The downgraded one looks like your game will look after following those boost FPS guides.
Bubble Double for real
Bubble Double and actually that's The reason for it was downgraded in The first place.
Edit: i wonder if Low Spec Gamer worked with From Software (?
The original demo ran like shit so they had to follow that FPS boost guide you talked about.
It still won't run well because fromsoft can't make good pc ports.
Butter Butt actually The port for DS 2 Is pretty good, i can Run it my laptop with Intel graphics 4000 at 40 fps (in low qualtity sure) and without need of some External mod like ds fix. Now The port for DS 1 and 3 on The other Hand...
A subtle detail I really love about the original is that when you light the bonfire its light then reveals the statue of the embracing woman. What an awesome way to reinforce that bonfires are the sparks of comfort and safety in the 'dark' of this world. Shame it got cut.
You can do that in the game...just use a sweetfx mod
@@ash_1419 they actually banned people in the early days for using any type of shader mod. Stupid ass FromSoftware
@@ash_1419 sweetfx doesn't add dynamic lighting and shadowing. It's just a glorified filter
I think they should remove all mentions of women
honestly, this entire situation feels like a sonic unleashed situation
that game looked way ahead of its time and they went for it, unfortunately it played like shit in a lot of areas and later sonic games made the graphics worse for playability
ds2 had a similar fate except they never released the super good graphics.
It looks better and worse at the same time
Preview - motion blur
Blur all round
Lighting and shadow FX
Final product - No ambience
Barely any lighting
Less blur
Higher fidelity of textures/higher resolution
No it doesn't, it just looks worse.
its brighter and more clear to see where your going. i do agree it looks worse but from a game play perspective i prefer the right.
It does, I want a mixture of both
I was thinking the same.
Your dedication to recreating the demo as closely as possible is the most impressive part of this video. I can’t imagine how long that took and I thank you for it cus the side-by-side view is super effective
The old one clearly had worse "graphical quality" (as in texture resolution, detail, etc), but it had much better and more fitting lighting, shading, atmosphere, and a more cohesive model style. The update just makes it look like an out of place asset flip game.
not even true, look at the giant sword at 5:00 the old quality is way better
Urm... i think its because the old one was still in beta?
the lighting was definetely better, not just artistically. However the rest was worse. I think they could not pull off that lighting on the old consoles
Noze I think they did it to be more fair. It’d be pretty bs if half the time you had to sacrifice a shield for a torch. It’d like if Tomb of the Giants was in multiple different areas. And they knew everyone hated that area, and likely why they made the new lighting more simple and fair
The old one had that Dark souls 1 look
This hurts more than I can imagine
"Perhaps you've seen it, maybe in a dream, a murky forgotten land"
I feel ya bro. Dark Souls 2 was the first(and only) pre-order I have ever got in my life. Nothing tops that sense of absolute despair I had when I saw the graphics and that shitty level design for the first time....... ;_;

Hey i watch your videos
LadyKraken Would you really rather have amazing graphics or good game performance?
Goes to show how lighting is as crucial as graphical quality
huge reason why the bluepoint demon souls remake looks so good. the lighting improvement is incredible
@lelandrb Bluepoint ballsed the Demon's Souls lighting up much more than it improved it. Took away a lot of the fantasy lighting in favor of realism in more cases than improvement.
In my opinion the best way to play Demon's Souls is on RPCS3 with the 60 fps patch and a simple resolution upscale.
@@420malbania4 if by "fantasy lighting" you mean "no lighting". pretty much every single from software, especially elden ring, has flat, neutral lighting. sometimes bright, sometimes dark. no surprise that adding lighting makes it more realistic
@@420malbania4 the tower of latria is a great example. the prison is just drab yellow and green in the original, which is randomly cast from the walls, lol. the remake has the green be emitted by flickering, sinister torches. way more atmospheric
@@lelandrb Yeah I can't stand the lighting in ER most of the time. There is no bloom. Funnily enough, ER has a lot of that DS2 look to it. DS2 with just lightingengine and 4k textures looks really good though. Honestly ER graphics are a step backwards. Bluepoint not even being a developer of the original game, still has the most next gen looking Souls game, and by extension, Fromsoft game.
After the Demon’s Souls remake let’s go back and fix Dark Souls 2

thank god the gutter exists
no, fuck the gutter.
Why, exactly? There were better lighting effects in some games made before 2008...
its not how good it looked, its how it was utilized, without torches you could barely see ahead of you, but with torches you could light up the place and from the 1st bonfire you could see these lights which were the torches you had lit up, probs the most original area in the game
@@TheSpyChecker there was better lighting effects in 1998, in Unreal
The final release definitely has a lot of improvements but they took a lot of steps back with the lighting and overall feel of the game. The preview version would’ve been such a blast and scary experience. Honestly if they would’ve just kept the lighting the same.
It was probably to optimize its performance. I remember this game ran smooth af
Sadly the game came out for the ps3 when the ps4 was already out, while most of the studio was working on an actual ps4 exclusive game. they didn't want to deliver laggy game again and had to remove all of the lighting system in the process, They could've revived it fot sotfs but didn't bothered to.

And the fact that they disappear as time goes on
@Zoe Kin Don't blame consoles for downgrading a game, are you saying that they removed lightning and dark places to be console compatible? Lol
@@leoortiiiz Yes, many other games have had to change their original vision to be able to be run on consoles. It would make since that consoles caused this as pc can easily handle it.
@@DukeoftheAges The creator of the mod that fixes the lightning said that it's because the game was rushed and made crossgem
@OX XY ds2 was originally supposed to be a ps4, xbox one game. But there were problems during development and bandai namco got annoyed so they fired the director and told the new one to release the game for ps3 and xbox 360 and way earlier than it was originally planned to release.
So yeah the game wasn't meant to be cross gen, only current gen. So despite wanting to shit on consoles like a typical redditor, the problem was that the game was rushed and had a new director half way through development. That's why a lot of areas in the final game are connected in such weird ways (you know, elevator up the sky). They had already made those levels but didn't have time to connect them properly

In the release, there are areas who look really lame and walls/floors that are just textures repeated, while in the old version/demo, the walls/floors had more than just repeated textures like in 1:51.
The particle effects are downgraded at almost non-existent as well. Particle effects that were present in sword hitting the enemies, using items. And the UI looked better in the demo as well.

Really, they downgraded DS3?
Well, Im sure it wasn't pathetic, like DS2 since I didn't notice a difference between the trailers and the game.
@@yeahwellthatsjustlikeyouro7466 They ditched a major feature from Dark Souls 2 like dynamic lights from torchs, you would notice it if you took the time to compare the graphics and features between sequels (as it should be, trailers and previews are bs propaganda as far back in early 2000, that's why i rarely watch them)
@@fnd2583
Dynamic lightning? In DS2? Torches?
Even in the "darkest" locations in the game like the Gultch torches weren't necessary.
And the only deceptive trailers I've come across are Ubisoft trailers (which I don't gave a damn about since I don't buy those) and Dark Souls 2. (This one did hurt)
@@yeahwellthatsjustlikeyouro7466 Torches where useful in some places(not much tho', blame the level designers but the potential was there), but it's more about graphical features (which is the main point off all the people complaints in regards to DS2). Torches and a lot of light sources in DS3 doesn't cast shadows like DS2 does(the exception is some static bonfires), there is even a dumb feature of stripping the main character of his own shadow if he is hollow(good job making the game uglier). I don't care that much about trailers, but sequels stripping good features from their predecessors pisses me off much more.

And they're doing it in these very comment sections. Dark Souls fanboys are right up there with Blizzdrones when it comes to delusion.
It's almost like aesthetic is a completely subjective topic that there is no right answer to.
Breh. Are you serious? The left objectively looks way fucking better. It has more advanced effects and better atmosphere. You can clearly see that the game was built around the darkness, but had to be downgraded last minute at 2:30 when the guy goes to pick up the torch. The torch is absolutely useless in the final version because the game is missing lighting effects.
Sketchy West117 Its not subjective because both iterations are trying to go for the same design philosophy. Its just that the left one achieved that visual philosophy much better. If we were discussing between two different styles of design in a game then yes, its subjective. But this video showcases texture resolution, polygons, pixel shading, lighting, geometry, etc. All of which are technical. ALL OF WHICH ARE QUANTITATIVE. Thus, its objective.

I like the dark , it adds a whole new dimension to the gameplay and force you to be even more careful instead of just rushing everything and going pass the mobs and challenges like some pussy likes to do..Ofc in those situation you want to see , nobody likes not seeing, we are like that in real life..When want the informations , we dont like unkown..WE dont like the dark..its incomfortable even in games , as if it is constantly missing something or constantly at a disadvantage. But when you start to see it from a gameplay perspective , and part of the game and challenge , instead of your own little desire , its actually enjoyable. See difficulties in game are a strange thing. We dont want it to be difficult , we like to succed. but not enough difficulty while we succed everytime , doesnt gives us that certain feeling of accomplishment.. ,Even if the game can make us rage , its actually because of that , that we likes it so much. Being forced to go through what we dont want to go through. Being forced into the uncomfortable , and getting out of that byu desire to be better is almost what characterise the darksouls special feeling. Deepdown.

@@MigBaez Dark Souls 2 has no atmosphere, because it has 2007 lighting. The only place that looks nice is Majula, where as DS3 and DS1 had beatiful scenery everywhere. @@gu3z185 I have a lot of friends with visual disabilities and functional eyes who think the same. The graphical change was necessary as the ones in the first game lack horridly of contrast, graphically speaking Dark Souls 1 aged a lot in terms of optimizatiom and graphical playability, its graphics although interesting these are physically tiring (after a while my eyes get watered down and pink when i'm forced to grasp in the environment). By other hand a lot of areas are full of framedrops that forced the fandom to depend on mods like Dsfix to do something about, in that mod to increase performance you need to sacrifice those graphical enchancenents. Not even Dark Souls Remastered fixes a lot of those problems as you require a pc with a lot of RAM even if you have a DX11 graphics card and the contrast is still bad (and to think those motherf*ckers of namco removed PtdE from sales in general thinking the ramastered could replace it).
I don't have issue with Dark Souls 3 in the graphic gameplay sense BUT that's what you you'd expect after two games, even though its optimization is as crappy as in ds1 even for console versions, i blame the shading in part of that too. Dark souls 2 is very good in both of those aspects: 2nd place in being visually approachable (imo) and 1rst place in being affordable for low spec gaming.
May be they could put a look in the middle for DSII (considering the existence of games like Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 which has good shading and optimization) but you have to consider the developers were missing time at the end to rethink the shading from the scratch. things like performance would have been sacrificed and i'm thankful they weren't.
That original lighting looked amazing! The dark areas of the game would have been way scarier. Too bad even sotfs didn't deliver.

they're definitely lying. he said in the video about graphic upgrade from ds1 which completely untrue
Med jed pfft, yeah... surely...
I remember back then that they promised that the game was going to have next-gen graphics.
I mean don't get me wrong, i'm sure gameplay is much more important than having just prettier graphics. However, if you're developer and if you make a promise to the fans, then you can't break it. Just look at what happened to Mighty No. 9.
The final game looks like someone turned on fullbright.
Thats why you have to use Reshade/SweetFX to remove that, works very well then and makes the areas useful again like torches are a must have
I remember how disapointing this game was when it came out, was harder than demon's souls and DS1, graphics looked outdated. then has weird glowing to everything way too bright overall ugly
@@jpeciv
It sucks because gameplay-wise its the best and most content rich Dark Souls we ever had with an amazing balance but the downgrade they did before release was just terrible. Like you said, its all too bright and every area looses its charm.
There is still a fix for PC and like that its quite good and absolutely my favorite and still the best but you also always feel the lost potencial
@@PuellaMagiHomuraAkemi It has the most content because they focused on quantity over quality. In terms of boss design, level design, and combat, it's easily the worst game of the entire series. Demon's Souls, Dark Souls 1 & 3, Bloodborne, and Sekiro are all far superior in these aspects. The only thing DS2 combat has going for it is PVP and power stance. But in terms of regular PVE combat, it's easily the weakest.
@@MarkHogan994
No they didn't. It is the opposite, what you talk doesn't make sense. It is combat-wise the absolute best be it PVP or PVE but the areas feel shallow in PVE which you can luckily fix with Reshade but the mechanics and the sheer content of weapons, armor and spells are there along with stats to make you stand out. It is by far the most QUALITY and detailed Dark Souls up to date by mechanics and content.
Boss battles aren't great though for the most part indeed but to call it the worst of the entire series is PLAIN wrong and absolutely retarded just for that. They aren't great but it doesn't make the game bad because enough other things are good.
If you think Bloodborne is superior look at DS3, its the worst contentless trash you can get with no mechanics because they put bloodborne in it.
Apart from that Bloodborne and Sekiro are their own things and designed for being their own things which works great.
If you wanna call the for the worst Dark Souls go for 3. Its terrible in every aspect as it has no mechanics at all and PVP is unplayable while PVE is just a R1 spamm. Wowie. It shows how you have absolutely no clue to call the combat in DS2 bad while its the best and most detailed in the series with its mechancis while DS3 is just spamm R1.
Shadows removed from almost all lights. Self shadowing gone. Lots of clutter is also removed. Extra ambient could be gameplay related, to add visibility. All in all, advertise your game with great graphics for a vertical slice, deceive consumers. Lighting was never in, clutter wasn't removed, but added specially for this vertical slice.
vtastek its a shame since this series already had a big fan base they didn’t need to make something to drag more people in and then lie to the entire group...im sure if they just showed something of the right it would have been fine but this isn’t the first ( and probably not the last) time this kind of thing has happened
Man dark souls is like the cup head of video games

it's like at some point they refused to give this game an art-style.
One thing that largely goes unappreciated about Dark Souls 2 graphics is that it doesn't have any aliasing problems and runs at a stable frame rate on any platform unlike Bloodborne, Dark Souls 3 and Dark Souls 1.
Except for 360 and PS3, man that game has a terrible framerate and screen tearing, specially on PS3
The pros of having a huge wallet but not soul.
DS2 ran horrible on PS3 and 360
bloodborne doesn't run well but it's actually a good game. And ds3 runs pretty well on low budget builds on pc.

10 years later I'm still upset at this.
"Unplayable before downgrade"
I refuse to believe that.
Just a Wimpod why?
i mean look at it. it's almost pitch black. you'd need a torch all the time, not allowing you to utilize your left hand gear. Especially since your torch won't light up automatically. you need a bonfire to light it.
also performance
Its completely unplayable now. Dark Souls 1 was legendary game and this is trash.
Jumal, How was it unplayable? It was still good and most people would agree with that, meanwhile no one went back to Dark Souls 1. They're either playing 3 or Bloodborne, mainly because the remaster of 1 reminded people it was nostalgia blinding them to the game's shitty pvp and dated four directional dodging and while still a good game too, the DkS1 remaster was dead after two months. Best Souls game has been Bloodborne. It took all the best from each one and perfected the mechanics.
Thv Vgu It sucks there's no other way to explain it. Also you're wrong many people would agree that DS1 is better than DS2 it said to be one of the best games ever made by many critics and i agree. So yeah might be hard to follow up a game after that but it didn't completely suck PVP was good, but it was definetly a downgrade and the weakest in the series.
Holy shit. At one point in time this game looked good.
Oh man, fancy seeing you here lmao.
Touche.
kinda looks like shit on both versions tbh
the graphics are better on the released version, only the light effects were much better
Chaosian01 released version looked way better 10:28
It's like they just switched off contrast, shadows and reflective lighting.
Pretty sad.

Wow, the graphics used to almost look like Demon's Souls and Bloodborne good.
RedHairdo That dark tone/shader was really good tho.
Have you played the game, if I had to play with a shader that intensive I'd probably throw up
I hope the remaster Dark Souls one.
Muley Me too
You can do it yourself on PC, I used a shader and replaced nearly every texture in the game, it runs at 60 fps and looks amazing!
TheTyphoon365 how?!?
Ds1 is perfect, it doesn’t need a remaster because it’s already da master
I wish they bring demon souls on PS4
why there's fucking torch if environment is so bright?
The torch gameplay was basically removed. It doesn’t do anything in the game anymore.
Demons Souls: dark and spooky
Dark Souls: dark and spooky
Dark Souls 3: dark and spooky
Bloodborne: dark and spooky
Dark Souls 2: bright and plastic
@@dopples9004 road of sacrifices? Farron keep? Irithyll? Ringed city?
@οὐτόπος ive played them all and I think ds2 is the weakest because it has no atmosphere. If not for the pvp it would be a crap game. Thats my opinion
@οὐτόπος you realize you just said ds2 is better than ds3 because ds3 has easy bosses, right? Ds2 has pathetic bosses compared to ds3
@οὐτόπος Ds2 has the least interesting bosses of any souls game. 90% of them are just a humanoid with a sword or something
οὐτόπος ds2 bosses are 40% ganks, if you think ds3 is repetitive, how about dumping 5/10/15/20 of an enemy found in the area before the boss room or a new but multiplied enemy and calling that a boss? Because that's dark souls 2. The singular humanoid bosses like pursurer, mirror knight, fume knight, even smelter demon all had boring attacks that were too similar to each other. Hell even Burnt Ivory King and Sir Alonne had very generic movesets as well.
I feel like the demo was too dark but that the final product is waaaay too bright
its not though
the problem with ds1 was that it was too fucking dark and the tomb of giants being a fucking nightmare to navigate without any other approach except the lanter or sunlight maggot or if you already knew the layout
this is why i absolutely hated the black gultch and gutter
When you leave a meme video for a crowbcat video
It's like doing the body good. :)
Way too much key lighting in the final release, you need to let the directional light from sources work, if i was a modder the thing i would consider doing is making the ambient (key) lighting less prominent, in order to let light express.
See how the left version looks kindda better even with ugly textures.
wow cuphead 2 looks great
HotCuppaClorox please don't compare that trash to dark souls
You realize comparing dark souls to everything is a joke right? At least the cuphead devs took time to release a polished game unlike this game.
cuphead is the cuphead of dark souls
I thought Cuphead was Dark Souls 4?
dark souls 1 was truly the cuphead of its era
“Should’ve kept making Armored Core.”

I actually played the the early build at comic con new York. It worked, so the graphics weren't just for show. They probably had to downgrade for the 360
Dark Souls 2 is so weird because it controls so floaty you'd think it was their first attempt at a souls game.
i mean as far as i know the devs were completely different people for ds2
I hate it when game developers Promise you good shit, And they release the final version in the form of diarrhea
I don't think they enjoy it either.
Aw... DS2 isn't THAT bad. I enjoyed it, but that's just me.
@Galactic Magic Dark Souls 2 isn't bad, its just worse than the other two, still a treasured souls game! Though I would LOVE if someday they gave us a version with the better graphics, and maybe a removal of soul memory
@@toozigooti You need to watch some MauLer my friend. I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it, but it IS definitely that bad.

Nomad2145 Lol ds3 didn’t have safe design
This downgrade is tragic. Even with it's poorer textures the original footage looks undeniably better and I'd rather play that one.
Honestly lighting can easily make or break a game graphically. So many games have flat colors due to terrible lighting. Luckily we've managed to delve into Ray Tracing to help fix this.
Maybe if they would tweak the alpha lighting a bit. It was a bit *too* dark at times, something like the Tomb of the Giants in DS1, which let's be honest - was a bullshit location to go through.
Idk what you are talking about, dark version looks unplayable
@Tiredofdumbfuks its meh. But atleast you can play it
@@lolwhatever7307 yea lol fuck games that are literally pitch black. Bitch I'm tryna play the game LEMME SEE WHAT THE FUCK IM DOING BRUH
If they do a remaster of ds2 that actually looks like the gameplay reveal(or even improve upon it), I'd buy it immediately on release.
Tiredofdumbfuks It's gonna be a big mess for him to fix
But then it would be Scholar of The Second Sin
Imagine trusting ds2 devs for anything
Even with and animation lock? Unfair deaths? Poor mechanics? Ok then.
Man, DS2 pre-downgrade looked like it had so much more soul.
See what i did there?
Basically Fromsoft originally wanted the game to be PS4/Xbone but Namco said to make it for PS3/360, and the current lighting could not run it at even 30fps, more like 15fps. So they downgraded it to make it sub 30 on PS3/360
i like how you are trying really hard to mimic every movement from the demo😂 good work!
The Dark Souls engine is shit. Most likely they could not optimize the performance and in the end decided to just downgrade the graphics and call it a day.
That is exactly what happened. Thanks B team!
Well, DSII performs much better on PC compared to DSI.
Juan Jimenez um no.
The network test (which was released merely few months before the game's) did run fine while looking closer to the reveal version than what we got (on top of having more gameplay elements).
Vaibhav Shah They used a different engine for 2. Why? Because they tried really hard to make a different (and terrible) game.
They took the life out of this game
Jesus, they took away the style the original had, the atmosphere, the details, sure the new one has better quality, and added/changed details, but I didn't expect it to be that bad of a change.
