Thank you so much for watching friends. See you all again soon. - Навчання та стиль
You make such pretty socks. I am looking forward to your DK pattern (as they look so comfy!l
Thank you so much!!
"Consume" is the right word when talking about books. They are a feast for the eyes afterall.
I couldn't agree more!!!! An absolute feast!!!!!!!
Thank you so much for your piece about enjoying your knitting and not being in the race to catch up on others who are knitting so many pairs of socks faster. I am a slow knitter, but I do enjoy knitting socks, but I also have a life outside of knitting socks. Just for instance, I plan to join in the KAL, but I am working on a birthday gift for my brother in counted cross stitch that I plan to finish before I start the KAL. His birthday is March 18th and so I will begin once I have completed his gift. Thank you for not making this a challenge or a race to see who can do the most. I love sock knitting, books and your podcasts!!!! This will be so much fun!
There are so many of us who knit slower. There is space for all of us. Especially on this page!
Wow! Denise, I really enjoyed your bubbly personality and chat about books and sock ❤😊knitting. Nerds R us! Surely, I must be looking at videos of a sock knitter/book lover influencer.
Kristen Hannah is one of my favorite authors! Great choices in the book and colorway.
That yarn matches the book cover perfectly. If I’m not watching podcasts, then I’m listening to audiobooks while I knit.
I share your love of historical fiction. A couple of my favorites are The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows, and Moloka'i by Alan Brennert. Two stories of such resiliency. The back story of the authors of Potato Peel Pie is an added bonus of love.
On a different note. Your method of weaving in ends as you go - pure genius. An absolute game changer. Thank you for sharing.
I love solid Opal yarns for knitting color work socks. The stitch definition for that is incredible.
I totally agree!
Thank you so much, always enjoy your content and I often quote your saying”comparison is the thief of joy” how true. See you soon.
I need to remember your comment “comparison is the thief of joy”, love your videos, you’re so full of joy! ❤
That yarn set is the perfect pairing to The Women. I am lucky enough to be a bookseller and am obsessed with sock knitting so this KAL is my perfect pairing and I was lucky enough to read The Women a few months ago and I loved it. I really hope you do too!
The Women is a wonderful book. I hope you enjoy reading it.
Your pretty pinks scrappy socks are gorgeous!!
Love your scrappy socks. I use Opal a lot for my everyday socks, because it is a work horse yarn and I am hard on my socks. I have taken knitting friends to trips to Germany and we visited the factory. A family business and so great! Love the “Easypeasyscrappysockskal” too and am participating the second year and love the scrappy socks I made last year and this year.
Can't wait for the helical tutorial! Love your pink scrappy socks, I have a pair too! I use Purple Circle Yarn Co (you introduced me to Purple Circle in a previous podcast). I also use Soxploration, shadow wrap heels, and you taught me how to knit in my ends in your tutorial. What a game changer, both with scrappy socks and with contrast heels, toes and cuffs! Thank you!!
Hi Denise. Just thought I would mention that I just finished listening to "The Women". So good!! It's gritty, graphic and raw in places but an excellent listen (or read). I hope you enjoy it. 😊
I wish I could read the book The Women again for the first time. I loved the book beginning to end. It brought back so many memories from my teen years, a friend who was an Army Nurse and my own feelings of being a new nurse many years ago. Hope you love the book!📕 🧶 🧦
I’m excited for this KAL. And I was so happy to hear you talk about how we compare ourselves to others. I am so guilty of this and end up feeling so inferior. I’m really trying to just focus on what I’m able to accomplish based on my life. You’re the best!!!💕❤️
Lovely video. I am looking forward to your DK socks. I have my book downloaded and my yarn - now just to start. i am reading "The Frozen River" by Ariel Lawhorn and knitting vanilla socks. I am very new to socks.
Like you, I too love historical fiction. Being that you love World War II era, you must read "The Secrets we Left Behind" by Soraya M. Lane. I read it over the summer and WOW!!! Another extremely good one is by Kristin Hanna, "The Nightingale". It was so moving!!!!!
Now to hopefully start my socks . . Happy knitting everyone!
You are a Gem and inspire me so much xx You inspired me to finally download audible and have started with the little Wartime library historical fiction is my favourite too.
Big ❤ for those helical socks!
I spent a couple of hours yesterday prepping for casting on today - including finishing up a fingering weight sweater for my hubby.
Since I've never put info on Ravelry, other than buy now, I'll first put data here while i figure everything out. Pattern will be Hermione's Everyday Socks by Erica Lueder. The Harry Potter series got my daughter into reading/devouring books. Forever grateful to Santa who gifted her the series. Yarn is some random cakes wound up goodness knows when - cannot find the ball band!?! Reds, pinks, and whites. Will be trying out my new Kollage Square 2.25mm circulars TAT. Book is in progress - BIP - Sovereign by CJ Sansom kindly recommended by Tayler @Wool, Needles, Hands. Third novel in a series based in England during the life of King Henry VIII.
Oh my, that's a long comment. Many thanks for combining your 2 passions in the KAL.
I have been an avid reader for 60 years. Thank you, Nancy Drew. I am currently listening to two different books, and am reading one on my Kindle. That's normal for me. So-consume fits. I have a pair of socks (or two or three) that I want to finish. So, finishing a baby gift and then I am off! Are you sure we aren't sisters? I, too, love historical fiction. I especially love pre WW2-to Viet Nam ere. Long list of favorite books.
I know your feeling about your helical socks. I, too, am doing my first helical socks. Mine are dark grey and light blue and have just started sock 2. I also 'read' while knitting and at present am reading a book by Victoria Pernam about the women who took on the place of the men on farm work during WW2. This is set in Australia. So it seems like we have a lot in common. Very strange to find someone so like minded. Thank you for your channel.
Books and knitting ❤ awesome, and I have decided to knit at least one pair of socks per month. I live in the north of Sweden so more months then not, I need cozy socks
Omg , I’m nearly through the book on audible and have cast on my socks today , I’m loving it.
Really enjoyed the pod cast. Looking forward to the helical sock tutorial/pattern (yours look fabulous). Just joined the KAL looking forward to seeing everyone's progress on socks and getting some ideas on books. Love to read and knit so this was great to find.
I'm so glad you showed up on my feed! Book and knitting, yes, please 🙏. I've liked and subscribed and am totally here for it. Yes, “ comparison is the thief of joy.” I have to keep remembering that. Happy knitting 💚🧶💚
Thank you so much for subscribing and following. I'm very happy you're here!!!
I just finished The Women, absolutely great read!!! I lived though the Vietnam erra, so true.
I am listening to The Shift currently, and recently finished the first of the series - Wool. Looking forward to participating in this knit-along.
New viewer, love your books and sock knitting two of my favorites, too. I've been thinking about Kristin Hannah's book The Women, Just finished her book On Mystic Lake, very good. I also read lots of WW2 historical fiction.
I so love this KAL idea!!
I'm in London now for the weekend, finished my book on the journey here. So today I'm going to a yarnstore here and pick out yarn for this KAL.
Not sure yet if the colourway will pick out my next read or if I will choose a colourway based on the books I already have on my tbr list 😂
I'm also a very slow knitter and I love how you pointed out how much the knitting progress matters. As I love it, but sometimes get a bit frustrated with myself for not finishing projects as quickly
Oh what a great podcast as always thank you 🧶☕️
Glad you enjoyed it!
I love your socks, especially the scrappy socks. I’m getting close to the toe on the 2nd of a pair of socks, I may knit a pair of worsted weight socks. The Women, sounds like a great book, I’m from close to that era, I’ve read Kristin Hannah before, so it sounds very interesting. The thought of snipping the yarn on a sock to make a heel is fear inducing for me. I have one sock I’ve knit a short leg for and I want to try Cat Bordhi’s Sweet Tomato Heel. I will let you know how that works for me.
Hello from Swansea, Illinois.
Matching the color of the cover is a good direction if you haven’t read the book yet
I love that "reading books is like watching paint dry". Sometimes it's like that for me but it depends on the book. So Shogun reads slow but when I started over with listening and it's going so smoothly! 🤣
Love that you're real. You show that life interrupts our knitting: telephone calls, children, etc, its all good. I love also that you are not concerned about speed, you just want to enjoy the knitting and reading/listening process. ❤
Excited to participate! Getting my book and yarn ready.
Thank you for the comment about not comparing yourself to others and enjoying the knitting process!!
Your yarn is amazing and matches your book perfectly! I am also adding the book to my list.
Oh thank you!
Your socks are gorgeous - as usual! 💚
I really appreciate what you said about not comparing ourselves to others. I’ve been watching all the “What I knit in 2023” videos and enjoying them immensely, even though everything I knit in 2023 was 4 pairs of socks. In a year full of complex life changes, those slow-knit socks were my meditation! Looking forward to the KAL and to trying helical knitting 🥰
A friend just recommended the book The Women by Kristin Hannah too. I am afraid I am copying you again. I am about to finish the book The Little War Library and I love it. My first pair of helical knit socks is finished too. I figured it out just with what you showed and I really enjoyed it. I used my regular slip stitch heel flap and gusset heel. Thanks again for hosting the knit along and all the inspiration.
Feel free to copy away!!!!! I take it as as sign that you're enjoying what i share!! I'm so happy to hear that you loved The Little Wartime Library and the helical socks!!!! Awesome!!!! Thanks for being here!!!
I ordered my stitch markers today! They are awesome! Your socks are beautiful!
Thank you so so much!!!
I definitely see the connection between your socks and the Silo series. That would be a cool inspiration for a self striping set! I can imagine the different levels and the different colors…anyway, lovely episode, as always! ❤❤❤
Your grey socks with the pinstripe are gorgeous. The motivation marker for the KAL is awesome. I always do my afterthought heel before fully finishing the sock too. Not for the same reason but to be able to fit the sock and much easier with the heel in place.
Thank you Denise. I'm so excited to finish listening to my Audible books and knotting my wonderful socks. Currently, I am listening to Amanda Lee's : Perilous Potions, Freaky Wedding and My Big Fat Witch Wedding. She is snarky and the characters are wonderfully funny. I love reading her when I need to escape and have some supernatural fun and laughs. Aunt Tilly is my favorite character of all time. I'm one sock down and one to go. I'm in my happy place!!!!!
Your helical socks turned out beautiful as well as your dk. Love dk weight socks. Scrappy socks are incredible and yours fit the bill perfectly. Gorgeous.
I made my Mom a pair of red socks for Christmas (her favorite color). It was the most reasonable priced yarn that came in a true solid red. I knew a lot of people like Opal and figured it would be good for her socks. It is a good workhorse type yarn. At first I didn't like the feel but once I had finished and blocked it I thought it is reasonably soft for this type of yarn. It will feel good on the feet. Love your scrappy socks!
Wonderful! As usual. Thank you!
I found a great sock yarn I a, ordering from France but shipping is only $8. and change. Bergere de France Goomy 50 which are 50 gr balls self pattern yarn so need 2. Colors are beautiful. Tulipe is spring colors and like multi rose but they have 9 colors.
I just finished The Women by Kristen Hannah and absolutely loved it!
I finished it on Sunday afternoon. It was definitely an incredible experience. But to be completely honest, I didn’t love it. I’m glad I read it and I’m glad that I am aware and informed but it’s definitely not a favorite. I know that is an unpopular opinion, but it’s an honest one!!!
Gorgeous socks! And I’m a consumer also NomNomNom!
I have added The Women to my list. Have you read “The Things We Leave Unfinished” by Rebecca Yarros? It’s set in WWII, it’s sooo good!!
I got my stitch marker & skein from you just the other day…LOVE IT!! ❤
Oh YAY!! I'm so glad to hear the yarn and stitch marker arrived safe and sound!!! Enjoy!!!!!
You truly did find a great colorway for the cover of The Women. (That was my second guess of book.) Enjoy your reading, and thank you so much for hosting this KAL. It has been so much fun already. Winding yarn and casting on today. 🎉
I love books and sock knitting should be a t-shirt.😉
It may become one!!! 😉
I love your ability to accept people at the place they are in their lives. Ravelry does have a tag (in edit options in projects). You can add tags to projects - its a great way to find common projects.
I love everything I’ve read from Hugh Howey. I found the wool omnibus riveting and disturbing. ❤
I completely agree! Riveting and disturbing!!!
❤❤thanks so much Denise 🎉🎉🎉
Lookforward to the kal and using lots of sips 🧦🧦🧦💗
Elaine🏠
Sending love and support, I enjoyed the episode! 💛I didn’t find the link to knitting in the ends. Please advise😊
I consume books!! Perfect description of how I read❤ Thank you for putting my reading into words 😊
Hey there I am going to do my best to join. I have to share I am listening to Remarkable Bright Creature as you recommended. Oh no y goodness I just love it. I don’t want to get out of the car. 😂
I know that feeling well!!
I love watching your podcast. It’s so informative and welcoming - makes perfect company to knit along to.
Aww, thank you so much!!!! That makes me so happy to hear!!
Entertaining and informative as always, Denise. Looking forward to the new patterns! And the KAL, too!
Yay, thank you so much!!
Hello Denise! I just posted my book and yarn combo on Instagram as its March 1st afternoon here.
I love Kristen Hannah!! Adding this one to the list!!!
I was just about to add a comment to ask if you’ve read anything by Kristin Hannah when you said her name! Her books are great. I’m currently reading The Great Alone.
Gorgeous helicals!!! I'm waiting for "your game" 😊
You are a bee keeper??!!! Please let us and show us more!
It's really my husband. I just help where I can.
Patons Kroy can be that way too.
Oh my gosh Denise, your socks are GLORIOUS!! I so envy your scrappy socks. I love your technique for weaving in ends, but every time I do it, I get a look on the front like every other stitch is slipped. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I sure am consistent! Anyway, I had so much fun finding a book, sock pattern and yarn for your KAL. It was HARD picking a book out of the stack I want to read! I finally settled on Lisa Scottoline's first historical novel "Eternal". I absolutely love her books and this one looks soooo good. I was as giddy as a schoolgirl when I found yarn that matched the book jacket perfectly. It just doesn't take much to get me excited I guess! I can't wait to finish the book I'm reading so that I can get going on this one.
That slip stitch look has happened to me as well! I find you have to weave the end in very very loosely and at the end don’t pull the ends too tight. Also a quick spray blocking helps eliminate that problem also
Sock knitting is the metaphor of life. A mistake that is all consuming at the moment is just a blip in the final product. Your attitude is contagious!
SO TRUE!!!!
Wow, ypur helical socks are incredible. I have two skeins in the exact colors that I've been planning to use for "micro striped" socks. I was going to swap out the contrast heel/toe/cuff as well. Now i know they'll look great. Thank you!
Hearing you mention that you enjoy historical fiction, especially WWII made Mr smile and send you a virtual 🙌 Have you read The Book of Lost Names by Kristin Harmel? It’s an excellent read. 😊
That book is on my list!!!!!
❤glad and excited to join you!!!!🎉🎉
A new book to start snd new cast on later today!!!as well as lots of sips!!!❤
And more books!!!i like a physical book!!!!but may try audio again!!!
Love the ravelry group so much !!!!
Elaine 🏠🧦🏠🧦📚📚
I’ve been wanting to try DK socks, but have been hesitant because I wasn’t sure how to adjust the shadow wrap heel and it’s the only heel I like doing. Looking forward to this!
It's coming soon!!!! I hope you like it!!!
I have decided to buy the Kindle addition of The Women since I couldn't get in from my library. I was #143 in line to read it! LOL. As I posted on Ravelry, I have joined in. Your videos are so appreciated. Denise, what is your favorite bind off for toe up socks?
As much as I love to support the library system, I do find the waiting a bit frustrating. So glad you've joined the KAL!!
❤❤❤
The girl in the blue coat is a good one for those who like WW2 fiction
Oh, thanks for the recommendation!!!
Love the KAL progress keeper. Would love one but the shipping cost makes it pricey:(
I’m so sorry. International shipping can be rather expensive.
Cast on the Barbara socks by Summer Lee for this KAL😊 Super excited to join in the fun❤
I love all of her patterns!!!
Oh my goodness, is that Paddington Bear hiding up on your shelf?
Yes, it is!!! 😁
Hi Denise, I was wondering if you could let me know where to find your link for weaving in ends. I didn’t see it in the description box (maybe I’m not looking in the right spot). I plan on doing scrappy socks with some of my leftover sock yarns and I was dreading sewing in all the ends….thanks
I will update the description box. I think I forgot to add it. But here is a link to it.
ua-cam.com/video/aJfR92jgiqY/v-deo.htmlsi=325011oX9C6lespD
Hi Denise! I have a deeper instep. I usually do heel flap and gusset for my socks. Would a shadow wrap heel work for me?
Speaking of Historical WWII fiction, have you read Code Name: Verity? I thought that one was a terrific read!
Oh I don't know that one!! I will look it up!!! Thanks so much!!!
It is really funny how words evoke different feelings for different people. I love the phrase consuming books, but calling basic socks “vanilla” gives me a weird feeling in my stomach for no reason. Off to try to by the beautiful marker.
I have 3 pair of socks going at this time and determined to finish at least one of them before beginning another!! What do you do with all the socks that you create
When is the helical socks tutorial coming? 🙏🤗
Hi Carolina,
I know you're waiting for it and as I said in the episode, I will get to it as soon as I can but you don't have to wait for me. I linked to some very good tutorials in episode 80 if you'd like to get started now.
🧶
Can I test knit your new pattern?
Oh thank you for the offer. So sorry i'm only replying now. Its been tested and is in the final tech editing stage. It's coming soon.
Love the motivation marker! Ordered it and can’t wait for it to get here and use on the next pair of socks while listening to the next book! 📕🧶❤️
Thank you SO MUCH for your order!! i hope you enjoy it!!!
@@EarthtonesgirlPodcast I love it!
Team “consumer books” here!😊📘🧶
Love your enthusiasm 👏👏
Side note 🗒️ it would be interesting to see what the ratio is of books, audio or ebooks during your #kal 😊
