My big brother teached me how to play on the ps1 and one of the first games were tomba 1 & 2. 5 years ago we found and emulator and successfully ran through both games again, we had never completed the first 100%. Ever since then I couldn't xonfigure the emulator and it no longer played. We both have jobs and life goes on, so I kind of made peace that 5yrs ago might have been the last time we get to play Tomba.. We follow this channel and enjoy all the Tomba related humor, but seeing this video today, laughing for the first half, thinking it another prank, then crying the second half, seeing its actually happening. I am blissed and deeply grateful. Dear Tomba loving fellows, I learned that game or no game, the even more important joy comes from living like Tomba. Helping those in need, and in doing so, lift the curse from the lands that surround us and make the world a better place. Using our courage, strength, and wisdom with the tools we aquired along our journey. I believe this is the essence of this masterpiece, that has left such a stong mark despite every other game we played, weather it was intentional or not. And that I was raised a better persin having been influenced by this at such a young age. When persevering in the good and things get difficult, I start hearing the soundtracks at the back of my mind and remember if he could, I would. Maybe even have fun in doing so. And when things are great, and I move through beautiful landscapes, I hear the "curse lifted" tracks. Giving me a spring in my step and a cheery heart. Like the soft glide of the "bird clothes" suit. Definitely picking this bad boy up on steam and possibly a physical switch copy on launch. Don’t worry boss, I’ll do my part with buying copies lol. Hope that 2 will get a similar re-release treatment afterwards too if it’s not already planned “behind-the-scenes”.
My only worry is wether it still has the original OST or not, the new one sounds nice but, I know these themes by heart, it just wouldn't be the same without them

I "just" have the switch so I checked how much a limited run switch game would cost me (about 80€ after shipping and impory taxes, for a 45$ game) and damn.. as much as I love Tombi I know I won't be able to buy that; but if it's on the eshop maybe I'll be able to buy it (albeit it won't feel as good as having it on my shelves). I've gotta put my 2 cents so we can maybe have a remake for the other game or even a third entry into the series!
One of the most important and influential games in my life, no doubt. I basically learned English to play it because I didn't know what the game wanted from me in the first section (I was eight and had like 0 English skills). I had to put it down for some time to come back later to finally be able to read menus and item descriptions. That was a revelation for the little me to see that tornado cutscene and to jolt off into the vast beauty that this game is. Did all the quests in it and recommended it to my friend who loved "Japanese" games. I'm actually thrilled to see the news it's coming back. No shot I can get a physical copy, fingers crossed for the E-shop release on the Switch!
Glad to see this available on modern platforms, but I can't say I'm not worried about the quality of the product, I certainly am not happy about the OST change, not much for the first game as that would be virtually the same, but for the second game in the series, which I believe has not yet been announced.
Guess i gotta start saving. Gonna buy digital and physical. Gonna have to buy to collectors and maybe the base games to get that sooner.... idk about that. But im quad dipping for sure
Tbh while I'm happy that LRG will be releasing this classic on the modern gaming platforms, for me they should have release both Tomba games under a single title (Example: The Tomba Wild Duology) on the modern gaming systems similar to Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy and Klonoa Fantasy Reverie Series. I mean the second Tomba game is a very good game too, but it deserves more love imo.
New OST? That's sacrilege. I will still buy it, but if they ever remake Tomba 2 with a different OST, I will have to pretend it does not exist. EDIT: I just learned that "soundfujita" was the original composer. Well that makes it much more respectful then! But my point still stands for Tomba 2, since the composer for the US release, Ashif Hakik, is no longer with us. If they ever re-release Tomba 2, the only respectful option is to allow a choice of JP/US soundtrack in the options. But that's neither here nor there at the moment.
The new soundtrack bit has me worried. Usually when rereleases of classic games gets new OSTs, it's a worse OST. But that trailer song is a bop ngl, so I'm cautiously optimistic, at least for now.
Hopefully the sales of the digital copies will be good enough to justify the sequel we've always wanted. But please Tombi 3, please, please don't be Balan Wonderland kind of game, be classic inspired but actually good!
