Hi George, chiming in as I’m reading and watching a lot about Miles. Three Blue Note sessions make up volume 1 and 2. The fourth session for Blue Note he was a sideman on Cannonball’s Somethin’ Else. Reading fascinating book at the moment about Miles, Coltrane, and Evans. The book sparks thoughts and it makes me dig further into moments and or listen to the music. Very enjoyable.
Halsall music is ideal background for your video ....sounds like a beauty. Thelonious Monk riverside box set looks good. Imagine the vibes in the New York clubs in 1959. I went to a jazz club up near Harlem back in 2003 but knew nothing about the jazz players back then. Hope your golf game is going well G.
Hi Ian I really dig halsall never a bad record. As monk always entertaining. Would love to go to a New York jazz club maybe one day. You were lucky to set foot in one of
Hi George, Matthew Halsall's records are always beautiful music I think. Lovely Getz/Gilberto a quality looking reissue. I hope I don't stumble across a copy as I'd be tempted...cheers Dale
That Getz/Gilberto album looks awesome. It's interesting that they have added "Jobim" to the back cover. And they've added a group photo on the inside, but the group photo doesn't include Astrud Gilberto. Just seems incredible that she sang one of the big hits of the '60s, yet she is hardly acknowledged on the record. At least they've added a couple photos of her in the booklet. I have that Charlie Parker box - you probably remember when I showed it. I'm glad you were able to find one. Thelonious box looks awesome. I wonder how big the Five Spot was? I think it was really small. Thanks for showing the records!
Hi randy I think because astrud was a pro singer and she was pulled in for the vocals wasn’t seen as a main member I think jobim gets the recognition he deserved. Yip was well pleased to finally pick up the Charlie Parker bos real cool item. The thelonious monkis such a fab box. Happy that came round again first issue was 1998.
A friend in Chicago gave me a spare copy of Thelonious in Action in 1975, thus kicking off my continuing passion for modern jazz. Incidentally, that album features Johnny Griffin at his very finest as an improviser.
Hiya George, You tube algorithms didn't feature this on my feed for some reason. Great Halsal track, ill look out for it! The impex looks lush, just out of my price range. I've got the AP 45rpm. Bosa Nova is gorgeous when done right. I need to get some Charlie Parker. Nice box set!
Hi mark Halsall just makes fab music. Impex do fantastic reissues but you have a great copy anyway. Yip the Charlie Parker is a nice box and the quality is very good.
This may sound surprising to you George but I had almost all of these albums. I guess I am a jazz guy after all. You look a little red like you have been on the golf course! Maybe someday I can do that to
You’re a jazz man no problem Steve. Yes getting a bit colour in me again. Off to turkey in eight weeks. I will be burnt for sure. Hope you’re enjoying your new abode. Exciting times.
