    As some of you may know, I really love recreating anime style textures. Like, really, really, really love doing it. So much in fact, I created a full course dedicated to teaching you how to make textures like this in the 3D Artists Coloring Book, and today I wanted to share a bit of my latest tutorial, which I’m super excited to announce is officially live this morning.
    Now, if you’re watching this on UA-cam that this means this is just a small sample of the full tutorial, if you want to get the full commentated tutorial, consider joining here: bit.ly/2PyWaRY

      you cant really blame them, they followed the direction of his son, with his father not helping, to you know, try to get him to create his own work, also it was one of their first time creating 3d only, probably in a new way. The father since came out of retirement after this was released, probably due to shame no doubt, and hes working on a new anime. You can probably imagine the emotions the father felt after towards his company.

    I would love an actual anime style mmorpg (with skill systems like "you were hit x times with poison, now have level 1 poison resist" style, etc) and you can't learn everything and you can't be the master of every skill, you end up unique based on your own playstyle and story. Along with having the art style of studio ghibli, fuck yeha. that would be dope.

    Really cool video! I love ghibli style for 3d stuff. I have a question though. The material created with this process would be a procedural one, like there would be no tilling and etc in a large mesh, or is it a regular 2d tillable texture? Don't know if it's a stupid question but I'm new to this.

    • @TheToppings
      @TheToppings 3 роки тому +6

      It's made with generators that apply to the whole uv space so there wouldn't be any tiling unless scaled and defined to tile. At the end where he makes this a smart material you can drag it to any mesh. you can look at the default smart materials and see how they work. hope that helps

    Thanks to substance I customized my own smart textures. All I need to do to get "my style" is to slap it ok the layer. Add some gradients and mask some bits and voila!
    Hand painting is now more of a case of "designing" of what textures go where.
    If you come from 2D like me. Do NOT get married to the idea of hand painting. Do as much via PBR shaders and you'll be surprised how fast you can create stuff.

      Smart Materials can be used to just drag and drop on your object/the part you want it to be on with help of a black mask. If you really want to use 3d for your 2d environments the best way is to just use projection masking. Then again the Ghibli style is actually a pretty damn easy style to imitate because of the flat cell shaded colouring it mostly just requires stamp brushes so you might as well just paint it entirely in Photoshop, it's actually faster.

    • @philosophyfrog2653
      @philosophyfrog2653 2 роки тому +2

      @N0D3 Yeah well it depends a lot on your own painting skills of course but it's still a lot faster to paint these type of backgrounds than model them and create cell shaded materials. The only reason to do this is if you have a complex camera movement in your shot which is rarely the case. Would mostly occur in an action scene.
