This is the most important Ratchet and Clank video: so many plot holes existed in this game, and Azimuth wasn't even mentioned again. I still love the Future Series more than Rift Apart, but that's just me...
He should have Had A Counterpart of Himself in Rivet's Dimension( In A Fanfic I read it had a Different Dimension Version of Him Living with His People.
Agreed, I much preferred the Future Saga than Rift Apart. Ratchet wasn’t some overly earnest person void of legit any conceivable rough edges and was actually at least attempted on being expanded upon and shined on a new light as a legit grand stab to expand the saga. There was legit effort being put into taking the games into branching directions to see what works while also adding more and more layers for the characters and new world, whereas in Rift Apart all of that gloss and shine has practically been tossed aside for the sake of making this new consumable product which refuses to take any risks just for the sake of pleasing its target demographic. It’s terribly jarring and a different beast entirely, Ratchet in the game doesn’t even feel like a feasible interpretation that’s essentially the product of various dips and peaks that the series has offered but moreso an entirely character entirely if not just a continuation of the reboot which uprooted his entire character. There’s legit no spark here compared to the PS3 games. Sure, they weren’t the most thoroughly thought out games and did carry plot holes which were just plain baffling, but at least there were still much more faithful allusions to past entries and moments that felt earned given the several main and side games we’ve spent developing with the duo (such as when Ratchet and Clank chuckle at the sight of a laser grid’s ineptitude in Tools of Destruction, or how you can interact with the IRIS Supercomputer in the same game and ask about events from prior games, or A Crack in Times’ ultimate cathartics, etc.). New additions such as Rivet and Kit also feeling so goddamn half-baked and under-utilised to such baffling extents that it just makes the game so much less intuitive and more like a chore to actually sit through in the story department. Seeping so much more into the generic modern sci-fi tropes than the Future titles did. I mean they had Talwyn, sure, but most of ToD was just Ratchet and Clank and she wasn’t even in ACiT. There was no moment of alienation where Ratchet and Clank felt as though they were moreso being sidelined as an excuse to expand on these new characters as the titles knew that the reason we picked up and played the damn games was because it was called ‘Ratchet & Clank’ and not something else, whereas here it might as well be an entirely separate IP, yet another reboot, or just Rivet & Kit… Oof… it’s such a damn shame TBH, but yeah, I much prefer the Future Saga. It at least attempts to retain the heart of Ratchet & Clank and take risks with their newer stories as an attempt to genuinely expand on the duo and try something new. It wasn’t perfect, I still much prefer the PS2 titles, but it was honestly leagues better than Rift Apart… personally, I’d rank the games by putting the PS2 ones first, the Future games, Rift Apart, and then the spin-offs and the reboot.
One thing I hated, was that they got rid of the need for the Map-O-Matic and yet still put it in the game. The reason for it was to show hidden areas/collectables. However, in RA, just by walking near a collectable it's now on your map if you missed it and that's before you get the device. You can basically 100% each planet before even getting th M-O-M on your very first try, getting rid of backtracking entirely.
Dont listen to the people who think you're "nitpicking" and all that hullabaloo. Your opinion is more informed and worth listening to because you actually played all the games. And not the journalist whose only R&C game under their belt is Rift Apart calling it a MaStErPiEcE.
Sunset Overdrive is an overrated game by Edgy Kids, It's a boring, monotonous, generic game. The real underrated games from Insomniac are Resistance, Edge of Nowhere and Stormland.
@@deadlocked5337 wow great answer dude, resistance sadly made me sleep. And is funny because I hate games with humor you can lable as Edgy or LoL random like borderlands or the new saints row but that didn't happen to me with sunset overdrive and the way you move is so cool.
i miss a lot of stuff that were great in the original trilogy, but one thing i miss that didn't accure to me until now is how almost all NPC's absolutely hated you and only wanted to interact with you in order to gain something from you (usually bolts for an overpriced item). you used to be a literall nobody that saved the galaxy all the time, which was much more relatable than being a hero that saves the galaxy all the time from the get-go.
Might be an odd opinion, but given my experience playing *primarily* the PS2 quadrilogy... I got lost in Rift Apart's worlds, in a bad way. For one, there's no good way to scout out worlds as far as I could tell and beyond that in the moment-to-moment the game has a horrible time differentiating relevant gameplay elements from the environment. In the PS2 games, the design and texturing of platforming objects and enemies clearly contrasted with the environment-and in general the environment was more well-lit for navigation. I imagine this was originally because realtime shadows just weren't possible on the PS2's Graphics Synthesizer in any reasonable tier of performance memory or frametime-wise and not for the sake of the player, but Rift Apart isn't restricted in that way. And that sucks. I don't mind the controls or the mechanics of the gunplay at all, but I mind when I can't easily pick out where I am, where enemies are, and where supplies are at a mere glance. Rift Apart making a point of the lighting being seamless between the map elements and game entities and of having incredibly detailed and colorful maps leaves little (typically zero) space for large blotches of enemies to show and contrast with the environment. By not making them stick out, the enemies silently camouflage into the environment. Were this not a Ratchet and Clank game, would you bother with trying to break crates or jump to things you _might_ be able to stand on? By all means this could be an issue with my preferred playing experience (nearsighted, playing on a 55" TV at a distance of 10 meters) or my graphics settings overall, but that doesn't account for me playing the original games in similar or _worse_ conditions and never having this problem.
It often feels like media grades Ratchet and Clank on a curve (particularly since the PS4 game). Praising the character development and emotional moments in this game is just laughable. For the moments they tried to have emotional character moments they may as well have flashed ***THIS IS A CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT MOMENT*** on the screen. Overall, I enjoyed the game but they played it far too safe. Didn’t take advantage of the dimensional story enough and were afraid to add real emotional stakes. 7.5/10
@@beri4138 it feels like they’re afraid of having either game mechanics or story themes that are too complex for a 7 year old. Crack in Time had some pretty difficult puzzles but let you skip them. Rift Apart had the same option (I think) but the puzzles were far easier. I just wish the story were more in the vain of Psychonauts 2, where it could be enjoyed by kids but also deal with some emotionally heavy topics. The writers for Ratchet lean too heavily on the “family-friendly” aspect of it these days unfortunately
I have autism so I get easily overloaded and the amount of talking in games during action scenes drives me insane. Half the time they are just saying words that are not important and even if they are important I can't pay attention to anything at that point.
I HATE games where the NPCs are just constantly talking. The worst offender is Borderlands 3, I literally turn off speech volume because the characters NEVER SHUT UP! Its so damn annoying.
They should have make Rivet evil or more like “what would have Ratchet become if he doesn’t befriend Clank.” maybe more selfish? And an we try to turn her back from the dark path while she is working for Nefarious. Entirely different levels working against Ratchet or chasing him while Ratchet levels would have been about trying to make a new Dimensinator. Maybe bring back Angela who knew other Lombaxes but they were hiding for a while. Hell, we had orange Clank why not give her to Rivet but instead of a friend she would have been treated badly by Rivet since “she is just a machine”. Something opposite would have been great instead of duplicating the main character with gender swap.
"what would have Ratchet become if he doesn't befriend Clank". This game is partially about this statement! You see that rivet didn't have a sidekid like clank/kid so she lost against nefarious!
Rivet is more a recolor than "gender swap". It has thicker limps, wide shoulders, pecs, narrow tall hips & more muscle mass than Ratchet or "a heavier frame" as one of the devs said. Regardless of Rivet's gender. I will still dislike the character, because it doesn't add anything to Ratchet's story & can do everything Ratchet can.
@@richardt.6699 Rivet pretty much behaves like Ratchet in the game. In fact it can do everything Ratchet can. Boring. Rivet immediately picks up Clank in ground like it's nothing. It's like the game really tries hard to make Rivet likeable.
Didn't they say that Azimuth guy was what'd Ratchet be if he didn't have Clank? Rivet's just a recolor with the diet coke "edginess" added. They don't have the balls to go deeper into the jadedness with her so she's in that dubious spot of just riding the popularity of being a female lombax.
Totally, there was no need for Clank to stay crippled as his friends are literally mechanics, but nah he's just like "actually I'm starting to like my new look!", as if being disabled was like a fashion choice. Sure Rivet has a cool robot arm, but she can never restore her real biological arm. An actual permanent loss, where as Clank is just pretending to have lost something. Or rather, the writers are. I hope the next game just forgets this subplot.
@@kwk111 I touched upon this in my video about Rivet (shameless plug, I know), it was suppose to be a deep message about disability but in the credits, they fix him so it's ableist AF.
@@YouDontWantItWithMe Not many but I can play Mario Odyssey for actual good platforming, Doom for actual good action and the old Ratchets for actual good/witty writing and fun comedy. What does Rift Apart bring to the table if I'm older than 5 and wont be satisfied with the most generic, boring, bland Pixar movie shit?
I've been on a weird grind of watching UA-camrs criticizing/ crapping on popular games, and this has been the entertaining and palatable I've watched. I don't even care about rift apart and whether it sucks or not. But it's a well done video. Hopefully, in the future you choose a game I actually care about and say it sucks...then we'll see how I feel.
Im Im the same.boat for some reason i watch many videos critical about games even if it isnt a game i care about or plan on getting i just watch to hear what people have to say
The creators screwed this game up bad. Ratchet actually had a personality in the OG games. He's a shell of himself and a cornball now. ITs pathetic and a damn shame to see what they did to him
Truly, same as rivit whos even more shallow and gets more screen time for some reason. The weapons feel horrible, theres way too many of them and theyre not even hard to get. They keep recycling the same 3 enemies. Plus this is all coming from someone who only played deadlocked and tools of destruction so it says a lot.
@@larry8712eh I can kinda excuse that since it was just an attempt by the devs to shift the focus on other’s characters besides the duo since most of the conflict between them is wrapped up. It just falls flat because of how uninteresting rivet is
I didn't like Rivet from the moment she appeared. It's the company's desperation to have a female lead, so fuc* the entire franchise storyline. Rivet is a Ratchet but an inferior version, it is very generic. just changed the color palettes of the "characters from the other dimension", I wonder, what is the need for this??? My biggest fear is that more solo franchise games will appear with her, which I have no doubt they will do in the future. They are killing our lombax boy and replacing him with a generic badass lombax girl.
When I first saw the Rift Apart trailer last year, I sighed, continued scrolling, and didn’t even follow up with pre-release news for it. Don’t have a PS5, don’t plan on buying this game, literally all it made me do was replay the originals on the PS2. It’s so crazy the series became what the older games made fun of. I think they’re so focused on making insane graphics and theatrical elements that they forget to focus on character building. Don’t get me wrong, if it was an entirely different series then this game looks great, but the direction they keep choosing to go with this series is really, really disappointing. Great video btw, reminds me a lot of “How Ratchet Lost his Edge” by TGB. I’ll check out your other videos too!
I actually enjoyed characters in Rift Apart. Ratchet has came a long way since the first game and he has become much more mature. Rivet is a nice new addition to the series and her interaction with Kit was quite sweet. Also I don’t think that series has become what is was making fun of. Back then it was a satire on consumerism, capitalism and stuff like that and now they have changed direction. I don’t see a problem in it. It’s not bad, it’s just different. But then again, that's just how I see it.
@@gold_gear yeah but we dont see him matured in rift apart. His design looks he gets younger and his character is not different not because of he is matured. Its because of he has a different character.
@@Rachebart His design looks like a matured version of Ratchet from Into the Nexus so it makes sense. In terms of character development, he is actually more mature. In the past he was more impulsive and stubborn while now he is calmer and more rational. This hasn’t appeared from nowhere, it started back in the future saga and I think that it’s pretty decent character change:)
@@gold_gear yeag from nexus yes but from crack in time no. Crack in time looks like a matured version of all his designs before and than they downgraded his design to a younger version. He had his character development in his older games he dont need that in rift apart.
@@gold_gear yes this point i agree with you he is not impulsive and stubborn anymore and that is very good i think. But where us his character, his jokes his humor ? Thats what i hate all this is gone. And his design looks very bad for me. Crack in time have the best ratchet design.
@@Rachebart better? I disagree. This game has the most interesting action sequences from the entire series. And every character is very charming. How can you say that they are funny in a bad way? Almost everyone has its inner conflicts and also some great jokes. That’s just my opinion again.
@@gold_gear I definitely agree with you I really love how Insomniac improved the series with every game. From the visuals to fast loading times and the combat has never been so satisfying because they added something new to the table even after playing the PS2 titles and this is the most beautiful looking game in the entire series by far in my opinion this game truly shows how much Insomniac improved over the years and I love how the characters are unique in their own way especially Rivet and Kit
with the reeboot retconning, I think it was confirmed that the movie (and therefore the game) is an in universe thing so the parade would use the plots of the movie (in universe) to convey easier as no-one would really know the fine details of rac 1 apart from ratchet & clank
If I remember correctly, one of the devs stated that the OG games are still cannon, but the movie + 2016 game are practically Quarks retelling of the events.
6:24 Reboot can be counted as canon, cuz it's a story that Qwark told. Since he wasn't there, that's how it could look to him, and here is a small theory: Qwark organized the track. It would have sense then. (sry for bad English, I'm still learning)
As someone who 100% this game, got the platinum and consider it part of my top 5 favorite games in the series a lot of your criticisms are understandable. Realistically I do think the PS5 will be the last generation of the series and besides the obvious addressing that ratchet and rivet are the exact same in gameplay, game structure, enemy variety and revamping the weapon system similar to what they did for armor I don't think a sequel to RA would be that different gameplay wise. I feel the only reason this game exists (besides the IP being proven to actually being something people will support enough to justify being greenlit) is because Insomniac is just capable of doing it and hearing how this game was made with no crunch in 3 years (probably why it needed a few patches for extra polish) with a couple developers even saying how much they had fun working on it makes me happy because I can see the passion put in this game even with its flaws.
The reason they keep the leveling up weapons system is because people REALLY like and consider one of the best additions from Ratchet & Clank Going Commando. It incentives using different weapons, and sticking with your older ones!
Exactly! I just wish they did more with it. Like, some weapon "evolutions" are kinda lackluster. The Void Repulsor now grabs projectile and shoots them back! I mean yeah cool, but it should have been the weapon's gimmick from the start, and is barely used as there are, like, 2-3 enemies that shoot projectiles, not to mention the shield depletes faster than you can send them back at times. Toxiary Sprinkler and Cold Front are another good example as well. Making the bushed enemies take poison damage or whatever the Toxiary Sprinkler does isn't that much of an addiction, same goes for the icicles popping out of the frozen enemies in Cold Front's case. I haven't played most of the other games (only Deadlocked, Size Matters and the reboot, basically the least liked in most people's tier lists with the exception of Deadlocked maybe), but the upgrades there felt much more rewarding. It may just be my nostalgia talking, but seeing rainbow projectiles come off your level 100 guns in Deadlocked was so cool as a kid lol.
in my opinion it was a gimmick that should have remained as a R&C2 only. from what i can remember, the whole genius of R&C 1 is that all the weapons are relevant throughout the entire game, regardless of how strong they are, because every encounter is dealt with differently. some encounters may benefit from using the Devestator, when some can benefit from the Mine Glove, and some from the Glove of Doom, and so on and so forth. theres no one point in the game where a weapon stops being relevant, whereas in the later games, if you dont level up your weapons they simply become useless. i remember finishing R&C 2 with only the Mini Nuke and the Lancer, meaning something in the design of the combat system is flawed.
They could have built on that system in better ways though. In R&C2 leveling up a weapon gave it new features and made it even more devastating (except the lava gun). In R&C3 the guns gained new abilities with each level and then got a huge upgrade like in 2 at level 5. With Deadlocked they started the numbers upgrade system, where only the stats got upgraded. BUT: Deadlocked also had one of the best mod systems, where you could modify your weapon to your liking. Give it an elemental damage you like, including funny stuff like explosive time delayed goo on impact. And then you could modify ammo capacity, auto lock on range, explosion radius, etc. But since the Future series, they have bet on the Raritanium upgrade tree system and didnt do anything new. The weapons hardly change or upgrade during the playthrough.
@@I-VisiBomb-II'd argue the Tesla Claw sort of makes the Pyricitor obsolete given that it's about the same weapon only much further range but I get your point.
Sadly I think they just need to end the series now. They've clearly ran out of ideas story wise and they can't really do anything with ratchet and clank plot wise because their character arcs already had a satisfying conclusion in a crack in time.
Okay than they have needed to end the series after Ratchet and Clank 3 there was never a conclusion in their character arcs and the story or the game works perfectly without that.
I would've ended the series with into the nexus, cuz I feel like that was more satisfying than a crack in time in terms of a series ender. Seriously, that game is underrated as hell..
I don't get why they don't just make new 3D platformers, or make new games based in the Ratchet and clank universe. The last 2 Ratchet and clank games have been so meh
Rift Apart is a damn good game, but ever since Into the Nexus, Ratchet and Clank games have one major problem nowadays, THEY'RE WAY TOO SHORT, Ratchet and Clanks 1, 2, 3, TOD, CIT, and Deadlocked took many HOURS AND DAYS to complete, now within 5 hours, the game is over, I miss the length a Ratchet and Clank game used to be.
I’m a big retro gamer fan and one aspect about Rift Apart that I liked was it wasn’t an overly complex game. It got straight to the point and had unbelievable graphics. Even the way robots took damage was impressive to me. What streets of rage 2 was to the beatem genre is what Rift Apart is to the 3rd person shooter/action game genre: they both had an extremely high level of attention to the details, which is why everything felt fun and enjoyable. Not sure what people were expecting from the story. Please play a good RPG like a fire emblem game if you want good writing.
What a cop out. JRPGs tend to have really cliché stories following Japanese tropes instead of American ones. The only few exceptions are games like SMT, and Final Fantasy
It discredits the genre to say another genre is simply better served for delivering such a fundamental aspect of a game. Games like inFAMOUS and even the original PS2 RaC games show that engaging narratives are possible through the medium, and in terms of general action God of War and Far Cry as a series make a master class of how far you can take it. 'RPG' is a genre of gameplay, not of intellectual stimulation. It has high highs and low lows in terms of story, much like any other genre.
Any genre can have good writing or story telling. These last R&C games lack story & Rift Apart feels like a Reboot. They pause Ratchet's story for a new useless character that can do everything Ratchet can & contributes nothing to the main story. Games are more than just graphics. I think because of the colorful & flashy graphics & simplicity of the last games, they were made for a younger audience. More obvious on the Reboot with the annoying talking in game all the time.
Good gameplay, but man writing felt like it was made for 5 year olds. Yeah I get it ratchet and clank appeals to kids, but man so we’re the originals and at least they respected their players and gave us some actual substance
Man I wish the people over at Insomniac saw this video because it's probably the best critique of the franchise yet. You nailed all the flaws these new games have especially when it comes to the writing and world building and this might be the first time I hear someone recognize that the future saga was the beginning of the decline. Those new writers just don't seem to understand how charming the original trilogy was. I just wish this franchise went back to comedy gold, great parodies, fun world building, and character moments that actually feel earned unlike how in Rift Apart everyone needs to be so sad and hate themselves so much, it feels pathetic and boring. The thing that made those games so good in terms of writing was how selfish and non self aware the universe was and while Ratchet was also selfish at times he and Clank were kind of the straight men in a wacky universe.
This game seems to suffer from the same ailment that a lot of modern games suffer from. They look too good. Companies leverage how impressive graphics can get and forget all the other elements of a game.
Outside of something like the enemy variety being compromised due to this I feel like this game in particular didn't suffer too much of that overall when you actually dig deep into it. Now hypothetically if all the planets/locations had half the attention to detail, general fidelity and NPCs they could've been able to focus more on other aspects like content and develop one or two more planets (the game already reuses some assets from time to time anyways).
So happy I found this video essay. I thought I was all alone on this topic, Rift apart being mid RC game at best. This game lack a soul, the drive, the fun. Characters are flat as a rock, Kit having some kind of development or at least a try. Rivet is mirror to Ratchet, her own person is out of the widow. You've said it right, why having two protagonists, when both of them are the same person, only gender bend. That's it. I was so disappointed with this game. It was generic platform shooter looking pretty. Older RC had a story, the humor, the fun. I enjoyed them even with flaws and plot holes in it, my poor Angela, rest in rip, not even mentioning Azimuth. This is...just a game. I did the extra step and before final boss I've collected all the golden bolts so the final boss was no challange at all. I wanted to finish it as soon as possible without thinking about it. I didn't have any expectations, but this game is low at my tier list. Even the music is meh, RC in past had banger song I still listen to this day. Just another generic music in the background, yeah. It lost the spirit. It is targeting casual players who just wants hurry up actions, shooting and pretty colors. It wasn't about that in the past and I am trying to like upcoming RC games, but...I am not. And it's a shame.
I've had pretty much all the same thoughts as those you've expressed in this video. My main gripe with this game is the voice work. Every f***ing enemy is constantly saying their 1-liners over and over and over and over (applies especially if you're on 'hard' mode which turns the enemies into bullet sponges) and the friendly NPCs do it too. Like bro, STFU. I beg you.
It is kinda interesting that a game with literally NPCs overload can have less personality in their world building than a game with 1-2 NPCs per planet (think like OG PS2 series)
Something that could have differentiated Ratchet from Rivet is if Rivet and Clank had a more antagonistic relationship as a call-back to the first game and also to show how far Clank's relationship with Ratchet has come.
@@dojak98 The game has amazing level design, fun gameplay, pleasant characters, atmospheric soundtrack and so on. The graphics made it all even better, but even without it, it's still one of my favorite games at the moment. But everyone has it’s own opinion…
Wow, what a fun ride this video was! Honestly I'm quite shocked, that you have such a small following, considering the high quality entertainment I just enjoyed. This whole video is just a beast: 72 minutes long and still consistently good edited throughout with funny jokes and a cohesive script. That must have cost you so much hours upon hours; I really appreciate that effort! I also love all the stuff you do with your voice. Like when you mentioned your opinion on the other games in the series while downright singing the titles of them (and *very good* at that ^^)! All the switching in tone and voices you do while performing that script makes for a really good show. I will defenitely catch up on your other Ratchet & Clank videos and other stuff -- 'cause you man are awesome!
Not really related to your video but I have to put it somewhere - I've been playing R&C games since 2003, and only last week did I realize Skidd McMarx' name is a "Skid marks" joke
@@CosmicVoid420 amazing soundtracks, actual original storylines, memorable enviroments, none of that janky silly mocap, original level design that wasnt completely reliant on flashy setpieces and graphics that had really great atmospheres and fluid movement systems that still made it feel like ratchet and clank
The writers completely misunderstand both ratchet and clank AND multiverse stories. What if Kit and nefarious' assistant robot were one character, and the redemption arc meant something? What if Rivet was actually grizzled and selfish and took clank hostage? What if we got to see Skid McMarx in the game coming to terms with the fact his other self is seemingly better than him
One of my favorite quotes from Ratchet in Going Commando is when he says: “What! Now even the computers are charging us? That’s it, this galaxy blows. 😂🤣
Them new writers be treating Azimuth like they done treated Angela. Also the dimentionator suddenly works completely differently, maybe because it was made by a zoni and not a Lombax.
I would Think that a Version of Azimuth Should be Alive( I would even have Had Him Live through The Final Fight of A Crack of Time and Get a Redemption Arc).
This was extremely well done, great production quality and overall brought a ton of points where the game falls short. I really liked Rift Apart when I played it, and was extremely happy to just have a new game since the last real one was back in 2009 (Crack in Time), going as far as saying one of the best games in the franchise, but in retrospect I quickly changed that opinion, since as an old fan of the series, there's just a ton of personality missing in Rift Apart, the story being too obvious with its direction towards forced friendship, very linear planets that frankly kill most of the replayablity for me, and the infamous ToD upgrade system for the weapons that make it so that they have no impact in the progression whatsoever... What we've gotten is certainly good, but I feel like this game could have implemented so much from the PS2 trilogy and be a greater, more refined game overall. There's something about those titles, especially R&C 2 and Deadlocked that make me keep going back to them and replay them, I haven't felt that with the Future series or with Rift Apart (lets not even mention the spin-offs).
Nah I agree ratchet and clank had really good chemistry I don’t like how they made ratchet into basically sonic I feel like these games had a magical formula but with the amount of times asked to expand that universe through sequels I feel like it really has been milked dry and that same sorta crude humor/style has been lossed with the pixarfication & polish the game has now I’m sure to old school game devs who at their end of they’re lives who have went from playin pong to now it’s kinda a testament of like look how nice we can make a game look the visuals are absolutely stunning but the story relies too hard now on old tropes feeling like it’s not innovating it’s like the recent South Park episode where they re used man bear pig for the 5th time it’s like that typa of comedic writing side character a half baked towel u can’t say is really the best side character to pride a series on sure they where funny in the moment but to continue to bring them up is kinda even offensive to the old series I really hate multi verse theories that is one of the lamest sci fi tropes ever but this game feels like it has a lotta moments like wow look how far we’ve come yah n they all just kinda pose n look good with new models I hope it gets its story telling down better nothing offensive here and that’s the problem there’s no shock value in this entire game the old games where so chuck full of just hilarious one liners and moments it felt like a fever dream as a kid hearing that stuff it’s so toned down for kids it’s got benjemam button syndrome so bad the older it gets the more for kids it gets the younger it was the more for adults it was
I can see Rivet's tail as just a "soft reboot" thing. It's how you said with Nefarious' reintroduction in All 4 One, where it feels like a cartoon and the continuity isn't as a serious priority anymore. They remixed elements from the 2016 reimagining to maybe tie things in together which might help newer fans not feel lost. They can easily just retcon the female lombaxes not having tails if they're going in that approach.
I agree with you on some points, despite not being a long time fan of the series (only played this, Deadlocked, Size Matters and the reboot). But I must say I thoroughly enjoyed the game despite its flaws. I was amazed by how good it looked (even though my TV is Full HD only) and how much fun I had, since my last "proper" R&C game on console was Deadlocked. My biggest gripes were how many support weapons there were, and how bad the Ryno works in this. It's not even the design and how it functions that's bad (different from the rest, but still cool), rather the damage calculations are off for some reason. They should have made it so everything from the portals dealt max damage in all directions, something like how the Zodiac works but with portals.
I actually disagree at some parts in your review but I do respect your opinion but Rift Apart is actually a good game Insomniac wanted to welcome new fans and old fans to the series and I think they did a great job with that and they did an amazing job showcasing what the PS5 can do with the SSD I mean the visuals, the gameplay, and the graphics is the most beautiful looking game I've ever seen and it's the most beautiful looking game in the entire series. I actually think Rivet is a strong character but you're right about the story and that's because of Sam Maggs caused drama at Insomniac about Rivet not having any breasts and they fired her so they had to get new writers to rewrite the whole script. This game also shows how much Ratchet has developed as a character he went from an jerk to an strong matured hero who is willing to help anyone that needs saving his personality in this game isn't mindless as the remake. The leveling system has always been the same since Going Commando except the raritanium upgrades from Tools Of Destruction. Rift Apart does has some flaws but it's still a great Ratchet and Clank experience I'm really happy to see this series is still going strong to this day. Also Rift Apart is really a sequel to Into the Nexus.
I preordered Rift Apart but never played it since I couldn’t get my hands on a PS5. I did want to play it but left myself no choice but to watch the retrospectives and reviews over the summer since I wanted to know what I was going to get into if I were to play it. Graphics and gameplay look amazing, but I had a feeling the story/writing wouldn’t be the best, which some didn’t like the game for that reason. The original 4 are my favorites and wasn’t super huge on the Future series (considering Ratchet had lost his edge and the animation style became overly cartoonish). Although the Future series does have their advantages (TOD being the most memorable, ACIT being the most compelling story-wise, and ITN being my favorite aside from how short the game itself was), watching your review on Rift Apart actually gave me a better appreciation for the Future series overall. Even if the Future series has some flaws, they’re definitely better than Rift Apart. All in all, keep up the great work with the video game reviews my friend!
I overall liked the game but I had a lot of problems with it. Mainly how it shamelessly recycles all of the series' Future-era tropes while absolutely refusing to honour the franchise's roots, then mixes all of them in with various tropes from Star Wars VII-IX and a ridiculous Marvel multiverse plot resulting in a textbook mid-to-late 2010s-era family sci-fi romp with very little to help itself actually stand out. The game absolutely wants to be a shiny modern action blockbuster and as a result is so cartoonishly bombastic and begging to be liked.
I think it's kinda bizarre that they've never had the idea to have the Wrench level up too, with like twice as many levels as normal considering that you'll be using it in some form for the entire game.
Game Sucks. End of Story. The only thing thats nice is the graphics. I could say everything wrong with this game but I don't feel like typing a 5 page essay, which I am sure most of the "new" fans here won't even take seriously. And even if they did take it seriously, they would just fall back on the old "oh thats just your opinion" argument. And just Flag me as a Hater. Even though I would've gave undeniable Facts of why the game is bad. The Game Sucks. If you're smart enough to figure out why then thumbs up to you.👍 Because not too many people nowadays have that skill.
The game is amazing. It has amazing level design, engaging action scenes, creative weapons, charming characters, decent plot and of course the graphics too. So what’s not to like?
@@gold_gear The story doesn't make sense. Nobody cares about the technical details, the franchise never stood out for its graphics, the gameplay is more of the same, there is nothing new, there is a lot of unnecessary padding to lengthen the duration of the game. The characters are boring, and Ratchet & Clank don't feel like them, they've lost their characterizations.
@@deadlocked5337 Ratchet has grown up and that's why he's different than he used to be. I see it as character development. I have a whole video about it on my channel, so you can check it out. The gameplay is more or less the same, but that's just the RaC formula. If they change it, then it won't be Ratchet and Clank anymore. But even thought it’s almost the same, there are a few improvements like phantom dash or wall running. Also the enemies are more smart, battles are more engaging and so on. Characters are boring? Well, that's subjective, so I can't say you're wrong, but I find them quite interesting and entertaining. Especially Kit with her insecurities, Gary with his friendliness, and the Emperor with his selfishness. It’s a joy for me to rewatch RA cutscenes every time and I consider the plot to be one of the best in the series. It has emotional moments, it has some “deeper” themes and a few good jokes, so I can’t complain. I’m sad that you don’t share the same feeling, but people are just different.
13:50 Even in Sonic Adventure 2, the characters with shared gameplay styles have to find their own upgrades, even if they're the same upgrades. But some of their upgrades were unique. 15:00 I sort of think the tail thing was a light, throwaway retcon. I mean, Ratchet's not even remembering Angela at all. 32:15 Wait, no it wasn't. Torren IV was still a Polaris planet. 43:00 I really hate "skip puzzles" options. I've been playing a lot of challenging games like Crash Bandicoot lately, and they feel refreshing.
I feel the passion in your voice bro ..... i know ...... I wonder what it would have been like for me had i just stopped after Gladiator...... But suffice to say i multi completed every game they made . The new games cannot hold a candle to the OG 4
Tbh rivet is a dei replacement for ratchet there’s no other excuse or explanation this game was made when get woke go broke wasn’t a meme it was real every movie game they just put a chick in it and make her lame and gay
I was wondering about the game since no one has talked about it since launch. It's sad that my assumptions were correct, but you are spot on with every take
You hit the nail on the head maybe rift apart doesnt suck but its ideas an philosophy sucks. Ratchet n clank was the first game i ever loved and ive always wanted it too evolve but insomniac takes baby steps and restarts not learning anything. Going commando perfected the formula for a 2004 ps2 game and insomniac has never tried to meaninfully evolve that formula. Ratchet seems perfect for an rpg style game with open worlds plentifull exploration true weapon custimization and biildcrafting. Imagine exploring an abandoned weapons factory looking for weapon mods or gold bolts cus you got a new gadget in solana and fizwiget calls you up for some corporate espionage so you fly over to bogon for some sidequests maybe stopong by a moon to explore on your way. As ive grown up im sad too see ratchet hasnt grown as well. Rift apart made some improvments the movement dashing hoverbooting feels great but theres not enough game world to really play with your abilities. Rift portals are basicly swingshot orbs put into combat arenas and thats lame its kinda the main selling point of the game. Actual swingshot orbs would be more interesting cus you could attack from multiple angles and have more freedom while swinging maybe even shoot while doin it. The leveling system in ratchet is so pathetic its had some improvments and insomniac keeps scraping the interesting ideas instead of building on em. Guns need a mod system or perk system. Every weapon should have like 20 cool mods some shared and some unuique ones to each gun stuff like different elemental dmg tracking charged up shots alternate firing modes triggered detonations mini bombs ect stuff that changes how you use guns and as you level your gun you will be able to pick 10 of the mods to customize your gun. There would only be one mod for increasing gun stats like ammo or rof so you dont mindlessly spend rareitanium on tiny upgrades you get big chunks of power that you choose Weapon arcetypes could actually be usefull like enemies being weak to certain elements or having the weaker guns carry so much ammo that its a strategy to actually think about your ammo and what dmg your hitting enemies with. Balance is never really mentioned in rnc cus the ryno usually negates all that but ive always played the games like an rpg doin mele only or bomb only playthoughs so it be fun to have some balance and buildcrafting in a future game make the bomb glove have an actual use after you aquire a rocket launcher etc. Mele combat is the same 3 button combo for over 20 years its gotta change. I want heavy and light mele attacks the crouch button and aim would modify these so youd have 6 types of mele attacks and classes of em like razor claws wallopers nether beasts plasma whips scorpion flails double wrench like azimuth rivets hammer, a wrench that throws infinitely and your press a button to teleport it back to hand or a short range tazer or lock on boomerang style wrench etc and those would level up and have mods jus like the guns. Armor has been so boring size matters had the best system and it was meh but insomniac should evolve armor perks. Itd be dope to have abilities tied to armor peices like the tesla barrier or drone device flamethrower gantlets a ice wall slam aoe invisibility increased speed etc. These abilities would use a battery resource and have cooldowns so you can have the overpowered telsa shield but only in short bursts. Itd be able to be modified to explode when its depleted or shock nearby enemies or throw out a 1 way shield you can shoot through. And to make the combat style abilities worth running theyd spawn health and ammo like the flame belch from doom eternal and use less battery. Youd have 4 armor peices so you can mix and match these to fit your playstyle and youd activate em by using the directional arrows while in your quick select. When not in the quick select those arrows change your gadget that you use with l1. You have hoverboots the jetpack and the swingshot available at any time. The jetpack would use battery so you cant fly forever and it and the swingshot would work in combat. Swingshot would work kinda like the meathook from doom pulling yourself towards enemies and it would work kinda like spidermans webs letting ya swing from walls. Speedrunning would be so fun by comboing hoverboots into swingshoting off some wall to build speed and regular gamelpay exploration would be more engaging Finally i think a true class system would work in rnc. Rivet and ratchet could have slightly different movesets and a skill tree that really differentiates em. Rivet is a scoudrel and rebel so shed be like a rouge assassin type class. She benefits from precision guns and close range stuff while ratchet has gadgebot n elemental buffs. She has kit who doesnt have a helipack but has thruster pack so she can fly but ratchet has slightly better aial menuverability while rivet has a better phantom dash. Ratchet would be the warlock engineer type class with clank having mastery of technology and zoni powers youd be a more support class summoning gadgebots or zoni to buff yourself. And the 3rd class would be a tank commando style like azimuth. They dont have a robot jetpack but have enhanced hoverboots and excell in mele combat and explosions.
Just binge watched a few of your videos and was shocked at both the high production quality and thoughtful analysis. This channel deserves more views (especially from Sony’s product development team). Subbed!
@@dribbler456pls8 most of the games aren’t really popular some time after release, so it’s normal. But people are still talking about RA, you just need to follow those who are interested in it:)
That happens with every game. People generally talk about the current new game for a few weeks than move on to the next new game. If people were talking about this for a full month that would be longer than most get. Horizon only got like 2 weeks of being in the spotlight. Same with Halo or Forza, same with third party titles. just so I’m not bashing only Sony games. Just the way it is in the market these days or with people in general as they move on from topic to topic faster than ever. I still see Rift Apart come up when people talk about PS5 games overall, and I thought I’d hate it as I don’t usually go for these games but ended up liking it a lot. Just replayed it for the third time a couple weeks ago actually.
It is fun to see that this video exists, this genuinely does feel like something TheGamingBritShow would make if he had anymore interest in the series for where it's going. But yeah; a lot of what you say is all pretty fair on the whole, especially on the Gameplay. Ratchet and Rivet being the same thing in terms of narrative is one thing, but then you get to their Gameplay and it's also the same thing. It makes me wish they did go down the route they were originally going for where the two would have specific abilities that one or the other don't, that way it would also justify the fact that you can't pick whoever you want in any planet, only reason we don't get that is cause play testers just found it annoying for some reason. And in terms of narrative; honestly it makes me feel more than anything that this is setting us up for the true conclusion to Ratchet & Clank, like it wouldn't make sense to introduce two new characters you play as without some purpose behind it. Combine that with the fact that we now know they're going to the Lombax dimension and yeah, I can't help but feel like they must know of how long the series has lasted for, I honestly hope I'm right at this point and that the next game marks the end for the classic duo and instead a beginning to something new.
Hi! I've been send here by one of my viewers and oh boi, I am soooo glad I keep on finding more and more poeple who agrees with me that this game is BAD and Rivet SUCKS. I made already 3 videos about it (one about how the multiversum and Lombaxes are broken, one about the R&C girls where I touched upon Angela p[roblem and possible solution, and one about just how bad Rivet is) so I you'd like to check out what I think feel freee to watch some :D . Anyway. Unlike you I'm a huge Future Saga fan, I preffer it over the PS2 games, but I do understand why some people preffer the classics. The biggest problem with RA is that this game NEVER SHUTS UP and not only when it comes to character's dialogue - IT TELLS BUT NOT SHOWS. Not to mention how CONVINIENT every single part of the plot is and makes no sense when you think about it for more than 5 seconds. I don't think that Rivet is trans, I think that they gave her the puffy tail to be the indication of sexual dimorphisism in Lombaxes and if they'd want to keep the line about female lombaxes not having one cannon and make her trans she'd have the same type of tail as Ratchet, since they are just skins of each other. They show such disregard for any type of continuity or lore of the world in this game that I truuuuuly doubt they would use such an obsure line to base one of the fundaments of their new shiny mascot on. I just think she's a different breed. Or as in my video, just make Angela half-lombax and all problems solved. But honestly I don't think anyone cared enough. And noone cares now. The creators said openly that they wanted to pander to furries with her look so, that was probably the main driving force in giving her that puffy, fox/raccoon like tail. Furries love those. I completly connect with your words about the series beeing able to do better and that it SHOULD. And yet there are poeple who dare to come to my or any other comment section and praise RA for it's care and thought and say that yeah, disregard the flaws because THERE IS SOOO MUCH HEART! And it hurts the most. That poeple really fall for that corporate lie of "We care! We give references and sad music with face closeups, so we care!"
Yep. Just finished this and I think I can sum it up even better: this game had no soul. I was blown away at the beginning but over it by around the 1/2 mark I just wanted to finish it because I paid for it. I’ll never play another Ratchet and Clank game after this one. I never want to hear that dumb cliche, Kit voice ever again. This IP had been lobotomised. There is also game breaking bugs that still exist after all this time. I got stuck in one of the pocket universes and lost progress when I had to reload. This game really felt rushed. I’m sure the reason you can skip puzzles is they didn’t have time to create hints. The dash can let you go through barriers…an entire concept created just so they could keep you out of one area until they were ready to let you in. What was the point of the underwater area? Something feels planned, but cut for time. Portals should have introduced traversal puzzles but they turned into fancy hook shot points. This felt like there was a bigger game planned, but Sony demanded that it be a release title.
So much love and care was put into the animation, level design and other nice little details. The overall gameplay is smooth and polished and each level stands out and adds something new. I’m sorry but with all of this, how dare you say that it has no soul? Also, yes, the story has a lot of cliché, but I have nothing against it if it's done right, and this game did it right in my opinion. A lot of characters have their inner conflicts and insecurities and it’s a pleasure to see their interactions with each other. But that’s quite subjective.
@@gold_gear A good example of the writing in this game is when the fixer wants to fucking destroy a planet because he's depressed and fed up with the world and Clank just be like "yo I get ya buddy" and the fixer is like omggg I'm understood I'm not gonna destroy the planet. Ridiculous flat and insulting.
Grifrt Apart I think the controller disconnect is a modern PlayStation hardware issue. It happens to me on PS4 very frequently, and i habe no idea why it happens.
The biggest problem with rift apart's story is that, even the few times it tries to have some moments of character developement and emotional moments, It is basically instantenuos. A character is dealing with self doubt and/or other stuff? Just have another one say one single inspirational line and is all fixed. And when it is not like that, it happens off screen, like with kit at end of the game; after Rivet has told them to fuck of, kit is never seen again untill she joins the fight deus ex machina style in the final fight, without showing a single scene showing her actually growing as a character, with the game basically implying that whatever character development she may have gone through to do the things she does at the end, it all happned off screen. THANKS GAME, I TOTALLY DIDN'T WANT TO SEE IT.
The characters are ass. We’re now waiting till 2029 just to return to having to deal with boring characters like rivet, kit and ESG quark replacing our original gun boys.
I'm confused by the fact Clank loses an arm (and loses the use of his legs) and the moral of the junk planet is that he should just be okay with that, when rivet has her own cyber arm and can easily fix it, and the Nanotech exists. It's like a badly written children's book made to cheer up amputees.
Rift Apart was ok imo but I was shocked to find that you could Platinum the game on the first playthrough. There was zero need to go into NG+ unless you didn't complete all the trophies the first time around. I wish it would've needed more effort. Like finishing NG+
Good Video. You brought up some good points. I often see them as negative as you but they are still fair points. I'd Like to See Insomniac improve in them.
The reason the game doesnt feel like new rachet game completely is they took crash 4 formula and their own version of the storyline so they can make the best game with used ideas about dimensions which became a new idea to make plattform games in that style so kao the kangaroo did it as well. The funny thing there are lines that used in the cutscene where both dimensional selves meet dimensional neferious and asking how many times you beat this guy which explains why crash 4 plots took the platforming into another level and every popular action platforming franchises used their new formula to make their own games
Rift Apart comes across like it was written by some college kid with high aspirations and a handful of writing class theory, but not enough experience to understand what really makes a story hit home. Plus any proper writer would know that it doesn't make sense anymore being this hung up on the lombaxes. At least in Tools of Destruction it had the novelty of being new. It's painfully obvious that they're only reusing the lombax story because they simply couldn't come up with anything else. Rift Apart's ending pretty much confirms that next game is all about the lombax dimension, and personally I find that idea incredibly dull. I want to explore the galaxy, finding new strange worlds and creatures along the way. Not meet a bunch of "quirky" lombax OC's.
@@deadlocked5337 the ps2 games (especially deadlocked) deffo were more edgy and aimed at young teens rather than the more current entries in the series including this one. I have played rift apart and did like it but insomniac have really downgraded the characters and “Disneyfied” them to appeal to a younger/wider fan base which is a shame :/
I think that this game has a decent plot. It’s simple, but it doesn’t need to be extra complicated. There are some charming characters, they have some development, there are jokes and it all works pretty well. But again that’s just my opinion. And I think that they should continue this story with Lombaxes. Ratchet should finally find them:)
My thing is they used things from the future saga but ratchet acts like the whole Azimuth situation didn't happen and rivet is the first lombax ever (excluding Angela) after replaying all the ps2 games and CiT its like the writers don't have the proper characterization for the pair besides heroes

There was no moment of alienation where Ratchet and Clank felt as though they were moreso being sidelined as an excuse to expand on these new characters as the titles knew that the reason we picked up and played the damn games was because it was called ‘Ratchet & Clank’ and not something else, whereas here it might as well be an entirely separate IP, yet another reboot, or just Rivet & Kit…
Oof… it’s such a damn shame TBH, but yeah, I much prefer the Future Saga. It at least attempts to retain the heart of Ratchet & Clank and take risks with their newer stories as an attempt to genuinely expand on the duo and try something new. It wasn’t perfect, I still much prefer the PS2 titles, but it was honestly leagues better than Rift Apart… personally, I’d rank the games by putting the PS2 ones first, the Future games, Rift Apart, and then the spin-offs and the reboot.
hello there..
Insomniac humor died with Sunset Overdrive... i wish it had a sequel is a really underrated game.
@@deadlocked5337resistance 3 is easily their best game ever
i miss a lot of stuff that were great in the original trilogy, but one thing i miss that didn't accure to me until now is how almost all NPC's absolutely hated you and only wanted to interact with you in order to gain something from you (usually bolts for an overpriced item). you used to be a literall nobody that saved the galaxy all the time, which was much more relatable than being a hero that saves the galaxy all the time from the get-go.
And yet there is no ACTUAL development for anyone but Kit in the entire game. They start of the same as they all end up.
The psp games were so good story wise
@@spacesheep4015 i agree, ratchet looked good tho, better than his 2016 looks
I'd like to add that none of the puzzle sections are remotely interesting or challenging. There was potential for some cool portal puzzles.
Please read the bio of rivet in the game.
They don't have the balls to go deeper into the jadedness with her so she's in that dubious spot of just riding the popularity of being a female lombax.
the one plot element that still pisses me off is that clank never get uncrippled despite there being SO MANY chances to do so
Totally, there was no need for Clank to stay crippled as his friends are literally mechanics, but nah he's just like "actually I'm starting to like my new look!", as if being disabled was like a fashion choice. Sure Rivet has a cool robot arm, but she can never restore her real biological arm. An actual permanent loss, where as Clank is just pretending to have lost something. Or rather, the writers are. I hope the next game just forgets this subplot.

It's good to be open to criticism, especially when it's about things one likes.
@@vani-lla for sure, I agree. As long as the criticism is constructive and thoughtful.

Plus this is all coming from someone who only played deadlocked and tools of destruction so it says a lot.
deadlocked was pretty damn good. IMO the first 2 were masterpieces. Going commando was my favorite. UYA was good too@@larry8712
@@larry8712eh I can kinda excuse that since it was just an attempt by the devs to shift the focus on other’s characters besides the duo since most of the conflict between them is wrapped up. It just falls flat because of how uninteresting rivet is
@@yxrackman2397 Its a good idea but not very well executed...
Yup, they straight up neutered him 😔
I didn't like Rivet from the moment she appeared.
Say what you want, but 10 year old me had a blast with Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank on the PSP. Still my favourites because of nostalgia
Facts and the story was a masterpiece! For both but I think size matters had something more but agent clank had more content
" nostalgia" if your 20
I agree, people hate on it too much. For a PSP game it’s actually very impressive and fun

The only good thing about Rift Apart was the graphics, but what do you expect? each generation will get better and better graphics wise.
There is also amazing gameplay, great level design, fun characters…but that’s just my opinion.
@@gold_gear yeah but thats it all what we have in older games but better. And fun characters in a bad way.
@@gold_gear Bosses are all garbage. Big enemy with lots of health and only 2-3 boring attacks.
with the reeboot retconning, I think it was confirmed that the movie (and therefore the game) is an in universe thing so the parade would use the plots of the movie (in universe) to convey easier as no-one would really know the fine details of rac 1 apart from ratchet & clank
True
It's not good or bad. It's just a gimmick system.
@@michaeldunlap1032 Nexus is my favorite ps3 Ratchet game i think, it's only downside is it's length and thats it realy
I sold my his game right after I beat it, I had fun but it was so incredibly easy even on hard. It looked cool?
There is no challenge or depth. It's pretty and flashy and that's it.
For me Nexus, Reboot and Rift Apart have the badest ratchet designs. I cant enjoy these game much because of it.
If you want good writing play Disco Elysium
14:00 you should ask the early game testers for this one.
100 % agree
I've also been playing since 2002, this game was soulless , terrible arena, and boring guns
Good gameplay, but man writing felt like it was made for 5 year olds. Yeah I get it ratchet and clank appeals to kids, but man so we’re the originals and at least they respected their players and gave us some actual substance
I get the impression Rivet was just tacked on at some point.

They don’t care lmao
Also, love the song at the end. An ACIT man of culture, I see :D
Something that could have differentiated Ratchet from Rivet is if Rivet and Clank had a more antagonistic relationship as a call-back to the first game and also to show how far Clank's relationship with Ratchet has come.
It's impossible to compliment this game without saying *graphics* amd that's sad
Well…the gameplay is fun, guns are creative, characters are charming, level design is amazing and so on. Actually a lot of things to praise here.

This game kinda feels like an unholy fusion of tools of destruction and a crack in time except without the things that made those games work.
what made those games work?
@@CosmicVoid420 amazing soundtracks, actual original storylines, memorable enviroments, none of that janky silly mocap, original level design that wasnt completely reliant on flashy setpieces and graphics that had really great atmospheres and fluid movement systems that still made it feel like ratchet and clank
At 15:00 Rivet is From a Different Dimension. She isn't from Ratchet's Dimension.
The writers completely misunderstand both ratchet and clank AND multiverse stories. What if Kit and nefarious' assistant robot were one character, and the redemption arc meant something? What if Rivet was actually grizzled and selfish and took clank hostage? What if we got to see Skid McMarx in the game coming to terms with the fact his other self is seemingly better than him
That's what happens when people that didn't make the originals are now in charge
This is an excellently crafted video and does a very good job of articulating what other people (myself included) feel. Great job 👏

Nah I agree ratchet and clank had really good chemistry I don’t like how they made ratchet into basically sonic I feel like these games had a magical formula but with the amount of times asked to expand that universe through sequels I feel like it really has been milked dry and that same sorta crude humor/style has been lossed with the pixarfication & polish the game has now I’m sure to old school game devs who at their end of they’re lives who have went from playin pong to now it’s kinda a testament of like look how nice we can make a game look the visuals are absolutely stunning but the story relies too hard now on old tropes feeling like it’s not innovating it’s like the recent South Park episode where they re used man bear pig for the 5th time it’s like that typa of comedic writing side character a half baked towel u can’t say is really the best side character to pride a series on sure they where funny in the moment but to continue to bring them up is kinda even offensive to the old series I really hate multi verse theories that is one of the lamest sci fi tropes ever but this game feels like it has a lotta moments like wow look how far we’ve come yah n they all just kinda pose n look good with new models I hope it gets its story telling down better nothing offensive here and that’s the problem there’s no shock value in this entire game the old games where so chuck full of just hilarious one liners and moments it felt like a fever dream as a kid hearing that stuff it’s so toned down for kids it’s got benjemam button syndrome so bad the older it gets the more for kids it gets the younger it was the more for adults it was
What you said about gold bolts and OPTIONAL is spot on, its also an old fan perspective which we both are
You are a genius of writing. I felt like the game lacked spice, but Clank getting lasered would have been epicly spicy.
For real, really makes me wonder whats happenwd in the writing department
Also Rift Apart is really a sequel to Into the Nexus.
after re-watching this, I just noticed clank is able to extend his legs for no reason when jumping out the ship onto ratchet or rivet's back
Thx for uploading I haven’t watched the whole thing yet but I know it’ll be great.
The rift tethers are literally just slingshot but less fun
"A game that was anti-corporate now the most corporate thing I've ever seen."
That's the perfect description of the Future series.
I like how the Ryno 8 is basically the Harbinger (best super weapon in the series btw) but sadly what it adopts in style it missed in functionality.
Lawrence should be the main villain and force Neferious to be his servant
I think it's kinda bizarre that they've never had the idea to have the Wrench level up too, with like twice as many levels as normal considering that you'll be using it in some form for the entire game.
43:25 Ha ha ha! You got me pretty good there!
Also, I can't help but think of UP:
'SQUIRREL!'

Speedrunning would be so fun by comboing hoverboots into swingshoting off some wall to build speed and regular gamelpay exploration would be more engaging
Finally i think a true class system would work in rnc.
Sounds like you want Ratchet & Clank: Borderlands
First game I've played of the series on pc, because I've never had a PlayStation. And now I'm hooked.
Excellent Video. Very well put together ideas and commentary.
Just binge watched a few of your videos and was shocked at both the high production quality and thoughtful analysis.
This channel deserves more views (especially from Sony’s product development team). Subbed!
14:50 - Ah, so that's where the meme came from!
Hm, I didn't even know this game had a theme.
I like how everyone just forgot this game existed after a month.
Everyone? I’m still playing it:)
@@gold_gear well your a minority cause google trends says different
@@dribbler456pls8 most of the games aren’t really popular some time after release, so it’s normal. But people are still talking about RA, you just need to follow those who are interested in it:)
@@gold_gear like who exactly?
I think male Lombaxes don't have a tail in River's dimension, in contrast to Ratchet's (it makes sense somehow...)
I made already 3 videos about it (one about how the multiversum and Lombaxes are broken, one about the R&C girls where I touched upon Angela p[roblem and possible solution, and one about just how bad Rivet is) so I you'd like to check out what I think feel freee to watch some :D
.
Please keep posting, we love it!!!
@@gold_gearu r delusional af sad
@@gold_gear A good example of the writing in this game is when the fixer wants to fucking destroy a planet because he's depressed and fed up with the world and Clank just be like "yo I get ya buddy" and the fixer is like omggg I'm understood I'm not gonna destroy the planet.
Ridiculous flat and insulting.
@@beri4138the writing has been awful for ages now
Also, given the PSASBR reference at 4:41, would love to hear your thoughts on how that game turned out.
As I said (with all due respect)
Grifrt Apart
I think the controller disconnect is a modern PlayStation hardware issue.
It happens to me on PS4 very frequently, and i habe no idea why it happens.
the subtitle "rift apart" was apparently supposed to be a play on couples drifting apart
51:35 What's that music, it's so catchy. :)
Dimentionater sounds like a weapon Dr. Doofenshmirtz would build. 😂
Rift apart was a fun experience, but I'd sooner replay deadlocked or 1-3
The characters are ass.
I've watched so many Rift Apart deep dives, and we as fans seem to think alike. I hope Insomniac MAYBE listens to us. But I'm not hopeful.
This franchise deserves a Reboot for a more mature audience.
@@eccohpeach6961 yeah and thats what happened with all older games, movies or series. All got easier, friendlier, childish. Or what you say disneyfied.
My thing is they used things from the future saga but ratchet acts like the whole Azimuth situation didn't happen and rivet is the first lombax ever (excluding Angela) after replaying all the ps2 games and CiT its like the writers don't have the proper characterization for the pair besides heroes
