I had a colony of pea puffer in my first 10 gallon, and those little boogers were hilarious to watch dart in and out of the micro sword clump in the tank center. They'd pop out and chase eachother around the tank before darting back inside their leafy green house. Definitely a good species full of character, and they definitely can recognize you when you come over to watch them for a bit; mine would swim to the front of the tank for me, but hid from my brother.
Mine ate everything else in a couple of days 😞
But they have a lot of personality .👍
Will Winn he had a video saying you can’t keep the pea puffers with anything else, as they are aggressive to other species. Try several together.
@@tonibauer2949
I had mine in the early 90's , lol
Before UA-cam videos 😊
ive seen video of them in the wild in a stream and there was loads like im talkin 50 or more shoaling together so i guess as long as you have enough room for them to establish their own territories they should be fine i only have 3 in a 10 gallon got 3 cos that was the deal in store but mine get along fine i have a huge clump of moss on wood in middle of tank and two long grass plants at the front on each side
@@willwinn8559 I’m getting 2 for a 20 gallon long planted tank
My Pea Puffers lived for almost 4yrs, I had them on my desk, they would watch the monitor and go mental when I'd sit at my desk, as a dog would do when you come home from work, amazing little fish.
Sound advice on the pea puffers. My experience is that they feel safer in a group of 6+, as long as they each have their own hiding spot (densely planted tank is optimal). Because they naturally scour the substrate/plants for snails and food, they don't need a lot of swimming-space, only enough hiding spots to get out of the line of sight from eachother.
feeder fish have personalities. feeder fish lives matter
La Tormenta Game Farm I was planning on getting some of those but I’m afraid they’ll bring parasites in...
@@vanessacarlson606 quarantine them in a spare tank or bucket, my guy. If they have parasites or something, oh well. Feeder fish generally are really cheap so not too much of a loss
@@vanessacarlson606 I have 12 feeder fish in my community tank. In my place you get 12 feeder for less than 1$.
When I first bought my pea puffers I will have to admit I knew very little about them but I got 3 and put them in a community tank, I’ve had little to no problems with any of them and I’m pretty sure one of them is in love with my celestial Perl danios cause it just follows it around and swims beside it all the time
14 gallon cube planted and its become a "pest" snail tank. They seem to really like my terrible well water, I'm glad someone does
I've found that platys have quite a bit of personality, plus they're super easy for beginners.
I’ve found with shrimp that if you add any fish it majorly inhibits their behaviour, even if they’re minnows or nano fish. Shrimp act so different when in tank by themselves, highly recommend everyone keeps a shrimp tank at some stage. Keep it up Cory, love it
PHLuke 19 I got 75 painted fire shrimp and 3 months later I have 3. I paid for painted fire and got like 50 clear shrimp. I am never doing shrimp again.
In my 10gal...air. trying to think of what to do this vid came in on time
I just wanted to say that I LOVE the B-roll footage of the multis!!! LOL!
My pea puffer was so cute! He was in a five originally (and happy as can be) and soon got upgraded to my 20 community and then my 55 community tank, as I used him to clean up my pest snails. The most peaceful fish I've ever owned!
I have 3 female pea puffers in a 6 gallon planted tank, and they’re doing great! I have fluval U1 baffled with a intake sponge to reduce the current. I was lucky enough with my local fish store having fully grown puffers, so I could pick the females.
The shell dwellers are fun to watch!
You could order online i order online a lot and a lot of fish seem to do ok
andy.tv depends on the fish but I’m not sure for shell dwellers try aqua bid or a cichlid website like live fish direct
40 gallon tank ideas next? 🙈🙉
Totally I have a 45 and would love to know what other people keep
I just inherited 12 pea puffers 💞 They were stuffed into a 5.5 so I went out and bought them a 40 gallon. I hope that's enough space for them because it looks like eggs are on the subwassertang already.
Generally speaking the ratio is 5 gallons for 1 and add 3 gallons per puffer. Usually you only want 2-3 but i've seen larger colonies tho.
1 Male Black Copper Betta
7 Cobra Gubbies
6 Neon Tetras
2 Cory Catfish
1 Ghost Shrimp
Running an AquaClear 20 with a sponge pre filter. A 50 watt heater and an air stone. I do 25 - 30 percent water change weekly.
Great ideas! I'd love to try pipefish one day when I've got less on my plate.
I have 3 pea puffers in a 10 gallon they look at me every day - little cuties wanting their worms - so adorbs!
I have a 10 gallon with one vicious pea puffer. She decided the whole tank was hers.
Another with panda guppies that I'm breeding. Super fun.
And the last one is a fry grow out for strawberry bettas, my current favorite tank.
Footage looks particullarly AMAZING today Cory!
love these vids Cory! I work at a pet shop and it's difficult when people think a 10 gallon is huge and they can put a ton of fish in there. With your spotlights I can order and sell and steer people towards more appropriate fish. But man, do people get angry when I won't sell them a pleco for their 5 or 10!
@@aquafuzzyethan6617 If it's an average consumer that doesn't know a lot about plecos you might be able to get away with Oto's and other microcats.
I keep 2 male beta, one Oscar, a coral snake, and a saltwater puffer in my 10 gallon tank. It’s a perfect set up.
Oh yah and I use 6 pebbles “all purple” for my substrate.
Do a top 10 for the 20 longs maybe?
I'm dividing mine--betta on one side, peas on the other :P It's my son's tank, and he already has a betta, and has been wanting puffers ever since he met Murphy. The water parameters are nearly identical, and it's going to be easier to keep one set-up than two.
I don’t get why people like 20 L’s so much, when I was new to fish keeping I got a stand for a 20L because that’s what I heard was a good beginner tank size, but then quickly realized a 29 can fit on my stand but also give me more stocking options and I could fit more and taller plants inside of said 29 gallon!
@@ian281 I am in a wheelchair so the hight of the 20G long is better for me, since I can take care of it easier.
I am in the process of down sizing from a 29G as we speak.
Could you please make top 10 tank mates for guppies?
Great video Cory, I kept my pigmy puffer fish in a 10 gallon tank successfully for almost a year now, they are so much fun to keep one of my best fish purchases I love them.
I just love how casually and seriously you add that multis picking up the snails look like they have little trumpets in their mouths!
I am keeping penguin tetras in my 10 gallon and I honestly LOVE THEM... you look at their little lips and they are so cute... And it honestly seems like they know when im going to feed them because whenever I pick up the food they start doing this dance all together. I absolutely love them.
Shell dwellers is in futute for me. Puffers are awsome. I have 6 of them and just transferred them to 29 gallon. They are so much fun to watch. Everyone that sees them loves them. Another ten gallon i have blue pardise fish and ember tetras. Then 5 gallon with betta and some chili rasbora. Cory if you read this thank you for all tge content you put out. Maybe make video on ideas for 40 gallon breeder or 75 gallon.
I love my 10 gallon Honey Dwarf Gourami tank ! Gorgeous fish!
Big advocate for the pea puffers too. Never had a problem with them. Our pack of 6 are housed with peacock gudgeons and tiger endlers. They'll chase each other around but they basically ignore the other fish. Very hardy too.
I just got a dwarf pea puffer. FREAKING LOVE HIM/HER!!! I have it in a big community tank. Tiny little thing. Love trying to find him as he is so tiny within the plants and hiding places in the tank. LFS didn't know a lot about them so I've been trying to research.
I'm liking the pipefish idea. Currently tied for my favorite pet fish.
I liked that you incorporated more advanced setups and species... Thanks!
I would like to see a brackish water video. What types of plants, salinity, stocking, substrates, etc
Your videos make my days at work go by alot fast , Thank you.
I love the focus on the weird and unusual fish!
20 gallon for a classroom. Students will pick fish for a community tank! Bottom, middle, and top dwellers! Awesome content, love you!
Clown killifish, wrestling half beaks, green neon tetras and a checker board cichlid fun combo, tons of live plants too
Great info!!!! I’ve been having Cory withdrawal lately, thanks for the video!!! Can’t wait to see the pond 😬
omg i didn't know pea puffers were a thing, I'm definitely going to look into them for my 10 gallon!! theyre so cute!
My 10 was my first tank. Still new to the hobby. I have a betta, 5 cardinal tetra, and 2 otocinclus. Tank is perfect, everyone happy and water stays perfect. It could definately handle more bio load. I am saving that for my new 40 breeder though.
Great video. Can you please do a 30 gallon stocking ideas one?!
I owned pipefish for almost a year and let me say they are a very interesting fish to own. And the sound they made when catching cherry shrimp is like a mini gunshots.
I missed working with the pipe fish at the OKC Zoo. We have a dedicated tank just for them. I can say they are fun to watch and something out of the box to talk about when you have guests.
Thanks Cory, Great Video. Tank mates for a 20L would be another good subject.
I have two pea puffers in a 20 gallon, with kuhli. By far my favorite fish to keep.
The pipefish is so cool. When I went to H.C. Aquas fishroom last weekend I was amazed by his. He is looking for one for my tank. It suck cause they are rare. Great video Cory!
I have 4 pea puffers, 3 male, one female. Yes I know that's not ideal but they were super tiny when I bought them. I´ve had them for 9 months now in a 10 gallon tank and they are SO adorable! All of them are like that "dog who saves the baby". Tank is heavily planted so maybe that helps.
I recommend these puffers! They are so cute and funny.
Love these episodes!! Keep um up!!
Cool ideas. Thanks for sharing. I still like this format the best of all the Aquarium Co-Op videos formats. Cheers
What aspects do you like? The more insight I gain, the better I can fine tune them I suppose.
I like the simple setup. You setting in front of the camera talking directly into the camera. Feels personal like you are talking directly to me. You have always been good at talking to people instead of at people. Many UA-cam content makers talk at people and it can come off a little high and mighty. I get the sensation I'm at Aquarium Co-Op getting advice directly from you. p.s. nothing wrong with your more elaborate highly editing videos I just like this type a little more. This is what you were doing when I found you on UA-cam. I hope this helps. Cheers.
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate you taking the time to explain why you like it.
I love Puffers ......so cute with their big heads and compact bodies.
i do a half-moon betta, rubber lip plecko and panda tetras and love the colour the betta brings along with the uniqueness of the panda tetras.
In my 10 gallon heavy planted tank, I have 2 pieces of drift wood, a few river decor rocks, a small plastic gray skull, about 5 marimo moss balls, 1 male betta fish, 2 mystery snails (1 ivory, 1 gold), a small group of ghost shrimp, and a pair of african dwarf frogs
I have 3 pea puffers in a 10 gallon. Mine eat blood worms and snails (rams horn, pond snails). I also use an undergravel filter, with some moss and sagg. I've had them for10 or 11 months. Every time I come home they come to the side of the tank. I swear they smile. Love them.
Really great suggestions for a person like me who is short on floor space. Thank you.
Thanks Corey, I'll actually be stopping by your store this Sunday or Monday! Got any suggestions for a 50 gal planted tank?
Right now I have breeding guppies in my 10 gal. I also have a mystery snail helping to break down any of the hornwort, guppy grass, or octopus plant leaves that fall off. It's looking great and all my fry are doing well
Honestly man your video ideas are soooo good 👍🏻👍🏻
Love this series keep it up
Like a trumpet in its mouth😩😆 I love this channel
I had a 10 gallon on my night stand with ramshorn snails, daphnia seedshrimp and cyclops. Mainly for fish food but i really enjoyed having it there. Alot going on all the time.
My 10 gal consists of
-African Knifefish (brown knife fish)
-Upside-down catfish
-2 golden barbs (SUPER pretty)
-2 cherry barbs
-2 harlequin rasboras
Very active and very friendly tank with a WIDE spectrum of fish sizes (knife fish is 5x bigger than the barbs)
I love your videos. The information you provided for every different fish is great. However, I how about more pics of the tank and talk over that. Keep up the great work
I'm keeping ghost shrimp and pond snails in my 10 gallon currently. Using it as a food grow out tank for my GSP tank.
Great vid bro .... i happen to agree . I have my puffers in a 30 tall with guppies .... its working so far...oh and 2 shrimp red/ blue
Great video, love the ideas, especially the pipefish. I have a question regarding that, which might be a candidate for a video, or just a comment: for someone with limited space--like an apartment dweller, who is doing a pipefish 10 gallon--how would you go about setting up a daphnia culture JUST for feeding the pipefish tank?
i’ve been binge watching your videos recently because i got one 10 gallon tank with a crayfish, and now i want more tanks. the crayfish is seriously a pain in the butt, he tries to jump out of the tank every time you reach in to fix something, but he is beautiful. i really want a 20 or 40 gallon betta sorority tank with tons of plants and a big centerpiece of driftwood.
Thank you for this vid ❤️
I derimmed a 10 gallon this weekend just to see how hard it was. Now I'm thinking a nice pea puffer tank wouldn't be a bad idea. 😂👍
About 8 Guppies, 1 Betta and 4 cherry shrimp in my heavily planted 10 gallon. Water parameters are perfect and no ammonia spikes. 2 hotrodded filters. Everything works perfectly.
A great video to see on my birthday.
Awesome stuff. Would love to see some ideas for 75 or 55 sometime!
I have a large, thriving Opae'Ula colony in my 10.
I have Pelvicachromis pulcher a couple in a 10 gallons. With hiding spots and plants, they will do great
They have a great personality, are inquisitive, are awesome parents when they have fry.
I simply have 1 betta in a 10 gallon tank :)
I’m keeping simillis :-) they r so much fun to watch :-) regards
I’ve been keeping platies in my 10 gal, 1 male and two females and watch them breed. Most babies won’t survive but it’s really cool when they do. I also have 6 pigmy corydoras cleaning up around the bottom.
I had never considered puffers before. Thanks for the ideas
I have one snail and a couple feeder fish for cycling. Thank you for the videos about smaller tanks 👌👽👌🐌🐚
my pea puffer community tank in the 10 gal is such a fun little experiment working so well! 2 peapuffers one male one female with some ember tetras, few kuhli loahes and a bristle nose pleco
Love these sort of videos
I'd love to see some 20 gallon ideas since that's where I'm at right now (20 long and a 20 high). My 10 Gallon is now my QT, but I had platies and shrimp in there before the upgrade.
I always learn more from these vids
I have a 14 gallon stocked with 2 German blue rams, 3 threadfin rainbows, 6 ember tetras and 3 nerite snails. Been enjoying it for last 13 months.
I have a 20 gallon planted tank in cycling right now lol can't wait to go fish shopping.
Great video I have some Corrydoras and 5 cherry barbs growing out in a 10gal planted at the moment, cant get enough of corydoras. Defently a fish I think I will never stop keeping. Great video Cory hope China is awesome. :) have a great one mate.
Corydoras are too adorable. They quickly became my favorite even against some super pretty guppies and kohaku swordtails.
30 gallon tank ideas! I have a 10 gallon and an empty 30 gallon, and would love some ideas
Just got my first order from aquarium co op in today and very happy thanks for the stuff looki g forward on ordering some easy green next
That pea puffer is too cute!!!!
Cory can you do a video on red eye freshwater puffers? Thanks! :)
I recently rearranged and consolidate aquariums from all over the house. One of my favorites was a tank of Multies . The only problem I had with that tank was anytime I or anyone else approached, they would make a mad dash for their shells. When I moved them, I decided to add some Endlers just to see what would happen. Well, the Multies no longer would dash into their shells when anyone approached. They began to swim and stay in all levels of the aquarium. Never once have I seen them chase any Endler. I don't know yet if when the Endlers have fry, the Multies will eat them (they don't eat their own). You mentioned the fun of watching them move trumpet snails and their rearranging the tank bottom. You forgot to mention the fun of seeing the babies peeping out of the shells and racing back in -- always gives me a chuckle.
Never thought I’d love fish this much. I got a betta fish a few days ago with a 5 gal and now I want more fish so thanks for this
I’m glad you like it! I know I’m a bit late but I hope you upgrade the Betta to a 10-15 gallon. Despite the literally abuse stores and ill informed fish keepers do, they do best in those sized tanks. Also live plants are always recommended! :)
Great video! I keep couple Daisys Ricefish and a gardneri gold killifish with mystery snails in my ten gallon. I would love to get my plants growing. The only thing that seems to do well is my amazon sword.
I wish puffers where available in Australia, every time you mention them I want them even more 😭
My puffer fish are so funny to watch and feed! i love them !!
Your amazing! I love your Vids
Hi, Cory! I have a Betta & some White Cloud Mountain Minnows in my planted 10 gallon. It's right next to my chair & fun to watch. Thanks for all of your helpful info!
This actually isn't good stocking, as white clouds are cold water fish and betta are warm water fish. If you heat it the clouds will be unhappy, if you don't have a heater the betta will be unhappy.
Perfect video for me, as i've just started my first planted tank, but it's 15 gallons. So far my tank has a few nerite snails and some amano shrimp. I'm thinking of eventually adding a betta or some pea puffers, but i'm concerned they'll just murder all the shrimp?
Great ideas Cory. Shellie’s are very difficult to come by up here (Vancouver BC) but they are super cool
Here are some more ideas for your 10 gallons tanks: ua-cam.com/video/GVdQhC6POvg/v-deo.html
I have a 10g in my apartment I want a bigger tank but have to wait till we move which could still be a few more years. In my 10g I have a kuhli loach (1), nerite snail, cherry barb (1), Colored Skirt Tetra (aka ghost tetras cause you can see thru them)x3, what I believe to be sunset cobra round tail guppy (2), and pest snails who I use to hate but man do they keep my tank in awesome condition! Are there any other puffers besides the pea puffer that would be okay in a 10 gallon tank? I really want a pufferfishhhh!
Peacock gudgeons in a planted 10g with some amanos, nerites, and hasbrosus cories
Hi Cory.... Could you do a Video on setting a 10 Gallon Tank as a Hospital / Quarantine Tank?
