Thanks for watching! I saw them in September with Monuments! Got to meet them as well and get a signed poster. They're such a great band. In my Top 5 for sure!
The best part is that, if you pay close attention, the robots apparently considered "late 1990s IN AUSTRALIA" to be the 'pinnacle of civilization' (see 32:30 - that is clearly Westpac, AAP, Macquarie Bank and Mulpha who were major operators in the Sydney CBD at the time this was filmed). I mean, I don't want to act like my culture is better than anyone else's but when a bunch of fictional AIs decide my nation is better than yours, who am I to judge? (PS. I know this movie was filmed in Australia, I'm just kidding, don't crucify me)
@@CopiousDoinksLLC Well it was just before Australia started voting those authoritarian asses we saw in full show during covid etc so yeah it was when Australia was still good and from the best places.
14 years is a loooong life for a pupper. You must have given them a good life. I’m sorry for your loss and I’m glad your back with us feeling a bit more healed.
@@kaiielle bottom line, she lived her life to the full and did her job well -- she received and gave everlasting love. The last pup I had passed in 2009 and there's still an ache at times for missing him. It doesn't effect my life but I think it'll always be there. He was only 9 but I had two more years than you did. It's good to have a great pup for even 7 years 🤗
My condolences. We lost our 11 year old English Cocker earlier this year. And though I know it's cold comfort right now for you, I promise you there comes a time when the first thing that comes to mind isn't the sadness, but the joyful times with them. Until that time, the sorrow is proof of how much they meant to us. Take care.
And yep. Hugo Weaving IS Agent Smith. It’s how *we* were introduced to him (or many of us). Matrix was before Lord of the Rings & he’s perfection as Smith. “Mr. Anderson” lol
FUN FACT: Keanu Reeves's stunt double at this time was Chad Stahelski. If that name sounds familiar, he's the Director of the John Wick films. Chad also did 2nd unit directing on The Matrix sequels. He has a long history of stunt work and choreography in the business, from The Crow to Deadpool.
44:21 This kiss makes Trinity's code (through the code of the cookie that the Oracle gave her to eat) activate Neo's code (through the code of the cookie that the Oracle gave him to eat), which then makes NEO become ONE (a.k.a. "The One").
About Neo coming back to life with the kiss. Cinema Therapy made a really good comment on this from a point of view I never considered before. Her kiss reminded Neo's brain that he wasn't actually dead. In that, there wasn't any actual physical damage, so he woke up. Not sure if that's what the writers meant but it makes sense...
@@kaiielle Really? That's so cool. Ya they're awesome! BTW you can thank Popcorn In Bed for leading me to your channel lol Enjoy the trilogy. Might I recommend the Animatrix? Was put out by the Wachowski's that builds the world further and fills in story elements that are referred to in the sequels. To see those short films on the channel will be great since nobody has done them before on UA-cam but they do so much for the experience of The Matrix! Anyway, one can always hope lol

At the very least, by not seeing The Matrix before you can now experience it for the first time and share your genuine reactions with you audience. Great takes as always. Really liked the recent collab with OGB as well.
Apologies if it's already on your list but there's an animated anthology called "The Animatrix" that fills in a lot of blanks about how we got here, and also one of the stories serves as a bridge between the first and second movies.
Regarding the kiss - I think of it as Neo in the Matrix realizes he's not dead because his body can feel Trinity's kiss. His digital consciousness then restarts his body and revives his dsi in full One mode. The depth to which The One exists in and out of the Matrix at all times is explored later.
It's also another of the Oracle's statements proving true, when she says that Neo has "the gift" but that "it's waiting for something ... another life, maybe". Neo dies and then comes back to life as the One, "another life". The Oracle says it so casually I definitely missed the connection the first few times I watched the movie.
I never thought of it as Neo came back to life. I think he never died, which is how the prophecies of Neo being “The One” and Trinity being in love with The One are realized.
@@gchild1286 It's potentially both. Normally, when a person dies in the Matrix, their mind processes that as real death, so they just die. Neo "died" in the Matrix... but through Trinity's prompting, the part of him that's still in the real world is able to acknowledge that the Matrix isn't real, so he essentially ignores his death... and that's the catalyst for him being able to see through the Matrix and understand it on a deeper level.
@@N0-1_H3r3 I think if that was true, more people would survive their death in the matrix. For example Apoch would feel Switch tending to his body and restart.
I love that the word Neo rearranged is One. It's such a basic clue/in-your-face concept, but you'd be surprised how many people didn't see it until pointed out.
I'm sorry for your loss. It sounds like your dog lived a long, comfortable life with lots of love. The Oracle pretty much let Neo tell her he wasn't the one. She then told him he had the gift but was probably waiting for something - his next life perhaps. In a symbolic way, he did die and was reborn.
Remember Trinity has been watching Neo for a very long time. Monitoring and following him through The Matrix. So she started to develop feelings for him.
1) nice Jinjer shirt 2) the radio in the Oracle’s apartment is playing “I’m beginning to see the light”… old big band standard by Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington .. nice little detail related to their conversation
It's too bad you were already aware of the nature of the Matrix. Seeing this in the theater when it opened, nobody had any idea, and were all "WTF is happening? Why can Trinity run up walls? Why can she jump so far? Where did she go in the phone booth? What happened to Neo in the interrogation room?" until it was finally explained.
Honestly I feel that's the biggest thing when you see modern reactions to it, everyone just goes "Oh, so she has 'powers'?" in response to her jump. The fact that this came out before Marvel normalized superpowers in a grounded "realistic" setting is probably the biggest cultural gap people have without being aware of it.
About the kiss at the end, it looks just cheesy at the beggining, but do you remember the Oracle's words for Neo? "Sorry, kid. You got the gift, but it looks like you're waiting for something... Your next life, maybe." And then he dies and comes back as The One.
10:56 The reflection in his glasses had to be faked because it's impossible to see him in both lenses at once. The glasses Laurence wore are actually solid green, rather than reflective.
I'm glad you finally saw this movie. It is such a masterpiece, and the impact it had when it came out cannot be understated. Hugo Weaving was indeed fabulous as Agent Smith. Just like you, I love the Déjà Vu scene. Another dialogue that is not often remembered or quoted (probably because it is so close to the pills part), is when Neo answers that he doesn't believe in fate, and follows it by "Because I don't like the idea that I'm not in control of my life". I think it holds a very important weight even outside this movie. I feel it's a motto people should live by. And my condolences in regards to Ella 😔💕
It sounds to me like you're suggesting the love angle between Neo and Trinity is just tagged on, but this isn't the case. Trinity's feelings for Neo are shown subtly throughout the film; she's also been watching him for a long time before she even "meets" him, remember. I think it's a very strong part of the film and works very well.
Sorry to keep banging the drum, given you say you will in the video, but I just want to be in ahead of all the people telling you not to watch either all the sequels or the most recent sequel, but I do think all four of the Matrix movies are essential parts of the story. The other chapters may not be as perfectly realized as this one, which is definitely the best movie in the series, but I like all of them to varying degrees. Even the third one, which I think is the weakest, has my favorite scene in the whole series in it (which obviously I won't explain now). Given the Wachowski sisters have both come out as trans since the release of the first three Matrix movies, I think people would find ways to read that into the movies whether it was there or not, but they have confirmed in interviews that it was a conscious part of the movie. The idea of waking up and moving through the world with the feeling that something is fundamentally not right, that's an obvious parallel. There is also a story that Lana Wachowski had some dark ideation on a subway platform, which later inspired the scene where Neo fights Smith in the subway, and the scene ends with him claiming Neo as his real name, and not Thomas Anderson, the name he left behind. Religion/faith is definitely a theme running through these movies, as is philosophy. When the guy visits Neo's apartment at the beginning looking for that disk, it's hidden in a copy of Simulacra and Simulation, a key text in the movie's themes. When first three Matrix movies were released on Blu-ray, they included commentaries by philosophers instead of the filmmakers, who weren't interested on commenting themselves. As for the true love element that exists at the climactic moment, I think one of the most important things to understand about the Wachowski sisters is that they are deeply sentimental filmmakers. Their earnestness is definitely something that people have a love-hate relationship with, but I'm on board, and they have revealed more of it in their films and work as their careers have progressed (Cloud Atlas, in particular, is an overwhelmingly emotional film). Although I like basically every movie the sisters have made, their best in my opinion is still their debut film, Bound. They had intended to make The Matrix first, but when they presented it to Warner Bros., the studio wouldn't sign off on the budget with two first-time filmmakers, so they went off and wrote Bound in like a week and made it independently, and afterward, Warner agreed to make the movie. It's a landmark queer film and a landmark neo-noir, and I highly recommend it (although there are a couple of hot and heavy parts in the first half that might be tough to work with re: UA-cam community standards). I also highly recommend Speed Racer and Cloud Atlas, as well as V For Vendetta, which they produced and co-wrote but did not direct. Also, fun fact: this was where Keanu met Chad Stahelski. Stahelski was Keanu's stunt double on the first three movies, and then later went onto co-direct the first John Wick movie and direct the three sequels solo.
@@vinnycordeiro regarding the trans identity in the movie, Switch was meant to be explicitly trans as a male in the Matrix and a woman in the real world (hence, "Switch") but the 90s were not the time for that. They still tried to do it in a subtle way.
I have to say that this is probably the best reactions to this movie that I've watched, and I have watched over a dozen of them. The highlights of this one are the phenomenal editing, down to isolating speech to avoid music copyright while maintaining an extremely clear dialogue. Also, for including the most important scenes and details, which in this movie is 98% of it. First time watching this channel, not the last - subbed!
This is a VERY kind comment, thank you so much for taking the time to let me know. I work hard on the editing process so I am happy to see that it's appreciated. 😊
Most people who watch this for the first time now can't really go into this fully blind because of pop culture. When I saw it in the cinema it was mind blowing. Bullet time, the world is a simulation, fight scenes, questions about fate vs free will. This wasn't really touched upon in anything I've seen before. And A.I. taking over has been done before in great movies, but this was different somehow. I can't quite put my finger on it, but it stood out among other A.I. stories. The Trinity kiss thing I didn't have a problem with, but I've noticed it has been brought in issues more recently. For me it comes back to fate vs free will thing. Do you choose to love someone or not. Sounds a bit like Jaime Lannister thinking. lol As for the sequels, some have issues with them, not me. I like them. It asks more questions again. Purpose, destiny, truth. I hope you watch The Animatrix too. I saw them before I saw the sequels and they are amazing, world building, especially The Second Renaissance. Also, I can't remember if you said in a past video you were a Longmire fan in a past video. If you are, does anyone look familiar? 🤔
This movie was so well thought out, every comment made about Neo from the beginning, turned out to be true. So Trinity loving Neo was told to her by the oracle. It was part of the story. Neo was waiting for his next life to become the one. So he had to die and then comeback as the one. His boss talked about the rules don’t apply to him. The guy that knocked on his door called him “my own personal Jesus Christ”. They told you he was the one through out the movie. In 1999, I saw the movie 18 times in the theater. This movie is one my lifetime’s favorites. I enjoyed your reaction.
So sorry for ur loss, mama. It’s been 8+ years for me & I still miss him every day. I wear a silver dog tag w/his name & a little message on it. I never take it off. It weirdly helps to…idk have him w/me? Don’t ever feel bad for grieving, either. However long it takes.
Oh, also, another movie that is visually stunning and has many themes and ideas in common with The Matrix is called Dark City. It actually came out the year before, so many view it as The Matrix before The Matrix. I probably already put it in your form if it's not on your LBX, but in particular I think most people who would tell you to watch it would vote for the Director's Cut, which should be widely available online. It looks like the DC is on Prime in Canada, but if you do have to settle for the theatrical cut, the main thing you can do to make the experience more enjoyable would be to silence the first couple of minutes. One of the big sticking points that the director, Alex Proyas (The Crow) wanted to remove from the film was voiceover added on top of the first shot that explains a bunch of plot points that are supposed to be revealed as the movie goes on. The studio insisted on it, but if course it takes away some of the film's mystery and intrigue.
I also rather liked ExistenZ which was basically the Matrix meets Inception but with weird fleshy biohacking instead of neon green and Jude Law instead of Keanu Reaves.
I've read that in the original script, the humans were being grown so that their brains can be used to run the AI of the machines, because they make good AI computers. But the studio thought that this would be incomprehensible to the public, so they changed it to humans being used as batteries, which makes no sense because of the law of conservation of energy, but it sounds good enough for a movie. The original premise would also explain how agents take over people's brains in the matrix (or "bodies" in the simulation), and I like to think that that's what's really going on.
Its really the only thing that makes sense. If the machines were just using humans as power units, there'd be no need for humans to be conscious...thus negating the need for a simulated digital world
@@myopinion69420 No, they didn't. It wasn't just a case of studio exec interference, they tested it (as they always do) and that was a problem the audience had.
The common explanation for "love kiss" stuff is that Trinity send a signal to his mind that he's not really dead, but for me it's still a bit dodgy, because if that's the case then why no one thought about it before? Although, the writing is perfect, my favourite part is that The Oracle never said that Neo is not the one - he said it himself! Not only that, she also said he's waiting for another life! And she said that so seamlessly that it's almost impossible to catch on your first watch. That was mind blowing for me when I realised that.
This is the first reaction I've seen of yours, and I have to say I love your.. 'rhythm'. You're focussed and work with the beats and flow of the storytelling, so when you speak throughout the film, it's during moments that never overlap what might be significant information you could otherwise miss. And when you do speak I find it interesting and articulate. I like all kinds of reactors, but the ones that feel in that kind of balance to me, are my faves. Glad I found you!
When this movie came out, Keanu was NOT known for any kind of martial arts action. And this was before any kind of deepfake that would let you think someone else was doing the stunts. It was super shocking to see actors like Keanu and Lawrence doing chained kicks that seriously looked LEGIT, and without any camera tricks like Taken's 15 cuts per second (or 3 cuts per arm swing). It's super rare that something like that catches you so off guard, and that was just a nice little surprise to really get me really engaged in this movie. Also, the marketing for this movie was almost non-existent. No one knew the plot twist or that "the matrix" was an actual thing. I thought this was just gonna be some lame summer fare with some spare effects, like "Jumper" (with Hayden Christensen before he quit acting). Boy were we all wrong!!! Everyone copied this movie after it came out, it was a cultural phenomenon -- so much so that you could accurately recite quite a lot about the story without having seen it.
I'm so sorry for your loss. May your fur-baby be at peace, playing by the Rainbow Bridge. Back in May I watched my 16 year old, born deaf/blind, Aussie Shepherd pass away. Shortly afterwards, I buried her in the backyard...in a grave prepared for her in advance of her death. For 14 years she was my life, and I hers (she was a foster from an old HS friend). She was my heart-dog. A day doesn't go by without me thinking about that beautiful, stubborn, and ever loyal and loving blizzard of a dog (double-coat of fine, fluffy, white fur that killed a number of vacuums over the years...but that's life with this too smart for their own good breed). Take your time and grieve in whatever way, and for however long, that you need. Plenty of us fellow pet owners know where you're at.
"There is no spoon" 🤯🤯This is one of my favorite movies. I can't wait to see your reaction to the rest of them. I was so sorry to hear about your dog, I went through the same things several years ago. Take care! 🤗🤗
Watched this twice in cinemas way back during college times. Was such a trend setter with the trenchcoats, glasses, philosophy and kung fu. And it appeals to a young adults feeling that the world isn't quiet real.
So sorry for your loss, recently I lost 3 cats to different illnesses, a 15-year-old cat and her daughters who were 12 and 11 all in a 10-month period. It never heals but we learn to live with it.
The most industry breaking movies in my lifetime were the SW OG trilogy, Independence Day, The Matrix, Avatar, and Inception. Also not based on previously popular I.P’s or building off the popularity of something similar.
Great reaction and I’m sorry to hear about your dog. Having family move on is never easy. Hopefully all the great memories bring you comfort until you meet again.
“I remembered all the philosophical and psychological aspects of the script, I had forgotten all of that. And Morpheus…. scared the shit out of me.” -Laurence Fishborne on seeing The Matrix for the first time. One of the greatest, most influential, perfect sci fi movies ever made. 💚 it so much, one of my favorites, I’m also one of those weirdos who will defend the rest of them as movies I like. Please look into doing the Aminatrix before going on to the sequels. Genuinely a movie you have to watch five or six times to see all the hidden nuggets. A handful for you, Switch calls Neo “copper top” when she meets him for the first time… because he’s still plugged into the power plant and is a battery still. Room 303 is where the movie starts, which is why Smith knows to go there, it’s where Trinity had her initial fight scene. Neo is The One and people frequently use the term Jesus (or derivatives like “scared the bejesus out of me”) throughout the movie… also, Neo and One are anagrams.
Just found your channel through this and what a great reaction, and sorry about your pupper. The Wachowskis are amazing and this whole series is so thought provoking. I remember seeing it in theaters with my older brother when it came out when we were young teens and it blew my mind and you can still see the impact the movies have today. Hugo Weaving, who plays Agent Smith, is also a very talented actor, and has been in a wide array of movies.
Sorry about your dog. About a year ago we had to say goodbye to our dog, almost 14, who we had since he was 3 months old. (Also lost 5 cats from 2016-2019, four we had from kittens, the fifth an adult stray. Also between 14 and 16 years old.) An intriguing throwaway line from the Oracle, when she told Neo he wasn't The One, was that he was waiting for something - the next life, maybe. Turns out that was, of course, spot on, because he did have to die first before "unlocking" The One. You'll find out that there are no throwaway lines in this entire series. After seeing them all, go back and see how this one is in light of the end story. Sort of like watching the Star Wars episodes in chronological order, where lines from A New Hope have a whole new meaning after seeing Ep. 1-3. :) On your comment about not liking Trinity's confession of her love for Neo and him coming back from being dead, the mind dying in the Matrix precedes the body, and her kiss (and her adrenaline shot to help keep him alive) was the sensory trigger to stimulate him into reviving in the Matrix - where he always had the ability to defy death in that way, but had not yet put it to the test. Again, the Oracle knowing all of this is because she is also plugged into the Matrix, and has access to all of their thoughts and feelings in some respect. As was mentioned about free will, there was no certainty of how it would turn out, but the Oracle knew that connection was the important one. She knew how the future should unfold, even if no one knew at the time they would ever get to that point.
Thanks for saying that and sorry for your losses as well. I definitely didn't *totally* get the ending, it makes a bit more sense after some of you have explained so thank you!
💚🔋Sorry for your loss, hope your grief is relatively short-lived and that the 13 year old girl controlling all of us loved your pup at least as much as you did (and still do). Glad for you to finally got to see this. It's one of the great mind f*** movies. For anyone wondering about the glasses who hasn't yet looked them up... Pince-Nez is the type of glasses Morpheus wears. There's a spring and they pinch onto the bridge of your nose.
This movie was such an impact. You can trace so many trends back to this. Idk if they started them, but definitely cemented them, especially what's known now as "bullet time." Me and my friends all tried to see how far we could bend back like Neo. Went to the midnight showing of all of them. You will have your own opinions of them, and that's fine 🔋
after finding my first reaction channel, i was gobsmacked at how many people havent seen movies that i assumed EVERYone had seen... its crazy, but also fun being able to experience a movie again for the first time...
The ending is pretty self-contained. One of its best qualities is how you don't REALLY need to see more. The rest would just be fluff...and, as the sequels would prove, that's exactly what we got.
The ending of the movie wraps up just fine, as long as you forget the whole point of Neo as most probably did. In the end, all he did was save Morpheus and prove he could pause a bullet in flight. Pretty weak for a savior. It finally came to fruition at the end of the third, making it a very long process to get to the point as outlined in the beginning.
I find it interesting that the Wichowski's used such a religious tone in the movie (Neo prophesied to return and save the world, #303 and Trinity representing the Godhead, Nebuchadnezzar was the king of Babylon in the Old Testament, Cypher is "Judas" the traitor), within the theme of being controlled by A.I. The brilliance of this script is almost biblical -- so many clues and 'misses' that you see when you rewatch. Great reaction, glad to have you back k!
I always like watching the Oracle dance around words to get Neo to tell her what she wants to hear. She didn't tell him he wasn't the One. She got him to tell her if he believed he was the One. "But then you already know what I'm going to tell you." And then when he said he didn't believe, she told basically told him he could be if he wanted to be. "Looks like you're waiting for something."
I'm new so, I'm sorry to hear about your loss 😢💔❤️ I've been there, there are no words..... virtual hug 🤗 There's over 300 comments so it's possible it's been touched on, but i have to...too lol. Even for the smartest and most perceptive ppl, the Matrix is a movie that requires multiple viewings to fully understand and appreciate, i hope you watch it at least one more time in the near future. The great shots weren't just that, they were new techniques and ways of filming never used before, the Matrix (Wachowski Brothers (now sisters) literally revolutionized film making. You were half right, There's one mistake in the movie, the way Trinity words her love at the end where it makes it seem it's her love that revives him and while beautiful and heartfelt, its not it at all. If you watch the Oracle scene again, she basically tells us everything that will happen. He wasn't the one that day, "you have the gift but you're waiting for something", "For what?" "Another/Next life" "One of you is going to die". Trinity didn't revive him, she simply pointed out he couldn't be dead because he's the one, the reason she knows he's the one is because shes inlove and thats what the Oracle said, never that she would give him life or revive him. He had to die to become the one, it was the final step for him to become connected to the Matrix as a program, destroying Smith like an... anti-virus as he's part of the system now. Love does play a big role in all movies but it's at a conscious level in decision making not fairytale kisses lol My apologies for to long comment, hope this helped, and i hope you'll watch the others with an open mind, there can't be another matrix, new levels, new adventures ❤
For me, it's hard to under-state how defining this movie was for me. In 99, I was a Soph in HS. This was one of the first R-rated movies I ever saw, with friends at a theater. It was absolutely incredible - the ideas, the tropes, the execution and style... Smith's monologue about how humanity was a virus seriously influenced my outlook on the world for a LONG TIME. It made so much sense! One of my all-time favorite movies!!! The Soundtrack is absolutely banging too - "Spybreak" was on my playlist on repeat for years and years - and the Hot Rod Herman remix of Dragula is just amazing.
I am so very sorry for your loss. There's no platitude that could possibly make a dent in that kind of pain, but I do hope that you can remember that you gave her a good life with you, filled with love. Every moment that you had with her is no less real or no less meaningful simply for being in the past. ❤
I am so sorry for your loss. I know what it feels like to have to say goodbye to someone you loved for a long time. My cat Smokey lived 18yrs and I had to say goodbye. For me, music, a song reminds me of someone I loved and still grieve over. For Smokey, it’s Green Day’s ‘Time of Your Life’. 💕
Great video, it was fun reviewing the film with your fresh input! Your insight into the movie and its plot was a lot more intelligent and logical than mine was, when I first watched it! Your video was fun to watch. I hope your dog rests in peace; losing pets, loved ones, is incredibly painful. I'm sure you and your dog have wonderful memories.
I read that Switch the blonde woman with short hair originally was supposed to be one gender outside the matrix and then another gender inside the matrix but it was considered too confusing to keep track so they just kept her the same.
i agree that token romances are overused in movies, although i think this romance was carefully considered. i like that Trinity is somewhat in a mentor/protector role early in the movie, and at the end it is Trinity that brings Neo back (not the other way around). i especially like that the movie doesnt have gushing romantic gestures, its more like an underlying layer thats there if you look for it, while simultaneously being a crutial phase of Neo's self actualization.
17:48 - It took the actors around 8 months to train before filming started and they kept training throughout the shoot. The spookiest part is that quantum theory is starting to see evidence that we might be living in a simulation, though not a computer generated one.
Kaielle, great reaction! Hope you are ok. I have a rescue doggie now. He's such a big baby. I'm glad you had the years with your dog that you did. ❤. The next two are a direct continuation and are very good. Glad you're here.
"Trinity" is in Marvel's "Jessica Jones" series, Agent Smith is the lead in the DC Comics "V for Vendetta," Morpheus has a supporting role in Marvel's "Ant Man and the Wasp," and Keanu's contribution to comic book culture in cinema so far is just DC's "Constantine," so far as I know. As for this movie ... it's funny how people are so plugged in these days, and yet they seem to know less about the real world and the world as it has been. The Matrix is creeping up on us.
So sorry for your loss….Matrix is mind-blowing every time I rewatch it…..and it was a pleasure watching this reaction….you’re good company…thanks for posting….
Sorry to hear about the loss of your dog. I had to put down my dog we had for 13 years on October 7th. She had kidney disease and was not doing well. I was glad to see you and Cassie together reacting to Hook. It looked like that get together and movie really lifted your spirits. I hope you are doing well during this tough time.
Kaiielle-I saw this in the theater & still say Deja vu is a glitch in the matrix when I get it. Or anyone else says it. So does everyone I know. Now that u’ve seen this-u’ll hear others say it & u will too😉
Great reaction. On the question of why AI would create war disease, etc etc, I take this movie as an opportunity to question everything. For example, how can you be sure that you aren’t just reliving the same 14 seconds over and over again and your memories are implanted?
💚 This movie really just rules so much. Iconic and game changing. I get the 'sometimes good sometimes bad' love element thing you spoke about, it's absolutely personal and based on vibes. I think when I first saw this I was like yeah guess it's okay they did that, but now years later (many rewatches plus the sequels) I'm 100% Trinity+Neo 4eva lol
Love this movie to death, the Wackowskis are creative geniuses, love how most dialogue in the movie walks the metaphorical tightrope "Why do my eyes hurt?... You've never used them before"
Some trivia for ya. The streets named in the Matrix are Chicago(my hometown) street names. When Neo said, "Whoa" before jumping off the rooftop, that was a nod to Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventures. When Neo said, "Guns. Lots of guns." Keanu also says this in John Wick as a nod to The Matrix. After Neo fights Mr. Smith, then steals a man's cell phone, when he says, "Mr. Wizard, get me out of here!" Mr. Wizard is referring to a children's cartoon. Keep in mind, the reason being in The Matrix is dangerous is because ANYONE that sees them automatically connects to an Agent. Now think about all the people around you everyday! That's insane! And great writing! Beautiful editing by the way. I really mean it. And my most sincere condolences in regards to your loss. Our furry friends are some of the biggest piece of what we call life.
Went to the premiere of this on a date night with my 9month pregnant wife believing that this would be the last movie date night we would have before we become 1st time parents. This movie will always be apart of the fam.😮😂
For the fight scenes, they trained for months with Yuen Woo-ping's team (legendary martial artist behind the best fight scenes from asian movies) and they all suffered injury at one point Hugo Weaving injured his leg and had to have a surgery Lawrence Fishburne busted a wrist Carry Ann Moss broke an ankle (and she hid it to the crew because she feared to be replaced by another actress) And lastly, Keanu Reeves had vertebrae to be fused to avoid partial paralysis (it's the reason he uses mostly his harms instead of his legs in most of the fight scenes) Little fun fact, one of Keanu's stunt double was Chad Stalhelsky who later directed the John Wick franchise
My deepest condolences on the loss of your dog Kaielle, the loss of a beloved member of our family is always hard. I lost my dog Joey like 7 years ago now , 😢 it never gets easy but you try to remember the good times you shared. 13 and seeing this movie for the 1st time in the theater with my friend and his dad was so cool and I didn't even understand yet just how connected to our lives it would become. I loved your post viewing discussion, you made some very interesting observations. No matter how many times you see it it never fails to amaze . I kind of get what you mean about the whole kiss thing (sorry I get ranty) you took the red pill and went down the rabbit whole congrats .
I have a trinity (no pun intended) of action classics that I adore above all others, and this is one of them. The other two are Terminator 2 and Aliens. I've seen a bunch of amazing movies after those three but none that have lodged themselves into my very being the way those three have. It's difficult to overstate how revolutionary this movie was when it came out. Not only on a technical level (although, oh my god, was it revolutionary there!) but also on a philosophical level. So many truly hardcore sci-fi concepts were introduced in this movie. Simulation theory was entirely unheard of, at least as far as storytelling goes. The actual theory goes back much further than the movie but was really niche at the time and not something people in general had any exposure to. The sequels suffered a ton by taking years to materialize and then not revolutionize the medium the way this movie did, and I remember being really disappointed with the second one when I saw it in a movie theatre upon release. I don't think I saw the third one before it came out on video, and was disappointed with it as well. However, having viewed them since, I've found a lot to love with them as well. The second one in particular has...well, I won't spoil anything beyond saying that it has my favorite action scene from any movie ever. Bar none. It's not even close. I really look forward to seeing your reaction to it. :) (Sorry about your pup btw. Stuff like that is heartbreaking. It sucks.)
Hi Kaiielle. Sorry to hear about your pup. I lost mine over 10 years ago and still miss him every day. Kinda good to know though that he's still in my memories. Saw this when it came out when I would have been 28. I was shocked at it conceptually. I'd graduated University with a Philosophy Degree and everything in this is built on some very, very old philosophical concepts. Add that to some very cool visual styling and you've got magic. Sadly, like too many others, they made sequels... Hope you enjoy.
I've meaning to drop by, and you popped up in Recommended last night, so I gave it a whirl. Blown away. Excellent commentary and review. I initially thought that it was back-catalog, and you could have knocked me over with a feather when I noticed that it was recent. Better late than never, Chica. Sorry to hear about your pupper. I've lost a few, and it's always a gut-punch.
This movie came out on the day of my 21st birthday. Instead of going out drinking like most 21 year old's, The huge nerd I am went to see The Matrix at the Drive in Movie Theater. It was the last movie our drive in ever ran before closing forever. I went the next day and got a tattoo "There is no spoon".
Pretty cool reaction. The Matrix is one of my favorite movies of all time and the whole Trilogy gets lots of love tbh. The Matrix is however one of most important films imo as well. The "kiss of life" as I call it from Trinity was I believe, to show the true power of love, coupled with strong belief and will.....it's a force so strong it can overcome even the very spectre of death.....VERY powerful scene looking back at it... All in all - as it was said before, The Matrix isnt simply a movie...its a documentary 👀. Be safe. Peace love and light.
LOL thank you. I am someone who doesn't care for a *lot* of mid-reaction edits, but I like to throw the odd one in once in a while when it feels worth it. It's usually when Editor Me is making fun of Reaction Me.
6:23 NOKIA Banana. I really wanted to have one back then. Instead, I had a brick called a Motorola D160. I still have it with all its accessories and suitcase-sized packaging. An indestructible machine.
One of my fav movies of the 90s. But i'll count it as the start of the milennium. This movie was mindblowing and left you with so many questions. Mind you I was 12 when I first saw the movie, and had to watch it at least twice after this to fully understand the concept of the Matrix. . The Lobby shootout scene to me is one of the most iconic scenes in a movie, and is one i'll never forget. Ended up buying it on VHS so I could watch it over and over....
dejavu always been trippy for me, also seeing 1111 always been special to me. everytime i dejavu or see 1111 i noticed something is going to happen in my path in life.. but kinda question's my idea of fate and free will.. but i love this movie, it was out of its time when it came out in the 90s.
Saw the "Jinjer" t-shirt and knew this was a cool place to hang. Caught them last month myself with Disturbed. Thanks for the vid!
Thanks for watching! I saw them in September with Monuments! Got to meet them as well and get a signed poster. They're such a great band. In my Top 5 for sure!
Hell yeah! Jinjer is the best
Glad they're doing ok.
Jinjer is FOOK'N awesome!! Saw them in Toronto in 2019 🤘😈🤘🇨🇦

Take care.
I love … the cadence … and pauses … in Hugo Weaving’s voice.
And yep. Hugo Weaving IS Agent Smith. It’s how *we* were introduced to him (or many of us). Matrix was before Lord of the Rings & he’s perfection as Smith. “Mr. Anderson” lol
I remember being very skeptical when I heard that Elrond was going to be played by Agent Smith.

Ooh I love Cinema Therapy! I'll have to check out their video, thank you!
@@kaiielle Really? That's so cool. Ya they're awesome! BTW you can thank Popcorn In Bed for leading me to your channel lol
Enjoy the trilogy.

He was reborn inside the matrix. “Another life”
@@N0-1_H3r3 I think if that was true, more people would survive their death in the matrix.
Neo got so much XP from that kiss from Trinity, he received an extra life
1) nice Jinjer shirt
2) the radio in the Oracle’s apartment is playing “I’m beginning to see the light”… old big band standard by Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington .. nice little detail related to their conversation
Way ahead of it´s time. It definitely opened doors for other great movies. Had a lot of fun with your reaction :)
Thank you so much!
Saw it opening night… all those questions were exactly what we were screaming too lol
I just remember people subtly scratching the back of their neck as they left the theatre.
I thought Trinity in the opening scene was a vampire. 😁
My brother saw it on opening day and then came home and dragged me to the theater because I had to see it.
You: "Rob Zombie's 'Dragula is the peak of 'dad rock'."
Me: "But that came out when I was a 19...oh. Well, shit."
About the kiss at the end, it looks just cheesy at the beggining, but do you remember the Oracle's words for Neo? "Sorry, kid. You got the gift, but it looks like you're waiting for something... Your next life, maybe." And then he dies and comes back as The One.
I love the color grading choices. Everything in the Matrix is green tinted.
Neo is an anagram of One.
Fun Fact: Hugo Weaving based his speech patterns and mannerisms as Agent Smith on Carl Sagan and Hal 9000.
Thanks for all the info! I can definitely see the parallels for the sisters, that's really sweet. Excited to check out more!
@@kaiielle My suggestion will be watching The Animatrix before the other movies as well, it is great!
@@vinnycordeiro regarding the trans identity in the movie, Switch was meant to be explicitly trans as a male in the Matrix and a woman in the real world (hence, "Switch") but the 90s were not the time for that. They still tried to do it in a subtle way.
@@canadian__ninja I think you replied to the wrong commentary. Anyway, I didn't knew that and it makes complete sense.

Sounds a bit like Jaime Lannister thinking. lol
As for the sequels, some have issues with them, not me.
Cypher(Judas): "Neo...You scared the be-jesus out of me"...
A movie with similar themes that also came out in 1999 was "The 13th Floor".
@@xenialafleur Indeed. And, conceptually, that movie did it even better...
I also rather liked ExistenZ which was basically the Matrix meets Inception but with weird fleshy biohacking instead of neon green and Jude Law instead of Keanu Reaves.
@@Ylyrra I haven't seen it yet, but I ordered the new 4K UHD.
Just pretend they said "processors" every time they say "batteries".
@@KthulhuXxxlol yee
Its really the only thing that makes sense. If the machines were just using humans as power units, there'd be no need for humans to be conscious...thus negating the need for a simulated digital world
that's such a better reason for it. I think the studio underestimated the audience. If anything I think the whole battery thing confuses people.
Gloria Foster (The Oracle) is such a great actress in this. Really elevated the turning point of the movie.

Watched this twice in cinemas way back during college times. Was such a trend setter with the trenchcoats, glasses, philosophy and kung fu. And it appeals to a young adults feeling that the world isn't quiet real.

Also between 14 and 16 years old.)
An intriguing throwaway line from the Oracle, when she told Neo he wasn't The One, was that he was waiting for something - the next life, maybe. 1-3. :)
On your comment about not liking Trinity's confession of her love for Neo and him coming back from being dead, the mind dying in the Matrix precedes the body, and her kiss (and her adrenaline shot to help keep him alive) was the sensory trigger to stimulate him into reviving in the Matrix - where he always had the ability to defy death in that way, but had not yet put it to the test.
Neo's real name is Thomas (as in doubting Thomas) Anderson (literally "Son of Man").
Idk if they started them, but definitely cemented them, especially what's known now as "bullet time."
Me and my friends all tried to see how far we could bend back like Neo.
I'm new so, I'm sorry to hear about your loss 😢💔❤️ I've been there, there are no words..... virtual hug 🤗
There's over 300 comments so it's possible it's been touched on, but i have to...too lol. Love does play a big role in all movies but it's at a conscious level in decision making not fairytale kisses lol
My apologies for to long comment, hope this helped, and i hope you'll watch the others with an open mind, there can't be another matrix, new levels, new adventures ❤
Thank you so much. ❤️
"Welcome to Rivendell, Mister Anderson. Kill one orc, and two more shall take it's place" - Hugo Weaving in three iconic roles.
36:04 Enter Conkers Bad Fur Day lol.
Thank you so much for this, it means a lot. Thank you for watching too! Glad you enjoyed it.
I read that Switch the blonde woman with short hair originally was supposed to be one gender outside the matrix and then another gender inside the matrix but it was considered too confusing to keep track so they just kept her the same.
Yeah there are a few other trans allegories you can read into the movies like Smith continuing to deadname Neo by calling him Mr Anderson.
i agree that token romances are overused in movies, although i think this romance was carefully considered. i like that Trinity is somewhat in a mentor/protector role early in the movie, and at the end it is Trinity that brings Neo back (not the other way around). i especially like that the movie doesnt have gushing romantic gestures, its more like an underlying layer thats there if you look for it, while simultaneously being a crutial phase of Neo's self actualization.
Great reaction! Thank you for sharing. So sorry about your pup… 🐶 Looking forward to more.
So sorry for your loss….Matrix is mind-blowing every time I rewatch it…..and it was a pleasure watching this reaction….you’re good company…thanks for posting….
Another banger Jinjer shirt 🤘and ofc another banger reaction 😉
Got this one at the end of September when I saw them live and got to meet them! Such a good show. And thank you!
3:30 loving the Liar, Liar clip! 😂😂
What's funny is I haven't even seen the movie. I just know THAT clip only for meme purposes. 😅
@@kaiielle I hope that reaction is in your future! 😎
Thank you for the kind words and I'm sorry for your loss as well, that happened 3 days before mine. 🫂
For the fight scenes, they trained for months with Yuen Woo-ping's team (legendary martial artist behind the best fight scenes from asian movies) and they all suffered injury at one point
Hugo Weaving injured his leg and had to have a surgery
Lawrence Fishburne busted a wrist
Carry Ann Moss broke an ankle (and she hid it to the crew because she feared to be replaced by another actress)
And lastly, Keanu Reeves had vertebrae to be fused to avoid partial paralysis (it's the reason he uses mostly his harms instead of his legs in most of the fight scenes)
Little fun fact, one of Keanu's stunt double was Chad Stalhelsky who later directed the John Wick franchise
(Sorry about your pup btw. Stuff like that is heartbreaking. It sucks.)
Found you from your Memento Collab with Cassie, and thank you so much for encouraging her to check out the Prestige in that video!!
It's one of my top requests for her!
Sorry for your loss as well, I know it was long ago but it is great that he is still with you and in your memories and heart!
all characters where send to a 6month kungfu bootcamp in real life before filming this movie, to make it look like more real and natural.
'The Lake House' could be a good movie to react to, no matter what the poll says. Its rather long, and a lot to react to in a way. 💙
Thanks so much for watching and for your comments! Better late than never indeed. 😊
A classic that still holds up. The sequels definitely have some amazing moments but are a little too self-indulgent and badly paced.
Mass Effect was heavily influenced by the classic science fiction show BABYLON 5. Of Which I would love to watch your reaction to.
3:30 is such an incredible edit. I normally don't care for edits mid reaction but that was hilarious
LOL thank you. I am someone who doesn't care for a *lot* of mid-reaction edits, but I like to throw the odd one in once in a while when it feels worth it. It's usually when Editor Me is making fun of Reaction Me.
My deepest condolences for your loss. It's hard to let go of our fur babies.
6:23 NOKIA Banana. I really wanted to have one back then. Instead, I had a brick called a Motorola D160. I still have it with all its accessories and suitcase-sized packaging. An indestructible machine.
oh yikes. really sorry for your loss. that must have been rough. good on you for taking a break.
Thank you and yes, I really needed that break! Still hurting and miss her lots, but doing better now.
One of the best theater experiences I've ever had.
Yay so happy you're back doing a reaction and now time for the Matrix.. a modern classic!! *grabs popcorn*
Neo comes from rearranging the letters from the word “One”, thus Neo is the One.
Great reaction, thoroughly enjoyed watching with you! 💚❇️🈯️🔋📗🧩🧶🛣✳️💃🏻
Thank you!
dejavu always been trippy for me, also seeing 1111 always been special to me. everytime i dejavu or see 1111 i noticed something is going to happen in my path in life.. but kinda question's my idea of fate and free will.. but i love this movie, it was out of its time when it came out in the 90s.
