Cause no one mentioned it, Kai’s theme, it’s so freakin cool. Also I think Kai could’ve still escaped the spirit realm when Po brought him back but Kai took it very personally since he spent 500 years just to escape so the idea of getting brought back even briefly was probably a huge insult to him
I think you are mostly right. But I think Kai just wanted to defeat Po was because for one, Oogway put his faith in Po. So Kai wanted to destroy everything Oogway built up or had connection with. Secondary I would say its because Kai wanted to defeat all the masters and anyone who can challenge him. Po was powerful enough to be a threat, plus Kai was obsessed with taking everyones Chi. So he wouldn't NOT defeat Po
I allways saw it as a ”You have to take the chi from the person sending you to the spirit realm” kinda thing where Kai has to take Po’s chi before he can go back again!
There's a theory that suggests that Oogway was just as ruthless as Kai, with only their brotherly bond as their redeeming quality. But the Pandas healing Oogway and showing him the ways of Chi gave him a new perspective and he had a change of heart. Kai, however, was indifferent and just saw Chi as another means of conquest.
It's also why Oogway knew Tai Lung wasn't the Dragon Warrior: the darkness he sensed reminded him too much of Kai. And since Shen already drove the surviving pandas into hiding, there was no chi to give Tai Lung to heal that darkness. So when Po arrived, it was the circle completing itself from the very moment the pandas first healed him.
I think you should watch Megamind. It's another amazing Dreamworks movie that unfortunately didn't get the credit it deserved because it just so happened to come out shortly after Despicable Me, another animated movie with a similar premise, and was undeservedly deemed as a rip off because of it. I think it's important that people are reminided of how good of a movie it is, so that the upcoming sequel that will most certainly be terrible doesn't end up ruining its legacy.
It's crazy how good Megamind has aged. It was just the wrong time for it to release. It's surprisingly thematic and deep. It's kind of like if Joker was left in Gotham without Batman. He'd go nuts, you know... more than he already is.
Pretty cool, but I wish they didn't do these things. It kind of just makes Tai Lung less cool. What they did in the trailer for Kung Fu Panda 4 was just sad. They had the new villain easily defeat him. They shouldn't have to stand on older villains to make the new ones cool.
@@TableCreedEasily buddy the trailer didn't show the whole fight all it shows is the beginning and end the fight they don't shows what happens in between
Tigress was able to find the panda village because she had the scroll of Oogway's story with Kai and the pandas with the location of the village. Kai also knew where the village was because he had already visited it 500 years ago in order to heal Oogway.
@@Esafc-lb2sgcompletely agree. All 3 films are brilliant, Return of the King hit the hardest on initial viewing, but now that I’ve seen all of them several times Fellowship has easily risen to the top. Absolutely phenomenal film. 👍👍
I'm so glad you've finished the trilogy. Each film represents Body, Mind and Soul via the villains. Through his mastery of Kung Fu, Po defeates each villan. Learning each of these in the process.
I really enjoyed how each villain served as embodiments of Po's struggles. Tai Lung challenged Po on a PHYSICAL level, Shen got to him through EMOTIONAL damage, and Kai tried to get the better of him via SPIRITUAL. I'm curious to see what obstacle awaits Po for number 4.
In the 4th film, Po's challenge will be to change the mind of a group of thieves and criminals, including a fox thief named Zhen, into helping him to defeat the new villain, a sorceress named the Chameleon. We already saw in the third movie that Po could teach a village of pandas by using their natural habilities for Kung Fu, but in the forth film that will not be enough because, besides of the training, he has to deal with people who are on the wrong side of the law and only think about themselves and not helping other people. Like Oogway did with Monkey, Thundering Rhino, Croc and Ox by transforming them from bandits and thieves to respectable Kung Fu masters, Po will have as a Spiritual Leader to guide this army of the thieves and bandits to a more heroic life by helping saving China from the Chameleon.
I think the theme of this one has a lot to do with growing up to be a teacher and father, especially with the two father figures for Po. And since Holden is a dad now, he can really connect with the story. Love your reaction!

Yeh just watched this recently because I wanted to see again before your reactions. Agreed with Holden, this is an awesome awesome movie and I personally equate first one and third one as equal favourites with second movie last (but still a really great movie) They focused on a couple of the Furious Five like Crane and Mantis together, then Tigeress separately. As you said, Villain was awesome and loved that Poe's Panda dad showed up. Absolutely loved seeing Tigeress get more and more concerned as she watched Poe train the rest of the Panda village to be "warriors". 7:12 - I looked him up, yes definitely JK Simmons. 5:25 - When I watched this those three ducks had Aussie accents (I'm from Australia). Looks like they made multiple versions of that scene for different countries? Interesting.... :P Anyway, yeh loved this movie and I give it a big thumbs up too :)
Kung Fu Panda made the perfect Film Trilogy, with each film enriching more of Po's character. A trap other franchises fall into has the protagonist lose the lessons and personal growth achieved in the prior film to just do it all in the second, third, and fourth, on and on, leaving the final character weaker than how they started. Po became the Dragon Warrior in the first film, achieved Inner Peace in the second, and in the third, blended all he was into becoming a Master Teacher. I'm a little nervous about the fourth film in March, but as trailers often misrepresent the story of the film for cheap gags and action shots, hopefully, Po will become even more legendary.
I’m surprised Holden picked 3. I can totally see it though. 3 is incredible and has such great messaging and story around family. The “More for Po” line gets me every time, and it has hilarious moments like “And take Mantis” 😂 but number 2 just emotionally gripped me. I will never forget where I was and how I felt the first time I watched it. I was a full-grown adult. Wrecked 😅
if you guys haven’t seen them or jen hasn’t you should definitely do the Ice Age movies i’m loving the animated movies right now and they’re some of the bes. I think Jen will love Sid the Sloth and see Holden relating to Manny a lot🤣
I think yall should do the How to Train Your Dragon movies. I think that Jen especially will love it with all of the dragons. These movies are also made by DreamWorks who made the Kung Fu Panda movies.
Bringing someone back to life in Star Wars: Was done in Star Wars The Old Republic mmo. There are game movies here on UA-cam. Just warning you, though, there are 8 character types, each with their own storyline. The game movies typically show only one of the storylines, and they tend to run about 17hrs long while only showing the cutscenes and completely skipping the gameplay. Yes, there are over 120 hours of scripted cutscenes in this game. Probably more with all the expansions. The trailers are awesome, btw.
I know people criticise KFP3 for re-hashing the themes of KFP2, but for me the entire trilogy shares the theme of identity... KFP1: Who am I? Who am I NOW. There is no special ingredient that makes po who he is, he just is Who he is. KFP2: who WAS I? Where do I come from? What's my lineage, what's my heritage? Who's my family, my parents? What's my past, my pain, my trauma? KFP3: who am I, who am I GOING TO BE. Who do I want to be, what am I going to be? What will I become? How do i be the best version of myself, achieve my destiny? KFP3 didn't feel like a rehash of the lessons learnt in 2 at all for me, but a natural continuation
Best Third Parts: 1 - Return of the King 2 - Toy Story 3 3 - Guardians of the Galaxy 3 4 - Thor Ragnorok 5 - War of the Planet of the Apes 6 - Revenge of the Sith Probably in that order for me too
If you read the book Darth Plagueis, you’ll see that what you talked about, actually is sort of how Anikan was born via the force, remember Shmee told Qui-Gon there was no father…
This trilogy is more like 3 parts of Po's journey through life. Not every part of a journey will be the same. Some will be more eventful than others. Some will be more traumatic.
My biggest issue with 3 is how much it borrows from the previous movies (Po's arc from 2, tons of references to 1, etc.). Still, KFP3 has a ton of great elements. The animation is gorgeous, the colors are vibrant, and the Spirit World location is visually stunning. James Hong, Po's goose dad, is a gem in this movie; it's criminal that the first two gave him so little screentime. Kai is a fun villain (with a great music theme), it's great to see Oogway back... it's just a solid movie.
Wow, someone else who thought this one is the best of the three. I started out that way because Kai and his theme is really cool, also the fights in the spirit realm were so epic for moments (I wish they had done more with that, the last battle was short), but I am definitely aware of the flaws. Now time to give Kai's theme a listen again.
Watching this with yall, this movie is a lot better than I remember, maybe even better than the first honestly, but in my opinion the second movie is the best of the trilogy. This whole trilogy is just so amazing tho - I'm glad yall got to enjoy it!
The one third movie i can think of that is better than the rest is revenge of the sith, which is technically the third movie of the prequel trilogy even if its the sixth movie overall
Holden and Jen, First of wanted to say so hyped you both get to experience one of the best animated movies ever, My question is with all this kung fu talk and Holden talking about dragon ball, When will we see you guys watch dragon ball or more old school Jackie Chan movies like “who am I” and “police story”.
In my opinion, these three Kung Fu Panda movies make up the best trilogy of all time (so far). Sure, as individual movies I can think of plenty that of other films that are better than each of them separately, but as a whole series trilogy I think this is the best. Even above the likes of Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, the Avengers, most of these movies I would individually rank higher than the Kung Fu Panda films, but as a series Po kicks all of their asses! The best way that I can describe it is down to the core three lessons each of the Kung Fu Panda movies teach: The first's theme is "Body," the second's is "Mind," and the third's is "Spirit" or "Soul." All of these movies teach their audiences how to better themselves in these aspects, or at the very least shows how Po goes through it himself and invites the viewers to discover their own path towards doing the same. Heck, even the ordering of these movies' lessons is perfect. I, and I'm sure plenty of others as well, know first hand how hard it is to try to train/discipline/heal your mind before first doing so with your body, and then the same as well with one's spirit and mind respectfully. It is hard to have a healthy spirit without a healthy mind, and it is hard to have a healthy mind without a healthy body. Or if not "healthy" then at the very least it is hard to "accept" or feel comfortable with your mind and soul before doing so with your body. And of course there's exceptions to this, everyone walks their own path(s) in life, but the overall life advice from these movies, both individually and as a whole set, helps shine a light towards a better version of ourselves that we can strive to be. It's also just great to remember: Body, Mind, and Soul. Or alternatively if you prefer Body, Mind, and Spirit. With all of that being said, it makes me concerned with the fourth movie that was announced. I REALLY HOPE that they don't mess up this theming, and Idk how anyone could expand upon this that would make sense.
grew up watching it and love Kai's them music and also Po x tigress. And i find it a little weird about Po's dad cause in the second one he seemed like a warrior and i like his outfit at the end of the second one but this one he didn't seem like the warrior in the flash back and his outfit was different
A genocidal event that could result in you losing your family can cause you to become that soldier. Or other scenario is he was a soldier and the losses of his wife and son caused him to become a shell of himself
That chinese character is 气 in traditional chinese. It's official translation means Qi (though english speakers pronounce it as Chi instead), and is part of the cultivation genre that the chinese have where they absorb the essence of the atmosphere around the, (Nature, Heaven and Earth) and turn it into something akin to inner spiritual energy which they can use for their martial arts. The Chinese believe that all living beings are connected to nature by Qi. We breathe, we consume Qi in our every movement, manner and speech. This Qi is fundamentally the same as the internal energy that martial artists have--they function in a similar way, but ever since cultivation and martial arts genres were melded and integrated somewhat together, it's become a little iffy LOL
Holden, Jen, have you guys seen the movie The Forbidden Kingdom?? It stars Jackie Chan & Jet Li, actually on screen and interacting with each other. I felt like I needed to explain that because of the dirty tactics Disney/Marvel has been using by showing characters in promos for movies just to get people into theater seats. lol. It's a very dirty tactic and is becoming common use now-a-days. To put a big name star in the main credits or title or in a promo and they aren't even IN the movie or show in question. BUT, The forbidden Kingdom has them actually interacting.
I think Kai actually could go back, but he was willing to get Po's chi first as he was the strongest one + it'd be more convenient to take his chi right there, and then return to the world.
Every movie, no matter how bad, is someone’s favorite, just by the law of numbers, you just don’t know if you’ll like it until you try it. Evil Dead trilogy, the 3rd Army of Darkness is my favorite. What I think is more unique is when the 4th movie in a series is the best / even any good.
When Kai said that Oogway betrayed him, he was correct. In the flashback, you'll remember that both Oogway and Kai were warmongers and only cared about each other. That obviously changed for Oogway after being healed by the pandas and their Chi but still... Pretty dark origin story for the wise tortoise. 😂 😂
“All movies are cash grabs” I loved that🤣

if you guys haven’t seen them or jen hasn’t you should definitely do the Ice Age movies i’m loving the animated movies right now and they’re some of the bes.
Spider-Man no way home, Thor ragnarock, and revenge of the sith are the top “third movies that were the best of their trilogy “ that spring to mind.
Bringing someone back to life in Star Wars:
Was done in Star Wars The Old Republic mmo.
Fun little Easter egg Tai lung was in Kung fu panda 3 if you pause on kais jades you can see he was defeated by Kai off screen
So Tai Lung does actually have a "cameo" in the movie where he is one of the warriors Kai absorbed in the Spirit Realm
This might be a hot take, but in my opinion, the third Indiana Jones movie, The Last Crusade, is the best of the original trilogy.
Best Third Parts:
1 - Return of the King
2 - Toy Story 3
3 - Guardians of the Galaxy 3
4 - Thor Ragnorok
5 - War of the Planet of the Apes
6 - Revenge of the Sith
Probably in that order for me too
If you read the book Darth Plagueis, you’ll see that what you talked about, actually is sort of how Anikan was born via the force, remember Shmee told Qui-Gon there was no father…
In the cases of the 3rd movie being the best in the trilogy there’s spider-man no way home, avengers infinity war and Thor ragnarok
Okay but can we PLEASE get Jen’s skincare routine
Holden: "He's done a lot for those people, you think they'd cut him some slack"
I guess you forgot what Green Goblin said on the rooftop huh 😂
This trilogy is more like 3 parts of Po's journey through life. Not every part of a journey will be the same. Some will be more eventful than others. Some will be more traumatic.
If you look on his belt one of the jade charms was Tai Lung so he definitely beat him in the spirit relm as well
3 phenomenal villains, really hope Kung Fu Panda 4 delivers on the villain because the first 3 nailed the antagonist of the film.
The amount of By Gone Jim moments in these movies have been insane.
9:52 omg the timing 😂
My biggest issue with 3 is how much it borrows from the previous movies (Po's arc from 2, tons of references to 1, etc.). Still, KFP3 has a ton of great elements. The animation is gorgeous, the colors are vibrant, and the Spirit World location is visually stunning. James Hong, Po's goose dad, is a gem in this movie; it's criminal that the first two gave him so little screentime. Kai is a fun villain (with a great music theme), it's great to see Oogway back... it's just a solid movie.
I haven't seen the movie in years but even then I hadn't realized that Kai's weapon is basically Kratos' blades from God of War
Tai long (sorry if i spelled it wrong) was on the villain's hip at the beginning. Look again. He just didn't use him.
How to train your dragon let’s gooooooo!!!!
KUNG FU PANDA 3 was my favourite too
In my opinion, these three Kung Fu Panda movies make up the best trilogy of all time (so far).
Love how they used the Po photo from kung fu panda legend of awesomeness show cool thing to see
grew up watching it and love Kai's them music and also Po x tigress.
The Return of the King is clearly the best movie in that trilogy.
How To Train Your Dragon is a rare case of the finale being the best IMO
The last fight in the spirit realm is so damn epic🤩
🐍❤🐼 viper was the only one who didnt say anything about po being a bad teacher owwww!!!! so cute!!!
I feel like this channel has different eras. Now we're in the animation era
I had completely forgotten that J.K. Simmons did the voice for Kai.
Get yourselves ready for Kung Fu Panda 4 on March 8th!
I think you both would love Brother Bear. Soundtrack’s amazing too
