I've always loved how this work closes with the opening chords of Keqrops, such a wonderful bit of interrelation between the works.

Aaaah, yes, that chord is so distinctive. Also, the drums which are such a key protagonist here are reduced to the tiniest of outbursts in Keqrops.

Lichens seems to be the source for a few musical ideas, 1:28 is the start of Alax, and the winds back and forth semiquavers at 2:17 are also used in Alax too.

The themes from Keqrops also appearn in Mists and his Homage à Ravel!

This is one of Xenakis orchestral works that are up there with Beethoven's 5th, Stravinsky's Rite Of Spring and Varese's Ameriques for me. One of the greatest classical works of all time.

It's annoying with orchestral string players in Xenakis. Whenever there are clearly unison rhythms, they should stand out. They're not even hyper-complex much of the time, like, syncopated 32nd, 16th and 8th notes.. but this performance the strings sound like crap on those.

Especially around 2:50, the first violins sound so unclear and fuzzy compared to the second violins.

Tortuous to listen to, and there are ample reasons why xenakis’s music was played by minor, off-beat orchestras. Also, he didn’t hear this, the math, the computer programs and the graphs took over.

This is how the universe sounds. If you don't like it, the universe won't care about it. It's hard to bear this message but it's worth listening to from a philosophical perspective if you care about reality.

He has to control the math to his liking, no different than the circle of fifths - it's just a tool and does nothing by itself.

@@Qazwdx111 Today's physics has undergone a statistical turnaround. Even particle physics no longer investigates particles, but scattering. That is exactly what Xenakis made sound: Music as a statistical accumulation of sound masses.
