Вставка
- Опубліковано 31 тра 2024
- From the Amen Break to the Apache Loop, the art and science of drum sampling has played a crucial role in the development and evolution of electronic music. But as the years pass into decades, the stories of certain breaks may take an unexpected path, or be forgotten entirely.

i love how i recognized that folder right away, it’s actually called “breakcore is not a good way to get laid” now (or at least that’s what it was called when i downloaded it)
so basically, this sample is from the live performance of “tighten up” by james brown. the reason it’s called “samurai” is most likely because it was sampled off “the seven samurai” by photek, or at least associated it with it.
This is it indeed, I've been sampling Tighten Up a lot lately and you're right with no question
90s Drum and Bass has been my year long obsession and this is exactly why. Awesome work man, incredibly underrated!
Born, live, and die in the jungle
@@supermasterfighter junglist massive
I was able to trace the origin of the break back further! And by complete accident, too: It's on a sample CD titled "Zero-G Jungle Warfare 3". I've heard samples from this series all over VGM, not just the drum breaks but the misc. pads and stuff are present in a lot of jungle. I'll implore you to find it yourself because you know how linking these things goes... A quick google search should get you started.
this is the truth
Further, it's originally from "Tighten Up" by James Brown
Toonami bumpers and the PPG main/tile card themes were some of the first examples of drum sampling that really stood out to me.
This is absolutely some of the most fascinating content out there. I only found you today and working my way through your account, you have something really special here. Keep going, man. You're smart as hell and you have real soul.
Jungle, Hardcore Breakbeat, DnB and Many others have come to me because of this so lovely break that I was addicted to, I found out that it was sampled from James Brown's "Tighten Up" because of the ride cymbals albeit EQ'd
Sorry to be that guy but did you mean right cymbals or were you deliberately saying ride symbols because there were some symbols on idk like the file display image of a specific sample of the break?
@@SeraphinSnecmel cymbals** arregghh didn't notice that mistake lmfao
Very interesting. I never thought how deep drum sampling can go.
This is a very great in depth video about how the drum sample itself is a driving force of developing new music. I don’t ever wanna hear anyone saying sampling isn’t real music!
Thank you for feeding my special interests with your channel's content.
really cool stuff my guy, this is very interesting history, and i love your take on sampling and its way of collaboration over decades. i've never thought of it like that
V interesting!
Love that little vocal snip from the start of the Think break, pops up so regularly in jungle / drum and bass.
...and good pic of a young Goldie and Kemi 😉
Exremely underrated channel. Great videos as always! I hope you get acknowledged for your work!
I saw a couple of pieces on the history of the Amen and other breaks over the years - but your writing style, narration and visuals are definitely the cherry on top of the crop 💓
Dear god I love finding hidden gold like your channel.
Love me some breakcore, so I was immediately fascinated by this video and then I had to put it down as inspiration struck and I had to do some writing. Turns out that a large reason I love poetry may have something to do with the Prodigy.
good mention of the tramen break!
Watched this video right before starting ableton and chopping some breaks'
Great job 👍
This creator has a voice that calms my everything while presenting info
If you also want to know. Its also called tighten up I think
I did not comment on this when it came out despite watching it twice and "slapping that like button." Wondrous video, pleasure collaborating as always!
omg I have the exact sample pack you have with the 'breaks' and the 'breakz' folders, this is so funny xD
Loved this video. It should really have thousands more views. Great work!
Amazing explaining! I recognized these drums breaks while watching the video:
3:50 Dexter Wansel - Theme From The Planets
14:05 LL Cool J - Smokin' Dopin
u-ziq shout out pog
Absolutely fantastic video. I've I've been messing around with FL Studio for a little over ten years. The art of sampling is so much more complex than amyone realizes.
damn you really got me feelin emotional over breaks, huh?
yet another great video, i definitely learned something from this
best use of the james brown break I know is squarepusher - beep street
banger
this is the single best youtube video i have ever seen please make more
I NEED more music related videos from this channel.
actually came to this video after finding the samurai loop in that 12 year old youtube video you dug up. Nice work!
great video!
So wild, the Think loop was used in a track from the soundtrack of Excitebike 64. I knew that vox sound as soon as I heard it!
Actually know about this pack now. It’s called “Breakcore is not a good way to get laid” or some variation of that.
Lmao I was halfway through the video before I noticed the channel name and that you were the same guy who made the old internet and Myspace videos I had watched earlier today. Two completely unrelated subjects that I'm equally interested in
8:57 DO I HEAR "Baraka - I'll Be There" IN THE BACKGROUND?
yessir
Underrated video🦾
This channel is so underrated
This is gonna be good
Post the drum pack, if you can.
Love this video
i hate that i could already identify the sample pack just from the "2 of the categories were devoted to specific bpms"
great video btw
tell us then

@@ZVLIAN breakcore is not a good way to get laid
an endless amount of sample packs have those randomly dotted throughout in fairness
where to get the sample pack bro
Here before it gets popular! But good job very interesting video 👍
Yea I definitely have heard most of them used in breakcore songs
i think i had that drum pack too and the disk got broken, i wish i knew where to find it again

I remember it from Unreal Tournament Lock BGS
Would you be able to post a link for the drum sample pack?

Junglejungle moment
big ups to all my Junglists
As one might expect given my track record, I prefer the terracotta break
cant listen to compare them rn but the samurai break sounds a lot like the drums on zatoichi by denzel curry
I think zatoichi just uses the amen break
Powerpuff Girls.

james brown wasn't a drummer mate... of course you never found it looking at a singers discography.
it's an Art Blakey sample.
