I would like to see some ideas/hear thoughts on distributing colors in the aquarium.

Btw what is the name of that red fish at 3:40? :D

Thank you so much for this. So many fish hobbyist act like it's a crime if you don't have a thousand gallon tank in every corner of your house. So thank you for giving us normal people cool and achievable goals for our humble little aquatic homes. I currently have a 15 gallon, a 29 gallon used as a terrarium and I am seeking to build a 10 gallon centerpiece tank. The simple fact that you mentioned it showed me my intentions are pure.

My 10 gal started out with some white cloud mountain minnows, panda corys, and the star was the betta fish. I added the betta last. It's a live-planted tank so I made sure it was well and stable with healthy plants. Then I added the betta, I floated him in his cup with low light for a while. Not just to get the temps the same but I wanted him to get a look/see/feel for his neighbors. He was a young betta. I added him in and at first, he was very curious and checked everyone out, but before the end of the day, he just explores the tank now. It's been about 2 years and he's fine and everyone coexists fine. Its been updated to a 20 gal tall now, he's still been moved over, now shares it with a bristle nose pleco, and a 3 Endler guppies with those mountain minnows and panda corys.

one thing i absolutely love for small tanks, especially for a darker jungle-look, with knurly woods, ferns, and anubias, is a java moss back wall.
it's a slow burn. but once it has grown into a dense mat, it looks wonderfully lush and dark, and soaks up nitrates.
if you do HMFs: yes, perfect combo!

Depends on how religious you are about 1" of fish per gallon of water. If all the fishes were adult sized, you would have 20 inches of fishes in 10 gallons. Schooling fish take up less space since they stick together as a group. If we assigned an inch of schooling fish per 1/2 gallon, the number changes to seven inches of fishes in 10 gallon.

I’ve got 4 endlers, a bristlenose, a male/female pair of threadfin rainsbows, a green Cory, a kuhli and 2 horned nerites. They condemn me for it, but it’s heavily planted and I do 50% water changes every week. Never had any problem, and it’s just odds and ends fish I’ve ended up with. 6:42 Good point.I always wanted to try those planted tank stuff after seeing sooooo many nano tank vids on UA-cam.And I did...with 10 neon tetras and Corys. But I wasn't happy. The fishes are too small and insignificant(that's just how I feel.)I do not get attached to them.I rarely do maintainance the tank as I lose interest in it.
Then one day I decided sold the tank and now I'm starting again with a 20 gallon tank and two cute ranchu goldfish. And I absolutely love them.I really love maintaining their tank.I love watching them swim all day.All I'm saying is that planted tanks looks cool and its only natural that you want to try it.But they are not suitable for those who only loves keeping fish.Just keep the fish you want and love.Don't do Nano tank just because other people are doing it.

I tried a bowfront 5 gallon at first, but he still seemed a bit anxious. I ended up moving him to a 2.5 gallon sitting on a bookshelf so that his field of view was limited and he seemed to calm down quite a lot. I have a 30 Liter Cube (about 7-8 Gal) and I have it stocked with a betta, 11 rasboras and three kuhli-loaches.
Also three Neocaridinia shrimp („normal“ colour, so that they don’t really act as a eye-catcher, but solely as cleanup-crew)
Scaped with Black soil, and only one corner planted (but that makes up about 1/3 of the tank) with different types of anubias and other plants consisting of big leaves. This green corner is surrounded by a few „big“ black rocks, under which the kuhlis hide during the day.
Using a simple electric sponge-filter for filtration and a cheap 25W heater in winter. The heater is on the same timer as my light which leads to the fish having a natural cooldown during nighttime.
The tank is running like this for about a year and no problems whatsoever.

Great channel and videos! My 29 gallon is similar to the setup you mentioned with Corys I have
    1 moonlight gourami
    9 White Cloud Mountain minnows
    6 albino Cory’s
    1 dwarf Lilly
    And a albino Bristlenose pleco.
According to my research I am slightly overstocked but all the fish seem to be fine. I had tanks a lot when I was younger so I’m not totally new do you think since all the fish swim in different areas and are peaceful (the gourami is even pretty timid) that It will be ok? How much should I worry about inches to gallons and the gourami is my main question but any other tips you can think of would be great as it has been awhile since I had a tank and I am totally new to live plants.
I have a few other questions I’m gonna list but I may actually private message you and others with this so feel free to ignore this if you don’t have the time
Any thinks like water jets for current that the fish may prefer?
Also my filter sits fully in the tank I bought it at Wally World and it is brand new but also usable for reptiles so it doesn’t have the straw like others I’ve seen. Should I switch?
I have my gourami hiding places and he just swims to and from them it’s been about two weeks is it normal for him to be so timid? I was thinking maybe the school of white clouds congregating in the top middle of the tank might be disturbing him
But I have never have a moonlight gourami so maybe this is normal, he doesn’t attack any other fish and is very non aggressive
That’s all I can think of now your channel is fantastic and if you (or anyone in this comment stream) can answer or help with even one of these questions it would help put my worrisome fish owner mind at ease lol have a good one and keep up the great vids!

Well I’ve seen a few sources that inches to gallons is not valid to measure how much is too much, because bottom dwellers, mid dwellers, etc... but if your responsible and have a keen eye I really don’t see why overstocking is really that bad

Thank you! I enjoy watching your videos, very informative! Im learning so much. I’m a beginner with planted aquariums and having fun with it. I have my first successful planted 5 gallon Betta tank and now moving up to a 10. I eventually want much bigger a step at a time (maybe Angels). I have a question...do you see a problem with mixing cardinal with neon tetras for a school? I don’t want to overstock my tank, at least not until it’s full of plants (with open swimming available of course). I have a fair amount of plants at the moment. It’s cycled of course and I have 3 cardinals in there right now. I thought if I went with neons to complete the school since they are smaller, I can have more life total. I’m very open to more fish, shrimp, snails, etc besides a school. I have eco complete as a substrate, so I think that rules out Cory’s. Thanks much for any help :)

I would say Betta is a bit aggressive when put in a community tank, you can change Betta to Dwarf Gourami instead, but do not get a pair of 2, because gourami types don't like their own kind, often times they would fight and one become alpha and the other one got bullied, I suggest only buy one or more than 4 to break their aggressions. If you want to overstock your 10 gallon, it's fine as long as you have a decent filter that can pump your 10 gallon water / hour, also you can put an easy live plants that you can find in most fish store like amazon swords and other vertical-growing plants to provide their oxygen, cleaning your fish wastes and giving them hiding spots. Sorry for long reply, I speak of this as of my experience for my 10 Gallon community tank too, today they still healthy and looks great

I was also keeping a school of neon tetras with him, but was having trouble keeping the ammonia in control, so he is in there alone now. It's a pretty tank: black sand, and green and purple plastic plants of varying sizes, and a cute little yellow and purple mushroom cottage that he loves to hang out in. I'm using Fluval 30 gal HOB filter. I thought that would be enough to keep the ammonia down with regular water changes.

Recently only a few viddos back you did another 10 gallon tank idea video also. And I just can't relate. Lots of tank idea videos being put on the channel. I know its easy content but after a video or two it becomes monotonous and stale. No disrespect, just using the comment section for some constructive criticism. I hope you can find your path back to the innovative and creative content so I can continue to enjoy the channel because I know you can be much greater Cory. Again no disrespect, only commenting as if I was a friend giving constructive criticism.
