A week after my husband and I got married he took me home to Pennsylvania which I've never been to and so would you like to try a red beet egg I was like oh my goodness no. Finally tried one love them and now I make them for him
Thanks so much!! I enjoyed watching your video! This os one of my childhood memories! My Mom made this a lot. She'd just make them..let them marinate and sit them on the counter for us to snack on! I loved playing outside then coming in the house..wash my hands and my siblings and I would smash! 🎉
Thank you. Delicious. I grew up in York PA and my grandma used to make these all the time. Broke my heart when I moved out to California and they didn't have these.
Yep...…...even in Akron, Ohio we called this recipe "Pennsylvania Dutch pickled beets & eggs". Mom made it every Easter and maybe around Thanksgiving if we were good. Moms older now and so this time honored treat falls on me to continue the tradition and cultural enjoyment. Just stopped in to see if I remembered the simplicity of this wonderful recipe and yep I retained it.
Hello I grew up Pennsylvania Dutch a grandma made all sorts of amazing dishes a lot of which are on your Channel I am definitely going to take your recipes and start making them again I do miss my grandma's cooking
Hands down the simplest and best pickled eggs. These don't last very long in my house lol Thanks for sharing and bringing my hubby back to his roots. His mom and dad owned a bar in Pennsylvania years ago and they used to make these all the time. Huge hit!
moblackbird Thanks for watching. Pickled eggs are very easy and delicious. Yes, give them a try. Let me know how you like them. Adjust and add ingredients and spices to your taste. Have fun! :)
My German Grandmother ((and my mother later) made these 85 yrs ago when I was a young 5 yr old in N.E. Ohio. They were an absolutely mandatory item at amy time but especially for our annual family reunions... (or when I begged! :-). I have been a sucker for these and continue to make them when nostalgia calls...NOTHING BETTER!!!!
Having grown up in Central PA, I love them. This is the best recipe on here. There is no need for pickling spices, as they are hard to find and unnecessary. Thanks for posting, Tess, I'm going out for some eggs now!
I love this recipe, and as Tess said, it can be modified to individual tastes very easily. I leave mine set for 10 days before I start eating them. I start a new batch when I get down to my last couple of eggs. This recipe is so easy. Thanks for sharing. Here in Iowa we have plenty of eggs and beets from our acreages. Wonderful snack.
I’d like to see the mustard pickled eggs. That orange color is beautiful. I have always loved the beets recipe from my grandmother. Wry similar to yours
Tess, we love pickled eggs here in South Texas. I had some of these type of pickled eggs years ago in East Texas. Did not know for sure a good recipe. Your's is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks
I moved to the Pittsburgh area from the Seattle area. These are one of my favorite PA snacks! A couple of these and a bottle of birch beer and I'm a happy girl!💜
No Hippie BBQ & Cooking Hey Lyle, Glad you stopped by. Pickled eggs are very easy.....just not quick. :) Give them a try and adjust to the way you like them :)
I've made pickled eggs many times, but they have never had that wonderful color of yours (I only have used the beet juice). Will definitely try your approach of adding the beets!
Growing up, my grandmother would make these for us (Greensburg, PA) . Haven't had them in years. Thanks for making the video;now my children can try these.
I reverse my water and vinegar and store my pickled eggs in beet juice in the fridge and I just ate an egg that’s eight months old and the flavor was way better than in the first two weeks it was amazing how the flavors were just so much better
Oh wow, grew up with pickled eggs but haven't had any in far too long...thanks for such a nice reminder! Here in the Midwest they don't eat these, but I got to make them! Oh yes, I got to make them this weekend. Yep, the color and flavor so pretty and tasty. Never seen a mustard pickled egg, but sounds perfect since I love mustard. Oh heck yeah Tess, I love these babies. Appreciate the reminder~ bar snacks for sure!
Rivet Gardener Thanks so much for watching and commenting. They are easy and yummy. Let me know how you like them. Will do a video on the mustard eggs in the near future.. Take care. :)
Easter has always been pickled egg season at our house. We did not use sugar though. We boil 2 cups white vinegar and 2 cups of cider vinegar with the juice of 2 cans of beets for 5 minutes. Everything else is the same.
Very creative Tess. Very creative. My mom would finish the pickles (sweet ones) in the pickle jar and save all the juice. She would then put as many canned beats (without the juice) I'm the pickle juice jar and refrigerate for 2 days. After that they can be eaten at your leisure. They are delicious😋
Thank you so much for this simple PA Dutch recipe! I understand that not everyone agrees that simple is better, but this is what we grew up on in PA Dutch country! So many recipes have other spices in it and they just don't taste like home :-).
Thank you! My family loves these! Question though: they eat the eggs so quickly! Less than 2 weeks…can I reuse the brine? I have been told the eggs are good for 3 months, but ours have never lasted that long! Thank you for your help. It is appreciated.
YESS YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES. God I miss these eggs.... thecwest coast sucks, cant wait to grab a birch beer, a jar of eggs, and just chill on it. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm
