hi Malcolm great vid. ive got a daiwa lexa 400 right hand wind on a low mount rod that sometimes engages the winder and locks the free spin. it has a power handle so i thought it might be the momentum it causes when casting.? i dont have the same issue on my lexa 300 left hand wind ( left being my preferred winding side) have you come across this before
I used a Daiwa SL20 and thumbed the braid on with no worries since 1995. I now use Berkley Whiplash, 50lb is .17 & 65lb is .21mm. I have used Fireline, but find Whiplash best. It is easy on the thumb. I fish braid day in and day out with no issues. Round profile makes Whiplash really easy to use. Revo reels are outstanding - I prefer the 50 as I use braid in 50lb, would advise the 60 size for mono. No mag brakes, but stunning to cast very well built
Enjoyed the video thanks for posting. Are you using fused braid (firewire or similar) or multistrand braid? Also how do you get on using braid with a reel without a levelwind like a 525mag or a SL20SH? I thought the braid dug into itself and caused issues? No problems with chaffing your thumb? Is that reel an abu revo toro, if so is it a 50 or 60 size? Do they have a magnetic cast control?
Only one thing I didn't like about this video. you drag that fish over the stones, and then decide to let it go.. you must know been a complete angler that one of a fishes defenses through out its life is the outer layer of slime and its scales..

Nice video great information do you use a shock leader and if so how long is it?
