The hole in the end is for another banana plug Randy, it is not intended to take the cable. As Nicopeet alluded with this design the wires are inserted from the side and then the large screw tightened to hold the cables in place. I don't like these types because over time the cable strands relax under compression and you soon get a less than optimum connection.
The twin screw (Nakamichi) types are my personal fav's, 2 screw security and lightweight, give them a try my friend, I think you may prefer them.
Great video. Just bought some of those and could not figure out how to attach them to the wire. Thanks!
The stripped wire goes into the large hole in the side and the screw secures it to the body. It's sort of a sideways type affair.
You are the man. And you've done your good deed for life! Thank you.
Year 2021 and is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you!
that was genius. saved me so much time. thank you.
Thanks very much, your video was very helpful.
I just bought these today and I was going to try and solder into the cup part.
So glad to see someone else doing what you did. I had some "Sewell" banana plugs that have the "Teeth" to hold the wires that I love, they go through and then you spread out the "Wire Overage" down the sides then screw it on so as the wire cable comes out the bottom hole as you would expect. These Goofy Side Mount/Holes or whatever are confusing. I needed 4 more banana plugs to finish my 7.2 surround system, but I also needed more wire and a company on Amazon threw these in for "Free" with the wire purchase. But like many of us, you look at these and you wonder How In The Hell Do These "Poorly" designed things work? Great Minds!!.....hehe..
Strip off about 1" wire, no less; unscrew tip almost all of the way out insert/smash wire into the assembly. Hold both the wire and the plug and screw the tip on tight, this smashes stripped part of the wire into a ball.
Thanks...! You saved me a hassle...!😊
you saved my life
Thanks for this! Bad design but this helped.
I was wondering how they worked! Thanks
This was ultimatively helpful!! Thanks man ;)
Great video! Thanks for the instructions.
Thanks for explaining.
My first thought was you had to put the bare end of the wire through the hole on the side and then screw in the back to tighten it down. I actually thought the hole at the back was so you could stack another plug onto it :)
However, now I'm still wondering what the holes on the side of the plug are meant for. They seem to have no purpose at all.
Thanks for the vid. I knew it had to be something easy.
You're a hero
GREAT Idea I needed this advise THANKS
You saved my bucks.🙏
From Home Depot support, basically exactly as described in this video:
"For this type of banana plug as others similar to it, you will first strip your speaker cables back to about 3/4" to no more than 1" in length.
Push the stripped wire through the bottom piece (the one with the hole in it), and then bundle or compress the wire at the end, so that the banana port portion will compress into it once it screws down into the bottom piece. Twist firmly and test it to ensure the connections are successful."
I just straight wire mines still hits nice
Thank you so much!
The side hole approach and the way it was demonstrated in this video are both effective. I think it's just cosmetics and preference. I'm OCD and didn't know this so I'll redo all 10. 😠 😭 🤣
awesome!!!man!!!
Thank you
Good!
What sorcery is this!!!!
Thanks, just bought a set and couldn't install them.
in my mind it's a goog idea...
it's pretty obvious we should use the hole for wiring XD
or use them like deadbolt banana plugs (Amazonbasics or Sewell type)

Wrong! You are suppose to distribute the treads over the treads before put it in. Got the best connection then...
Knowledge
Just spent a fruitless hour mucking with these. Ended up with wee bits of wire all over the table and a crummy connection. Google is your friend. Should of come here first .
I hate this type. The Nakamishi or equivalent type with 2 screws are the best. No bending of the wiring needed.

I don't understand the female bannana sockets. The terminals the bannana plugs plug into.
I'll try and draw a mental picture of them.
The fronts of the screw forward to reveal a hole in the side of the terminal.....and the pics on eBay show the bannana plug connected from the side. It appears then the front tightens down onto it.
I've never seen them connect from the side.....only straight forward from the front.
I've seen bannana plugs with the side hole but not the female terminals.
So I don't know if they plug into the front and the side or only the side.
I just want them to plug in normal straight forward.
I'd have to see a picture but you may have to remove little plastic end caps from your speakers first. I did on mine.

I'm using this kind of bannana plug.

It's the speaker that I'm talking about.
phototristan
Oh ok. I was confused about the female terminals.
I'm using these for a variable power supply. So they won't be connected to a speaker. They will be connected to aligator clips to supply DC current.
I'm working with salvaged electronics and Arduino.
Thanks. I bought these stupid plugs, and they made no sense. This is still not satisfactory, but it works. The specific plug is stupid.
