      I think the tool which is saw in this case has to be sharp. I tried many times but what happens is if its not cutting quickly we get tired and then it stsrt going wrong. ):

      Hi David,thank you so much for your reply. there is a technique I would love you to do a video on and that would be how to cut a perfect circle from a piece of about 3/4inch plywood with a circumference of about 3 inches using hand tools if possible.The reason is I am currently making a whirligig and need to make a hub for the propeller. I do have a jigsaw but is getting a bit old now and doesn't cut a very edge no matter what blade I put in, I really should just buy a new one but was wondering if its possible to do by hand. All the very best...Trev.

    • @RusticDavid
      @RusticDavid  5 років тому

      Hi Trevor hmmmm! Do you have a semi decent hand saw? If so draw the circle on a piece of thick enough wood for your hub then drill a hole in the center screw the piece on the edge of a table or something secure then saw off straight lines that touch the edge of the circle keep doing this and rotating the work piece you will end up with a rough hexagon then use a rasp or sandpaper to round the corners continue removing corners until it’s round it’s interesting I will give it a try too and video it best of luck David

    What a great video sir.
    Thank you so much for your insight in how to make a bridal joint, not that I even knew what a bridal joint was,☺️
    I’ve just starting working with wood.
    I wanted to get a nice big square block of wood drill through the middle to make a lamp as I have lovely wooden furniture with metal rustic handles in my room.
    Thank you so much, now I know exactly how to do a bridal joint myself, well I’ll give it my best shot
    I love the way you do it by hand, old school saw & chisel
    I’ll let you know how I got on.
    Brilliant 👍🏻👍🏻
    Thanks again

      Rustic David..... I will do, I think I missed my calling I love working with wood.
      Just made a really nice cat pole 6 for high with a 8x8 square piece cut out & wrapped in carpet.
      I would have done a video myself but maybe wait till I get a bit better.
      I really do prefer hand saws to electrical saws.
      Kind regards
      John

      Btw if the hole in the block is for the cable and your drill is short you have 2 options or extend the drill either buy extension or weld it to round stock or take 2 pieces of wood and cut a groove in one you can use a chisel if you have one and glue the 2 blocks together creating a hole through th middle

  • @teravya1301

    As long as recycling furniture the basic technique of corner joint is well explained systematically though it's an ancient technology it is still in use wherever wood is the medium. What about other modern materials ?Say .. MD, plywood and fibreboard . Will you please make any video or suggest some links. Thanks.

    Hi, just glueing seems weak . How about screwing the two mortise and the tenon with screws that just about don't protrude out in addition to glue?

    • @RusticDavid
      @RusticDavid  5 років тому

      Hi Ari its a strong joint with glue and clamped but if you wish to reinforce it i would recommend drilling through the face of the joint and adding a dowel screws being harder than the wood will enlarge their holes under stress and eventually allow for play i hope that helped Happy woodworking David

    Hello my name is Zena. I LOVE your Diy videos! You explains everything so easy! Yes i subscribed to your channel. I don't know anything about woodworking, so I'll be asking you things as i do my own projects. Thank you so much for taking your time explaining everything in details. I'll be looking you up, when I start my first project; making a sturdy woodworking table. What do you buy to collect the dust as you work (i don't have a garage, I'm doing all my things in my basement)?

    • @RusticDavid
      @RusticDavid  5 років тому

      Hi Zena Thanks for your comment do you have a plan for your work table? To begin with you can simply sweep or use the vacuum cleaner if you use jig saw you might be able to connect it to your vacuum or there are bigger vacuum cleaners for workshops that can connect to your tools anyway I look forward to hearing how you progress Happy Woodworking David
