I have an 88 Escort but my set up is identical to yours. I couldn't take the bottom half of my dash off so it was an absolute nightmare for space. It took an age to get the metal clips out. Same as you, my replacement part wasn't right so tomorrow I will be getting the replacement. It makes me sad that you say the putting back is the hardest part because that means I have that to come. Anyway, thanks so much for the video. Helped me an absolute tonne.
Hey Matthew, yeah sorry to be a bummer but hopefully some of my failings putting it back together might make it easier for you. Also make sure those washers go back in the same, i must have something different and it feels a bit loose under foot sometimes.
This is a pain of a job! Thats why as a YTS guy they got me to do this. I had to do it in situ. Superb as always thanks for reviving memories nearly 35 years old
Great video, job well done. I seriously need to replace the bushes on my clutch pedal but the thought of having to crawl around under the dash means I keep putting it off.
Yeah it’s horrible under there. Last year I did the Capris brake pedal bushes and that wasn’t fun. I’m going to do the Escorts suspension next and I’m looking at welders … don’t suppose you have any experience with welding do you?
Best video yet of this job mate. In regards to the spring that hooks to the quadrant and through a hole in the clutch pedal. Did you connect this after putting the pedals together?
Hey mate thanks for the comment ! I thought I’d was a job that needed filming properly . Yeah I used a bit of guitar string around the hook of the spring( while the quadrant was all attached to the spindle bar) and pulled it though the clutch pedal hole/pushed it through the back with some pliers .
I’m currently messing with this on my cortina. The cable stretched so replaced it then found the hook the spring goes on was snapped and there was no spring. Had to get universal clutch springs as you can’t get them. The pawl jams completely
Hi Arnold, My mk3 has a brake servo with a reservoir on the top which is the same as all mk3s with a servo. The clutch doesn’t use fluid it’s a cable from pedal to lever on the gearbox. A setup with clutch fluid would have a hose from the gearbox to a slave cylinder by the clutch pedal.

@Retro & Rusty will do buddy. Fingers crossed you figure out what it is.

@@RetroAndRusty I'm afraid not, it's something I would love to learn though.

Hey there, I loved the video. I have a question about the Ford Escort mk3, does the clutch share the same brake fluid reservoir as the brakes???
Hi Arnold, My mk3 has a brake servo with a reservoir on the top which is the same as all mk3s with a servo. The clutch doesn’t use fluid it’s a cable from pedal to lever on the gearbox. A setup with clutch fluid would have a hose from the gearbox to a slave cylinder by the clutch pedal.
There’s no fluid on the clutch system as it uses the cable to pull the clutch. It’s mechanical rather than hydraulic like modern cars
Great vid thanks for sharing. 🐵
My fiend; I need overall cable length and outher cable sleeve length tell me please I'm going to make a special wire, I can't find the original here
Hi, I dont know the length of the cable, i've never had it out. There are a few clutch cables for mk3/4 on ebay.co.uk maybe you could get one shipped?
Can you reuse the old ratchet and pawl?
You probably could reuse the old
Pawl if it’s not damaged. It’s not a job I want to do again any time soon so might not be worth it.
@@RetroAndRusty after seeing your video it’s something I’d like to try and avoid if possible 😝
