  • Angie Dickinson's film and TV career has been a half-century-long master class in the art of seduction. Mo Rocca talked with the star of the '70s hit "Police Woman," and such classic films as "Rio Bravo" and "Dressed to Kill," about becoming an inspiration for aspiring policewomen, her relationships with such stars as Frank Sinatra and Burt Bacharach, and the #MeToo movement. Originally broadcast on February 24, 2019.

    When asked by Johnny Carson if she dressed for women or for men her response was " I dress for women, I undress for men." Johnny's jaw dropped to the floor. I'll never forget seeing her on the show that night. One of the best lines I ever heard delivered. She was beautiful and a great actor.

      If getting hired depends on whether or not a woman falls to her knees and opens her mouth when her potential employer opens his robe then certainly a despicable and illegal act has occurred. To characterize such behavior as "men misbehaving" does a grave disservice to the brave women who have come forward at risk of destroying their careers by many labeled "difficult" by men in power. The interviewer should have asked follow-up questions because Ms Dickenson has also been quoted as saying that she felt exploited by the inclusion of so many unnecessary shower scenes in Police Woman.

Now men are getting into women's team sports and all of sudden women are screaming that they don't want men competing with them. Any other time women say they can do anything men can do and there is no difference between men and women. You can't have it both ways bit*ches. Also, I'm a woman and happy to be one.

      Most women did not live the fascinating lives that film stars like Ms Dickensen did. They were either homemakers who rarely had anyone other than the kids to talk to or, if single,
      working at low-paying pink ghetto jobs or cleaning houses if poor and uneducated. The good paying jobs were "only men need apply" which is why even brilliant women who managed to get into law school and graduated at the top of their class could only find jobs as legal secretaries. The "open robe" comment is a reference to Harvey Weinstein who is in prison because both the men and women on the jury (who "weren't there" either ) put him there. I don't fault Ms Dickensen for her "an open robe isn't rape" comment even though it disparages the brave actresses who came forward about Harvey W at the risk of being labeled "difficult" which is poison in the film industry, I fault the interviewer who either didn't ask follow-up questions or the editor who edited them out if they were asked

      Yep, she proved with that statement that she wasn't just another Hollyweird shill, but can think for herself. She observed that the MeToo movement did/does more harm than good for the world just like most initiatives sponsored by the mainstream media and Hollywood elites. Incidentally Rose McGowan who founded the movement to her credit also disowned it when she saw it being corrupted and weaponized. I bet Angie doesn't realize it or maybe she does by her statement when working with John Wayne that she shared more in common with his politics than she did with her parents. I bet she was the best mother her daughter Nikki could've had for her condition, but too bad it ended sadly.

      I really like her but truly disagree with her about the me too movement. Millions of women are abused and raped, and what women wear, say a mini skirt, is often used by men (and some women) to justify this cruel and debasing act. It is about power and thank God and country and the men and women who fight against the debasement of women in jobs and at home. Look at what is happening in Afghanistan, where women are bereft of education and have to hide all of their bodies and faces because men cannot control themselves so blame women. Thank God we are better than that, but have a long way to go.

    • @fredrika27
      @fredrika27 4 роки тому +5

      @@lindashelley3635 That's my point! If Angie got preferential treatment, then she should admit it. With some of the most notorious abusers in jail or dead, these women should speak up so others who are walking in their footsteps understand who to be careful around and how to conduct themselves. Yes, it isn't her role to be everyone's mentor, but she is an accomplice to the establishment's silence and decades' long abuse. As far as I can see, by being silent, one is allowing the abuse to continue. I lose respect for such people. It's her right as an individual to do what is in her best interest. That said, she shouldn't be upset when people call her on it and say that she is a hypocrite and not a champion of women! The same with Lindsay Wagner. A person is at the top of the food chain and has many good works, but denies the ills which are happening around her! I understand everyone is not a fighter or wants to be in the public eye. However, such inaction continues the cycle of abuse. People in the entertainment industry deserve better!

    • @lindashelley3635

      fredrika27 I understand what you’re saying, but maybe Angie is at an age now where she just wants to live out her days in peace and quiet and not to become embroiled in any modern controversy. After all, whatever may have happened (or not happened) to her personally would have been more than half a century ago, and she may feel that ‘what’s done is done’, that nothing can change it now and so there’s no point in going over ancient history. As an older woman myself, I understand that attitude, though whilst never having been even an aspiring famous actress but just an ordinary ‘mere mortal’ I obviously never had any of those particular ‘casting couch’ experiences. But still, I’m sure many of us now in our 70s and 80s have had embarrassing, or possibly even mortifying, moments in our lives that we would rather forget, and certainly not wish to rehash on the public stage. Angie seems to be a very private lady, and I feel she should be afforded the right to live out her life in quiet and peaceful dignity.
