After all that's happened, Wilfred is the one who both killed and redeemed the Doctor at the very same moment. That's one hell of a catalyst character right there. That brings me to one request from the show. If the actor who plays Wilfred is still alive (I am unaware at the moment), I want him and Capaldi's doctor to converse one last time. Just imagine, the both of them reflecting upon their mistakes and their lives before they die, where the Doctor can comfort Wilfred and tell him that even after all of the pain, he has no reason to feel responsible and that everything is alright. ‘Still that’s fine….I’m fine.’ My favourite line. Symbolising how he’s impacted so many peoples lives, and how those people have their loved ones. But him living for 900 years, he’s come across human nature so often, and having companions from previous generations and regenerations, he eventually knows their journey comes to an end.
@@uscman He didn't, though. The Doctor made the choice to save Wilfred at the expense of his own life. You are responsible for your own actions, and only yours. To say otherwise is to deny agency.
What makes this episode even more tragic is the story beautiful chaos... told from wilfs pov and Donna before she forgets ... the final end of the book is a letter she wrote saying bye to her family and excited to travel with the Doctor. I totally ugly cried reading that letter 😢
You gotta love how Wilfred (even before explaining the Time War to him) salutes The Doctor as if he already know just by talking with The Doctor, he was a veteran. Plus The Tardis *THUD* before taking off is like a drum beat to attention like in WW2. Even after this Wilfred stands to attention towards one soldier after The Doctor won the battle between The Daleks in this 2 parter
Donna Noble. A woman that just wanted to feel special one time. But instead she became the most important woman in the whole galaxy and she will never be able to remember it. Its really sad to lose her. I also love Clara and Amy but Donna was better because she doesnt give me that "Gonna travel with my Timeboy" feeling. She just wanted to make her life special and have a adventure. She always will be the best and maybe we may gonna see her again.
1:20 - 1:37 it’s hardly novel to say how phenomenal of an actor David Tennant is but holy fucking shit his acting is phenomenal. His delivery of the end of his speech especially, just bristling with admiration and pride for what Donna did but he’s trying so hard to contain his emotions or else he’ll give away how much this has broken him
I've been a Who fan all my life, my first doctor was Davidson but I've watched all of them. I can honestly say the Doctor and Donna are/were the best pairing. It's funny how the doctor has always had assistants/friends/lovers... but Donna was like something he'd never had before... Donna was like a big sister. She looked after him, she cared for him, she protected him. I genuinely think this hurt The Doctor more than any other assistant
I see that scene on the rain as a metaphore, a brilliant metaphore in fact. The shot after the Doctor saying goodbye to Donna is in the rain (crynig because he won't ever see his friend again), the doctor talks about his past friends (crying because all his friends either wanted or had to leave him), the Doctor thanks wilfred for the words (knowing that he's got a new friend and admirer, not a companion though). 2:45 the Doctor states the "atmosphere" disturbance will pass, as it always does (subtly talking about his emotional disturbance, while Wilfred fully compreends it). I have watched up to the beginning of the 8th series so far and I say this, no other tv show has made me cry so many times!!
Part of me likes to imagine that maybe I was like Donna once, that maybe once I was a savior to so many, and for once I was important, and I just can't remember. And if I were to remember, I just might die.
That’s a wonderful thing for people to imagine. It’s like “well, I could be right and my memory is just erased” kids have hope that there’s a time travelling alien out there, with a box, and a screwdriver. Adults can always imagine a “what if” scenario in their life, “what if my life was full of time travel and adventures” it’s a very sweet thing to imagine (sorry for how long that read was)
"If she remembers she'll burn" and "You can never tell her, you can't mention me or any of it"...but her looking at him and shaking hands doesn't bring back anything to her? I'm not digging at this at all, as I loved this episode...just something that came to mind when he said that aha
She only glanced at him, and then barely addressed him for more than a few seconds. If she were to actually take a proper look at him, it’d probably start coming back to her
That thank you from Tennant is perfectly delivered. Not wanting to cry or show that he was effected too much by it, but us as an audience, know how much that affected The Doctor and how much he really needed to hear that from Wilf.
I love the true endings with rose, dona, and rory/amy because it was at costs; it didnt end up in this pretty bow or seem like fan service. It hurts so bad, but then you remember it. Its beautiful. All of David Tennant is beautiful
Henry Peters Russell T Davis wrote this episode, not moffat. Moffat started writing at around the beginning of Matt Smiths era, however I believe moffat wrote the Blink episode as well.
Online Gamer Reread my comment. I was saying this scene was good and that Moffat didn't have to make the story this quality but instead he fucked it up when he got the reigns
Actually he wrote 6 episodes in the RTD era: "The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances" (Series 1); "The Girl in the Fireplace" (Series 2), "Blink" (Series 3), "Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead" (Series 4). All of them are regarded as very strong episodes - "Blink" arguably the greatest story of the new era.
Moff was great during RTD Era. He is just not as great of a showrunner. He needs to be put in check. Hopefully the new showrunner could turn Dr Who into what it was during RTD Era.
I think the thing that makes this hurt so much with Donna is... and I think I speak for all of us when I say this but we all HATED her in her first episode... we were all getting over Rose and hated how full of herself she was, but by the time she came back she was Welcome and we grew to love her but then to see her go back to her selfish uncaring self was the most saddest thing I have seen on Doctor who... Rory and Amy have each other, Rose gets her Doctor boy toy, Clara gets a flying cafe, and Bill gets a lesbian liquid companion... Donna is literally left with nothing... not even her memories
I think what killed me the most was that I related to Donna on a very deep existential level. Watching dr who is such a great escape for an hour. Donna hated her life, she dreaded her existence. The Dr gave her purpose, he gave her life meaning and let her have the adventures she always wanted to go on. She was us, she was the audience. She got to have the escape we all crave when we watch dr who. And to have that destroyed, to just have it deleted. It's so personal, it's so heart breaking. It's such a great metaphor who dr who as a whole, every journey ends. And when it does it just ends. We can go back and rewatch these episodes but donna won't even get that. She has to go back to being unhappy again. It's just so fucked, and again the Dr ends up alone. He's lost us the viewers as the episode ends. We go back to our lives. To just have your happiness erased is so overtly harsh.
That bit towards the end where the doctor sats he leaving and she just look right through him is so flipping heartbreaking. You can see in the doctors face that he would love for her to turn round and say “oi, you ain’t leaving without me spaceman!”. Seriously Can’t wait for the 60th anniversary
God I haven’t even watched Doctor Who, but I’ve been watching clips of The Tenth Doctor and Donna and I’m over here crying like a baby, weeping, sobbing.
DOCTOR: That version of Donna is dead. Cuz if she remembers, just for a second, she'll burn up. You can NEVER tell her. **Donna comes in** DONNA: Don't mind me. Donna. DOCTOR: I'm the Doctor. DONNA: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I'm one of the rare people who liked Jodies time on doctor who, and I like Ncuti so far, but I do miss David, Matt, and Peters series as the doctor, they had that something I enjoyed about doctor who that the latest ones are missing.
They've all got someone else
Still, I'm fine
You can't ever tell her
His Scottish slipped in so hard in these lines.
How can you not love Wilfred?
Cause he killed The Doctor
@@uscman He didn't, though. The Doctor made the choice to save Wilfred at the expense of his own life.
You are responsible for your own actions, and only yours. To say otherwise is to deny agency.
What makes this episode even more tragic is the story beautiful chaos... told from wilfs pov and Donna before she forgets ... the final end of the book is a letter she wrote saying bye to her family and excited to travel with the Doctor. I totally ugly cried reading that letter 😢
What a scene. "All those friends of yours." "They've all got someone else" :(
Coming back to this after the Star Beast, you can see just how much Sylvia took what Ten said to heart.
YESSS !!😀
💔
Yeah wilf if you could hurry this up it is actually pissing down
🤣
Donna's grandfather: a wonderful alusion of the Aviator of The Little Prince.
Still better than the doctor forgetting his companion
it still hurts me
i love you
The Doctor omg its the.....oh your capable now
Awww bless! We love you.
Now 15 years later a happy ending😊
Bernard Cribbins.
An absolutely incredible part in doctor who. Plays Wilf so well
I see that scene on the rain as a metaphore, a brilliant metaphore in fact.
RIP Sir Bernard. Every night when it goes dark and the stars come out, I'll think of you.
Adults can always imagine a “what if” scenario in their life, “what if my life was full of time travel and adventures” it’s a very sweet thing to imagine (sorry for how long that read was)
Maybe stop dreaming and make it come true.
"If she remembers she'll burn" and "You can never tell her, you can't mention me or any of it"...but her looking at him and shaking hands doesn't bring back anything to her? I'm not digging at this at all, as I loved this episode...just something that came to mind when he said that aha
Joe Scott - Plot hole. Maybe, he was exaggerating because he doesn't want to take any chances. There are triggers. Who knows? Good thought.
She thought the man she saw was John Smith, not relating to anyone or anything. Idk if it’s the writing or if it’s the lore,
She only glanced at him, and then barely addressed him for more than a few seconds. If she were to actually take a proper look at him, it’d probably start coming back to her
Probably because everything was normal to Donna and she didn’t think anything was wrong.
That thank you from Tennant is perfectly delivered. Not wanting to cry or show that he was effected too much by it, but us as an audience, know how much that affected The Doctor and how much he really needed to hear that from Wilf.
Donna's mother still is so possessive... doesn't know the meaning of love and encouragement..
I love the true endings with rose, dona, and rory/amy because it was at costs; it didnt end up in this pretty bow or seem like fan service. It hurts so bad, but then you remember it. Its beautiful. All of David Tennant is beautiful
I look at this and think, "God damn it Moffat, you didn't have to do as good as this but you also didn't have to fuck the whole shit up."
Henry Peters
Russell T Davis wrote this episode, not moffat.
Haziqisagoodname agree completely, Mofatt's a fine writer so long as it's for an episode and not as showrunner. Have high hopes for Chinball
This is hands down one of the most heartbreaking scenes in doctor who.
Rip Bernard Cribbins, a true legend.
Catherine Tate couldn't have said it better herself...
"There's a Bernard Cribbins-sized hole in the universe now..."
I never hated Donna. I couldn't stand Rose for numerous reasons, and I found Donna a breath of fresh air in "Runaway Bride".
I love tennant he was a great doctor to have in my childhood. It's just a shame we won't get episodes like this anymore.
You don't get episodes like this anymore....
Brian Borkowski nope a shame really
Brian Borkowski
Yeah, thank God, this episode was shit.
Doctor Malcolm Tucker then why are you watching a scene from it?
Doctor Malcolm Tucker shit? Sorry but I do not respect your opinion.
I know
She will be remembered, but she will not remember. Ironic
see the thing is this was the best era, just the right amount of every emotion
"She was better with you.."
"No SHE WAS!"
That bit towards the end where the doctor sats he leaving and she just look right through him is so flipping heartbreaking. You can see in the doctors face that he would love for her to turn round and say “oi, you ain’t leaving without me spaceman!”. Seriously Can’t wait for the 60th anniversary
The most beautiful and poignant ending for a companion. My heart broke when I watched this.
"Still, it'll pass...everything does"
Ooof...
"Yeah see ya" hits hard every time 😢😢
"Atmospheric disturbance. Still it will pass, everything does."
I think that's the saddest sentence here. The same as everything has its time.
cutest thing in all that wilfred still salutes to the doctor🥺
'No, listen-- listen this important: Susie Mare wouldn't lie!... not unless it was about calories!'
Cracks me up.
I remember first watching this years ago,I'm not ashamed to say I cried...a bit
That’s ok she can just “let it go”!
God I haven’t even watched Doctor Who, but I’ve been watching clips of The Tenth Doctor and Donna and I’m over here crying like a baby, weeping, sobbing.
The part that really gets me is when the Doctor says “they will never forget her, while she can never remember.”
DOCTOR: That version of Donna is dead. Cuz if she remembers, just for a second, she'll burn up. You can NEVER tell her.
**Donna comes in**
DONNA: Don't mind me. Donna.
DOCTOR: I'm the Doctor.
DONNA: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
This scene broke my heart.
I'm one of the rare people who liked Jodies time on doctor who, and I like Ncuti so far, but I do miss David, Matt, and Peters series as the doctor, they had that something I enjoyed about doctor who that the latest ones are missing.
R.I.P Bernard, I know it's been over 2 years now since he passed, but he was one of our greatest actors ever.
Rest easy Bernard, it wouldn’t have been the same without you. I'll look up at the sky... and think of you.
"I'm fine" the pain and sadness in his voice and face says otherwise.
The man in rain meme was so iconic, I had to know how it actually went...
I got a very interesting result, one which I had not expected at all.
It was actually sad, and also incredibly wholesome in itself.
With the recent news, I feel nothing but emptiness. Wilf proved to me that there's so much more to life than meets the eye
RIP Bernard Cribbins :(
RIP Bernard Cribbins
Really hopeful 14 can fix Donna in the 60th as part of the plot, maybe as the way to stop the Antagonist and find the truth as to why he (14) exists as an incarnation.
He is so good at conveying true pain in his eyes 💔 "there are worlds out there safe in the sky because of her..." 😭😢😩 then that last look as he leaves the kitchen 😢💔
another of a number of scenes with Bernard Cribbins where you really feel emotion. Bernard Cribbins is a fine actor and really brought Wilfred to life.
“But every night, Doctor, when it gets dark, and the stars come out-“
“Yeah, can you hurry this up? I’m getting soaked.”
Right well- my heart has been crushed now, thanks.
You can see how Wilfred is hurt by the fact the Doctor is hurt that Donna is gone
Rip the Goat The Bernard Cribbings❤️❤️💯💯 you will be missed deeply
He's in the next episode.
2020 and still watching this :(.. the good old times.
rest in peace wilfred, now we'll look up the sky for you ❤️
Who else is here after 15 Years? 🥲
