- Welcome to Vlogmas 2023. I'm so excited to share the holiday season here with you. I will be uploading weekly vlogs during the month of December (more if time allows). So come and join me for a cuppa, knitting, a chat and some quiet moments during this sometimes stressful time of the year.

TOFFEE
Ingredients
2 cups of Butter
2 cups of sugar
Instructions
Add to a heavy bottom sauce pan/pot
Stir until all of the butter (oily residue) is fully combined
Bring to a boil
let simmer until dark caramel color has been reached.
Pour onto a foil lined cookie sheet
Let harden
Break up in to small pieces
ENJOY!!!

Yay to posting week 3! I loved seeing your other Christmas craft projects. I am thrilled for you that you got to experience the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater. What a wonderful experience to share with your sister! What a joy! When I was just out of college, a friend was given tickets to Alvin Ailey 10 rows from the stage, and took me with her. I got to see Judith Jamison dance Ailey's "Cry" which is still on my lifetime top 10 list of the best things I’ve experienced ever. I hope that this week ahead has a calmer pace and more time to just be and be present with your loved ones. harpingJanet PS: Your gray sweater looks really great with your wreath and your silvery tree behind you- another very soothing color story.
This was fabulous! It does not have to be perfect or on time. Life is too short to worry about things that won’t matter in the grand scheme of life. Thank you for taking the time to Vlogmas this year. Love you. This was the authentic you - wife, Mom(I remember PTA days- can’t get that back; my only is 38 now❤️), sister, crafter and knitter. Love your message about not stressing about a "perfect" Christmas. Over the years we tend to add "traditions" but never want to drop any. This causes unachievable expectations! We need to be mindful of just how much is humanly possible.😂 Please don't stress about posting on Christmas Eve. It's just a calendar fluke that the last Sunday of Advent is Christmas Eve. Most of us will be busy and won't watch until after Christmas anyway. Enjoy your family and have a very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
I love how you talked about the pressure and stress that Christmas can bring. And how everything is okay.
I got really ill 2 weeks ago, finally on the mend but now I feel like I am so behind on everything. I managed to buy the final presents online, but haven't finished gift knitting (and won't be able to) and everything was stressing me out.
And now I'm like: my mum and sis know how ill I've been, they will understand. Health is the most important after all.
So thank you for pointing that out, it really helped ❤
Appreciate you sharing your Vlogmas! My husband and I are retiring at the end of the year so I have lots of adulting stuff on top of holiday stuff and taking time to knit and watch Vlogmases is keeping me sane😊

Thanks for sharing info about your family’s activities. I wasn’t fortunate to have a sister, but have two younger brothers. Having brothers does make a difference. I have a few close sister friends and remain in communication with each other. Also thanks for showing your Advent socks in progress. I caked the yarn and that’s as far as I got because of other knitting projects. Happy holidays!❤🎄

I too am that super involved at school mom. I was so grateful to have a day off work yesterday for the fourth grade holiday party, and it felt so good to be there and be present and get hugs from my daughter’s friends. Made up for the exhaustion that came after 😂

Totally with you on celebrating the whole season (I feel that way about birthday months too lol). LOVE those goodie bags - SUPER cute! The fade on those socks!!! I have some soft wintry Cozy Knitter self-striping yarn (not advent yarn) that I might cake up for a New Year's (maybe Eve??) cast on - we shall see! not giving myself any pressure to do so but if I do get to it, all the more fun for me! We must have a similar vibe going - I dried oranges a week ago 😊. I like to use those end pieces in a simmer pot with a couple of cinnamon sticks & some cloves. Makes the house smell so cozy!

How did you know i was wondering about you this morning? So blessed to hear you feel this is important to you.
All 3 members in our family are born in December so i always aim to get the gifts done by October. I really dislike store shopping in December because of all the advertising etc. I stopped making gifts with the December deadlines because it's just too stressful. Now I make gifts throughout the year and it is so much more enjoyable.
Edit. The gift bags are adorable. The toffee reminds me of Macintosh brand toffee. Best part was taking a new package outside in the cold and tapping it against something firm to break it into pieces. Good for getting out baby teeth!
My first time doing an advent project and it is the 24 stripe socks from the cozy knitter! Also my first time doing the afterthought heel.
I’m back to say those bags are amazing! You are amazing! Our elementary school is very diverse and many kids celebrate Hanukkah, Diwali, or are Muslim or other non Christian backgrounds, so we cannot do stuff like this, but oh it looks so fun and amazing!

As soon as presents are packed and sent (all kids and grand are elsewhere) I fall into a depression. So my making goes by the wayside. So I understand this.
I am so happy that you and your sister were able to see Alvin Ailey, I was able to see them in 2019 with my family. I have trained my family to not expect gifts at Christmas time, usually it's Christmas in July 😊.

What a fun episode! Very nicely done. I’ve avoided making toffee because 1. I thought it required a candy thermometer, and I just couldn’t, and 2. Instructions I’ve looked at included the phrase, “working quickly.” Nope! 😂 Your instructions were so well explained, I’m feeling confident! Merry Christmas!
Although I enjoy giving gifts to people, I’m not a fan of shopping either. It was nice when you spoke about your sister and your outing. I actually felt emotional (in a good way). Thanks for sharing with us and enjoy your holidays!

I hate to shop. At the holidays, a certain amount of prep work is needed. But ughh. Also, my sons birthday is also the 18th.
It is lovely that you and your family value hand made. The goodie bags are beautiful. I will have to have a go at making the toffee. Do you use salted or unsalted butter and what are the differences to look out for. Happy and peaceful Christmas to you and all your family. 🇬🇧

I use salted butter. And by differences I mean, some butter brands taste better/different than others. Some can be oiler than others...Experiment and see what you like.

You can knit when you are 60!! You cannot be on the PTA of your kids' school when you are 60. CHERISH these wonderful moments with your children. You will blink your eyes and suddenly find you are a minor (while loved) part of their life. While I agree with "me time" and the absolute need to have a life beyond being a wife and mother, NEVER sacrifice opportunities to be part of your family's life.
