the nintendo ds for me, it was 2006 with magical starsign and sonic rush 1 then in 2007 sonic rush adventure man. both screens thats why the sonic games on the gba are great, but on nintendo ds? simply epic!

I’m not sure what your point is. It’s no secret that these giant media events were always corporate hype machines. But for fans, they were also a fun time to enjoy reveals and sneak peaks.

otaku Essalhi I think E3 2002 was their best show, they had Metroid prime, Zelda wind waker, Super mario sunshine, Resident evil Zero, Starfox adventures, Animal crossing, Eternal darkness, Super monkey ball 2, Wario world and mario party 4. Those were just the gamecube exclusives.

This has got to be Nintendo's most epic press conference ever. DS reveal, tease of the Wii and a surprise Twilight Princess announcement with Miyamoto. And you can't forget introducing Reggie!
Reggie's retirement means he will be missed, but he seemed to strike a spark that I hope that Nintendo can continue on innovating and breaking the habits that the gaming industry have got into of late.
Edit: Also can't leave without saying anything about Iwata-san. He was a legend, and he too will be missed.

To put into perspective, Nintendo’s E3 showing in 2003 was lukewarm at best. People were doubting GameCube had enough good games to match the PS2 or even Xbox’s and there was a lot of fixation with the GBA link cable with games that didn’t look too interesting. The 2004 presentation did a 180 on Nintendo’s image and to recapture gamers that felt too old for Nintendo.

I think it’s universally considered one of the best video game conferences of all time. I can’t really think of another one that had this much spunk.
39:47 Yea Nintendo invented the D-pad, portable gaming, analog sticks, rumble in your controllers, and touch screen gaming. People like to hate on them now because they're a little "behind the times" but man...they can do what they want. They've accomplished more in one lifetime than any other company in the industry combined up to this point.
I hate to break it to you, but Nintendo didn't invent most of that, they just did it better than anyone else.

SO Nintendo goes and makes fun of it's competitors, states that a new console is in development, announces the DS and wraps it all up with the announcement of Twilight Princess. Wow... the don't do E3s like this anymore.

This is the E3 that rose every fan's expectations to insane heights and is the reason why they were disappointed nearly every subsequent year. This is their best E3.

There is a lot of win in this E3. But honestly, the main thing is that they had software to announce. When is the last time Nintendo has talked about two Mario games, a donkey kong, Pikmin, Metroid, and other second string games in ONE conference. That’s not even taking into account the reveal of a new piece of hardware.

The DS truly changed the industry. The first iPhone did not come out until 2007. The DS pushed the touch screen into new skylines.

When Miyamoto teases Twilight Princess and says "Link can't stand still, and neither can I" that's some clever lil Wii motion control foreshadowing!

This is what makes Nintendo great.
The best E3 of all time. We got the ds,reggies famous speech,handhelds taking control of the market and at the end myamoto with a sword and shield announcing the grown up zelda we been waiting for. No other E3 comes close to the excitement. Back then people cheered like crazy,now at E3 its like a funeral.
Did you not watch Sony's E3 2013. They got a standing ovation lol crowd went crazy and oh the FFXV and KH3 reactions....yeah maybe no one cheers for Nintendo anymore since their conference's aren't as good as they used to be.

oh nice shot to the competition. oh man this was a great press conference. it reminds of back in the days when games were about fun and creativity. back when developers took risks and e3 was fun and about the gamers, not the media and investors. it seems like after 2005, the industry lost its magic, its creativity. much love and respect to the golden days of gamming. I miss those those days.

I got a magazine back in 2004 with a DVD of this e3 conference in it, and here I'm googling this 13 years later to watch it all over again, Nintendo fucking killed it.
Aw memories, I remember when the DS was first shown to the world - being blown away by the fact we were getting a new handheld on par with N64. Then I was shocked that the system was so affordable so soon, (DS Lite) and got the new Pokémon at the time. :3
Man I just wanted Ocarina of Time on it. Took maybe another 7 years to finally come into place.
This was Reggie's gaming presentation debut with a major bang.

That was also the only time a Nintendo employee swore during a presentation to my knowledge

***** We can't keep getting hopeful year after year. They've changed their priorities, they've changed their strategies, and they've changed their core demographic. I don't expect any different this year, or the next.

***** I wish you were right, but there are a few things I can't ignore:
1. The only gamer-appealing game they have coming up is Smash Bros. MK8 would be out before E3 so it's irrelevant. Correct me if I'm wrong but I can't think of any other game they've announced.
2. Once again they're not doing a conference, and instead doing a Nintendo Direct. Personally, I find everything to be much more exciting and appealing when it's live on a stage. Is it just me?
3. Even if the Wii U won't sell, they'll still be fine with the 3DS. So they don't HAVE to.
If they announce a new Metroid, I'll take back everything I said :)

We will never see anything like this ever again. With Nintendo merging their Handheld and Home divisions, they are focused on Switch now and it's variants. We won't ever get a pocket sized handheld ever again....Switch being handheld is nice and all, but I can't fold it up and fit it in my pocket like the 3DS.

I recently got a DS for my wife. I gotta say so far I loved Ultimate MK3 in it because the top screen shows the list of moves and fatalities of your character. I've never been good at memorizing that kind of stuff so it's great to have it at hand to use it.
With the announcement of E3 being permanently gone, this will by far be one of the best memories I have for E3 history.

I can't BELIEVE this conference is 20 years old now lol. It's so iconic. The DS would go on to be one of the highest selling Nintendo consoles, the Wii reveal tease in hindsight is goosebump-inducing, and Zelda Twilight Princess would become a classic.

I know there are gaming tablets on the market this isn't a new idea or anything, you can even play them on your TV with a bluetooth controller like a console. But there is a lot of untapped potential there to really bring what gamers want (a portable gaming tablet on the go) to the table. You could even play such a console on a plane, in the back of a camper van, while your walking your dog or bring one to a party where you could some off the latest Super Mario game. Could you imagine how well Nintendo would do if they made and marketed a console such as this?

Omg i was so young then, i dont think i had anyway to watch any E3 videos. But Nintendo was really thinking ahead and for all kind of gamers. I remember the first Pokemon game i played. It was years after the release of Pokemon Ruby but weirdly enough, I wasnt aware that there were any Pokemon games on gba. I had my dad buy me Pokemon Ruby, that was probably the most excitement i ever had before playing and after playing a game. Thank you Nintendo for making my childhood much sweeter. And currently for making my day brighter.

20 Years Ago was when this legendary event happened, wow. I still remember reading the highlights about if from gaming magazines then, mostly talking about how much of a badass Reggie was and calling out the other journalists in the audience who started crying when the Twilight Princess trailer played hahaha.
The whole horse power doesn't matter anymore idea really set them back later.
The wii was so different from anything we had before that it sold like hot cakes even though the specs weren't nearly as advanced as the xbox360 or ps3 that came out a little later.
But woth the wiiu they kept the same mentality and that really came back to haunt them.
What about the switch? It's underpowered compared to its competition, and it's outselling everything on the market
People who weren’t around or weren’t even born yet during this time have no idea how important this was! Before Reggie Nintendo was in a really bad spot I remember the ps2 and x box fanboys would always trash Nintendo and called it a baby’s company and made fun of the game cube and the games Nintendo were making at the time and then comes Reggie who not only made Nintendo popular and cool again but gave us Nintendo fans a voice against the Ps2 and x box fanboys and gave us the confidence we needed! 20 years later I’m still thankful for Reggie and everything he did
This Nintendo at their best. I can only hope this year's E3 is this awesome. Heaven knows the Wii U needs it.
