Critic is on point but I beat all the hover board races you didn't loose the ability to hover you have to hold the movement stick up to go higher. It turns from a left right to a left right higher and lower thing...

The hoverboard has aeroplane control when you boost in the air, if you hold up you'll go down. If you hold down, you'll go up. Don't hold anything if you wanna go straight. I thought these hoverboards were terrible until I realised if you just keep the stick neutral and focus on turning it's way better.
Edit: The "undodgeable" hit on the magnets in Clank's body is a puzzle, you've got to go around those beams.

As someone who has played both versions I can easily say there's little to no graphical difference, the controls are easier to use on the PS2 version since it has 2 analogue sticks and trigger buttons, but I like the PSP version more for the novelty of it being a portable game, like there would never be a reason I'd want to play this specific game on PS2 when I could play any of the far better made R&C games, but I can't play any of those on the PSP.

To be honest, I always felt like this game, among the other R&C games, was kind of mid-range, maybe under average, but not the worst. I finished both versions (the PS2 version when I was 6 and the PS2 version like 10 years later), and honestly, I didn't feel much of a difference between the two. R&C never had strong storylines (and even though there are exceptions), this game tends to be the worst, but at acceptable levels (for me at least). And gameplay-wise, I think size matters; it's a decent game. The parcour sections were kind of hard, even though I don't remember struggling with them on PS2. The blaster counterpart of this game is horrible; I used it only to level it up, so just for completitionism, but other than that, the final boss is weird but decently hard. All the sections of the game are different than the average R&C (because it's not an Insomniac game, I know), but that's what makes this game different and special in his way. Speaking of the controls, they were bad but acceptable, I don't remember having problems. R&C1 and R&C2 had similarly bad controls. Things got fixed later on in the series, but I thought if you managed to finish all the series in order, you wouldn't struggle with R&C SM. Anyway, you also bugged your hoverbord somehow, and I don't know how you managed to win the last race without the hover; it looks like a pain to me. The clank puzzles always were and are entertaining for me, and in this game even more, but I guess it's not the same for all the people. But I got to say, for the 6-year-old me, the giant clank space part was a nightmare. Other than that, I think for me, playing the PSP version on day one was the main reason why I like this game more than you do. It's definitely a game poorly aged, so definitely not a good game for today's standards, but I think it's not a disaster either.

One or two of these points sounds more like a skill issue rather than the game itself. Any time there’s a review of size matters a new flaw arises that comes from the reviewer instead of the game. Js review was one of the first to do this
Idk how you got through the first few races without levitating by pushing the stick backwards
Decent review nevertheless but you need to work on your arguments better some of these sound like nitpicks with poor explanation

This review reeks of I don't want to play the game properly or understand basic shit on how the controls/mechanics actually work. I played through this on the PSP itself and I never had a problem with the controls nor did I have issues with leveling up my weapons, the only problem I had was with how long it took me to get any armour pieces to make a decent set.

The game surely isnt as good as the ps2 originals but for being a psp game, this was incredible. Its was an on the go experience of the ps2 games. Gameplay is fairly close, weapons are fun, and the planeta were varied and it introduced that really cool armor system.
Also the psp vs ps2 criticizem is very fair because you play this game because you cant sit at home and play the ps2 games.

  • @Tovanos

The struggles with moving Ratchet around are due to a setting in PPSSPP. The analog stick does not reach the square corners of the movement range because the range is circular. There is a switch in the PPSSPP controller settings to allow full access across the range square. After this Ratchet moves like he should 😁 . It makes gameplay a lot easier, although like you I still struggled with the camera controls. The areas where you need to switch slingshot targets in mid-air are the worst as they are usually outside of the image window. Still, I enjoy it for what it is. It runs quite well on my old Samsung Galaxy S8 paired with a Gamesir X2s controller and it's a great way to pass the time on long car or train rides 😁

Size Matters for PS2 was my first Ratchet game. The PS2 version does have issues that the PSP doesn't. The online multiplayer was removed and the local multiplayer was limited to 2 players instead of 4 like the PSP had. There's also a glitch I ran into with some challenge mode playthroughs gimping the wrench to where it no longer damages enemies at all. Just a few examples from memory. Either way, both versions suck, but the PSP version on intended hardware on the go is more fun. The controls on the PS2 version always disappointed me.

I played size matters on the psp back when it first released and it is my first R&C game. I don’t have trouble playing the game even to this day with the ps vita. Last year I played the trilogy collection on the vita for the first time (i can’t afford home console PlayStation lol) anyway, although the collection is…talks among the community- I still had fun regardless.
The controls and weapons are the biggest complaints of the game, so I agree? No but do I disagree no. The D pad for strafe is so simple and easy because I don’t have to rely on a second button like the trilogy does, it gives me quick reflex from d papas strafe to free movement with the circle pad. The never had problems with the camera, I don’t know to explain the camera since everyone has their own way of controlling it- is it inconvenient? Heavily yes but I feel the map is planned straight while the trilogy was More open ended which gives the open world more time to breathe and know where to know.
The weapons selection in this game are my favorite in the series- am I nostalgic bitch for it heavily yes. I kinda don’t understand the weapons complain since I feel the weapons’ appearance and impact/sfx/and damage does kind of match what you’re buying. I always buy the new weapons I can afford, I never had a problem with bolts nor upgrades/add-ons.
The music is very my favorite in the series- though u can understand someone who doesn’t like the ost.
In conclusion, am I writing of based of nostalgia? Yes but no, I never played the trilogy until last year on the vita because I bought a vita in 2022. I don’t have nothing nostalgic with the trilogy yet I still love them and it give me more appreciation for size matters. From 2007-2022, size matters was the only game of R&C I’ve ever played. In currently in college and I’m playing size matters for the 10th time and I still love the game no matter what
……but the story is garbage now looking back lol

    • @xander_alv2262
      @xander_alv2262 Рік тому +1

Answering your final question it's because of the weapons being completely useless by the end game other R&C games have this same issue but in this game it's way worse just a handful of weapons deal an acceptable amount of damage you'll be better off using only the shock rocket (or laser gun if you could even afford it and managed to level it up a little) so you get only that ammo drop and speaking of ammo the goddamn game doesn't refill your ammo and it doesn't give back the amount of bolts you've used so couple of times in a row and you'll be completely broke and since the arenas are so fucking mind numbing and boring most people just stop playing

Do people really have a problem with the bolt currency? Because I never had trouble with bolts nor ammo, neither with the weapons’ damage. I’m genuinely curious because size matters was my first game and I beat it completely fine when it released, even now I still find it very easy to play. I never played the Arenas for bolts- I just play them for the fun of it. The gadgetrons puzzle games were are easy and the clank arena were interesting to say the least. I just did to brag that I completed them. Using the rocket and laser beam felt like baby mode with no challenge. My primary weapons always been the Lancerlot and the shotgun. When it comes to leveling up the weapons, I still don’t understand how people have trouble with it

    • @xander_alv2262
      @xander_alv2262 Рік тому +1

@@zapatitosonic8975 really? The shotgun fucking sucks never did enough damage so do the other weapons the sound design makes them sound powerless (because most of them are) and boring I've played that game multiple times and always struggled with bolts I even played the arenas which are really boring imo specialy the clank fighting ones and yet still I have barely enough bolts to buy the final weapon which doesn't happen in any other game except maybe for rac 1 besides baby mode? really? Making tanky ass enemies that hit like a truck doesn't make the game actually difficult nor does handicapping yourself the game is not hard it's just that everything is so damn tanky take Otto for example his attacks patterns are okay the fight it's actually not that hard but the fact that the games saves how much bolts you've spend and doesn't refill ammo like a checkpoint should adds a really annoying artificial difficulty spike which everybody can tell that does not make the game more engaging or more fun to play

At the time it was clear that these games were something completely different from the original IP. Personally hated Jak and Daxter Lost Frontier due to the complete butchering of the Jak Universe already established. Meanwhile R&C Size Matters was fine as a stand alone Portable game. I do believe you are being unfair due to the comparison of what it was meant to be because it was never suppose to be a Succesor. By this logic All 4 One and Quest for Booty are also awful games in compared to the rest.

But Secret Agent Clank on the other hand has numerous glitches, worse textures, no progressive scan, the screen fades to black for like half a second every time you enter the quick select & the cutscenes are in worse quality than on PSP. The only better thing in the PS2 port of SAC is that you get more bolts

okay yeah sure the game is not that great and has some flaws but you like the many other that did these kind of review barely even did any effort playing the game, and complains about thing that shouldn't be a problem in the 1st part.
the weapon damage : okay I get it it's not as destructive as the rift inducer from ratchet 3 like yeah okay but you illustrate it by showing a V1 shock canon vs a technomite of the LAST LV OF THE GAME like of course it wont kill jackshit, in UYA try to bring the v1 shockblaster in commande center you're aint killing anything either, and you know what you're not killing anything either with the N60 storm fully upgrade too. like sure I get it you don't wanna spend time on upgrading the weapon because there is no arena battle system and you don't want to replay the lv right sure but then how you complain about the weapon being bad if you're not even trying. I didn't see you using slim cognito upgrade either that are really nice bonus to have to. don't get me wrong I know the weapon are not quite close to be as good as the previous game but it's far away from the atrocity you just describe (and the mini turret launcher is remplaced by the Bee hive too)
then come the difficulty yeah sure the game is pretty hard but if you combine the fact that you don't even collect all the piece of armor and play them just for the stat on top of not upgrading your weapon, yeah sure it's impossible. Birth by sleep was also super hard, monster hunter was unfair but I don't recall it people saying the game was bad because of that ! the way you play the game is exactly how in BBS you would play lv1 critical with only fire as a spell or going no armor with the bone kris vs the fatalis like that yeah sure I can call the game impossible an complain I do 0 damage but that's just not the way to play, you're not going to nefarious with only the shock canon and a N60 storm either so why doing this in size matter ?
also another point everyone tends to say otto is unfair and unfun, sure it's not fun. Unfair ? no it's not you can actually do the boss wrench only with the base armor of the game, since you only played for the stat you're missing the whole point where armor give you special abilities that empower your wrench and the combo full fire + the poison helmet make a bubble of poison explode with a fire and poison dot all around you, and all you have to do is stack these damage and otto MELT like an ice cream in a heat wave.
another thing the way you kinda disrespect the programer saying "if they are former member it's for a reason (implying they sucked)" is just not true, one of the programer in the high impact game was in rac one the programer of the visibomb, the agent of doom, the pyrocitor the suck canon, the decoy glove, the bomb glove, umbris gaspar and gemlik base. Sometimes people are just hire for one game in a company they don't have to be permanent employee, or sometimes they just leave for some reason, and these people are the one that make ratchet and clank 1 so great so saying insomniac game got rid of them because they sucked is saying ratchet 1 sucked and that's not the case, it's just such an unfair compariaison because you guy don't take into account the fact that the game was made for the psp WITH hardware limitation and possibility for creativity. like again BBS sucked a lot compare to KH2, the world was linear and short, the fight were unfair, the gameplay is nothing but as fun as the previous entries and the story outside terra storyline was unintresting slow pacing and didn't make any sense does that mean suare enix suck in that case ? no not at all it just mean they have to work on a limited device and tried what they could to make the best game possible with those limitation in mind.
so yeah all this to say : Yes your right but on some point you're really unfair on your criticism on the game. and not only you but all this trend of shitting on size matter is also doing unfair criticism

16:42 Yeah! This is an absolute lie. I've played through this game enough times to know that the point your making here with the footage shown is garbage! When you draw enemies back beyond this point, they establish IFrames. You see, I know this because, back in 2021, I was playing through this game in an attempt to 100% it. And well, I was fooling around in this specific spot trying to get a skill point. I'd draw the little b*astards away from the big b*stards in order to smack them with the wrench. But, if you go too far beyond a certain point, specifically the point you show in the video, they become invincible! They'll eventually walk back to their respective spawn zone after some time passes. That's why they aren't being affected by your weapon fire. A lot of your points made about the controls, etc. Are really you just being bad at the game! I'm sorry, but that's how it goes with most of these negative reviews. This game isn't the best in the series of R&C games out, but it isn't the worst either! And it's far from a disgrace. Compared to other PSP titles released at that time. Resistance: Retribution for example. Size Matters has the same controls, and functions the very same. And as far as the PS2 port goes, it's the same as other PS2 Ratchet titles. Now, this game has a lot of neat concepts! The armour combination system being one of them. I also enjoy the Clank mini games! Unlike previous Ratchet titles, this game has its obligatory by the book Clank sections, but the introduction of the mini games is just great! Especially in challenge mode as it is a rather enjoyable bolt farm.

Dude you did NOT just say DX is not a butchered port as a comparison. DX is not just a subjectively bad port, it is objectively broken in many ways. The fucking thing completely broke the game's atmosphere and lighting engine, this is not debatable. Alongside that, the ports OF DX broke even more things down the line (the sound quality in the original PC port, and the steam port's stupid borders).
Like I just watched for a few minutes and noticed a lot of completely false statements, not just with DX, but also the fact that not all Jak games on PSP were handled by high impact. Daxter was handled by Ready at Dawn, yet another studio of former ND employees, but definitely not the same company. This is all pretty easy to confirm by just basic googling. I don't wanna pretend size matters is the same as DX, but you putting that there basically tells me you don't know what you are talking about, and are only interested in enforcing an opinion in an otherwise fully objective discussion (that being: ports ruining games).

@@xander_alv2262 Again with mere subjective bollocks meant to be passed off as factual proof the ports did not ruin the game. We are talking objectively lesser features and removed code, such as the entire lighting system, worse compression, and broken transparencies. This was very common with sixth gen ports, just because you "don't know about DX" does not matter. Look up a video or two, the DX ports are objectively worse on a technological level.
I really don't care about size matters, I think it's garbage, but I think being straight up ignorant is worse than being garbage. It's being garbage when you could just google things up and find out why people hate DX, and swear that it's the lesser version, instead of continuing to pretend these people are just wrong without actually hearing them out.

@@xander_alv2262 Well my point is not about Size Matters, it's about how OP uses Size Matters to say some genuine falsehoods about ports such as DX, while pretending to disprove one (one solved by pretty much everyone after 2013 since it's no longer the stone age).
It's less about Size Matters and more just not liking genuine lies?

Ironically, if some of the variables like for weapon damage values, armor damage reduction, bolt economy, and how physics work in the racing parts, the game could have been mid with a bad story at best.
The sound effects may be excused for being on PSP; however, Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep was originally a PSP game and had great sound effects and was able to properly work around the compromise of not being on PS2. So, I will not be giving Size Matters nor Secret Agent Clank a pass on the sound effects.

I think, at least for myself, the game's story and gameplay can be somewhat forgiven as it is a PSP title, the only truly frustrating thing about the game was the balancing of the difficulty. Yes it can be taken as saying a game is too hard, but I'd like to argue that making enemies bullet sponges to scale/drag out the game is not an appropriate path to take. I'd rather have a much shorter and enjoyable experience and re-play that in a 'new game+' setting.

You definitely had some emulator issues or controller problems in combo with sucking really bad at the game. After tweaking settings on ppsspp and my controls it was actually easy to 100%. You had a few decent points but other than that it was just 30 minutes of yapping

Fun fact about Sonic Adventure: The DX version is terrible on PC ( but not unplayable) on the GameCube it was mainly just visual glitches and inconsistent art style. The PC version has actual bugs and glitches not present in the original versions. Technically, the best version of Sonic Adventure is on PC with the Dreamcast Conversion patch.
    Here? No excuse.

These long form reviews are some of my favourite types of content on this site, so keep up the good work. I notice that a lot of great video game review channels get left unnoticed on here, but I’m sure you’ll be an outlier if you keep making content of this quality.
