thank you so much my friend just a quick question i wanted to make a stainless steel look how would i adjust the specular to give it more of a steel look than chrome?
thanks dean im not one for commenting but felt i had to. Thank you for creating this tutorial. ive been creating skins for a few months now. and have gone way above where i ever imagined. in regards to being able to create designs. Well now. ive been able to pritty much do anything and evolved in ability. ( admittedly ive watched this a lot ) my latest livery looks amazing. once again thank you. this has been invaluble for me.
Thanks for this tutorial! I made it about half way through the video and was able to create a custom skin then test it on track. Now to finish the remaining Specular & Fresnel sections 👍
Thanks. Wanted to know how to get the livery in the game. Now I know. Need to learn some more of those layers and what is possible with it in photoshop. Got real basic skills. When I load it the dds is visible as thumbnail. Screenshot your answer in the comments of the other video you made. So I can make a thumbnail for it.
This is a very well done tutorial, I was wondering if there is an alternative to Photoshop though? I have a Adobe Creative Suite 3 but it is now outdated and won't work on Windows 10 any more. I bought Photoshop 2023 today which I will be returning because it won't work due to my CPU not being supported, very frustrating. So can I use something else ?
Hey Adam, only some cars support the 'Windscreen' texture override, it's been there for quite a while :) . It controls the windscreen sun visor / banner you see at the top of the windscreen from inside the car only (cockpit view). For cars that support the banner, there's usually a banner template available for you to customise that comes with the car template from Reiza. Like I mentioned that Windscreen banner specified in the XML is only visible from inside, it has no effect on what the car looks like from outside. For that outside windscreen banner you have to paint on the car template itself. One other important thing to note, i our league we noticed that if a car does support the Windscreen texture in the XML file and you don't specify one, you get a strange fogging / dirt build up on the windscreen after about 5 laps. This can be really hard to see through depending on lighting conditions on track. So if the car supports a banner, it's best to always specify and use one, to avoid the fogging issue. Hope that helps :)
@@DeanLawrence74 It does, but I do have a follow up question. I was looking at the Chevrolet Omega, and I can't find a way to actually paint the body, can you advise?
@@BOTRacing I haven't tried painting the Omega, but it looks like the template (Omega_Stock_Car_template.psd) comes with a bunch of decal layers already in it that you can turn off or delete, and a black base paint layer. Without trying it myself I'd just suggest deleting everything except the wireframe layer and then create your painting layers below that wireframe layer.
@@DeanLawrence74 Thanks Dean, sorry for the delay. I have been painting cars like crazy. Yes, deleting them did work, but so does just turning them all off and placing a new layer at bottom to use as a paint layer. Thanks again for this video, it is so satisfying seeing the finished product
trying to save the .dds spec with GIMP but i keep getting an error if i have added the alpha channel, i also notice there is already an alpha channel before i add one but i cant seem to change the color of it :(
Hey Lucas, I'm not too familiar with how GIMP works with alpha sorry. I did a little tutorial over here using paint.net . Maybe GIMP works in a similar way? ua-cam.com/video/LBiFycuXw1s/v-deo.html
All good got it sorted, had to add the alpha channel after i converted to .dds, GIMP wont convert the file with the alpha channel beforehand, cant wait to finish my first car, thanks again for the guide

Hi, do you know where the file is for driver helmets?
Hey Dean, it seems they have added another line to the XML file called Windscreen, I changed it just like the rest. Does the sound right to you?
