After about 4 or 5 hours worth of work, and doing the parts in reverse of the video (i started with the left joycon cus that was the easiest of the 3 parts), my shell swap is now done, and everything is fully functional. Theres absolutely NO WAY i could have done it without this video. Thank you!

I honestly dont see what how you could mess up if youre really careful, just have patience. Dont rush anything not even for the slightest. Take your time. Even just wanting to get it done can cause you to mess up. So just be patient. Lets be honest sometimes you dont touch your switch for a week. So whats the rush anyway.

Went all out and replaced the bottom bracket for the full effect. Wasn't that bad tbh, but pro tip: don't forget to plug the battery back in before you get it all the way back together. I'm not saying I did this, of course. 😅
Despite not having music (which I prefer) this was super entertaining, it didn’t even cross my mind it was a tutorial. I don’t even own a switch nor I’m a gamer, I just love watching people mod their electronics
Everything in this video is very informative and very easy to understand. The issue comes with your switch! Mine had screws that were super tight on the rails. I bought a nice screwdriver because all the reviews said to, and I still managed to strip them because they were in there TIGHT! I had to dremel them out and destroy the integrity of the rail. Now two screws are stuck but it let me get the rails down so I can pop the back plate off. I managed to get the silver part off but when it came to the screw with the sticker on it I STRIPPED IT!!! I was so angry and annoyed because it cannot be unscrewed and it prevented me from putting the plastic piece on the bottom. I did everything by the book and I still had issues. So if you’re thinking about it, just be careful with the screws if they’re hard to get off, they most likely will strip
This is the first video I watched on your channel, and to be honest... I love your videos already! Its so peaceful, to the point, and genuinely good content. Keep it up!
Great tutorial, very thorough. if I ever feel like doing a Switch / Joy con shell swap I'll keep this video in mind. I'm personally not a huge fan of the retro transparent look but it looks pritty sick in black and blue. Great job!
This is definitely a tedious task but can feel rewarding imo. The one thing that stopped me at first was a stripped screw but I managed to get past that with left handed drill bits which worked like a charm and luckily the shell kit comes with replacement screws and were a lot better than the stock screws. I used ExtremeRate and their tutorial which is very thorough and it’s definitely worth appreciating. Now my oled has the clear teal blue shell and I love it and how different it feels. If anyone plans on doing this, all I can say is be careful with ribbons and the paste as well as pay attention to screw placement. I found one on my system where it wasn’t shown at on the tutorial. Those thin nosed tweezers work fine pulling ribbons safely but always be gentle first
I did the joycons on my launch switch because i figured if I'm going into the joycons to replace the drifting sticks, I might as well give it a full referbish. I went with plain clear and I love the look so much I'm gonna take on swapping the back case of the switch to match, and getting a grip case that matches the clear, so you can see all the way from the case through into the internals. love it.
Yeah I’m definitely buying the clear black one, as much as I love blue. It will bug me to no end if I have a blue shell & i use my left blue joycon & right red joycon.😅 Won’t be swapping out the bottom portion, I’ve only disassembled JoyCons & Pro Controllers, not touching the innards of the Switch. Thanks for the video, glad Extremerate finally released shells for the OLED.
I think I would have left the original black metal kickstand to compliment the original black stock buttons, and maintain the solid, high quality feeling of the OLED Switch.
these shell mods always look awesome. I would love to see it with the new shell and og kickstand. Not only would it look badass but also look intentional from Nintendo.
Looks awesome, dude. I modded out my V2 with a red transparent one for the right joycon, blue transparent one for the left joycon, and a black transparent back plate. I don't think I'm ready to mod the front plate yet. It seems way out of my league for now.
it’d be super cool if nintendo released some variations of the switch with these translucent plastics, maybe in tandem with the inevitable gameboy/gba release on virtual console
Fun fact! If you accidentally damaged a copper padding on the display ribbon cable you can either add Flux and solder the pads OR make a jumper cable from exposing some of the copper and solder the wire from point A to B. Was able to save a display this way lol
what i find lovely is i was able to use this as an actual tutorial and i love the way my switch oled looks though i do hope i can one day find another modchip to hack my oled switch as i lost my gen 1 to my doggo lol. but i also love your content and i can't wait to see more i quite enjoyed your ps4/5 controller mods as well and i think you should do more content like this :)
I’ve been waiting for them to release a new kit! Can’t wait to change my backplate once again Definitely not fucking around with that bottom piece though, I know my limits
Great video and great inspiration, thank you! I bought the kit and shell swapped my switch OLED in transparent blue, it looks so so good! I did keep the bottom bar black, it wasn't worth it for me. I also kept all the buttons and triggers stock black, I like the dual color scheme and how the buttons pop. I also didn't have to unplug any ribbon cables on the 2nd joycon, I was able to keep it all connected and just unatttach it from the shell. I only disconnected the battery. It was quick and easy.
Well most likely the Splatoon switch will go out of stock fast like the animal crossing one and someone is just gonna make shell swaps that look like the Splatoon switch anyway so shell swapping is gonna be what most people do

Thank for the Great video! broke the bottom right corner of my stock switch shell, so the right joy con refuses to read connection while mounted, I work on 30-60 year old cars for hobby so this should be a breeze. im ngl the left joycon was wayyyy harder than the right one for me, also i have a bit of bulge on the insides of the joycon near the rail, any tips on how to fix it? i properly assembled everything so im not sure why its doing that but its not completely flush :/
I would've kept the metal kickstand instead of swapping out it for the plastic one that came with the case. It'd probably give you better durability and help prevent flexing of the device. Just my two cents lol
Idk I thought about that too, but when I was fitting mine up to the new shell just to see it looked kinda tacky and out if place with the transparent molded shell
I recommend you use a rubber mat as a work surface and to put anything that you afraid to scratch it safer + help the thing no sliding. Mouse pad is a bad idea since they have fabric surface which can contain dust or sand or anything of sort that can scratch things up easily.
