      Aquarium Co-Op recently went to my friends house and he has a tank with a betta and some celestial pearl danios. He doesn't have a heater and doesn't use a water conditioner. What's the nice way of saying he should use those two things? He also lives in Canada. Also he apparently let's water sit in a bottle to off gas the chlorine before he adds it in but I read somewhere or other that the chloramines don't off gas plus there's the issue of heavy/toxic metals anyways. Is it fine or should I think of a nice way of saying he should get a heater and or a water conditioner additive.

    I have a blue/red vailtail betta in a 10 gallon heavily planted tank with 4 ghost shrimp, 2 cherry shrimp, a mystery snail and an otocinclus. I have the Aqueon 10 hang on back filter (hotrodded) and a sponge filter to make sure my slightly overstocked tank remains viable with excellent filtration. I am about 6 months into the life cycle of the tank and my particular betta seems to get along with my other critters quite well. Seeing the shrimp swim across the tank to run towards food is quite enjoyable.

    I have 3 pea puffers in a ten. Also guppies , Haitian live bares. Love it. Working on getting more fish. Have the tanks. Just working on getting things aranged. A very important idem that would be good to cover is how keeping fish can help mentally. I'm bipolar, have anxiety, plus a few other help problems. Having the fish draws my attention away from t.v. drama, and bad news. The hardest part for me was getting use to regular water changes. I'm final getting that under control. I have nine fish tanks running right now plus a snail tank w/pond & rams horns. This have all been since June of 17, I spent a month with my brother and he got me hooked on you, Rachel, Dustin, and Joey. Tanks sated going up in October 17. I have caught a major case of M.T.S.. By the way I'm 61, widowed, so you can start or get back into fish at any age. P.S. I'm working on giving it. M.T.S. to my daughter and grandson. Lol have a great day.

      I started fishkeeping with a 3.5 for the cats to watch. It quickly escalated to a 10 g and I realized how much it eased anxiety by keeping me present in the moment while maintaining and observing the tank. My 3.5 is now empty in a closet, the 10 is a quarantine tank next to my 29 gallon with 3 mollies, 3 (for now) amano shrimp, and 2 (again for now) peppered cory cats. Going to get another shrimp or two, two more cats, and probably 7 guppies.

      Yeah...It really helps with depression...I have fallen in love with my new betta, I named him Blue, my new dwarf honey gourami and three pea puffers. All came with special personas. Currently I am keeping my betta in his 5 gal and others in my 10 gal. Those tanks are what I can afford for now and they are doing well with their mates. I dont know if sunset dwarf gouramis are aggressive with other gouramis but she is doing well with my honey guy. She started coming out her shell when she met him few days ago and now she doesnt flinch when I come near.

    I have two pea puffers that I keep in a ten gallon aquarium. They have lots of personality, and watching them eat and hunt is the best part. I tried to keep them as a species-only tank, and it turned out very well! If anyone wants to do a dwarf puffer (or pea puffer) tank, I recommend doing some heavy foliage that way they can get some distance from each other. Other than that, this is probably the best tank I own!

      The cartoonish look are member perks that people get with time rewards on our channel. Being that they are emojis essentially at low resolution we don't have a ton of room to work with when it comes to that.

    I’ve always been a big fish guy, but have a 10 gallon at the office that I decided to stock differently about a year ago.
    My “big” fish are usually cichlids. So let’s do a dwarf cichlid. I put in 3 electric blue rams. They need something else in there, too - not necessarily dither fish, but the concept works. I looked for something different, and decided to try celestial pearl danios. Those are great little fish! Beautiful, and the contrast with the electric blues worked out great! Then a pleco - anything outside the norm. (I’m not just a fish nerd, but a bit of a fish snob, too.) I did a snowball, and he is doing great in there, too, and while it doesn’t get noticed as a “theme”, but spots on the celestials and the snowball fit together.
    I have fallen in love with this small tank now!

    My experience regarding Bettas with shrimp was pretty short-lived. I put my new Betta in a tank with two Amanos, first they panicked then they hid so well I thought they were dead. Then I moved the Betta and they both turned up in a day. If I had waited longer they would've died for certain, because they were so afraid of the Betta they didn't even come out to eat. It was frustrating because the Betta didn't even seem to care at all about the shrimp.
    I'll try pygmy corys and neons next.

    • @AquariumCoop
      @AquariumCoop  6 років тому +5

      I'm not sure they would have died, as amanos can live off bio film. I think they would warm up to the tank long term.

    • @dominic.h.3363
      @dominic.h.3363 6 років тому +1

      Thanks for replying.
      I know they can live off bio film, but their hiding place was a spot with a surface area that was barely five square inches. I didn't have much in the way of hardscaping in that tank, because I wanted to maximize the swimming area for the fish, the only place they could hide was at the stem of a small piece of driftwood that is covered in moss. I'm not sure biofilm in this small of an area would replenish fast enough to sustain them long term. I have endler guppies and dusky nerites with them now, and they get along pretty well. :)

      I’ve had awful experiences with shrimp. I’ve only ever tried keeping ghost shrimp and they’ve eaten each other, when I transferred the ones that survived quarantine to my guppy and molly tank the fish devoured the shrimp and before that a few years ago I tried putting them with my betta and they were gone within a week after nipping at my Bettas fins. I felt so bad. I wanted to keep a shrimp tank but I’ve been traumatized lol.

    With the betta tank, you mentioned having a schooling fish, like a neon tetra, and a bottom dweller, like a cory. How many fish would be too many to have in the tank? Like, would the betta, 3 cory, and 3 tetra be good? I feel like the schooling fish should have more, but I don't want to overstock the tank.

    I'm currently using my 10 gallon as a breeder to further stock my 75 gallon aquarium. All the fish in there could definitely do okay in a 10er, I have Celestial Pearl Danios, Pseudomugil Luminatus, Neons, Otto cats cause there's nothing better as a cleaner imo, Amano shrimp, Bloody Mary shrimp (and a rogue Orange shrimp that my local shop gave me by accident), pond snails that snuck in along with trumpets, and a single betta. All these do great in there, but I highly recommend the Pseudomugils or the CPDs, both are tied for my favorite and love dense planting. Keep them together if you want, they've all gotten along great

    I really like the idea of a dwarf frog tank. I currently have a 20 gallon long sitting empty that I was going to use to try to raise up corydoras (the ones in my display tank have started laying eggs) but if that doesn't work I may just have to get some little frog buddies.

    I have stocked as a breeder but recommend everything on this list. Currently: Colony's of Neocaridina shrimp , Guppy trios and colony's, Ramshorn and Malaysian trumpet snails. In the past: Breading pairs only! "Apistogramma"-Cacatuodes/Iniridae/Agassizii/Viejita, Bristlenose pleco Common and super red, Rocket Killie and Gold austriale Killie. When it came to the Bristlenose plecos the fry were removed after 2 weeks and moved to larger tanks. Not moving the fry results in an over stocked tank as soon as the fry begin to grow two weeks gave them a little time to toughen up before moving.

    Well I bought a trio of Guppies supposed to be one male to female well being two males and 1 female so I went and bought another female and the one male who is I believe it's a tuxedo guppy he became really aggressive to my other Guppies so one day I was tired of him picking on the other Guppies so I dropped him in my 10 gallon betta tank and he is very docile in there I think the betta fish keeps him in check and I also have a 30 gallon Community tank that has a couple extra Guppies because I don't want them picking on the females some neon some black tetras and red tetras picasimus kuhli loach and some shrimp thanks for the awesome videos love watching them

    Dwarf frogs are some of my favorite aquarium inhabitants. If you put fish with them, they can actually do well if you pick other fish with good temperament. I keep mine with Khuli loaches and a betta and their competition is very minimal.

    I got a betta and 6 neon tetras in a 10G, with ph of 7.5 to 8.5. and they are doing fine with no adverse effect since February 2018. I was worried at start but i am cool now.
    Only added pothos in it, as i had no success with java moss, java fern and Amazon sword.
    The best thing is, even by end of four weeks the water quality is still perfect, and wc is done to lower the TDS and pH.

    I have a tiny Betta that I kinda "rescued". Basically, it was a breeding fail, and that caused the breeder to sell it early. It's not even adult... It was about the size of an adult harlequin rasborra. It was so stressed at the store and the fins were trashed by the rasborras... So I bought him... And named him Jimmie... He's doing much better in his new tank. Plenty of space for one small boy.

    One of my tanks is a 10.5 gallon (40~ litres) with a white-gold halfmoon super-delta betta (beautiful fish), with CPDs and Pygmy Corys. Heavily planted, bettas are related to gourami so will appreciate lots of plants and floating plants too. I also have a few freshwater tiger shrimp in with them, and the betta and CPD's have barely stopped to look at them. It really depends on the nature of the fish. Always recommend CPD and Pygmy Corys, they don't get enough love! Pygmy Corys need a minimum of 5 in a tank to be truly happy, CPD need 1 male to 2 females roughly, and you want a group so between 6 and 7 is ideal for a tank that size.

    My golden wonder killifish swallowed a Debauwi Catfish that was 75% his size-so yes watch putting them with smaller fish. Mine was very aggressive-had to be male. He calmed down a bit when I threw a couple angels in there that could kick his butt. And I have had one golden jump clear out of a tank through a lid that was raised an inch. Mine were in a 20 or 29 high. But the other Killi-types mentioned I’ve had a couple of the Gardneri Killifish and they are absolutely fantastic! Great personalities and funny to watch.

    Scarlet badii are amazing in ten gallon. Live brine shrimp is preferred but frozen works. Will sometimes eat flakes. Live plants. Dwarf hair grass, carpet plant, river rock, sand ,Carib substrate for plants. No heat. Sponge filter and small hang over the back filter.

    Question: Would 4 zebra Danios, 2 dwarf Gouramis, And 2 Cory Catfish would be a good tank? Or should I get a few more Cory catfish?

    • @annaryan3001
      @annaryan3001 4 роки тому

      Tbh, it sounds a tad bit overstocked but full of color. If you have previous experience with aquariums, you could get it to work though. Another thing is that Cory fish like to school, so 2 wouldn't be enough. I know this is a late response, and if you've come up with smthn else, please share! I am looking for inspiration.

    In my 10 gallon tank I have a male veiltail betta and 6 zebra danios. The betta has not shown a single sign of aggression towards them, just curiosity the first couple of days. Feeding time is fun, because the danios are super fast at eating. I taught my betta to go to the opposite side of the tank during feeding time so that I can feed him separately while the little pigs are eating to make sure he gets his food. The first day I fed them together the betta was trying to compete for food and barely got anything, and it broke my heart. But within two days of “training” he was already swimming to the right side of the tank to wait for me to give him his food.
