Hi B, unfortunately CCM only makes Cat Security for a few vehicles and none of them are from Lexus. We're assessing options for CR-Vs and Accords based on universal parts, so once we complete our testing and find a solution we feel confident recommending, we'll cover it in a video.
Catalytic converter pipe out of a super hard and thick material like Titanium, then paint it to look like a normal one. That way when they try, their saw gets broken. Now you’ve put them out of business for a bit until they get a new saw.
Hi W B, thanks for sharing. We agree with your assessment. Value of the cat aside, the high ground clearance of the vehicle definitely merits concern. Between our immediate and extended family, there are a number of CR-Vs and they pose the same risk. At the price point for these shields, it's definitely worth it for more than just the Prius. In addition to CR-V's, we've had Accords and a number of other models come into the shop with missing cats. Keep in mind, as a shop, we only work on Honda, Acura and Toyota, so our examples are naturally limited to those makes. We just wish Cat Security was available for more models.
Wouldn't a simple sleeve around the exhaust pipe prevent theft? If you put a loose-fitting sleeve around a pipe, it makes it impossible to cut because the sleeve turns. That could even be a split sleeve that is quickly installed with a large plyers type tool.
Hi David, thank you for saying so. Your comment made our day. It can be hard to know for sure how our videos are being received, so we really appreciate you taking the time to let us know that you found the video helpful.
I know it's illegal but if there was a way to shield the cat in a way to maim or at least mark up a thief. Like spill a ton of paint or sticky pepper powder or gel.
Car alarm should have if you jack up car move from position if you jack it up car like I'm on even from position I moved alarm goes off. With different sound
Hi Stuart, an alarm is an option, but aftermarket car alarms come with their own complications and alarms in general tend to get ignored fairly quickly. It's possible the thieves would stop mid cut if one went off, but given the speed at which they can complete the cuts, they are likely to finish the job. Overall, a physical barrier is the best deterrent, whether it's Cat Security or some other solution. Keep in mind, no solution will outright prevent a cat from getting stolen. The best a person can do is make it clear to right off the bat that their vehicle is not an easy target.
@@munozauto6220 If someone really wanted your car, they could always just hook it (tow truck) and go. So yeah, there's no preventing all theft. Even if you were to say, pull the battery fuse every time you left your car somewhere (would really stump a thief who wants to drive it away but that's not going to do shit against a tow truck). Same goes for the shield like you said. If for whatever reason they really want your cat (say it's an enemy who wants to vandalize your car and make it look like a theft), they can, but this will prevent most crimes of easy opportunity.
Hi Alan, the shields are sold based on the year and model of the vehicle. In the case of the Element, there is only one version, which is designed to fit all years the Element was produced. Only the Prius and Tacoma have multiple options.
Hi Alan, the shields we recommend are called Cat Security and are produced by Cap City Muffler. The shields for the Tacoma are similar to the model seen in our "Installing Cat Security™ on a Prius" video. By contrast, the Cat Security featured in this video is for the Element and is built more like a cage than a shield, since the cat is fully exposed on that vehicle.
Hi D, thanks for checking out the video and considering it elaborate. We don't manufacture any products or sell anything online, so although part of this video could be considered a review, it's not really an advertisement. We're a family run auto shop with a focus on continued education. We've had a number of customers over the years get their catalytic converters stolen, so we've been on the lookout for a good solution for awhile now. After weighing all the pros and cons of Cat Security against the other solutions on the market, Cat Security is simply the best option we can recommend our customers. That said, we are neither involved in the manufacture nor distribution of the product. Our intention is to provide relevant information to the viewer in easy to digest videos, drawn from the knowledge we've gained over decades of training and first hand experience. The shop motto is "Training Today for Tomorrow's Cars", so our knowledge base has continued to grow and evolve since the shop opened in1980. We are a registered installer of Cat Security, but we're not a distributor. If a viewer reaches out and they live in our area, we can install a Cat Security on their car. However, for anybody not local, we'd direct them to manufacturer's website so they could locate a vendor in their area, but we wouldn't receive any form of compensation for doing so. If you'd like to find out more about the shop, please feel free to check out our Facebook page at Facebook.com/MunozAutoRepairSB.
You have reminded me that the thieves would cut at the spots with the thinnest metal. I'm thinking if I could simply have those weakest points wrapped up with layers of some kinds of flexible metal to slow them down or even deterred them from choosing my cat.. . By the way, my English is not good but I understand you perfectly. Wondering why some viewers said that they couldn't understand you.. .
Hi Dan, DJ wasn't alone when this video was recorded. All the videos on this channel are recorded and edited by me (DJ's brother). We don't live together and vaccines weren't available yet at the time of recording. Also, I tend to use a wide angle lens, so I'm standing a lot closer with the camera than it may appear. Best, Peter
Yeah, the whole mask thing is ridiculous. I was hoping there would be some new information, was very disappointed. Same information that’s on a hundred other channels showing the same vehicle specific product. 👎
The sensor right next to the catalytic converter is not a c o sensor it's a heat sensor and if you covered up and don't cool the catalytic converter correctly it'll make the engine start burning Rich too much fuel get a check engine light and burn a lot of gas so beware just put a piece of rebar follow the pipe and weld it on that's enough to keep the the use from wanting to cut through their they don't want to be another 5 minutes trying to cut a 3/8 rebar
yeah i'm sure every grandma has a welder. . . glad you have that sort of solution . . . . others do not..and if you have to take it to a shop to do this, you may as well buy a nicer looking cage same price

Will they work on V6 lexus rx

Thanks for the tips, and its great to see you staying safe while working 😷
Run Hardfacing weld beads down the pipe. It will dull the blade confusing the snot out of them when they can't cut through.
Unless they use an angle grinder instead of a sawzall. Or even an expensive hardened blade for the sawzall.
Cutting wheel does not care about hard surface

Prius, Honda Element, and pickup trucks/ SUV are the highest in demand.
Just got mine today for my 21 Tacoma. The Cats may not be as valuable as e Prius, but for the price it's good insurance.

Why are you talking to a camera with a mask on?
Why are you worried about it?
Thank you for providing a good protection product to help people from having their converters stolen.
Great presentation! 👍
