Yea, it worked. There is 2 ram slots in laptop. 1 is soldered and other is removable. So, I bought 16 gb ram stick . Now I have 20gb in ram. There is a command to find out max ram capacity of the computer. wmic memphysical get maxcapacity "Using CMD to Check Maximum RAM Capacity Once the Command Prompt window is open, type the command “wmic memphysical get maxcapacity” and press Enter. This command will query your computer's memory subsystem and display the maximum capacity of RAM in kilobytes."
Performed the RAM and SSD upgrade yesterday. The included 128GB SSD on mine is an extremely poorly spec'd drive, the read speed is barely okay but the write speed is abysmal. The SSD replacement not entirely straightforward, bit of an arm wrestle but I got there. Both the added 8GB RAM and 1TB SSD immediately seen in the BIOS when rebooted, but the Win11 installation USB not picked up in the USB slot I selected. Swapped USB into a different slot and BIOS could then see it. So then started the Win11 install but new SSD was not seen by the Win11 install despite being clearly present in the BIOS. So had to go to the Intel site and download the Intel Rapid Storage Technology driver. Driver then unzipped, put in a folder on the Win11 install USB and then I pointed Win11 there during install and allowed Win11 to load the driver (but had to uncheck the "Hide incompatible drivers" box -go figure). 1TB drive then seen by Win11 install and install proceeded without a hitch. Hope this helps somebody 🙂
Thanks so much for this video! I just upgraded this laptop as you demonstrated and it has made a world of a difference (and saved me several hundred pounds over buying a new laptop!). I can now use my laptop for work tasks (data analysis) that previously took too long to even bother attempting.
Just completed this process putting 8gb in. No surprises because you covered everything. I would say the pry tools are essential and I bought a similar kit to yours before doing it. Thanks very much.

@@opaque1797 Pretty firm. I very much doubt you'd do it with a credit card as I doubt it would have the torque required but could be wrong. Taking off That being said it wasn't one of the hardest covers I've taken off. Taking off the cover is the only real crux of the procedure.

To be fair, 12gb of ram is more than enough for what I'll be using the laptop for. I'm more concerned about the storage and to that end will consider purchasing a HDD when I can. However, the cable and HDD mount are quite expensive from the links provided above. Shame Asus didn't provide them from the outset.

Didn't encounter any issues in the testing I did, actually as the laptop isn't super-skinny it did quite well in terms of noise and temperatures. Probably done to give some airflow to other components on the mainboard I suspect.

No just one slot free. There internal 4mb ran it comes with is soldered to the board and then there one slot free as shown in the video to add your upgrade
You make a point of different size in screws but don't show where to use the long ones once it's time to screw back the bottom cover. Yes, I'm one of those viewers that forgot the order of these screws, so the error is mine. It would've helped though.

@@opaque1797 If you're connecting a drive to the SATA header on the mainboard then an M.2 NVMe SSD won't work - its not compatible with the SATA interface. A SATA M.2 drive would, but then you might as well just buy a SATA 2.5" SSD.

Just wondering if you've tested this with a 16GB stick bringing the total to 20GB and if this actually works or if an 8GB stick is the highest capacity SODIMM that can be installed? When I examine it with the cpuid programm, There are two ram slots on the device (?) However, when we disassemble laptop, we see 4 gb ram connected to one ram slot. And when this ram is removed, the device does not turn on. There is no onboard/soldered ram. So where is that second ram slot then? :))))
I used an extra 8 gigs (8+4=12) with similar frequency. But it gave me constant BSOD. Then when I downgraded it to 4 (4+4=8) it seems to work fine until now.
There was no warranty seal broken during the upgrade process, but in the event of a claim you'd have to return the system to its original configuration. If you damage anything in the process this may void the warranty as well.

A clean windows... That's a contradiction. On such underpowered machines just install Linux (not a candy cane variant like Mint or ?Buntu, but a true Slackware, preferably 32 bit) to have this machine fly by like a Vickers Valiant. My main machine is a Dell Latitude E5570 with a core i3 6001 CPU with a WD black HDD and it is so darned fast...

CPU-Z will tell you in the SPD tab whether the RAM is single or dual rank: www.cpuid.com/softwares/cpu-z.html

Not sure then. I suspect it will be single rank as otherwise it would use more space on the mainboard.

No, you can fit a 16GB module - I just upgraded this particular system with a 4GB module to bring it up to 8GB in total.

You need to either install Windows on to the new SSD or clone across the contents of the existing one.

1600 is 3200 - it is Dual Data Rate, so double it. You need to fit DDR4-3200 modules.

I am thinking of added an M2.NVME drive inside a 2.5" adapter shell in that space , for higher speeds --- do you think that would work ok ? thanks
@@opaque1797 If you're connecting a drive to the SATA header on the mainboard then an M.2 NVMe SSD won't work - its not compatible with the SATA interface. A SATA M.2 drive would, but then you might as well just buy a SATA 2.5" SSD.
@@BrueComputing thanks but what I mean is buying a special 2.5" SATA adapter housing for the NVME drive, so it fits inside and the external connector is just like a regular 2.5" SATA drive

Hey, Asus website says regarding memory in X415 - "4GB DDR4 on board, Memory Max Up to:12GB". Just wondering if you've tested this with a 16GB stick bringing the total to 20GB and if this actually works or if an 8GB stick is the highest capacity SODIMM that can be installed? Why u said it is only 12gb max ram?? When in fact when u cmd it the max ram that can it can have is 32GB??

i have tested it with a 16GB stick and it only register as 8GB totalling 12GB(including the 4GB soldered onto the board)

When I examine it with the cpuid programm,
There are two ram slots on the device (?) However, when we disassemble laptop, we see 4 gb ram connected to one ram slot. And when this ram is removed, the device does not turn on.
There is no onboard/soldered ram. So where is that second ram slot then? :))))

Dual channel works best if both sides of it are equal, but you get some benefit doing it that way still.
I did excatly like 4+8. They Said that first 8 gb working dual channel, 4 gb is working single channel

I Pretty sure u can add 2.4inch hdd or ssd there and conect it wia small cable plug it in hdd but i just dont know if there is more power needed

I used an extra 8 gigs (8+4=12) with similar frequency. But it gave me constant BSOD. Then when I downgraded it to 4 (4+4=8) it seems to work fine until now.
With 8+4, do you have bottleneck?
@@ehv940530 I did. The computer showed I had 12 gigs. But it didn't work like 12 and there was bluescreen issue.

There was no warranty seal broken during the upgrade process, but in the event of a claim you'd have to return the system to its original configuration.
If you damage anything in the process this may void the warranty as well.

A clean windows... That's a contradiction. On such underpowered machines just install Linux (not a candy cane variant like Mint or ?Buntu, but a true Slackware, preferably 32 bit) to have this machine fly by like a Vickers Valiant.
My main machine is a Dell Latitude E5570 with a core i3 6001 CPU with a WD black HDD and it is so darned fast...
