She translated that he is very heathy :) actually Dir Bong kept grumbling he found many parts of his body creak then he regretted what he said and asked her to translate that he is just healthy.

Yes! It's so very true! Mr.Bong does everything. Theme, story making, conti, directing and so on. He is like a total package in terms of movie itself.

The translator is a first rate professional. She didn't miss any of director Bong's nuances. I know how difficult it is to translate between the structurally different languages like Korean and English. She is amazing.
There are many great interpreters in Korea. She is good but not the best yet. Some political interpreters are translating simultaneously well and even more perfect.

This man directed one of my all time favorite films Memories of Murder. That film is a masterpiece to me and I’m excited to see his next film. His English is good 👍
He has to keep it up with his english speaking because not a lot of these directors from east is able to speak english because they can't find a simple and effective way to communicate or even learn english.
The only people that I know from movies and interviews who can speak english are Hiroyuki Sanada, Tadanobu Asano, Ken Watanabe - actors from Japan Don Lee, Steven Yeun, Byung hun Lee- actors from Korea
Joe Taslin , Iko Uwais- actor from Thailand
Ryuhei Kitamura, Timo Tjahjanto, John Woo and Ang Lee are some of the directors that comes to my mind.
So you know :one step forward and two steps back.
But I belive there is still time , we can change this the only thing we need is a solution.

Parasite is my favourite film of 2019 and probably one of the best films I've ever watched in my life. What I would do to erase it from my memory and experience it for the first time again.

I have watched on UA-cam, I think, EVERY interview Dir. Bong did in promoting "Parasite." I watched some of them multiple times. Some were marred by incompetent questioners, inelegant questions, or lack of time or depth. This piece suffered from NONE of these. David Poland was well prepared, insightful, and seemed truly knowledgeable and interested in getting "into the mind" of this unbelievable genius film maker. IMO, this was by far the best Bong Joon Ho interview. My hat is off to Mr. Poland. Thank you.
To my side note...as a Korean, besides Bong's wonderful and honest interview on the movie and something related, I was really surprised by his perfect translator, she never missed even the tiny line that Bong mentioned in Korean all the way.

He prefers small lol. He doesn't want to be swayed by BIG budget studios. He is truly aware of the danger/risk taking money from big capitalism. He is a true artist. He values his creative freedom more than commercial success backed by big budget.
@@sooncheolyoon759 Uhhhh, no. Snowpiercer wasn't much of a low budget movie, and it's still a fantastic movie. His style works best in low budget, but when he needs he doesn't shy away from having more money to work with. "the danger/risk taking money from big capitalism" is nothing more than bindings you have to fulfill when you are taking money from so many people to make your film.
He is one of the most original directors in this era. Very peculiar and very distictive..
Bong Joon Ho is a genius and one of the best filmmakers
at 16:00 he explains the reason, at least to me, why we relate to this film. Its that deep down I think your rooting for everyone to win. That is how I felt watching this film and the ending is what makes it so powerful.
I've always really liked his films and then I saw Parasite and this cemented his status as a genius.
6:10 Lmao Dir. Bong was talking about how his body was deteriorating and then he changed his mind and just told Sharon to say he's healthy. Being bilingual, this is especially entertaining to watch.
Can you point out the exact timestamp where this happened, i do not speak Korean but i would like to test whether there was a sudden change in tone the moment he changed his mind about revealing his degrading heath. I know this maybe a bit too much to ask for, anyway i have been his fan since memories of murder. Thanks in advance.

@@paper95k 봉감독이 그런말을 하잖아요. 처음부터 정치적인 이슈를 이야기하지 않았다. 그러나 사람을 이해하려고 노력하고 깊이 들어가니 결국 정치적인 내용이 포함되었다.
이렇듯이, black list 에 포함되면 영화제작에 있어 투자자가 없어지잖아요. 투자자에 엄청난 세무조사가 있을테니 웬만한 투자자는 투자에 부담스러워지고 그러면 영화자체가 만들어지지 않게되죠.
결국 칸영화제 수상도 어려워지고 오스카에 노미도 안되고, 그렇게되면 우리의 국뽕(??)도 없이 재미없는 하루가 되니 정치적인 연결이 아주 자연스럽죠.
봉감독은 일단 창의적인 부분이 많이 있어서 특히 헐리우드가 더 탐내는것같음 미국은 독특성 창의성을 가진 재능을 가진 자들을 매우 좋아하는것같음 내가 맞게 파악하는지는 모르겠지만 봉감독은 자신안에 아이디어가 샘솟고 있는 부분들을 어떻게든 자신의 글로 표현하고 싶어하고 하고 싶은 이야기들을 계속 갖고 있기에 헐리우드가 더욱 더 많이 일을 하고싶어할것같음

this is korean news article. you should use google translate. this article says that "another crime"-detective mis-catched the criminal on purpose. The real criminal is the one @nini baba mentioned.
Great interview, but the camera (operator) should have pulled back for wide angle occasionally to show the translator.

우리 GV 가보면 평론가인 사회자가 감독보다 말이 더 많고, 관객은 질문시간에 책에서 본 이론 설파하고 카메라 구도 얘기하고, 감독은 관객 가르치고 악순환인데 이 인터뷰는 봉감독 머리속을 보여주는 것 같음.

최성재씨 한국어톤을 처음 듣는데, 영어로 할때와 느낌이 새삼 다르네요. 전혀 다른 사람같이 신기하네요.
솔직히 칸느나 미국 캐나다 일본같은 곳에서 활약중인 통역사나 심지어 동시통역사들의 역량에는 경이롭다는 감탄사가 나옴과 동시에 대한민국의 국내통역사들 분발해야겠다는 생각이 든다.진짜 정확하게 잔달하니까 그야말로 자연스런 대화가 가능하게 되는건 정말정말 경이로운 스킬이다.

TOSHIO DS he actually hasn’t done a Hollywood film yet. Snowpiercer technically was an independent movie and a Korean co-production with several European countries. It would be great from him to do a Hollywood film but I wouldn’t want it to be a superhero movie tbh. Blockbusters don’t just have to be based on comic books!

Yes, I agree that most English speaking people thinks her a translator, as most English speaking people don't speak another language or even never had the need to speak another language, so, they know little about translation vs interpretation.
This is a matter of defining a liguist profession. Refer to IS Dept of Labor's classification you will see the official definition of the differences.
Interpreting or Verbal translating is far more challenging than written translation, b/c you must convert the meaning instantly while written translating can be done at your own pace. Interpreting has way much longer history before Columbus discovery or industrial revolution, before the real world trade started.
Translating came much later. How British communicate with American Indians? They try by speaking first, in order to understand each other, writing comes much later.

Let the audience decide what the film is, not by narration nor forceful subtext. Have actors to show the emotions, cinematographers to paint the screens and editors to tell the story, and directors to have the FINAL CUT, not the producers.
