Tony Oladipo Allen was born in 1940 in Lagos. In 1964 he became a member of Fela Kuti's "Koola Lobitos" highlife-jazzband. In 1969, following a turbulent and educational trip to the United States, Fela developed a new sound, mixing soul with jazz, highlife, and the polyrhythmic patterns of Yoruba music.
Tony invented the rhythms that underpinned this new groove called Afrobeat. Allen recorded over 30 albums with Fela and his band Africa '70, arguably Fela's best works. But by the late 1970s, dissension was growing in the ranks of the band. Arguments over royalties/pay, and recognition grew in intensity. Allen chose to leave Africa '70, taking many members with him. Tony moved on by himself, once again in search of his own sound. In 1984 he emigrated to London, later moving to Paris. After fusing Afrobeat with electronica, dub, R&B, and rap referred to as afrofunk, he returns to his Afrobeat-roots with the album 'Lagos No Shaking' recorded live in Lagos in 2006. Tony Allen has influenced a range of artists across a number of genres. One of them, Damon Albarn sings: "Tony Allen got me dancing".
He's become one of my favorite drummers. Back ground singer, marry me lol. ❤
Im the singer..😅
@@ysee9987 Hey, thank you for replying back. You look and sound beautiful.
I agree with both considerations 😄

she was so beautiful
RIP MASTER BABA TONY ALLEN
Bass comes in, cameraman zooms guitar. #RESPECTTHEBASS. And RIP Tony.
Perhaps people who film musicians need to be able to play an instrument to avoid falling back on the cliché that audiences are only interested in either singers or guitarists. Personally, I always watch the drummer (and the bass player) - although in this case, all the musicians here are interesting. Such a groovy track. Infectious.
Yes I always watch the drummer
Just enjoy the Music..-)
who is the bass player...other band members? Can anybody tell me please. RIP the master time keeper of Afrobeat!
As a trap player. I'm asked from time to time have i played any other drums. Any other drum played without sticks, hurts like he'll to my hands. So no!! Lol
Saw this man on stage with his band in Italy 3 or 4 years ago, so warm and live performance! Feels like he had sticks instead of fingers.. Hope you're having a nice trip, wherever you are now
RIP Tony
Tony Allen was the backbone of Fela... shrine in the 70s was really fun (Fri was yabbis night, Sat was comprehensive show and then there was Sun jump).
r. i. p tony a true legend... The best drummer ive ever heard
I love Afro-Funk Jazz... Tony Allan, Fella Kutti etc.! This music is like perfect SEX!!!! Really good music and sex, should be the same!!!!
This one song has been my anthem for a long time and it will be for as long as I live. Tnx, mr Allen.
😊
I think Tony Allen's "Black Voices" is one of the coolest albums ever made.
wish i could hear her shekere in the mix, better...Got it. Right there with Baba's hi-hat...

Thanks 😅
this is the kind of music i want to play, and a bit of funk drums , not always afro beat... i really like what JoJo Mayer is doing now too with nerve.. some of the songs i can't like, but i like over half of their stuff with amazing drums.
Love this Band. Groove Masters Ya Fierce!!
If all this isn't real good grooving, then the whole world doesn't mean anything anymore !
I was there, it was the 25th anniversary of the Hertme African Festival. I have to say... I enjoyed other artists more at that event. RIP Tony.

sounds a bit like the legendary Fela A.Kuti-great !
Tony Allen was Fela's director of music and claimed to have collabrated in the invention of Afrobeat and broke with Fela in 1979, for Fela not givng him enough credit for the music
@@eduokuwah5328fela would eventually proclaim that “there would be no Afrobeat without Tony Allen”
you must have EARS to hear this.
Woah!
I'm pretty sure you have to have ears to hear anything?

Bof, bof !!
