I wish more tutorials where like this, keeping stuff straight forward, not wasting the viewers time but the same feeling fairly non-formal and just about a small useful little trick.
It's awkward to explain. Basically a rule of thumb is to avoid "ngons". Which are faces that are 5 or more sides. So triangulating will basically convert those ngons to tris.
