Sw yx probably just to express his thoughts easier and faster. It seems like he understands English really well but just doesn’t speak it great or feel very comfortable speaking it which the interpreter helps with.
Agreed. She's great interpreter except for one thing, haha. When Dir. Bong mentioned Asian famous Master Directors as Akira Kurosawa or Mizoguchi Kenzi, She missed Mizoguchi and only delivered the name, Kurosawa. Yes, maybe Dir. Kurosawa is more remembered nowadays, but Kenzi is also a memorable name in my opinion. Nonetheless, She is so super brilliant.
Completely agree. Not only do you have to speak both languages fluently you have to completely understand the content as well as convey the same tone of voice. I think she did both perfectly. I wonder if she translates as a full time job or just took this job on as a side project.
I’m bilingual in English and Korean, and Bong’s translater is by far the best I’ve seen to date. Absolutely amazing.

@@andan109 Majority of them are English spoken movies, this year we had Roma, which was a Mexican film. Then I believe the one before that, Amour (French movie) was nominated for Best Picture. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Bong's translator is the gold standard for translators. she's so good.
She's one of the Top Level interpreter. Probably she's done lot of high stressed level of interpretation (CEO meetings, Press Conference).
She is actually a director and not a full time translator, she says it in another interview.

이홍규 you can tell she’s just straight up brilliant. a second after he finishes speaking she’s on top of it....and uses high level english vocab. to switch between these languages with completely different sentence structures so quickly is really impressive
@@ShaneFagan I don't blame him, as someone who studied interpretation and deaf studies for 3 years I know that having a bad interpreter is much worse than not having one at all.

I really hope Bong's translator sees all these comments. Interpreters are always in the background and often don't see any praise for their efforts. When they're good, people pass by without encouragement or a word of thanks. If bad, they receive a lot of hate and only criticized. I hope she gets to bask in little glory of a job well done! From one interpreter to another!
i remember watching Park So Dam in "cinderella and the four knights" and now she plays a major role in one of the most talked about movies this year. i feel so proud right now

I love that Joon Ho really makes an effort to speak English, but when he wants to make a point or doesn't know the right word he just switches to Korean.
This film should get at least 10 nominations, including actors categories. And this film should be the first one to win Best International Film, and Best Picture.

I have yet to see Parasite (hasn’t come to my area yet :’) but my husband just showed me Snowpiercer last night, and now I could not be more excited to see Bong’s new film! He is a master of cinema and storytelling!
I don' t think he has made a bad film. Snowpiercer was not great but good enough. You should also see Memories of Murder, The Host and Mother, in order if possible. Enjoy Korean cinema.
Excellent copy of Memories of Murder here on youtube, with proper subtitles. You may like it more than Parasite.

This should definitely win Best Director, Production Design, Original Story, and Picture! The best movie this decade I must say.
The movie deserves at least these six nominations:
Best Picture
Best Director
Best Original Screenplay
Best International Feature Film
Best Film Editing
Best Cinematography
and Best Trailer
I would add best production design, that house and the whole poor neighborhood was built beautifully.
Agree with all of these, though I think The Lighthouse should win best cinematography. Never the less Parasite is a masterpiece.
Also the acting was insanely good, mostly the rich wife (i forgot her name)
I think song kang ho should get a best leading actor nomination too.

To provide some context on why Bong was so shocked to see the sauna in a private home in S. Korea.
Bong just turned 50. He was in early 20s, in college and tutoring when he was shown the private sauna. So that private sauna in a home story is from 1989 or 1990.
S Korea's GDP per capita in 1989 was $5,737. In 2019, it's $31,000. It went up 5.4 times.
Imagine the life difference of someone who makes $50,000 a year versus someone who makes $270,000 a year (5.4 times greater). Both living in Los Angeles, CA in 2019. $50,000 person will never buy the cars/houses or take trips of the $270,000 person.
In 2019, poorest can and do see pictures/videos of the private life of rich. Just browse through pictures of expensive houses in Zillow. But 1989 was way before the time of internet/instagram/facebook. Poor would never see the inside of a rich family's house in real life in 1989.
So yes, seeing a private sauna in a private home in 1989 in South Korea was a big shock for Bong. Totally expected that he was so shocked to see the unexpected sauna.

Maybe because cultures cannot be created or imitated. It needs to be felt in it's true sense and this can only e done by the actors who belong from that culture.

@@joejellyfish I blame South korea for not submitting it for foriegn film, it was a shoe in an would have won. But also for best-adapted screenplay (this was a tough year because you had moonlight, arrival and this), best production design, best costume design, best cinematography, best score (hands down easy win), best editing (easy should have won over Hacksaw ridge) and best directing.
Such a beautifully shot movie and the plot twists were amazing!

I think the strength of this film is to see Kim's family from their perspective, making us empathise with such people who are "labelled" in the society. We eventually learn that they too, are humans, but due to societal pressures, the way they respond to others are too unique - thus making the film unique!
SO HAPPY THIS FILM KS GETTING THE RECOGNITION IT DESERVES

Bong Joon Ho is such an under-appreciated director, the guy directed Memories of Murder, perhaps one of the best movies in the history of cinema and it took this long to be recognized by the international audience. Well deserved tho, wish people that loved parasite watch his other masterpieces as well, especially Memories of Murder. You owe it to yourself as a movie lover to watch that movie.

Honestly, the center plot of the film is quite simple. BUT, the details of the movies! Everything seems so deliberate and well thought off.
