Congratulations Tristan for your fantastic channel. It's great to see that your Awol manages to pass the ten-year inspection using our Marex OS-III propulsion control systems (formerly Rexroth now Aventics) with its fine adjustment to achieve maximum power from Caterpillar engines. For another ten years. Greetings from Spain. Fernando Carrera
To prevent that increase vs. decrease issue in the future, use increase and reduce instead. Those words can not be easily mixed up, even if there's background noise or static. That's why pilots do it that way. They do that with a lot of similar sounding words. For instance, a controller may tell them to descent, but will say "climb" instead of ascend.
I really appreciated seeing the results of the prop tuning. Watching those guys tuning them was really incredible. So happy you achieved the desired results. This is just one example of why you and your crew will continue to be an award winning team. How many. Crews(and owners, he foots the bill after all), would spen what probably amounts to thousands of dollars, just for a few extra rpm to speed match your engines for improved environmental efficiency. I used to drive tractor trailer, and even the salesman didn’t fully comprehend why I worried about rear end gear and transmission ratios so I could make sure my typical road speed would keep me in the engine sweet spot for most of my driving. I had the most powerful engine where I worked, yet I routinely had fuel consumption numbers of guy who where turning 1000 miles less per month. These kinds of attention to detail make such a huge difference
Great video. So glad AWOL is back cruising. The refit series has been magnificent. Congrats on passing your sea trials. Very much looking forward to your next video.
Hey Tristan, congrats on achieving your speed goals. I know you and the crew were very excited and are now looking forward to a charting season ahead. Can’t wait to see the boat from the drone and how beautiful she is now.
have to be a pleasure to cruise in Italy and Greece SO nice and funny people. Great food Great all !!!!!! I would learn italian in 3 months !!! Already master the BAD words !!! Hahaha !!!
Hey Tristan - on the ending screen you have that arrow subscribe thing. re-do in photoshop with red frame and arrow on a layer with a drop-shadow. remove or turn off the white background before dropping on editor. that way you get just the drop-shadow and no white clipping.
The vessle can be clean, the crew dressed smartly and the chocolate on the pillow, but if the engineering is not right, no one sleeps. Lol. Great job skipper.
Love those big Cats! You should have done a split screen with cameras and mic's in the engine room or possibly at the stern. That would have been awesome. I bet she was throwing one heck of a wake behind her!
I have just starting to watch your vlogs. I stumbled on them by accident and got sort of hooked on you and your staff. Barbara is amazing with her dedication and love of her job. We don't see to much of the rest of your stall but I sure would like to hear their stories. Thanks and keep the vlogs coming.
Barbara really is amazing with her attention to detail as well as her fantastic attitude. She will make a fine Captain for someone in the not too distant future, and God bless her, she has earned it!
I could not agree more. I see other crew members and would like to see more of them onboard and also hear what they do for fun. I have watch a few other vlogs of other captains but non come close to Tristan in making sure I understand what he is telling us. Keep up the excellent work!!!
Excellent video. Very technical and very interesting. A pity we couldn't se the prow and the stern during the record speed marks. Next time, may be we will see her fool speed sailing the waves. Thanks!
Loved the “Captain’s eye view” and seeing you explore the engine and prop characteristics. It would have been great if you had given us a brief overview of everything that the Sea Trial was going to explore even if we couldn’t watch it all. Lovely insight though, more please.
Hey Tristan, at 6:59, what is that thing in the ceiling right in front of your face?? And when your wife/girlfriend was coming up the steps to go help Barbara with the anchor, the way she looked and smiled at you really showed how much she loves you. She couldn't hide it even if she wanted too! lol You're a very lucky man!! ;)
Congratulations getting to target rpm. I’m currently having the props tuned on my 46 ft Motoryacht to get rpms up from 2450 to 2650. Also hoping that the two engines will have same max rpm. Very frustrating to have 30 rpm delta
Great news on the RPM / speed. I notice you don't have a stern thruster, is that a little limiting with other anchor chains around the stern, if unable to use main engines for sideways movement? I appreciate a good captain should not need a thruster to position the stern normally, what are your thoughts?
Tristan, we have been waiting so long for this. Great effort to you all. I have learnt so much from all your vlogs as we are closing in on a new Majesty 100. I will definitely be taking much from you to our yacht.
@@SuperYachtCaptain Jolly expensive toy. My first memory of Captain Cook was in 1949 when we visited Gisborne where N Z was discovered. The Majesty 100 will be berthed in Whangarei and we will do the figure 8 Cook did of NZ when he charted our beautiful country. A lifetime of dreams will come to fruition we hope. Look after your staff, or we could Nick a couple. 😂😅
How large a yacht are you qualified to captain? Would you feel comfortable handling a bigger boat? How long would it take for you to get comfortable with a 55 plus meter boat? Are you experienced in transatlantic crossings?
LOVE your VLOG and your crew! Keep up the great work! I was curious what is mounted on the bulkhead directly over the helm in the pilot house? I am still catching up with your channel so you may have already addressed it another episode.
I always wonder, and haven’t seen in these videos, whether you speak to the crews on either side to say you’re leaving at x time so they know to mind the fenders. Does that happen?
When sailing, the anchoring black ball must be removed from the bow. Seen at 14:11, when you had been sailing for a long time. It would be very convenient to comply with the navigation rules.
Queston: does this boat have stern thruster ? Bonus: I see you try to match engine rpm's manually. Dont you have the engine SYNC option, or this kind of test requires individual control ? Thks.
wwowwww 2300rpm are a LOT for an engine that size ... !! we run a way smaller one and it is also our max rpm with cruise rpm of 1950-2000 rpm/ impressed ... very fast engines !! we have CATs too ....

Tristan, you're an excellent captain and you have an wonderful crew. Glad you had great sea trials on AWOL.

Love the view of the Apuan Alps (@13 mins) in the background, spent two holidays there in a small village at the top of a mountain.
Outstanding !
Nice video... thanks for letting us see what it is like... (there is nothing like the rumble of those inboards... magnificent...)
Well done 18Knots excellent Tristan
What a great way to start a new season; great team work by all. Congratulations!
Very good! It’s nice to see the results from a long refit.
Good job Captain!

Congratulations Tristan on your run up
Brilliant! Great work team. All set for a great season. Keep em coming Capt!
Bloody awesome Tristan that’s pretty good speed from a big yacht👍🏻 congrats to you and your team for all your hard work 😓
Yaayyy.. And we back sailing. Learned a lot during the refit
I think it's very nice how you and your crew work together and how you get everything you need on the yacht
Cool as a cucumber mate ... well done.
Love the teamwork, nice work Capt T :)

12:47 absolutely stunning background for AWOL's fore decks of what looks like
Parco Nazionale dell'Appennino Tosco-Emiliano, behind Viareggio!!!
great perspective...
I would love to operate this just once after leave the dock, would make for a great bucket list....lol

Nice video.
Loved it seeing it from your eyes! How about from the First Offices eyes? Or Chief Engineers and/or Deck Hands eyes…. :-)
Nice to see the bridge during the tune up however would have been nice to look out at the sea when you were at 18+ knots as it went by?
Great work by the Engineering Team :-)
Very nice, appreciated. Thanks!
Great video Tristan!
Fantastic!!! Great video, any chance of seeing a full shot of the vessel from the dock.
Congrats on achieving the desired performance improvements. Finely tuned changes here really do seem to make quite a difference. Amazing.

Please describe the “prop tuning”. Did you change the pitch and blade shape? Thanks for the enjoyable videos.

New subscriber here i love your docking manuever
Great video. Amazing how minor adjusts in prop can have great benefits. Did you notice any handling differences in reverse from prop tune.

I’m certified to 3000GT. AWOL is 308GT
Fascinating stuff as always. Has the prop tune and engine rebuild had any effect on the ambient noise levels on the lower decks when underway?
Interesting!
Great video! Question....what is the “circular “ instrument above your helm station? Looking forward to the next update 😀
Manual compass i would expect

How does the cable grow? 'Red 30 short stay.....anchors away'
How are propellers tuned? Is throttle increase usually done so moderately instead of flooring it?

I really found your video very interesting not easy to do I love the pull out control
It seems that now, March 2022, all bloggers actually on yachts have gone. No first hand view is left for this year.
I recommend dropping the volume of your intro graphic by at least 10 db. Your videos are excellent and the intro is much too loud.
10 decibels too loud the intro was how do you know the settings on your equipment on fucked up and he's a right and you're just wrong cuz it sounds to me a couple of your wires are mixed up asshole

Why there wasn't an Alpha flag on the diving boat?
Cool
Why wasn't the small boat flying a flag to indicate that there was a diver in the water?
How do the crew of the other yachts next to you know when will you be leaving and they are there to check the fenders?
Thanks for answering. Keep posting those great videos man I can't get enough of them :).
Was the surveyor from MICS?
how deep is the water there?
I enjoy your videos but if they just show you and ignore what is happening outside they become a bit boring. Maybe some camera work as you progress from the deck or at least looking out a window. Thanks for your uploads.
👍
Due to the design factors of boat is it normal to have the engines slightly out of RPM sync with each other to effect best speed/burn/straight line?
Engines are counter rotating with each other, so one prop turns left while the other turns right. Making it so the boat runs perfectly straight. Its not normal to have at a higher rpm than the other, unless you are docking without thrusters. Then you can put one in reverse, one in forward and the boat turns on a dime.
