a specific goal in mind.
That’s why Katara is my favorite Character in this show. It’s hard to forget that face 😔 Crying and holding Anng literally Dead on her arms due Zuko betrayed them. It’s hard to forgive, that’s impossible!
I really like that they actually realised that Katara Bested Azula and if it was not for Zuko she woul'd ve won. Katara really became a master in this fight, she fought azula, then went to fight Zuko, azula and the Dai lee army, used the octopus technique, literally drawned zuko and the entire dai lee to catch aang and she literally brought and from the death
These are my top two favorite episodes of the whole show. The character arcs and action scenes coming together were absolutely beautiful This's also probably the episode that started the Zutara ship among fans
To put this finale in perspective we had to wait A GOD DAMN YEAR back in the late 2000s for season 3. The wait itself would've been fine...if not for the shipping war to end all shipping wars. God I still have flashbacks.
literally Dead due: Zuko betrayed them. That’s really sad how Kataras Cries so much for Aang, specially after when she used the water from the oasis. 😔😔😔 It was painful!
The great thing about this show is that even though it’s a kids show, they’re trusting their young audience to be capable of understanding the plot. It was a giant gamble for the time, and boy did it pay off.
Cool small detail when Ang is falling after getting struck with azula’s lightning. The bottom of his foot has a scar from it exiting his body and going into the ground below him exactly how lightning would work. The path of least resistance to a grounding source aka the ground through the foot.
The producers had the knife and cheese in hands with Zuko and Katara, but they decided to throw the cheese away and stick the knife on our anuses!!! My iner eight years old girl still enraged.
Hey btw, the show had to really fast track the chakra opening process but it is actually a real thing. Buddhists, especially hindu buddhists meditate on chakras and visualise these aspects of their lives to gain enlightenment.
To be fair, I think we expected a bit much. Zuko still has not only unresolved issues within himself but also some unresolved issues with Sis and Dad, plus the remnants of an understandable childish dream to be accepted into the 'family' or maybe just to FINALLY please his father, the only parent he's had since his mom was banished.
Aang was to young to understand that he didn't mean y9u couldn't love her or be with her. He just ment that you have to learn to let her go if you ever need to so you can choose the safety of the world or the safety of katara. The avatar is allowed to have attachments your just not allowed to put those attachments over the needs of everyone else's.
its end of 2nd act and by rules of story telling its the lowest point. also color theme is so sick 1st blue water, 2nd green earth. lightning is electricity so it has to go thru to have impact and went out of the foot to the ground which was closest i guess the least resistance
To those who are seeing Azula and the Dai Li angle a bit skeptically, think rationally about it: ...if you were the Dai Li and the choice came right down to either arresting Azula or Long Fang, as it happened in the throne room, who'd you choose to side with ? Its azula ez for me - she is the most overpowered villain in the entire show and one of the most overpowered characters ever - 1v1 except maybe the firelord himself, Azula can take down anyone - she blasts through toph's rocks like destroying toiletpaper, with her lightning, she eats ang for dinner - both 1v1 and in avatar state and at that point in time, she also eats Zuko for dinner and actually got to shoot the famed Dragon of the west, to create distraction, while being cornered by the dragon of the west himself, with the avatar, the strongest earth-bender ever, zuko, katara and another dude waving a stick around(Sokka). Long Fang himself might be a good earthbender, he certainly isnt the best, neither are the Dai Li agents, while Azula is one of the top 3 firebenders and top 3 most powerful individuals in the damn show up to this point. Not to mention, she is so powerful and so confident in her abilities, she literally leads a 3 person team to infiltrate Ba Sing Se and the Royal Palace and successfully does so after disposing of the famed Kyoshi warriors while toying with them ! Like, sorry, but seeing her nearly take down the city by herself in a drill with 2 henchmen and a maybe a few dozen soldiers inside the drill alone is enough for a Dai Li agent to heisitate to go up against Azula. If you actually KNOW who she is and what she can do and how you cant run and hide from her- not even the freaking avatar can- i'd throw Long Fang under the bus 10 times outta 10 even if its just 1 week with Azula. Sorry, even as assistant head honcho of Dai Li, i aint followig command of 'arrest the fire nation princess'. Thats a death sentence, simple.

Watch her learn how to bend metal though...
:Room filled with crickets
lol
Cant ever underestimate the goat😏
As a kid I hated Azula but now I just appreciate a good villain. Kinda love her now ngl lol.
wish we could actually see what a stable Zuko vs a stable Azula would actually look like since we never actually see that, we sort of kinda saw how that would go at the start of Southern Raiders
she's so iconic
I think it's crazy that all this wouldn't have happened if the gang stuck around to see the Kyoshi Warriors before leaving instead of just confidently waving them through. Also, I believe "happy" Zuko was a mask. He came to the realization that he would in all likelyhood never have the destiny he wanted, his life ambition was cut short and not on his terms. Instead of wallowing, he just decided to make the most of the situation, smile and pretend to be happy for Iroh and himself until it becomes genuine happiness. But Azula dangled that carrot before he had a chance to fully close that chapter in his life.
It never acured to me Zuko could be masking! That's intresting
best explanation ive heard in a long time thank you
We were ALL disappointed in Zuko in this episode.
Lightning needs an exit point, thats why his footed is shot too. She hit his back, it went out his foot
I love how Iroh and Azula both represent Zuko’s shoulder angel and demon respectively. This was also symbolized in Zuko’s nightmare in the previous episode, where Iroh was the Red Dragon (good) and Azula being the Blue Dragon (bad)
Also the scar. His choices were represented by the screen showing both sides of his face.
11:44 zuko using water bending technique to attack azula instead of his aggressive firebending style shows how much he has changed. I think this is something a lot of people don't notice, the attention to detail is insane
good eye 📌
Omg I never noticed it was a water bending technique! But I always thought it was a cool move 😂
I gotta appreciate how everyone always sits in the same spot each time lol
Aang leaving his training to save Katara reminds me of Luke leaving his training to save his friends
And Book 2 is the empire strikes back. The heroes lose the villains win.
Yup! As much as this show is inspired by Eastern art and culture, the writers admit to looking to Star Wars, Harry Potter, and Lord of the Rings for inspiration as well.
Episode 39-40: of appreciating the ladies of Studio Gek. (Respectfully)
Spoiler:
The same way a certain someone lost his attachment/tether to the world when he lost his beloved and thus obtaining enlightenment and access to the ultimate form of airbending
then how does it work for other avatars? we clearly see avatars that have mastered the avatar state
for example, Roku, he mastered the avatar state and also has a wife and had a child
spoilers for ATLA below
a theme you see a lot in ATLA is that masters of their craft can have differing opinions even though their skill is exceptional
a good example is the difference between Iroh and Jeong Jeong.
Dang I forgot how insane this finale was! Season three of Avatar is going to be awesome and I can’t wait for the reaction 👍🔥
2:42 THE FACES ON THE SIDES ARE PERFECT!!!!!!
I think it would’ve been better if Xin Fu didn’t say even you can’t bend metal and just have the guru explain the elements within as the audience see Toph do it in real time
Yea it kind of gives it away, would have been way cooler for it to just happen rather than us being hinted that its about to be.
Man, Azula is just always lightyears ahead of everyone!! 🧠
Azula is a legit psychopath
Just a humble observation: People always say "good thing Katara didn't use the special-holy-water-from-north-pole on Zuko. This way, she could save Aang". Well, maybe, if she had used the water to heal Zuko's scar, that could have won him to their side. So, they all could easily defeat Azula, and Aang maybe would not have to die...
honestly I doubt it, Zuko is still way too flimsy emotionally to give up his last moment to regain his old life back
“Look into your heart and see what it is that you truly want” - this along with Zukos entire journey in Book 2 from episode 1 to the finale, should show you that it doesn’t matter if she healed his face, he would have STILL chosen team Azula.
Zuko would want his fathers love more than the scar his dad gave him. It would do nothing
Nah, Zuko was not at the point in his arc where he would have stood by Team Avatar. He still had some growing to do
They really think Long Feng, with all of his spies and informants mind you, has no idea what Azula is capable of and backed down *solely* by her words 😂
Toph metal bending is just 🔥🔥
The true conversion here is that McKay went from rooting for bad things to happen to rooting for redemption arcs and wholesomeness.
i just noticed something, when zuko attacked azula, the movement he did was that of waterbenders, i think we saw katara use the same movement and aang too.
"Watch her figure out how to bend metal."
Everyone else: *deadpan* 😂
Also it is realistic. Not many people can make immediate changes in their lives. Especially those who are victims of abuse.
would like you all to watch the anime "Code Geass".
The designs are unique and you may be confused at first, but you won't regret it after seeing it. The story is so complete that it's still one of my top three favorite animes. What's surprising is that it was made in 2006.
Aang was basically clinically dead after Azula shot him (no pulse/respiration). The spirit water resuscitated him just in time
The scene with the Guru talking about the connection of the elements and transitioning to Toph learning to metal bend with the ringing music gave me absolute chills. Avatar is such a masterpiece....
Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished. That's why we called Toph instead. We're doing fine.
Let go of your earthly tether. Enter the void. Empty and become the wind.
Haha nice. Imagine Zaheer as the avatar, he wouldn't have had any issue entering the avatar state
The guy on the end of the couch mentioned "the Ember Island Players" which is an excellent episode.
I'm excited for the rematch...
19:17
Why did bro scream like he was the one being attacked 😂
That’s why Katara is my favorite Character in this show. It’s hard to forget that face 😔 Crying and holding Anng literally Dead on her arms due Zuko betrayed them. It’s hard to forgive, that’s impossible!
I AM SO EXCITED FOR THIS
2:40
Lmaoooo everyone's faces when she said that.
20:55 i agree.. zuko was indeed a little bish 🤣 love it
No way I just got an ad on meditation by an Indian guru
I really like that they actually realised that Katara Bested Azula and if it was not for Zuko she woul'd ve won. Katara really became a master in this fight, she fought azula, then went to fight Zuko, azula and the Dai lee army, used the octopus technique, literally drawned zuko and the entire dai lee to catch aang and she literally brought and from the death
These are my top two favorite episodes of the whole show. The character arcs and action scenes coming together were absolutely beautiful
This's also probably the episode that started the Zutara ship among fans
To put this finale in perspective we had to wait A GOD DAMN YEAR back in the late 2000s for season 3.
The wait itself would've been fine...if not for the shipping war to end all shipping wars. God I still have flashbacks.
"I'd fall in love with him down there" - looks right at the camera.
😂
Katara was about to beat Azula’s ass
im in love with mushroom hair girl
At least you guys don't have to wait over a year and a half between season 2 & 3 to finish the series like we did when it was first airing lol
Avatar time! Finale woot woot!
Watching you guys gonthrough this takes me back to my first time, and when i put my shipmates onto it
2:39 “Watch her figure out how to bend metal though.”
👀 Me sharing glances with the others on the couch sharing glances, lol
were all looking foward to season 3 episode 6 and 8 lets be honest
12:20 “I fell in love with him there” 😂😂😂 she’s so real
LMAO real
Azula, the master gaslighter 'xD
literally Dead due: Zuko betrayed them. That’s really sad how Kataras Cries so much for Aang, specially after when she used the water from the oasis. 😔😔😔 It was painful!
You can see in 18:09 zuko’s face expression showed how much he didnt want to betray his uncle, but was forced to 😢
brig's "GYAT" was a jumpscare LMAO
I understand Katara's hate against Zuko here
Need you all to watch haikyuu, you don’t even need to know volleyball to enjoy
YES PLEASE!
Should be next. After HxH and FMAB, Haikyuu got the most votes. We're gonna have to wait over 4 months tho (when they finish HxH) 😭
Carter saw me say he looks clean with glasses and put it on during the best episode of the season
I think it's incredibly raw for a kids show to kill of their main character (even tho it was short)
Real
2:39 the guys reactions to the left 😂
2:40 the smirk
Toph's just the GOAT.
The great thing about this show is that even though it’s a kids show, they’re trusting their young audience to be capable of understanding the plot. It was a giant gamble for the time, and boy did it pay off.
ayyy lets go book 3 is coming !!
You guys have GOT to watch Korra after this. Even better it would be a new experience for most of you!
When they talk about having your heros reach a darkest hour, they mean it. It’s a kids show, I don’t think many people expected such a brutal defeat.
FULL COUCH LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
0:12 She looking traumatized already and the episode hasn't even started. This gonna be a rough one, buddies 🤣
It is weird to watch Zuko and Katara in one room not fighting each other.
8:40 oh the parallels with Empire Strikes Back
Zuko: ‘Ever think I want more than a nice apartment and a job serving tea!?!?’
Me: That sounds like the ACTUAL DREAM, but ohhhhkaayy…
Uncle Iroh's disappointment in Zuko here is reflective of the entire fanbase.
Это был очень эпичный конец 2й части
its end of 2nd act and by rules of story telling its the lowest point. also color theme is so sick 1st blue water, 2nd green earth. lightning is electricity so it has to go thru to have impact and went out of the foot to the ground which was closest i guess the least resistance
12:22 youre so real for that
can we give props to mckays posture? my god what a G 😎😂
Me realizing that Kylo Ren is basically Zuko in live action.
Don't flatter yourself. You were never even a player
(Blue) 🔥🔥🔥
FOR THOSE WHO DONT KNOW JASMINE TEA IS ACTUALLY ZUKOS FAVORITE TEA WHICH MEANS THAT IROH ACTUALLY NAMED HIS SHOP AFTER ZUKO 😭👋🏻♥️♥️♥️
The guy in the red looks like the Notre Dame Quarterback
I honestly love to hate Azula 😂 She's such a great antagonist!!! She's cold, calculated, strong, & a master gaslighter 😂 also Zuko's arc keeps getting better. Love that the earth kingdom fell in the end, nice setup for s3
2:13 STOPPPP HAHAHA 🖐🏻😂 IM DED
There are so many moral values in this series.
